Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#160 - Playing the opposite of Roger
From a technical implementation standpoint, the Three-Dimensional Method is incredibly complex.
However, its principles are exceptionally simple.
Anyone who can think normally can understand it.
A person's 'self' is the self-dimension. Everything they can interfere with, including their body, the sounds they make, language, the marks they leave behind, and even their thoughts, breathing, currency, and other people, are all medium dimensions.
Everything they cannot interfere with is the external dimension.
Turning the un-interferable external dimension into an interferable medium dimension, transforming phenomena and substances that one has weak interference ability over into existences that can be completely interfered with, like waving one's arm.
This is the essence of the Three-Dimensional Method.
Normally, this method would only help one think about the world from a different perspective.
But magic, this miraculous power that directly acts upon 'concepts,' makes the Three-Dimensional Method extremely profound.
And the Three-Dimensional Method's extremely inclusive theoretical foundation allows any being with higher intelligence to practice it.
However, the above is under the condition that the Three-Dimensional Method grows wildly.
"The Three-Dimensional Method you're talking about should be far more than just what you've told me, right?" Luna is a very perceptive person, and she quickly noticed some 'discordance' in Roger's words.
"That's right. What I just told you is the second version of the Three-Dimensional Method, which I have revised," Roger said frankly, without any concealment.
"The first version of the Three-Dimensional Method, which I developed together with Headmaster Dumbledore, is more adaptable. It can be said that there is almost no threshold for cultivation. Anyone can practice it."
"But that version has a problem. Its inclination conflicts with my plans for the future."
Roger has never been a philanthropist.
He helped those people in the Middle East because those people helped him first.
Dumbledore, Harry, Hagrid, and others are the same. Affection, transactions—that's why their status in Roger's eyes is unique.
Roger pioneered this new path not for a world where everyone is like a dragon, living in universal harmony, but essentially as a tool to harvest the wisdom of all beings.
"What I want is a sufficiently rational cultivation system capable of accumulating technology, not a scattered, unformed architecture where everyone just throws in random ideas."
The Three-Dimensional Method is extremely inclusive. It can be said that any system Roger knows of—cultivation, Haki,
Chakra, Magnetic Field Rotation, technology, arcane arts, Spiral Power, Dou Qi, and even Murderous Tennis—can all be incorporated!
This seems good, with a high degree of future development potential, but in the early stages, it is definitely not a good thing!
Roger had already noticed this in Dumbledore. Both of them were practicing the Three-Dimensional Method, but Dumbledore's path was completely different from his own.
Dumbledore gave Roger a lot of help in magical theory, but Dumbledore's path did not have much significant reference value for Roger.
If only Dumbledore was like this, it would be fine, but if billions of people in the world each had their own ideas, it would definitely be a huge loss for Roger!
What Roger needs at this stage is 'depth.' He is far from the stage where he needs to expand 'breadth.'
So Roger took action.
His achievement is the second version of the Three-Dimensional Method that he just told Luna about.
Roger reduced some content. People who learn the second version of the Three-Dimensional Method can only move in the direction of dragging magic from idealism to materialism.
They can no longer follow Dumbledore's example and gallop down the path of idealistic magic.
"Hmm—I think I understand what you mean."
After Roger explained the detailed differences, Luna nodded, seeming to understand.
"But, after you change it like this, is this still magic?"
Luna blinked her ethereal eyes, staring at Roger and saying, "I feel like if your method is really implemented, what will be born in the end will not be magic, but another kind of Muggle technology."
She was not born into a Muggle family, but her family is in the news business, so Luna, unlike many wizards, does not live in the wizarding world her whole life and know nothing about the Muggle society so close at hand.
Although Luna only has a half-baked understanding of many Muggle things, she knows a little about what Muggle technology, the core of the entire modern Muggle society, is.
In her impression, Muggle technology can be summarized in one sentence.
People discover a lever and a fulcrum, and they can use one unit of force to produce ten units of effect. They study the principles behind it and then apply them to more things.
Discover phenomena, study principles, and apply them widely, repeating the cycle, that's all.
And magic is another path.
Let magic feel one's will, and then let magic modify the world.
Record what kind of will causes what kind of changes in magic, repeating the cycle.
Facing Luna's doubts, Roger revealed a smile: "Your feeling is right."
