American comics: Starting with Luke the Maker
#13 - Transformation and Attack [Seeking Follow-up Reading]
Eight months passed in the blink of an eye.
Although the Life Wall project of the Wall Faction had not been fully completed in some areas, it had already entered the final stage. During this time, even though the Jaeger program had improved its victory record against the newly emerging Kaiju, it was clear that the Wall Faction, which had already taken power, would never give the Jaeger program any chance to turn things around.
Even though Shao Industries provided many inspiring technologies, under the tacit agreement of the Wall Faction, not much of it was reported or known to the public.
Eight months later, financial aid was completely stopped, and the major member countries all abandoned the PPDC.
Fortunately, Stacker Pentecost and others never placed their hopes on them. During these eight months, Stacker Pentecost transformed into a "scavenging" expert, visiting the Jaeger graveyard more than three times. Each time, he would take away a discarded, scrapped Jaeger.
With the single-pilot neural handshake system provided by Luke Field, a well-trained and strong-willed person, with the load sharing of the new technology's intelligent system, was able to independently control and pilot a Jaeger on their own. If they were veteran pilots, with the intelligent system's sharing and information processing, they would even perform better than when they were fighting with a dual-pilot neural handshake.
No matter how tacit the understanding between two people was, how much they seemed like one person under the bridge of the neural handshake system, how intimate they were, it was just an illusion. The single-pilot neural handshake system could enable faster reactions and more efficient attacks when piloting a Jaeger.
In the words of the veteran pilots, although the pilots of the dual-pilot neural handshake system could pilot a Jaeger to fight, they could not fully exert the strength of the machine itself in the early stages. The deeper the dual-pilot neural handshake bridge of the Jaeger, the more tacit the cooperation, the more focused they were, the more they could exert the Jaeger's combat power.
The single-pilot neural handshake system reduced these thresholds. With single-person operation and the help of the intelligent assistance system, veteran pilots rarely showed combat power that exceeded that of dual-pilot when piloting a Jaeger alone. In their words, they were even close to a state of unity between man and machine, where the Jaeger was him and he was the Jaeger.
Deus ex machina?
No, the veteran pilots said, I was like a God of War at that time!
This was a good thing.
This was Stacker Pentecost's understanding of it.
The only bad thing was that there was now a surplus of veteran Jaeger pilots who were previously stretched thin!
In order to increase the success rate of the final plan in his heart, and to maximize the role of those veteran pilots, the first thing Stacker Pentecost had to consider was to have new Jaegers.
However, this was impossible. Although the Wall Faction gave the PPDC money on time every month as before, the amount was only enough to maintain the operation of the base and maintain the existing Jaegers. Applying for the construction of new Jaegers would undoubtedly be rejected one hundred percent. Most of the supporting factories were closed, and the major bases were either closed or transferred. The once-hot Jaeger industry chain was now only maintained by Shao Industries. To build new Jaegers, either the supporting factories had to be reopened, or orders had to be placed with Shao Industries.
Either way, it was a huge financial expenditure.
Since he couldn't build new Jaegers, Stacker cleverly set his sights on the old, retired, damaged, and abandoned ones. So in the past few months, he had almost become a scavenging maniac. As long as he felt that any Jaeger still had the value and room for repair, he would mobilize the crowd to transport it back to the PPDC's main base. Even though he knew that his actions had led to him being described as a scavenging general by the outside world, he did not stop.
For him, the plan in his heart was his final battlefield where he would sink or swim. For this, he could bet everything and go all out.
In Stacker's mind, Shao Industries, or rather Luke Field, had also become an excellent partner. No matter how damaged the Jaegers he picked up were, they could transform and upgrade them. Although the PPDC's already meager funds were being lost in large quantities during this repair process, Stacker no longer cared.
In the original timeline, the PPDC at this time only had four Jaegers left. They were the fifth-generation Jaeger Striker Eureka, the fourth-generation Crimson Typhoon, the first-generation veteran Cherno Alpha, which had been repaired, upgraded, and replaced, and Gipsy Danger, which had been picked up and repaired by Mako Mori and Tendo Choi and upgraded to the fourth generation.
Crimson Typhoon, the most powerful, was also lost before the final battle. The veteran pilots also died or were injured, and Stacker was finally forced to take the field himself at the cost of his life.
Now, with Luke's intervention and technology, Stacker had more cards to play. At least Shaolin Rogue was not damaged. In addition to the upgrades and maintenance of these intact Jaegers in the past three months, and the repair of the other three damaged Jaegers, the PPDC's main base, which could accommodate thirty Jaegers, had already housed seven Jaegers in these eight months.
Among them, Cherno Alpha, the earliest built first-generation machine, had been completely overhauled by Luke except for its appearance. Energy system, shield system, intelligent system, weapon system. If Cherno Alpha's actual combat power could be compared to the fourth generation in the case of previous repairs, upgrades, and replacements, then the current Cherno Alpha's actual combat power could completely bear the title of the fifth generation.
At least the two old Russian husband and wife pilots loved the new Cherno Alpha after being transformed by Luke. They believed that Luke's style was the style they liked, and it was simply transformed to their hearts' content. Since the latest Cherno Alpha was upgraded and transformed, the two of them couldn't wait for a Kaiju to appear so they could put it into actual combat after familiarizing themselves with the new machine.
Of course, because the two had been fighting together for ten years and were already familiar with dual-pilot neural handshake combat, they didn't want to separate, so Luke Field didn't make major changes to the cockpit, but simply set it so that the single-pilot neural handshake system would automatically start when one person went offline.
The remaining Crimson Typhoon, Shaolin Rogue, and Gipsy Danger at the PPDC headquarters base were also equipped with some new modules and modifications, making their actual combat capabilities generally one generation higher than their own. At least the three pilots of Crimson Typhoon said that if it was the current Crimson Typhoon, they could completely kill the Kaiju Horda that had previously trapped them and Shaolin Rogue together.
...
"A new Kaiju has appeared and landed outside the Sydney Life Wall."
The base's alarm sounded abruptly, and Tendo Choi quickly reported the information.
"Inquire with Sydney officials, do they need to dispatch Jaegers?" Stacker Pentecost said.
Tendo Choi sent the message according to Stacker's words, and soon he received a reply.
"They said that with the Life Wall, they don't need our Jaegers." Tendo Choi's eyes widened.
