Chapter 168 Zhang Jiuling (End)
Hu Yinglin spoke highly of Zhang Jiuling's poems, praising them as:
"The works of Qujiang contain clearness and elegance in the painting, and the spirit and beauty in the solemnity."

He also said that "Zhang Zishou was the first to create the Qingdan school", and it is very pertinent to think that he developed the poetic style of Meng Haoran, Wang Wei and others.

Zhang Jiuling's poems have achieved quite high achievements, and he has a unique charm of "elegance and integrity".

Jiu Ling is quick in thinking, elegant in writing and elegant in poetry. His "Gan Yu" and "Watching the Moon and Huaiyuan" are more famous poems that have been passed down through the ages, and there are [-] volumes of "Qu Jiang Ji".

In his early years, Zhang Jiuling's poems were clear and beautiful, with deep and gentle emotions. He was greatly appreciated by Zhang Shuo, a predecessor in the poetry circle. After he was demoted, his style became simple and vigorous.

Zhang Jiuling was one of the virtuous prime ministers in the Kaiyuan period, and the only prime minister in the Tang Dynasty who was born as a Lingnan scholar.

He is upright and gentle, with a very neat demeanor, and people at that time praised him as "Qujiang demeanor". Even after he was dismissed, if someone recommended a talent to Xuanzong, Xuanzong asked:

"Is he as graceful as Jiuling?"

At the end of the Kaiyuan period, Xuanzong was tired of governing, gradually indulged in pleasure, and alienated sages. Under the dangerous political situation where the villain was successful, Zhang Jiuling was able to guard the righteousness and jealousy, be upright and outspoken, and became the last Tang family who was loyal to the country and played a pivotal role before the Anshi Rebellion. Minister.

He had firmly rejected Concubine Wu Hui's bribe and shattered her plot to endanger the prince. He had also opposed the appointment of the treacherous Li Linfu and the cowardly Niu Xianke as chancellors.

He had a far-sighted vision, and once said that An Lushan "appears to be the opposite, and if you don't kill him, you will be troubled later", but Xuanzong didn't accept it.

Later, when there was chaos in Anshi, when Xuanzong entered Shu in a hurry, he recalled Jiu Ling's life words, and wept bitterly, but sent envoys to pay homage to the deceased.

There is also such a story among the people:
According to legend, Zhang Jiuling's mother, Lu Shi, had been pregnant for ten months in Shixing and had not yet given birth. His father saw that his wife's body was thick, yellow and weak, and he suspected that she had yellow swelling.

One day, I met an old man who saw a doctor and told a fortune. After the diagnosis, the old man told Zhang Jiuling's father:

"The fetus in the womb is an extraordinary person. Because this place is too small to accommodate it, it may have to be born in a big place."

After hearing what Mr. Zhang said, the Zhang family had to move to Shaozhou, and Zhang Jiuling was said to have been born there, but after Zhang Jiuling was born, he also returned to his hometown in Shixing.

The story of "catch the mouse and solve the imperial court" spread among the people in Shixing County comes from Zhang Jiuling's experience of studying in Shitoutang when he was young.

Zhang Jiuling was talented and intelligent since he was a child. He was able to recite poems and compose poems at the age of five or six. He was known as a child prodigy for a while.

In the spring when he was seven years old, Zhang Jiuling visited Baolin Temple with his family. Baolin Temple is a famous temple with prosperous incense, beautiful scenery and many tourists.

Zhang Jiuling was fascinated and watched it with great interest. He suddenly reported that the prefect of Shaozhou Prefecture led the officials of the state government to worship, and the pilgrims in front of the hall hurriedly avoided.

Zhang Jiuling hid the peach blossoms folded before entering the temple in his sleeves, and watched the eunuch's followers playing with the offerings nonchalantly, without any fear.

Seeing that Zhang Jiuling was lively, innocent and cute, the eunuch wanted to test his talent, so he asked:
"Do you want to eat the offering fruit? I will make a pair. If you match, I will give you the offering fruit."

Zhang Jiuling said confidently, "Okay."

The prefect had already seen the peach blossoms hidden in Jiu Ling's sleeves, so he wrote the first couplet "The white-faced scholar hides the spring in his sleeves". Zhang Jiuling replied: "The prefect of Huangtang has a clear mind."

