Wasteland Development Diary

#20 - Various Knights

For the next two days, strong winds suddenly swept across the sky. Sandstorms raged from day to night, forcing everyone in the company to stay indoors, waiting for the extreme weather to subside.

Inside the container house, Cui Mao wore a bandage around his neck, supporting his right arm.

Unlike ordinary people, his schedule followed the traditional pattern of rising with the sun and resting at sunset.

Zhou Yi asked him, "Are all Tianjin Knights like this?"

He said no.

"Mr. Zhou, I belong to the outer defense group of the Third Squadron, so I operate during the day. I regularly visit the outskirts of the city to investigate and observe the latest movements of the Light-Na species, and to provide early warnings to the city to avoid sudden disasters. Besides that, I also receive some dangerous investigation missions... but depending on the actual situation, my schedule can be adjusted at any time."

Zhou Yi took the opportunity to bring up the key point: "Maogu Town is not under the jurisdiction of Shagang. You are employed by Shagang, so why are you here?"

"I received a tip from an informant saying that unidentified individuals were appearing in Maogu Town, bringing many monsters with them. They might use Maogu Town as a target for human thaumaturgical experiments. Shagang has experienced such public incidents before, causing many casualties, so I rushed over here as soon as I received the information."

As he spoke, Cui Mao frowned: "It seems that Ji Chang's people deliberately released false information, aiming to lure me here to probe your strength. They are very wary of you and want to drag the Third Squadron into the water to hold you back..."

Zhou Yi thought, it seems that this group is really anxious.

They must be at some critical juncture.

However, Cui Mao only knew this much. He only realized he had been tricked when he fought Zhou Yi.

Zhou Yi brought the topic back to the enhanced individuals he was interested in.

"Do Tianjin Knights and Dead Sea Knights operate in different areas? Or do they overlap?"

Speaking of his profession, Cui Mao became talkative.

"Mr. Zhou, the Knight Orders now have their own areas of focus. In fact, after at least 300 years of development, the differences between the Knight Orders are much greater than they appear."

"Take us Tianjin Knights as an example. Our base camp is 'Jincheng', which is the Tianjin Knights' own territory and jurisdiction. But externally, Tianjin Knights also accept some commissioned tasks, mainly town defense and maintaining order... Our Order has always had a good reputation and cooperates with many cities."

Listening to his description, Zhou Yi had a general understanding of the Tianjin Knights.

They were professional soldiers and police, who could be hired to protect cities and maintain social order within them. For a city, both groups were indispensable.

"But some Knight Orders are different."

Cui Mao said with a smile: "Like the Bounty Knights, their name is easy to understand. They specialize in taking on various bounty missions, including clearing out regional looters, expelling large raiding groups, and hunting dangerous monsters. In essence, they are bounty mercenaries."

"The Orbital Knights build and maintain many tracks, which allow them to travel quickly between cities. These tracks and orbital vehicles are their specialty. Their main business is cargo transportation and escort."

Zhou Yi was surprised to hear this.

Controlling the railways?

In this wasteland era with inconvenient transportation, the Orbital Knight Order's profits must be considerable.

"Then there are the Artificer Knights, who are skilled in manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining various devices and projects, and have a large team of thaumaturgists and craftsmen. They are often hired to plan and build things like city watchtowers, fortresses, drainage, irrigation, and sanitation projects. In addition, they also produce various equipment for sale."

Cui Mao took out the flintlock pistol from his waist, held the barrel, and handed the handle to Zhou Yi: "This is the 'Knight Firearm' made by the Artificer Knights."

Zhou Yi held the handle and looked around.

It was almost identical to the pistol seized from Yang Si, both with a Y-shaped mark, but the number on this one was 8029, and the wooden handle was very smooth.

"Ordinary craftsman workshops can also polish and make firearms, and even the appearance looks the same. However, the core technology of the Knight Firearm is inside, where it can use special bullets."

Cui Mao pointed to the muzzle: "There is a special structure inside that can fire ordinary lead bullets with gunpowder, and also use some enhanced bullets that can achieve armor-piercing, paralysis, stunning, poisoning, and other effects."

"Very few bullets can even come with some skills, which can instantly create powerful destructive power. But the more powerful the bullet, the more advanced the firearm needs to be to withstand the high-intensity burst of power."

"Is this a counterfeit-proof number?" Zhou Yi pointed to the Y-shape and asked him.

"Yes. It is mainly used to track the trajectory of the Knight Firearm. The Artificer Knights only sell these weapons to enhanced groups and basically do not retail them. Each gun and each box of bullets will record the buyer to avoid abuse and reduce the pressure and risk on the Artificer Knights themselves."

Zhou Yi understood.

That's how the Dream Trap bullet that summons shadow monsters works.

Next, Cui Mao talked about the Dead Sea Knights.

"The Dead Sea Knights operate in another direction. They appear on the surface of the Dead Sea, cooperate with some powerful Light-Na species, and control a large number of sea vehicles, using the Dead Sea as their main area of activity. They infiltrate and salvage some relics and creations under the Dead Sea, and sell some of the obtained oddities and creations, including Dead Sea Scrolls and Dead Sea Vintage."

"Their strength is very strong. Relying on ships, they can quickly reach many cities, and all parties are unwilling to offend them."

Zhou Yi thought that was true.

The Dead Sea Knights controlled the sea power.

Ji Chang had their backing, no wonder the Tianjin Knights had to investigate carefully.

"In addition, there is another Knight Order that cannot be ignored."

Cui Mao added: "The Mount Tai Knight Order."

"Unlike other Knight Orders, they can communicate with the dead, enter and exit the Netherworld, travel between time, and are said to be able to briefly travel to the Age of Gods, and even resurrect the dead. The Mount Tai Knights are also the most mysterious Knight Order..."

Zhou Yi really didn't expect this.

The previous Knight Orders were easy to understand.

Why is the style of this Mount Tai Knight Order completely different?

Enter and exit the Netherworld?

Resurrect the dead?

Travel to the Age of Gods?

Travel through time?

Zhou Yi became very interested in this Knight Order.

If there is a chance, I have to find a way to contact the Mount Tai Knights.

If it is a marketing group that pretends to be a ghost, then so be it.

But if it is true, maybe I can find clues to the destruction of the pre-human civilization.

Various thoughts flashed through Zhou Yi's mind.

Just as he was about to ask about the Mount Tai Knight Order, the voice of the Red Falcon sounded in his head again.

"Alert, alert."

"Iron Horse was attacked outside Mushroom Forest, with more than 30 enemies, including 4 enhanced individuals."

Zhou Yi was furious.

It was not easy to invite agricultural experts to farm, and they were attacked by you rabble as soon as they came.

The local gangs are too impolite!

Grab the guys!

At his order, a large number of Samurai Crabs emerged from the Dead Sea in formation, holding various weapons, and marched towards the front line to support.
