American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#242 - Galaxy at War
Klyn Prison.
Star-Lord's meticulously planned prison break was progressing steadily, even reaching its final stage: successfully breaching the prison's defenses and escaping with everyone.
As a moderately well-known prison in the universe, Klyn Prison's defenses were quite impressive. A defense network composed of various technologies and armed robots, along with a central defense platform made of extremely durable materials capable of sending distress and warning signals at any time, ensured that, under normal circumstances, no one could successfully break through the layers of defenses and escape completely.
But Star-Lord and his group were anything but ordinary. Rocket Raccoon's technical skills paralyzed the prison's intelligent system, causing most of the defenses to temporarily lock down and fail. The strength of Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and others, combined with weapons crafted by Rocket Raccoon using his technology and stolen energy, allowed them to withstand the suppression of the armed robots.
They even successfully broke into the central defense platform and activated a small armed transport ship within the prison.
The prison break was proceeding smoothly so far.
After Star-Lord and his team escaped, and the internal chaos among the inmates was barely suppressed, Klyn Prison came under a fierce external attack. Due to the still-recovering intelligent system and the deactivated defenses, Klyn Prison offered virtually no resistance and was quickly captured by the invaders.
"Star-Lord and his team aren't here, and my sister's signal is gone," Nebula said after examining Klyn Prison's logs, discovering that Star-Lord and his team had successfully escaped less than two days before they arrived.
"The Godseekers didn't come?" Standing at the central defense platform's railing, Ronan the Accuser looked down at the inmates being lined up and searched by Kree soldiers with weapons.
"No sign of them in the surveillance. However, there are traces of violent intrusion in the system, using technology somewhat similar to the Godseekers' intrusion techniques. But I can't be sure," Nebula said uncertainly.
"Damn it!" Ronan slammed the railing, his furious punch bending the sturdy unknown alloy metal. "Let's go, they can't have gone far!"
"What about them?" Nebula followed closely behind Ronan as he turned to leave and return to the Kree warship, the Dark Aster.
"No one can know we were here," Ronan replied coldly. At his command, the Kree soldiers pulled the triggers of their weapons. When the Nova Corps of the Xandar civilization received the alarm and rushed over, they found only a ruined prison and corpses everywhere.
...
Cosmic polar region.
A massive, nearly hollowed-out sphere resembling an asteroid floated in the empty expanse of space.
Lights flashed as a spaceship emerged from hyperspace, paused briefly to identify its coordinates, and then fired its thrusters, heading towards the sphere.
"Knowhere, the domain of the Collector, Taneleer Tivan. His origins are mysterious, and I don't know much about him. But wherever there are abundant resources, he's there. He's a major figure in the cosmic black market," Gamora said slowly, relaying the information she knew to the group as the metal sphere grew closer.
"This metal sphere is the skull of an ancient Celestial, found and developed by Tivan. He's established a mining facility here."
"You're saying this thing is the skull of some ancient Celestial? Are there really monsters that ridiculously huge in the universe?" Star-Lord asked in astonishment, looking at the vast metal sphere as they entered the spaceport and moved inside. He couldn't believe that a monster with a skull that large could have been so powerful when it was alive.
"There are many secrets in the universe. We've docked, let's go," Gamora said, parking the ship and leading the group towards the core central area of the planet.
Before docking, they had contacted Tivan's personnel. As the buyer of the Orb, the Collector Tivan would soon send someone to find them and conduct the transaction.
Indeed, after they wandered around and played in the entertainment venues in the core area for a while, a woman claiming to be the Collector's servant found them and took them to meet her master, Tivan.
...
In the desolate Knowhere, a massive black warship emerged from hyperspace, floating silently in space.
"The signal is correct?"
Inside the warship, Ronan the Accuser, seated on his command chair, gripped his Universal Weapon and turned to Nebula, who was controlling the direction.
"It's correct, the signal is here," Nebula replied confidently.
"Good, it seems they've had a falling out," Ronan said, rising from his seat, donning his armor, and giving the order to enter Knowhere with his troops.
"Aren't we waiting for the Chitauri and the Black Order?" Nebula asked, moving to keep pace with Ronan, tilting her head to the side.
"No need to wait for them. I need to get the Orb myself, not let the Black Order get it. Also, I hope this is the last time you leak information to them without permission," Ronan said coldly, glancing at Nebula and quickening his pace.
Nebula's expression shifted, and she followed again.
...
"What is it? That's a good question." Tivan had obviously been preparing for this moment for a long time and had a deep understanding of the Orb. He skillfully used the instrument to separate the Orb, revealing a nail-sized gem inside, shimmering with a brilliant purple halo, like a diamond.
While controlling the instrument, Tivan seemed pleased and in high spirits because he had obtained the gem, satisfying Star-Lord's thirst for knowledge. He continued, "According to legend, it is one of the six Infinity Stones that appeared in the earliest days of the universe. They possess incredibly powerful forces, held by a group of powerful Celestials.
...
Hmm? Another visitor? Do you know Ronan the Accuser?"
The Collector Tivan suddenly stopped his explanation, frowned slightly, and then looked at Star-Lord and the others.
"It seems you do. Is he here for you?" Seeing the expressions of Star-Lord and the others change instantly, the Collector Tivan gave the answer without waiting for them to reply. "It seems you are in trouble, that's a radical troublemaker. The Kree Empire has been somewhat unusual in recent years, their Supreme Intelligence has had some problems, and it occasionally falls into slumber. So some factions within them are fighting for the little computing power it has left when the Supreme Intelligence is dormant. Currently, the peace faction dominates, they believe that expansion and aggression should be suspended, and the little computing power of the Supreme Intelligence should be used internally by the Kree first. When the Supreme Intelligence completes its evolution, then they can expand again. The radical and combat factions oppose this. Ronan the Accuser is a representative of the war faction."
