Warlord: King of All Clans

Chapter 254 Evacuation

The small orc clan near the town of Melesi is just a marginal force of the orc army heading south.

They can't even be called a "troop". They can only be described as a group of civilian laborers roaming around the main army.

Because the hunting capabilities of the small orc clans are insufficient, the food harvested by the clan hunting and gathering teams can only meet their own needs. They are mainly responsible for providing resources such as wood and ore.

But the fact that such a small clan was able to emerge from the depths of the northern snowfields shows that they also have a keen intuition about facing a survival crisis.

As several small clans in remote locations were wiped out by the Isenbol Legion, the remaining orc clans realized something was wrong and quickly gathered together to deal with the threat.

An orc settlement of nearly 3,000 people quickly formed, competing against the human forces in the town of Melesi.

After several big wins, Isenbol's corner flags were in high spirits and spoke enthusiastically at the council meeting in the Melesi Town Hall.

Many people suggested launching a final battle with this orc army to determine both victory and defeat, as well as life and death.

Leo rolled his eyes when he heard this. Don’t you know how you won the previous battles?

When did we not rely on numbers and long-range firepower to crush the enemy?

For the largest battle, Leo assembled a total of 1,500 men, 500 of whom were the most elite archers of the Isenbol Legion.

Relying on a shield formation of one thousand people to withstand the opponent's attack, and suppressing the firepower of five hundred archers, they successfully defeated an orc clan of nine hundred people.

Even so, in the brief close combat, more than one hundred people were killed or wounded, completely losing their combat effectiveness, and nearly two hundred people suffered minor or serious injuries that could be recovered.

Several of the most elite Hewan infantrymen also died.

The current situation is that the number of orc clans is increasing, and even small troll clans are beginning to join.

The trolls' body shape is different from that of the orcs who have thick and clumsy limbs. Their arms hang naturally and can touch their knees. Their muscle strength is far superior to that of humans. They are all natural archers.

Although the trolls' backward culture and the fact that their main prey are giant beasts in the snowfields result in underdeveloped archery technology, their spears are extremely terrifying.

The strongest of them, the Troll Headhunter, is simply a human crossbow. The javelin it throws has a range no shorter than the barbarians' longbows and is twice as powerful.

Even the mammoths and woolly rhinos on the snowfields could not withstand the javelins of the troll headhunters, let alone the human infantry.

The strength of the Isenbol Legion was reduced to 2,500 men, and the long-range projection troops, which were the main means of output, were in urgent need of replenishment of bows, crossbows and arrows.

It seems that the scale and intensity of the war are increasing, making the corner flaggers feel more and more involved in the war, and thus gradually become fanatical.

But when Leo looked at the entire war situation in the North, they were actually still at the stage where the human militia and the orc laborers were fighting each other with hoes.

As long as a regular army shows up, their local armed forces will be defeated in one wave.

Listening to the corner flags making their heroic declarations, a picture suddenly flashed in Leo's mind.

He seemed to have turned into a giant eagle soaring in the sky, with the endless wilderness of the Wolf-Driving Plain beneath his feet.

As his pupils contracted to the extreme, the distant view of the ground quickly enlarged.

In the mountains and fields below, countless wolves carried strong orc warriors over mountains and across ridges, heading south.

As his vision shifted, it finally landed on the small town in the south where smoke was rising from chimneys.

It’s the small town of Melissa!

Leo reacted immediately and shouted in surprise: "Master Bobak!!"

In the back of his mind came Master Bobak's brief reply: "Go."

Leo's eyes were instantly filled with tears. Although Master Bobak was very busy and cold, he still loved me!

He is following me!

Leo suddenly felt safe, but at the same time he acted decisively and immediately pulled the legion commander Arnold aside.

Leo said solemnly: "We should withdraw."

Army Commander Arnold was surprised. "Retreat?"

Why should we retreat when the battle situation is one-sided?

The orc clan has gathered three thousand people, and they are also three thousand big fools.

Even if they cannot win in a field battle, they will have no problem defending the town of Melesi.

The human race and the beastman race have been fighting for a long time. Any veteran with a little common sense knows that if they build strong defenses and clear the fields, they can keep the enemy out of the city and the enemy will collapse on its own.

Three thousand orcs may seem like a lot, but their logistical base is zero, and half of the population needs to go out to get food—and this half is the main force that has the ability to hunt in the wild.

Originally they were scattered all over the place and could not get enough food, and now that they are gathered together, logistical supplies are even more difficult.

If the situation drags on for just a month or two, the orcs will be so hungry that they will attack on their own or even collapse on their own.

Just by relying on the ancestral strategy of procrastination, the Isenbol Legion can win a great victory.

Although Corps Commander Arnold was not as overconfident as the young corner flag players, he was also full of confidence in the upcoming battle.

If we evacuate in such a hasty manner, people will laugh at us and the entire Isenbol will be infamous forever.

He could only show a trace of impatience and retorted: "We are ordered to garrison Melesi, how can we evacuate in a hurry?"

Leo could only reveal, "My scouts sent me news that there are traces of wolf cavalry in the north."

Arnold was startled and began to hesitate. "Wolf cavalry? How is that possible? Then we have to retreat..."

The Wolf Riders are the orcs' scout troop and their strongest mobile force. They would not bypass Frovald for no reason and appear in the north of the town of Melesi.

"But what about the military orders?"

Leo pointed to his desk and said, "You might as well take it out and have a look at it again."

Of course Arnold didn't need to search any further and immediately understood what Leo meant.

The Grand Duke of the North has issued an order: Order the Isenbol Legion to go to the small town of Melesi to carry out a clearing mission.

It's just a clearing, not garrisoning!

Leo gave a final explanation: "We have wiped out two thousand orcs in the town of Melesi and collected enough spoils. Now we are patrolling along the road back to Frovald, and by the way, we are turning in our military merits and getting supplies. Is that okay?"

Legion Commander Arnold no longer hesitated. He waved his hand, asked the corner flags below to be quiet, and began to assign evacuation tasks.

The legion commander still has a lot of say, and the corner flags have to carry out his orders even though they complain.

The biggest troublemaker, Rio Mundo, was the advocate of evacuation.

After several battles, his command ability was recognized. At least two-thirds of the corner flags had eaten meat and drank soup under his flag and were very obedient to his orders.

As long as Leo did not openly disobey the orders of Legion Commander Arnold, they would not risk being hung on the flagpole to refute Leo's decision.

Not only did the Isenbol Legion withdraw itself, it also took away hundreds of natives and all supplies, leaving behind only an empty town.
