Colonial Suit

#143 - Tears of deception

With a crisp snap, Bloodshot broke the well-dressed man's shin.

The well-dressed man immediately began to scream miserably. Jules, who was walking out of the crowd, paused when he heard this sound, but quickly left.

Bloodshot bent down, coldly staring at the screaming, well-dressed man, watching his distorted face, his foot not loosening its pressure.

“Did you think that because you listened to her, I wouldn’t dare kill you?”

“Ah, ah, ah…” The well-dressed man howled in pain, unable to say a word.

He shook his head desperately, now understanding that the indifferent man before him was simply a god of slaughter. In his eyes, the concept of power simply didn't exist, or rather, he didn't care.

The decisions he made, he would carry out to the end.

The well-dressed man's screams caused a commotion among the surrounding guards, but Robbie's gun quickly calmed them down.

“Don't move…” Robbie maintained a humble smile, looking like a big boy next door. “Now is high-level dialogue time, you small fries better be aware of your place.”

“Yes, yes… Disturbing Bloodshot-sama's questioning is unforgivable no matter what,” the Gemini siblings also shouted, eager to stir up trouble. Little Posy even threw down her ice cream and pulled a silver thread from her wrist.

Their gazes were pure, but anyone stared at by them felt a chill rise from the bottom of their hearts.

“嗝.” Ripper burped and continued to sleep.

Despite the many people present, the well-dressed man felt like he was all alone, despairing little by little in Bloodshot's cold gaze. Finally… he gave in.

“Fifty thousand star credits, I can’t come up with it right now.”

“You can write an IOU.” Bloodshot tore a piece of cloth from his clothes and threw it into the well-dressed man's arms.

The well-dressed man trembled, using shaking fingers to dip into the blood and write the IOU. When the last stroke was finished, he felt like all the strength in his body had disappeared, and he collapsed to the ground.

Bloodshot put away this 'primitive' IOU, then coldly released him, leading his group away.

Of the hundreds of guards present, not a single one dared to block them for even a moment.

Back in the shuttle, everyone went to rest. Bloodshot then threw the IOU in front of Robbie. “The job of collecting is up to you.”

“Why is it always me who gets stuck with this thankless task?” Robbie said with a wry smile.

“Because I'm not good at communicating, and you're best at fooling idiots. What else can I say, you're a priest.” Bloodshot replied matter-of-factly.

“Priests aren't liars…” Robbie's voice of resistance grew weaker and weaker, and he finally accepted reality helplessly.

After dealing with this matter, Bloodshot returned to his room. After thinking about the ins and outs of this matter for a while, he suddenly got up and walked towards Pandora's room.

At this moment, Pandora was sitting quietly in an armchair facing the window, playing with a delicate glass. Her eyes were blank, as if she was thinking about something. Suddenly hearing a knock, she jumped up in fright.

“P… please… please… come in…”

Her stuttering appearance made her look like a frightened deer.

Bloodshot walked into the room and quietly looked at her.

“B… Bloodshot-sama.” Pandora's face turned red, and her hands twisted unconsciously in front of her, revealing her inner unease.

“I came to see how you were doing,” Bloodshot said lightly.

“I… I'm fine. Really… really fine,” Pandora stammered, then suddenly seemed to remember something. “Ah… quickly… quickly sit down. I… I'll… I'll get you a drink.”

“No need. I’ll be leaving in a moment,” Bloodshot replied, then carefully observed the purple-haired woman before him.

At this moment, Pandora had returned to her pitiful appearance when she had just been rescued. But for some reason, Bloodshot felt that her performance was not that simple.

He gestured for Pandora to sit down, and then sat down in front of Pandora himself.

“I think… we should talk.”

“Ah… yes… yes. What would Bloodshot-sama… like to talk about?” Pandora said uneasily.

“Your condition,” Bloodshot replied, then took out a cigarette from his pocket. “Is it alright?”

“P… please… do as you like.”

Bloodshot lit the cigarette, took a deep puff, and then watched the smoke slowly rise. “Pandora… I want to know, why has your change been so great? I mean… your personality.”

“Th… this…” Pandora lowered her head, her face slightly red, stammering for a long time without saying a word.

Bloodshot wasn't in a hurry, and just quietly looked at her. After a long while, Pandora lowered her head and said timidly. “Th… this is… a self… self-protective… personality.”

“Self-protective personality? What does that mean?” Bloodshot frowned, asking in confusion.