"I summoned him," Drax the Destroyer said in a muffled voice. He didn't hide anything at this moment, or he never intended to hide anything from beginning to end. His only purpose was to see Ronan and then take revenge.
"Then this is your business. Please forgive me for not being able to entertain you any longer. If you need my protection and want to use the safe passage to leave safely, that's not impossible. As long as you leave this tree-man as collateral, I will help you stop Ronan, what do you think?" The Collector Tivan walked to the side of the tree-man, touched its trunk with greedy eyes, and turned to look at Star-Lord and the others.
As a person whose collecting hobby has been engraved in his bones, he can't help but have the desire to collect when he sees a rare object in the universe. And Groot's tree-man race is obviously worth collecting in his eyes.
"Don't even think about it, Groot is my partner." Rocket Raccoon jumped up before Star-Lord could speak, picked up the muzzle of his gun, and pointed it at the Collector Tivan. The gun, which was bigger than his body, was lifted in his hand as if it had no weight.
"It seems the negotiation has failed, then I can only wait for you to be dealt with by Ronan and then spend money to buy your corpses." The Collector Tivan was full of regret: "The value of a dead tree-man is somewhat reduced, but it's not unacceptable."
"When did you notify Ronan?" Gamora ignored the collision between the Collector and Rocket Raccoon. She and Star-Lord looked at the muscular Drax in shock. They had always thought this was a muscle-bound idiot with muscles even in his brain, but they didn't expect the other party to have his own plans, and even made such a feat of colluding with the enemy under their noses!
"When I got the ability to communicate with the outside world." Drax took out the two long daggers Rocket Raccoon made for him, and said as he walked out: "You are free to leave, this is my hatred with Ronan, I will solve it here myself."
Gamora and Star-Lord glanced at each other, their hearts moved. But they immediately thought that the outside world might have already been surrounded by the Kree, and no matter what, they could not avoid conflicts with the Kree if they wanted to leave. Unless the Kree were willing to let them leave without hindrance. But that was impossible to imagine.
"If we say that the Orb has already been sold by us, will Ronan stop pestering us and let us leave?" Star-Lord asked Gamora whimsically.
"Maybe." Gamora looked back at the brilliant purple Infinity Stone, her face hesitant. She didn't want Thanos to get this Infinity Stone, but now that Ronan knew the location of the Infinity Stone, it was equivalent to Thanos also knowing. Could the Collector protect this Infinity Stone and prevent it from falling into the hands of Ronan and Thanos?
Gamora was not sure.
Perhaps, selling the Infinity Stone to the Collector like this was not a proper way to deal with it? Perhaps, it should be handed over to a powerful force that could stop Thanos, that would be the best way?
...
Drax ran into Ronan walking into the core area.
Ronan was somewhat surprised to see a burly man covered in muscles rushing towards him wielding long daggers. He gently extended half of the Universal Weapon forward, and a solid energy barrier blocked his path.
As the Kree technology's highest achievement in individual weapons, the function of the Universal Weapon can be completely comparable to some artifacts. It integrates various powerful functions and even has some cosmic rule-level technologies.
His own genes have also been optimized many times by Kree technology, and he has transcended the mundane and can perfectly control the Universal Weapon to exert its destructive power and effect.
Drax's long daggers cut dozens of times on the energy barrier, the blade seemed to cut into some substantial hard object, energy debris splashed lightly, but the barrier remained stable.
Ronan gently twisted the warhammer, and the barrier turned into a fan-shaped surging shock wave, lifting Drax's strong body and the surrounding buildings together.
Drax fell heavily from mid-air, two long daggers scattered on both sides, he resentfully supported his body with his arms, looking at Ronan in the distance who ignored him and continued to move forward.
A voice sounded in his heart.
"Don't you want revenge? The enemy is in front of you."
"You need power, no matter what kind of power!"
"Think of your tragically dead relatives, think of your underage child, you need the power of revenge! Even if it comes from hell and demons."
This kind of voice had not appeared so clearly in his heart for a long time. After he took back the Mask, the connection that the mask had weakened had increased dramatically. He felt that his emotions were more and more in line with the mask, especially after gaining freedom and seeing Ronan now.
Drax took out the mask that the demon had traded to him from his body. His face struggled only for a moment, then he pressed it on his face without hesitation.
He once again felt the power that emerged from within him, and once again lost his calm emotions, and his whole body was immersed in the destructive emotions of anger and hatred. Even the rising anger and hatred turned into blood-red energy, burning like flames around his body. His already strong body swelled two or three circles under the influx of majestic energy, and his height was even half a head taller than his original height. He stared at Ronan, who looked at him in astonishment, with scarlet eyes.
Roar!
Drax let out an unconscious roar, the sound wave set off a transparent spreading sound wave, toes hard, leaving two clear recessed footprints on the hard ground, the whole person instantly disappeared in place, flickering like appearing in front of Ronan, blood-red energy wrapped around his fist like a glove, accompanied by Drax's roar and fist, heavily landed on Ronan's abdomen.
Caught off guard, Ronan's body hunched into a shrimp shape, grabbing his warhammer and was directly knocked out, hitting the wall in front of him, deeply recessed into it.
"Die!"
Drax's fist turned into a sky full of blood-red afterimages, punching like rain on Ronan, who was embedded in the wall, punch after punch, the unknown alloy metal wall with a thickness of at least one meter was directly punched out of a human-shaped hole by him, and Ronan was even punched into the inside of the wall from the outside.
