Harry Potter Morning Light
Chapter 3139 Knight and Horse Mane
In ancient Rome, knights initially referred to all cavalry, and later referred to people who could raise horses. This is due to the frequent wars between tribes in the early days of ancient Rome, and a group of soldiers specializing in combat was formed around the clan chiefs, including cavalry.
Horses were not used for farming in the Mediterranean like in Britain, nor could they produce wool like sheep, nor were they "specialized" for transportation like mules and donkeys.
In short, raising a horse requires some "spare money", and as time went by, knights became people with certain properties, and they became a class, running farms, lending usury, selling slaves, farming taxes and public works. Unlike the nobles, who took matters into their own hands, they had no intention of entering politics anyway, and the Senate later issued a ban prohibiting the senators from engaging in business.
Caesar had seen the cavalry of the German king Ariapestus in Gaul, which numbered 6,000 men and were equipped with the same number of infantry. Each of these infantrymen is agile. If they need to advance over long distances or retreat quickly, the trained infantrymen can respond immediately and advance and retreat with the cavalry just by clinging to the horse's mane. If a cavalryman was seriously injured and fell off his horse, the infantrymen would immediately surround him and form a protection.
In 75 BC, when Pompey was fighting in Spain, he reported to the Senate that the soldiers not only suffered heavy losses in the war, but also gained nothing but worthless trophies. The war was full of dangers, the odds of victory were low, and it was not very glorious. The generals and soldiers were passive in participating in the war. Moreover, the military pay had been in arrears for two years, and the soldiers had a tendency to disband on their own. If the Roman government had been less negligent in their conduct of the Spanish wars, they would have avoided most of their ills.
Disbanding on its own means that this Roman legion will change from organized robbery to unorganized robbery, and the stragglers will become the largest bandits in Spain. Cities with defensive measures may be better, but the countryside will be unlucky.
The same situation also happened in Gaul. When the German mercenaries invited by the Seguanni defeated the Aeduvians, an Aeduvian named Diviciagus went to the Roman Senate for help, because only He was alone, free from oaths and hostages, but the Senate paid no attention to him.
To put it nicely, the senators felt that it was an internal fight among the barbarians and Rome did not need to intervene.
To put it mildly... During the Spartacus Rebellion, the rebels camped under Mount Vesuvius twice, but they never went to Pompeii, at least there is no record of this in history.
Mount Vesuvius is world-famous because it once erupted and buried the ancient city of Pompeii under volcanic ash.
However, Pompeii is not the only seaside hot spring resort city that has the same conditions as Pompeii, but they were not buried by volcanic ash. Like other ancient Roman cities, they disappeared with the changes of the times. Instead, Pompeii, which was once thought to have been destroyed, remained intact. Gotta keep it.
People from all over the world bring various ways of enjoying themselves. As long as you are rich enough, every day is a Bacchanalia.
Usury would erode the foundation of Rome, but no one could resist the temptation of huge profits it brought.
The Eduwe, who did not invite reinforcements, had no choice but to pay tribute to the Germans and hand over their children as hostages. In addition, they had to swear an oath. The ancients believed in gods, whether they were Roman gods, Gaulish gods, or Germanic gods. They believed that breaking an oath would result in punishment. However, the Eduwe who ran to bring in reinforcements did not have this restriction, because he No swearing.
Many of the military uniforms of the Roman legions, including the horsehair decorations on the helmet crowns, were actually white. In fact, all red only existed for a short period of time during Caesar's Gallic Legion.
In addition, the Roman Guards established by Octavian also used columnar crests and horsehair as accessories in order to be more imposing.
Although the function of the Praetorian Guards is now generally considered to be to protect the emperor, this title already existed during the Roman Republic, and they were to protect the generals' camps.
However, the Roman Imperial Guards in history have always had an unclear relationship with conspiracies, so at the beginning of the 4th century AD, Emperor Constantine disbanded the Guards which had served for 300 years.
Pomona took Random to play in London for a whole day. Not only did they eat Sicilian ice cream, they also went to Buckingham Palace and watched the Changing of the Guards ceremony.
When the sun began to set in the west, Pomona took Random to another place.
"Where is this?" Random asked looking at the ordinary house.
"You'll find out later," Pomona said with a smile.
Then she knocked on the door.
A decoration on the door suddenly moved, and it looked like an open eye. Random was startled by it.
"It's me, Alastor." Pomona said calmly.
"Alastor? Alastor Moody?" Random asked slightly horrified.
"Yes, he is a famous Auror." Pomona smiled sweetly, then looked at the strange eyes on the door, "Can you let us in?"
After a while, the door opened, revealing an ordinary small courtyard. Like many British families, the trash can was placed in the courtyard, but the garbage inside had not been cleaned for a long time, and the lid of the trash can could not be closed.
"Why are we here?" Random stood at the door, unwilling to enter the yard.
"Find you a good master." Pomona said. "Moody is an outstanding Auror..."
"He's still a lunatic." Random said resistingly, "I don't want to follow him."
"Come in, sir!" Pomona tried to catch Random, but he dodged him.
Like Severus said, he was very agile.
"No!" Random looked at Pomona. "Why are you doing this?"
"It's time for Moody to retire. He has reached the age of retirement." Severus handed a glass of firewhiskey to Pomona. "It will be good for all of us."
"What did Dumbledore say?" Pomona asked as he took the drink.
"It's good for all of us." Severus repeated what he just said. "Of course we can't let him just retire and have nothing to do. He can't be idle."
"Don't you want to be an Auror?" Pomona asked.
"No, when did I say I wanted to be an Auror?" Random asked strangely.
"Then why are you training so hard?" Pomona asked.
"To be stronger." Random said.
"What else?" Pomona asked reluctantly.
Random scratched his hair in embarrassment.
"I want to be like Scamander."
"What?" Pomona couldn't help but raise her voice.
"Protect animals, or prevent people from harming them." Random said excitedly, "I don't want to be an Auror, I would rather run 20 miles with a heavy load."
Pomona was going crazy. She didn't expect this kid...
"You're right, kid." Moody's voice sounded from behind the door. "People are much harder to deal with than animals."
Random probably didn't expect Moody to speak for him, but even if Moody helped him, he didn't appreciate it.
"You are Dumbledore's lobbyist, right?" Moody said coldly, "You want me to be a nanny after I retire?"
"No one said that, Alastor," Pomona said softly. "This kid needs training."
"Go back, before I drive you away." Moody said coldly.
Pomona waited a moment, then turned and left the courtyard.
She glared at Random as the door closed.
"Have you finished your summer homework?" Pomona said cruelly to Random.
"Can I trade? I'd rather run 50 miles." Random said bargainingly.
Pomona smiled sweetly.
"No."
Random let out a wail at her answer.
"Go back to your summer homework, young sir." Pomona said, apparating away with Random in tow.
Legend has it that the Spartacus Rebellion broke out in the gladiator kitchens, and the Sequonni and Eduwe, who were originally enemies, provided food to Caesar's legions and supported them in their attack on the Germans.
Moody was right, just forget it if Random doesn't want to be an Auror, after all, it is his "independent" choice.
