American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#275 - Multiple Entanglement: Where is the Captain?
"So, you're saying the Captain has been lost to another universe?"
Nick Fury hurried over. After hearing this news from Luke, a feeling of frustration immediately weighed on his chest. Although he and the Captain occasionally had disagreements, their cooperation was generally tacit and harmonious. What's more, the official leader was missing. How was he supposed to explain this to the Council?
The Captain took a business trip to another universe, saved a world, and then got lost on the way back due to some accident?
"Obviously." Strange sat in his chair, waving his hands in the air. He also found it amazing. It was the first time he'd seen Luke's technology involved in such an accident.
"Can he be brought back?" Nick asked subconsciously. There was no way he could give up on the Captain, and the sooner he was brought back, the better. He didn't want to get caught in any more troublesome vortexes.
"It's a bit difficult. We don't know exactly which universe he's lost in right now. According to Mephisto and the others, the multiverse is too vast, and no one can truly grasp everything completely. Without coordinates, searching is like looking for a needle in a haystack." Luke, who was usually obliging, had to give Nick a disappointing answer this time.
"Wait, what about the ring? The ring the Captain is wearing, according to the third version of the ring's instruction manual after the update, should have coordinate functions after the upgrade, right? I remember this was a specially established emergency module updated for exploring the universe. I remember there were some other miscellaneous things on it." Nick suddenly remembered some information about the ring in his mind, and he quickly asked Luke for confirmation.
"The ring does have coordinate functions, which can allow us to determine the Captain's location. But that's limited to our single universe. If it's another universe, these functional modules can still work, but the effect is uncertain. After all, I've almost sprinkled this single universe with [Beacons], which are communication base stations. But other universes haven't been connected to the data dimension yet. So the Captain should only be able to play in single-player mode now." Luke patiently explained to Nick in the most accessible way possible.
"So, are we going to have to prepare for the complete loss of the Captain?" When Nick said this, the frustration in his heart weighed even heavier.
"It depends on the environmental conditions of the universe the Captain is in. If it's not too different from our universe, he can still use the ring's functions to save himself." Luke gave an answer that made Nick's spirits lift.
Nick's one eye stared intently at Luke, with an expression that said, 'Tell me more.'
"The Avengers' rings generally have some storage functions to deal with some troubles. Among them are some Hebron and Stark technology, as well as the construction methods of [Mind Beacons]. If the Captain strengthens the signal, then we might be able to quickly determine his coordinates." Luke gave a simple and easy-to-understand answer.
"This is truly a terrible day!" Nick rubbed his forehead. He was already imagining the headache he would have when he returned and faced the Council's various questions.
And he had to find a way to stabilize them and stabilize the situation. Undoubtedly, Luke telling him this news was clearly intended to have him maintain the situation for a certain period of time.
Nick was already considering whether he should tell a few white lies this time or reveal the truth and let the situation completely collapse.
"If it really doesn't work out, you can have the Captain from another universe come and help. Anyway, the intelligent system has already penetrated the political system. As long as you help, the Captain from another universe can last for a long time without being discovered.
If you agree, I'll start preparing a custom-made ring of the same model for the new Captain, and then bring him along when we welcome back Tony." Luke offered an idea.
Although this idea sounded like a very unreliable bad idea, Nick was somewhat tempted when he thought about the trivial troubles he would face in the future.
"This sounds like losing someone and then finding a clone to replace them. It sounds a bit horrifying," Strange blinked and expressed his personal opinion from the side.
He felt that even another universe's version of himself would be different from him. Moreover, whether doing so was appropriate and whether it would cause some unknown trouble were all matters that he, as the Sorcerer Supreme, needed to consider. This was also one of his responsibilities.
"The situation calls for expediency," Nick added, but he didn't make a decision. Even if the hope was slim, he still hoped that the Captain could be found before he took this step.
After Nick hurried away, Luke and Strange had to face another trouble.
"So, what exactly are you planning to do with me?" A reluctant guest named America Chavez looked at Luke and Strange with some nervousness.
"This isn't something I should manage. I'm responsible for finding the Captain, and you're responsible for handling this trouble. We'll cooperate and divide the work." Luke gave Strange a probing look.
Admittedly, her abilities to travel through the multiverse and repair cosmic rifts were very tempting to Luke, but after drawing a tube of blood, he didn't care whether she was in his hands or not.
Anyway, as long as she was still in this universe, it didn't matter where she was.
Strange opened his mouth, originally wanting to refuse. He had a pile of troublesome matters to deal with, but after looking at the strange look in Chavez's eyes when she looked at him, he nodded in response to this supervisory responsibility under the influence of some inspiration. After all, if they really found the Captain, they might need her help. It wouldn't be good to let her go now.
"I don't want to follow him." Chavez glanced at Strange with dislike, rejecting while looking at Luke and asking, "Can I stay by your side?"
"I'm afraid not. I don't have time to look after you," Luke shook his head. He didn't have much personal time, and he had to divide some of it between Yina and Becky. He was too lazy to be a supervisor, even if he could hand this task over to his constructs.
Rude and Venom said: Anyway, there's already a little Becky, so there's no difference with a big kid.
But he always felt that handing her over to Strange for management was the best way to handle it.
Chavez still wanted to say something, but she was directly taken away by a rotating and moving portal. When Strange followed and drilled into the new portal, he didn't forget to turn his head and remind Luke, "If there's any news about the Captain, please notify internally."
...
The stars in the sky were sparsely lit, and the wind carried a humid atmosphere before the rain.
Inside an abandoned factory.
A group of people were conducting a transaction.
"This is what you want." A fierce-looking man pointed to a pile of metal instruments behind him. "They're very expensive. Where's the money you brought?"
A burly man walked out of the shadows opposite the man. He was wearing a tight-fitting suit, holding a circular shield in his hand, and only his jaw was exposed under the hood. The man silently placed the box he was carrying in his other hand on the table in the middle, opening it under the gaze of the man and his subordinates, revealing neat stacks of cash inside.
"Boss, this guy seems to have just robbed our organization's money." Seeing the figure exposed to the light, a subordinate next to the man fearfully pointed the muzzle of his gun at the burly man opposite.
"Did I rob your money? Sorry." The burly man also heard the conversation on the opposite side. He raised his empty hand high, his tone extremely sincere, apologizing very sincerely.
"Damn it!" The fierce man immediately drew his weapon and aimed it at the burly man opposite along with his lackeys. However, the burly man's reaction was faster than theirs. The moment they drew their guns, the man's figure disappeared into the darkness.
Then, a circular shield bumped around in the slightly complex environment of the abandoned factory, attacking the group of people.
PS: Thanks to Silent Peak for the reward.
PS1: Let's focus on writing about the Captain's multi-dimensional journey in this volume first. But I'm not familiar with DC, let's see how it goes. If you like to read it, I'll write more, if not, I'll write less.