"What I am pursuing, its ultimate result, is to obtain 'truth'."
"Instead of squandering vast power without even knowing where one's power comes from."
Roger spoke of the biggest flaw in the magic of today's wizards.
"For almost all wizards, there is really no need to dwell on this issue."
"Magic power is good as long as it works. Why bother to investigate where it comes from?"
"It's like Muggles' three meals a day. As long as you can buy them with money, and they are delicious and won't kill you, that's fine."
"No one has to study what those additives in food are in essence, and few people have to go to the origin of every vegetable and every catty of rice to see how the farmers grow them."
Roger shifted his gaze away from Luna and looked at the moon high in the sky, reflecting a clear, cold glow. "But, for anyone who seeks eternal life, this is a major issue that cannot be ignored."
"If there is 'unknown,' then how can it be considered eternal life?"
What Roger is pursuing has never been eternal lifespan.
What he wants is absolute immortality, an absolute immortality that cannot be killed by any being or thing in any world.
How could he pursue something that is powerful for the moment, but doesn't know why!
After Roger finished speaking, Luna nodded, this time she really completely understood Roger's will.
So—
"But, I don't want to pursue eternal life," Luna also shifted her gaze away from Roger and looked up at the bright moon in the sky with Roger.
"I just want to do some interesting things, meet some interesting people, and live an interesting life."
"Reunite with family and laugh with friends and relatives."
Saying that, Luna raised her hand, her index finger pointing to the bright moon in the sky: "Roger, your path is like that moon."
"It's very beautiful, allowing people to entrust all kinds of dreams and thoughts. But it's also very high, even very cold, making it untouchable. Just thinking about it makes it feel out of reach."
"The most important thing is that when you really set foot on it, you will find that there are no moon rabbits, no aliens, only empty and terrifying cosmic space and pale earth."
"Ordinary people in that kind of environment, let alone live, I'm afraid they will die instantly. Only those who master extraordinary power can gain a foothold there."
The name Luna, in Italian, means the moon.
From a very young age, she was full of curiosity and fantasy about the moon.
That's why she kept pestering him with questions after hearing Roger say that he had been to the moon in Diagon Alley.
And Roger, seeing that she was so interested in this, also taught her the ritual of Imaginary Creation · Dream Shadow.
Luna also used the Dream Shadow body to go to the moon, but what she got was endless disappointment.
Just like the words she just blurted out, on the pale moon earth, Luna stared at the deep, dark, and mysterious cosmic space on the back of the moon, and felt—fear!
The starry sky seemed to have torn off its dreamy veil, showing its true side to her.
This made young Luna a little unbearable.
It's like telling a child that there is no Santa Claus in this world, and no Ultraman or Monkey King.
Luna's heart was greatly impacted.
"So, are you planning to refuse?"
Roger heard a hint of melancholy in Luna's tone.
"...No," Luna shook her head.
"I just prefer more romantic things, but I won't refuse to acknowledge the truth because of it."
"Singing a different tune is to let people see another possibility hidden under the complex voices, not 'to oppose for the sake of opposing'."
Parents are a child's first teacher, and Luna's parents had a great influence on her growth experience and spiritual development.
Luna's father is the editor of the magazine 'The Quibbler'. Under the influence of what she saw and heard, her personality is like that magazine, whimsical while also trying to pursue some kind of 'truth'.
"I want to learn the Three-Dimensional Method."
"But I don't want to completely follow the path you have planned."
Luna withdrew her gaze from the moon and looked back at Roger, asking calmly.
With her wisdom, she can of course feel how magnificent things can bloom after the Three-Dimensional Method is superimposed with magic.
But she felt that Roger's path was not magical enough, not 'beautiful' enough. She wanted to take her own path based on the Three-Dimensional Method.
Her mother is still waiting for her at the 'end', Luna has no intention of pursuing a long life.
The end of the materialist path is higher, but that has nothing to do with Luna.
Just as Roger had said, his questions held no significance for short-lived species. They were the kind of considerations only someone like Roger, who possessed immortality, would need to contemplate.
It was like a terminal illness with a 10-billion-year lifespan; to a Muggle, it was practically nonexistent.
"Roger, if this is my answer, are you still willing to teach me?"
