The structure of my brother-in-law's house is the same as that of my second aunt's house. The two rooms are both simple houses. It's just that the room is not that clean, and there is no furniture.

Grandma lives in the back room, which has a kang. There are also two large boxes, supported by stools. There is no such thing as a wardrobe.

The brother-in-law lives in an outhouse, with an iron frame bed placed near the north wall. This kind of bed consists of two iron frames, with two triangular irons on the sides as supports, two square logs as cross arms, and a few wooden boards on top as bed boards.

The door and window are integrated, and next to the window is a cupboard. There is a door at the bottom, rice and noodles are placed inside, and bowls and chopsticks are placed above.

There is a dining table in the middle of the room with four stools. When eating and having guests over, we all sit around the table. The furniture is very old and must have been dug out of ruins.

Grandma is cooking. The staple food is rice. The dish is cabbage stew with crunch. Crunch is a unique non-staple food in Tangshan, and Ye Yuze didn't understand what it was made of.

Divided into big creaking and small creaking. The big ones are similar to pancakes, and the small ones are similar to vermicelli. Ye Yuze prefers to eat Xiaokezhi. My brother-in-law's family probably rarely eats this because grandma only bought a little.

Like all northerners, every household stores some Chinese cabbage every winter.

The so-called cabbage price means that cabbage is extremely cheap when it comes out in autumn, costing more than ten kilograms per cent. Ordinary people like to dig a hole in the yard, put cabbage in it, cover it with plastic sheeting, and finally bury it with soil.

But the brother-in-law’s family obviously didn’t store enough cabbage. This means you don’t have the money to buy so much. Generally speaking, a moderately decent family can store enough cabbage to last through the winter.

At this moment, the pit in his house is still there, but the cabbage in it is no longer there, but there are some cabbage leaves next to the water tank in the outhouse.

Ye Yuze understood it at a glance. His grandfather told him. Some people in the city who are having a hard time often go to the supply and marketing cooperative to pick up leaves broken off by the salesperson.

At that time, the supply and marketing cooperatives also stored a large amount of cabbage, which basically had to be sold throughout the winter, since there was little vegetable. However, when the cabbage is put out for sale, the outer leaves will be rotten, and the salesperson will break them off and throw them away.

People from poor families will wake up early every morning and stare at the salesperson. When others broke it off, they picked up the better ones and ate them as vegetables.

Ye Yuze's nose was a little sore, and his brother-in-law and grandma were over seventy years old. Her waist is as curved as her own grandma's.

Many old people in that era were like that. When they got older, they couldn't straighten their waists. I don’t know if it’s because I was too tired when I was young, or if it’s due to nutritional issues.

At least Ye Yuze also bought some stewed vegetables, otherwise he would be too embarrassed to use his chopsticks to eat the stewed vegetables. Grandma looked at the paper package opened by Ye Yuze and was stunned for a while:

"You gave me so much last time, and you bought me again today. If you spend money like this, won't your family complain about you?"

Ye Yuze smiled: "Grandma, my parents are both in Northern Xinjiang, and I live at my second aunt's house."

Grandma muttered: "He is also a poor child who left home at such a young age."

When Ye Yuze opened the pot, he realized that there was very little rice in it. It was probably not enough for him and his brother-in-law. But there is a grate on top of the rice, and a few cornmeal steamed buns are placed on it.

Grandma gave them each a bowl of rice, and then she picked up a steamed bun and ate it.

Ye Yuze pushed the rice to grandma, picked up a steamed bun and ate it: "Grandma, you eat rice, I like to eat steamed bun!"

This is not entirely a lie. Ye Yuze has basically never eaten this thing. Although cornmeal is relatively thick, it has a special aroma.

Grandma glanced at him and said nothing. Ye Yuze picked up two pieces of pork head and put them into Grandma's bowl:

"Grandma, eat it quickly! If you don't eat it, I won't eat it either!"

The reason why he gave it to grandma was because Ye Yuze saw that if he didn't give it to her, she would definitely not take it himself. It is estimated that the ones I brought last time also ended up in my brother-in-law's stomach.

Grandma finally took a bite of the rice, and then stuffed a piece of pork into her mouth. There are not many teeth left, so when she eats, she just rolls it in her mouth a few times and then swallows it.

After dinner, Ye Yuze and his brother-in-law went to pull coal, which was a small pull cart with a long handle and two wheels. People in Tangcheng call it Pai Zi Che. I don’t know why it is called Ye Yuze, but the word "Pai" in this Pai Zi Che has three sounds.

The platoon car was borrowed from a neighbor. The three families who wanted coal were all neighbors on the same street. To buy coal, you need a coal book, so you had to go to someone else's house to get the coal book and money before you could go to the coal station.

None of the three families wanted much, but they couldn't mix it up because they couldn't divide it when they came back. However, Ye Yuze picked up a broken paper box to separate them, and brought the two families together.

However, when the truck was unloaded, the old lady from the first family personally supervised it with a broom, even sweeping the coal surface of her own house, for fear that the next family would take advantage of it.

Originally, three trips would take half a day, but this saves one trip and it's a lot of money. The brother-in-law earned one dollar and a half and gave one dollar to his grandmother. He took the fifty cents and said to Ye Yuze:

"Shall I treat you to a movie?"

Ye Yuze didn't refuse. It was rare for this guy to be so happy. On the way, my brother-in-law bought a box of Chungeng cigarettes, which cost 21 cents per box.

He picked one up, lit it in his mouth, and handed another one to Ye Yuze. Ye Yuze also took it and lit it. He smoked cigarettes, but he was not addicted. I usually can't remember it.

But he probably doesn't know how to smoke, because it goes in his mouth and comes out through his nose. Don't breathe it into your lungs at all.

The theater they came to was called the Great Wall Cinema. Ye Yuze suddenly remembered something and asked his brother-in-law: "Is there a Great Wall here? Where was the movie that Old Xiong was talking about?"

The brother-in-law smiled and pointed to the cinema. : "Where did the Great Wall come from in the city? The Great Wall he was talking about was this cinema!"

Ye Yuze was a little confused, how could such an old movie theater bear be covered? When we got to the ticket gate, there was already a long queue of people buying tickets.

Today's movie is "Xiyingmen!" It is a comedy, so it has a very large audience. Ye Yuze couldn't help but sigh:

"A city is a city! You can watch movies at any time!"

Think about it, in northern Xinjiang, it takes almost a month to watch a movie. You have to wait until the projectionist goes down to the company to see it. There is a cinema at the regiment headquarters, but the frequency of broadcasts is similar to that of the company.

The two were about to queue up to buy tickets when a voice came. : "Brother-in-law, do you two watch movies too?"

Ye Yuze turned around and saw that Daxiong was standing aside with several half-grown children. The brother-in-law nodded indifferently, as if he was not too enthusiastic about Big Bear. Big Bear didn’t take it seriously and said enthusiastically:

"Why don't you buy a ticket when you come to my territory? Wait!"

After saying that, he directly pulled the two people to the ticket gate.
