Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Peter
Chapter 3 An Interesting Story
Chapter 3 An Interesting Story
"Oh—" Snape said in a slow, low voice, "this story is about as interesting as the Screaming Shack."
As he spoke, he glanced at Peter again with disgust, and showed a sneering sneer.
Obviously, this story is not really "interesting", the so-called "interesting" is just a kind of irony.
In a long voice, Snapela told his story:
"Just like the murderer Black expected, the process of being bitten by a werewolf was extremely painful. I believe that Black must have gained pleasure from my screams."
"Do not--"
It was the first time Peter had spoken, and upon hearing such a dire accusation, he tried to defend Sirius, but Dumbledore raised a hand to signal him not to interrupt.
Snape went on:
"Fortunately, the pain eventually went away and I passed out and was sent to St Mungo's."
"The bite of a werewolf is not incurable. Applying a mixture of silver powder and white fresh to the wound can stop the bleeding."
"But I was injured too badly, and the black magic attached to the werewolf also prevented the wound from healing. The therapist at St. Mungo's thought that my death was only a matter of time."
"Later, my mother found me. She was a melancholy witch, heartbroken by life. She had been missing for many years before, and her spirit was not very stable."
"She took me from St. Mungo's, and now that death is doomed, she wants me to spend my last moments at home."
As he spoke, he curled his lips: "Actually, I would rather die in St. Mungo than at home. At least I didn't experience so much unhappiness in St. Mungo."
"Shortly things took a turn for the better when Damocles Belby invented the wolfsbane potion, which can alleviate the black magic curse in werewolf disease, allowing the patient to transform into a harmless wolf on a full moon night. "
"My mother is actually a talented and intelligent person, but she wasted her whole life in boring love affairs. She used Belby's formula to successfully brew the wolfsbane potion. I believe that there are not many people in the world who can do it to this point."
"Under the effects of silver powder, white fresh, wolf's poison potion and many other potions, my wounds began to heal, and finally I woke up."
"But my mother passed away shortly thereafter, leaving me alone with my scarred body."
"The vast majority of victims of werewolf bites would rather die. When I got up to make the wolfsbane potion myself and fell down in the cauldron in pain, do you know how I survived?"
Snape narrowed his eyes and looked at Peter. He spoke slowly and softly, as if he was talking about something that had nothing to do with him.
Peter didn't answer.
Imagining the scene described by Snape, his heart twitched again.
Dumbledore and McGonagall were also listening intently.
After a pause, Snape continued: "I told myself over and over again, Black and the others are still living happily, so I can't just collapse in a corner, I want to live, and then let them die on a certain full moon night." It's also become so... interesting."
McGonagall exclaimed, and Dumbledore sat up straight in the chair.
"Don't worry, I'm not here to seek revenge."
He said so, but the smug grin on his face showed that he was actually very satisfied with everyone's reaction just now.
"In fact, when the physical pain was no longer so unbearable, I gave up the idea of revenge, just as Peter Pedillo was in front of me at this moment, and I didn't want to do anything to him at all."
"The application for the teaching post this time is just a whim on my mind. Sometimes people will inexplicably have the idea of returning to the place where they started. Besides, the fire in Hogwarts is just good for my crippled body."
"Okay, that's all for the interesting story, please allow me to tidy up Professor Slughorn's office."
After saying this, Snape stood up and planned to leave, with an unpredictable expression on his face.
Dumbledore nodded and stood up.
"Thank you for your frankness, Severus, it's unbelievable what torture you have endured..."
"I hope... I hope the fires at Hogwarts will actually warm you."
Snape briefly looked at Dumbledore, turned and left without saying anything.
Dumbledore stood there, watching his back, until the sound of his footsteps disappeared across the hall, and Dumbledore sat down again and spoke.
"Minerva, Peter, you have listened to what Professor Snape said from the beginning to the end, what do you want to say?" Dumbledore said.
It turned out that Dumbledore deliberately kept McGonagall and Peter in order to let them listen to Snape's statement together.
Unlike what it looks like on the surface, it is difficult to gain Dumbledore's trust.
Dumbledore would never confide in his heart easily.
If the people around Dumbledore were divided into several circles according to their degree of trust, McGonagall and Peter were undoubtedly in the innermost circle.
"Professor Dumbledore," Peter said, "I don't think Snape is telling lies. If these are all lies, then his acting skills are probably enough to win an award."
Dumbledore put his arms on the table, crossed his fingers, and nodded approvingly.
You know, lies can hardly escape Dumbledore's eyes.
Peter continued: "But we should still pay close attention to his actions. He just mentioned something about revenge, which makes me a little disturbed."
"One more thing... the riots at the Quidditch World Cup, the attack on Mad-Eye Moody, scattered reports of sightings about Quirrell... It's an eventful time, and it never hurts to be cautious."
"You're right, Peter," Dumbledore said, "I've been thinking about the connection between these events. It's a bit suspicious that Professor Snape happened to reappear at this time."
"Albus, I understand your concerns, but since you asked him to join us, why do you still doubt him?" Professor McGonagall said sharply.
"I taught him. Although he was not my student, I still remember him. I have rarely met a student who was as talented and hardworking as him."
"When I saw him today, I was even more sad than when I heard the news of his death. Alas, his face, those hands... I don't know how much he suffered."
As McGonagall said, she wiped her eyes under the square-rimmed glasses with a handkerchief.
"Yes, Minerva," said Dumbledore, bowing his head, "I am the culprit of the Screaming Shack massacre, and his fate is bound up with me."
"No, Professor Dumbledore...it's all our fault, we failed your trust." Peter said eagerly.
"Don't argue with me, Peter," said Dumbledore softly, "abandoned by his family, he came to Hogwarts with hopes and dreams to make it his only home, and all I did was Abandoned him once."
"If he is replaced by anyone who appears inexplicably, I will never allow this person to join the ranks of Hogwarts faculty."
Dumbledore paused, guilt aging his cheeks.
"Only in the face of him, I can't refuse, I can't abandon him again - so please forgive me for selfishly risking the safety of Hogwarts teachers and students. Peter, I invited you here to avoid this danger from happening .”