The prefect thought that this child was really a child prodigy, and tried his meaning again, and a pair of "a boy, climbing a dragon, a phoenix, and a osmanthus" came out.

Zhang Jiuling suddenly raised his head, and was facing the three big Buddha statues in front of him. Touching the scene, he responded, "Three big Buddhas, sitting on a lion, sitting on an elephant and sitting on a lotus."

The prefect and his attendants were all amazed: this son will definitely not be an ordinary person in the future!

Zhang Jiuling took the fruit offering from the prefect to play in the back, but a monk saw him and thought he was eating the fruit. Zhang Jiuling said it was a gift from the prefect, but the monk didn't believe it:

"Why do you say that the prefect gave it to you?"

When Zhang Jiuling told the whole story, the monk was very surprised, so he asked Zhang Jiuling to tell the pair of the prefect. Zhang Jiuling read the prefect's Shanglian, and the monk asked again:
"Then how do you deal with it?"

Zhang Jiuling had an idea, and said that the second couplet that I was right was: "Monk Mansi, stealing pigs, dogs and vegetables."

As soon as the monk heard the second couplet, he was startled, so he chased the prefect to explain it clearly, but he was scolded, and the matter of Zhang Jiuling stealing the tribute fruit naturally came to light.

Zhang Jiuling lives in Baoanli County, and studied in Dajian Temple when he was a child. The ink he used was as long as a ruler, and the inkstone was as big as a soup basin.

Once, the ink inkstone was dragged away by a big mouse. Zhang Jiuling was very angry. He caught the mouse and nailed it to a wooden board, and wrote:
"Zhang Jiuling, if you can't solve the problem, the land of the mountain god will not be peaceful."

Then put the wooden plank in the river. It is strange to say that when the wooden plank hits the water, it does not go south with the current, but goes north with the current.

In an instant, I only heard the sound of gongs and drums in the river, and saw flags fluttering on the wooden boards, as if soldiers and horses were escorting rats to Beijing.

One year, there was a severe drought in Shaozhou, the fields were dry and cracked, and the seedlings withered. People went to Dajian Temple to pray for rain from morning till night. Zhang Jiuling felt very sad when he saw the tragedy.

"Can you ask for rain like this?"

The rainmaker said:

"If you ask for more, God will be moved."

After hearing this, Zhang Jiuling still said that God is unreliable. Seeing the child talking non-stop, the begging rainman said impatiently:

"If you have the ability, you can make some rain."

When Zhang Jiuling heard this, he put his inkstone on the ground quietly, held the ink in both hands and began to grind it. The rain-begging man was surprised and asked him what he was going to do. Zhang Jiuling said:

"I'm going to write a lawsuit against God."

Everyone thought that the child was angry and ignored it. Unexpectedly, the clear water in the inkstone became darker and darker as the water in the inkstone was worn away, and the sky became darker and darker. When a whole strip of ink was worn away, the sky was covered with dark clouds, thunder and lightning.

At this time, Zhang Jiuling suddenly picked up the inkstone and poured it into the sky, only to hear a splash, and the ink turned into a torrential rain and fell down.Everyone in the city ran out of their homes to enjoy the rain. From then on, Zhang Jiuling's name was deeply engraved in the hearts of the people in Qujiang.

Zhang Jiuling played chess well, so Tang Xuanzong often asked him to play chess. Tang Xuanzong was not Zhang Jiuling's opponent, but he always refused to admit defeat. He asked Zhang Jiuling to play chess with him every day, and he wanted to compare with Zhang Jiuling.

Seeing Tang Xuanzong obsessed with playing chess and ignoring state affairs, Zhang Jiuling felt anxious. When he played chess one day, when the fight was in full swing, Zhang Jiuling couldn't help but said to Tang Minghuang:

"Your Majesty, it's not good to play chess every day!"

"It doesn't matter!"

Tang Xuanzong replied, and at the same time brought the "car" to catch Zhang Jiuling's "horse".

Zhang Jiuling said again: "Your Majesty, if you keep playing chess like this, how can you care about the important affairs of the court?"

Tang Xuanzong ate Zhang Jiuling's "horse" and said, "It doesn't matter!"

"At present, the officials are corrupt and corrupt inside, and the foreign race invades the country outside. If the country is not rich and the army is strong, the country will be in trouble, and the people will find it difficult to live in peace."

"It doesn't matter, there are civil and military officials in the imperial court, so you can play chess!"
