Harry Potter's Bastard
Chapter 475
Thestrals are to wizards what crows are to Muggles, a creature that is considered ominous and deadly.
Of course, this can't be wrong. This is because Thestrals are extremely sensitive to the smell of blood, and in the wild, the smell of blood usually means death. Thestrals are omnivorous creatures that can eat some plants, but meat is their favorite, whether it's fresh or carrion.
The "surprises" prepared by Hagrid are still dangerous, and the danger is not that these Thestrals will attack the students, but that the Thestrals may carry certain diseases. Wild Thestrals are poisonous due to their perennial consumption of carrion, saliva and the breath they exhale, which can easily cause human poisoning.
This is how many Muggle diseases come about, and since Muggles can't see Thestrals, these scavengers will sometimes eat leftovers in the city or go through trash cans, which in turn will spread some diseases to Muggles. Hagrid's Thestrals don't have these problems, though—if they're fully domesticated, as he claims, then they shouldn't carry those nasty diseases.
"What's that?" Parvati asked fearfully as she retreated to the nearest tree, "what's eating it?"
"Thestrals," Hagrid said proudly, "there's a big bunch of them here at Hogwarts. Now, who knows-"
"But they are very, very unlucky!" Parvati interjected, looking horrified, "and they will bring all sorts of terrible calamities to those who see them, as Professor Trelawney once told me—"
Hearing Trelawney's name, Hermione glanced at Parvati, who was trembling, and in Hermione's opinion, everyone who believed in Trelawney's tricks was stupid.
"No, no," Hagrid laughed, "it's just superstition, nothing unlucky, they're smart and useful." Of course, this group didn't have much to do, mainly pulling the school's carriage, unless Dumbledore was going out but didn't want to apparition - another pair, voila-"
Two more horses crept into view, one of them brushing past Parvati. She trembled, hugged the trunk tightly and said, "I feel something, it seems to be next to me!"
"Don't be afraid, it won't hurt you. Hagrid said patiently, "Now, who can tell me why some people can see and others can't?"
Hermione held her hand.
"Hermione. Hagrid smiled at her.
"Only those who have seen death can see Thestrals. She said.
"By the way," Hagrid said solemnly, "Gryffindor plus ten." Thestrals—"
"Ahem, ahem. "
The trademark coughing sound gave goosebumps to all the students present, and they knew whose voice it was.
Umbridge is coming. She stood a few feet away from Harry, still wearing her standard pink hat and cloak, and holding a clipboard. Hagrid, who hadn't heard Umbridge's fake cough, looked at a Thestrals next to him with some concern, apparently thinking it was the sound it was making.
"Ahem, ahem. "
"Oh, hello!" Hagrid smiled, discovering the source of the strange sound.
"Have you received a note from me to your cabin in the morning?" said Umbridge, slowly and loudly, as if Hagrid were an intellectually retarded and hearing-impaired foreigner, "that I would come to your lesson." "
"Oh, I got it," said Hagrid, cheerfully, "I'm glad you've found the place! look—I don't know—can you see that? We're talking about Thestrals to-day—"
"I'm sorry," Professor Umbridge cried out, holding his hand to his ear in the shape of a cup, frowning, "what did you say?"
Hagrid looked a little confused.
"Uh-Thestrals!" he said loudly, "Big-uh-winged, you know!"
He slapped his thick arm twice in his eagerness. Professor Umbridge raised an eyebrow at him, writing on the clipboard as he spoke, "Lean, clumsy, gesture." "
"Good. Hagrid said, turning to face the student, looking a little flustered, "Uh, where did I go?"
"Remember, it seems, very poor. Umbridge said, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Many of the Slytherin students looked like they were watching the show, and most of the Gryffindor students glared at Umbridge, especially Hermione, whose face turned red.
"Oh," Hagrid glanced uneasily at Umbridge's clipboard, but spoke bravely. "Yes, I was about to tell you how this group came to be. This, at the beginning, had only one stallion and five mares. This one's called Uwu," he patted the horse that appeared first, "my favorite, the first one born in this forest—"
"Did you know," Umbridge interrupted in a loud voice, "that the Ministry of Magic has classified Thestrals as a dangerous animal?"
Harry's hearts sank, but Hagrid just smiled, he didn't take Hermione's warnings seriously, and he didn't realize that his next words would cause him trouble.
"Thestrals aren't dangerous! Of course, if you really get into trouble, they might bite you-"
"Yes—brutality—performance—pleasure. Umbridge wrote in his notebook again.
"No—no," Hagrid said, a little anxious, "I mean, dogs still bite, right- Thestrals only have a bad reputation for being associated with dead people—people used to think it was unlucky, right? just ignorance, right?"
Umbridge didn't answer. She finished the last stroke, looked up at Hagrid, and said slowly, loudly, "Please continue the lecture as usual, I want to be among the students—" She pointed to the students.
"Take a walk. She made a gesture of walking, and the Slytherin students sneered.
"Ask a question. She pointed to her mouth again to speak.
Hagrid glared at her, apparently completely confused why she thought he didn't understand normal English. But all the students could see that Umbridge did it on purpose, and that she thought Hagrid was a humanoid with low intelligence.
Hermione stared at Umbridge with red eyes, gritted her teeth, and said, "I'll make her pay." "
It turns out that Solim had said that Umbridge was extremely hostile to creatures of non-human origin, and they thought that Umbridge's treatment of Professor Flitwick was insulting enough, but today Harry and they understood what the real insult was, thanks to Hagrid...... I don't really understand, if you change your head a little brighter, you can blow Umbridge's head on the spot.
"Just wait. Hermione gritted her teeth and said, "I will make this dirty, slutty, ugly, perverted, vicious woman pay!"
It was the first time Harry had seen Hermione use so many adjectives to describe a person, and it was certain that Umbridge was going to be out of luck.