“It's a kind of… in an unfamiliar environment… a second personality created to protect oneself.” Having seemed to make up her mind, Pandora's words gradually stopped stuttering.

“You can think of her as a second me… just… a me with a different personality.”

“This is a headache.” Bloodshot gradually understood. He rubbed his forehead. “Are you saying that if the environment is different, there might be a third personality, a fourth personality?”

“Theoretically speaking… yes… yes,” Pandora replied uneasily. “But I'm not mature enough… so… I only developed a second personality. Her name… is Nellie.”

“Nellie…” Bloodshot chewed on the name, then took a deep breath. “How did she appear, and… what is she for?”

“Her appearance… requires a medium,” Pandora replied dejectedly. “But it’s broken.”

“Those antique glasses?” Bloodshot guessed it with just a thought. In fact, he had noticed those antique glasses a long time ago. You should know that with the current level of technology, very few people wear those antique glasses anymore, they are meaningless except for decoration.

“Y… yes.”

“What is the second personality for?” Bloodshot asked again.

“She can protect me…” Pandora lowered her head, unconsciously playing with the corners of her skirt. “My personality… is too cowardly. Nellie can protect me from being bullied. And… she also has combat abilities.”

“Combat abilities!?” Bloodshot noticed the key point.

“Y… yes,” Pandora replied cautiously. “My abilities… can only be used for support. But Nellie's abilities… can be used to attack.”

“You can have two ability systems!?” Bloodshot was really surprised this time. He never would have thought that there would be such people in the universe.

The same individual can possess two different ability systems. What does this mean? This means that they have twice the development space as ordinary people!! It's like the Gemini siblings, because of ability sharing, they can have twice the number of abilities as ordinary people. What a huge and terrifying improvement this is.

You must know that when you are promoted to a high-level ability, any high-level ability may have a decisive effect on the outcome. Having a few more abilities is like having nuclear weapons!

This Pandora is so amazing.

“Indeed… that's really how it is,” Pandora still looked timid. “Although we are one person, we do have two ability systems. My abilities are mainly support-type, while Nellie's… are combat-type. This is a characteristic of our race.”

“Your race, you’ve recovered your memories?”

“N… not yet.” Perhaps Bloodshot's expression was too surprised, Pandora replied in a flustered manner, her face about to cry. “I… I just vaguely remember. They… they are all like this… some people even have a third personality… a fourth personality or something.”

Four personalities… Bloodshot gasped. If calculated according to two abilities, four personalities would be eight abilities… this number is too terrifying. If the quality of the abilities keeps up, wouldn't even genius warriors be out of reach?

What a terrible race this is.

“I now know… why you were attacked,” Bloodshot said dryly after being shocked for a while.

“I… I really don't remember anything…” Pandora replied with a sad face.

“Alright. I know.” Bloodshot stood up, intending to end this conversation. He now knew that the trouble Pandora brought was definitely greater than he imagined, which made him feel very bad.

Even if he was ignorant, he should know how important the ability enhancement brought about by this multiple personality is. This is definitely a rare race that only appears in advanced worlds. He can encounter this, and it has to be said that his luck is too 'good'. And the most important thing is that the identity of the purple-haired girl in front of him is not simple, and she was even hunted down.

Bloodshot could almost imagine how terrible an attack he would suffer when the people chasing Pandora discovered that she was with him.

For a time, Bloodshot even had the idea of giving up Pandora.

But his personality did not allow him to do so.

Having grown up in the apocalyptic world of x35, Bloodshot was used to challenges and had never feared them. He couldn't retreat, because he knew that once there was a retreat, there would be a second and a third.

And when retreat becomes a habit, he loses the qualification to survive. Cowards… are not worthy of living in this competitive universe.

“You rest. In the future… it's better to appear as Nellie's personality. As for the medium, are those antique glasses necessary?”

“N… no need. As long as they are similar glasses… they will do,” Pandora replied cautiously, her face much better. When she found that Bloodshot didn't mean to give up on her, her unease gradually disappeared.

For her now, Bloodshot was her only lifeline.

“Very good. I will have someone prepare a new pair of glasses for you,” Bloodshot left these words and walked out of the room.

Looking at his firm back, Pandora's expression was complicated…

“Bloodshot-sama… is a good person… but if you find out that I have deceived you… will you… still protect me like this?”

Pandora hugged her legs and curled up together. Her small body was submerged in the shadows of the room…

Silently… she was already in tears.

“I really… have no choice…”
