Under the Red Dragon
#165 - Awareness Instillation
Within Dragon Nest Canyon, a forbidden area of the dragon territory, lies not only the largest treasure trove but also the most extensive experimental complex.
These experimental complexes house not only some laboratories exclusively belonging to Calon but also half that belong to other scholars and mages loyal to the dragon clan within the territory.
Some particularly important and strictly confidential experiments are conducted here, as well as projects outside the jurisdiction of the Magic Integration Department, such as the 'Kings of Knowledge' series of experiments.
In a spacious laboratory, two scholars and several apprentices surrounded a bound human.
This human was a prisoner, his limbs restrained on a bed-like instrument, revealing traces of shackles. His eyes were wide with terror, and he was breathing rapidly as he watched an apprentice approach him with a syringe-like instrument. Unfortunately, the stinky sock-like cloth stuffed in his mouth made it difficult for him to make a sound.
The highly skilled apprentice injected the bright red liquid from the transparent tube into the prisoner's vein, then stepped back, leaving space for the two scholars who crowded forward.
The two scholar-mages watched the prisoner's reaction, occasionally glancing at the timing device.
"Ugh," the prisoner initially showed no reaction, but after a while, he became agitated, struggling constantly. The veins on his body bulged, and his originally terrified eyes became somewhat intimidating.
His skin seemed to have earthworms crawling all over it, and his originally thin body visibly became fuller.
The shackles binding the prisoner's limbs were also strained, creaking loudly. However, these experimental tools were specially made, and even if the prisoner possessed the strength of a young dragon, he could not break free, especially since the prisoner's strength had not been amplified to such a terrifying extent.
"Red Blood Potion, administered via injection, takes effect in about fifteen minutes, twice as fast as oral administration," the observing scholar-mage said, not to himself, but to have the apprentice record the experimental information.
The slender scholar did not seem afraid of the increasingly violent prisoner. Instead, he pinched the prisoner's skin and bones, used instruments to probe, and occasionally used small spells for measurement and reconnaissance.
"Skin flexibility increased by a factor of two, bone hardness increased and still changing, muscle strength increased by a factor of two, healing ability increased by a factor of five, reaction speed increased by nearly a factor of one, overall physique greatly altered," another scholar said, lifting the prisoner's eyelid and giving his conclusions after a series of tests.
"The life changes have not yet stabilized, but currently, it appears to increase lifespan by about two to five years," the previous scholar said faintly, observing the blood re-extracted from the prisoner in an instrument.
"Ptooey," just then, the prisoner spat out the cloth from his mouth with a tongue that had become more flexible and powerful. He opened his mouth and shouted, "Damn it, you sons of bitches, how dare you use me...呜呜呜,"
An apprentice swiftly stuffed the cloth back into the prisoner's mouth, while the scholar-mage calmly said, "Record that when the Red Blood Potion is administered via injection, the temperament becomes particularly violent!"
After a series of observations and tests, one of the scholars compared the data with previous experimental data and came to a conclusion.
"Compared to oral administration, direct injection of the Red Blood Potion yields greater benefits. The only drawback is that the personality becomes more violent than before, while oral administration achieves gradual changes through digestion, making drastic personality changes less likely."
The scholar leading the experiment nodded and instructed one of the apprentices, "Take this guy down and bring another one over. We want to try the effects of direct injection into the heart."
This apprentice was a simple-looking young man. He asked his teacher in confusion, "Isn't there little difference between injecting directly into the body and injecting into the heart? Why waste time and resources on unnecessary attempts?"
The scholar-mage glared sternly at this usually obedient apprentice and said solemnly, "The first principle of a scholar's research is rigor. Do not let go of any possibility, strive for the optimal solution. Copy this sentence a thousand times after you return."
"Also, tell Lord Germot that the number of people needed for experiments will soon be insufficient. We still have Green Blood, Blue Blood, and Black Blood that have not been tested. Have Lord Germot send the experimental materials over as soon as possible."
……
"Dad, why are you in such a hurry to contact that big guy? Does that big guy owe you gold coins? When I learn these things, I will help you get them back!"
World Tree Owo was very cheerful during his rest time. Apart from Calon, this guy only wanted to communicate with the two Titan pythons that lived on him. This kind of pride, it's hard to say it wasn't inherited from Calon.
Calon shook his head, his thick and long dragon horns like legendary divine swords, radiating a shimmering light.
"Do you think I am strong enough, Owo?"
"Very powerful, Dad. You are almost stronger than a branch of that big guy. Although that big guy can't move, it is very powerful!"
World Tree Owo replied cheerfully. The young World Tree did not look down on the red dragon because of this. He was born because of the red dragon and was naturally very close to Calon, so he was also speaking from the heart.
Calon could only show his smile. He did not ask how many branches that big guy had, but said gently, "But I am not strong enough, Owo,"

"There can only be two kinds of existence in the world, not the hunter, but the prey. And I want to be the hunter who is always hunting others, not becoming someone else's prey, or a puppet controlled and influenced by others,"
Calon's tone was extremely firm, causing World Tree Owo to quiet down and carefully listen to his dad's unconscious will and consciousness instillation.
"You need to master digesting these knowledge as soon as possible. I will soon enter a deep sleep. When I wake up from my deep sleep, it will be the moment I truly embark on the path of hunting,"
"At that time, Owo, promise me that you can bypass the limitations of that big guy and find the world I need on your own!"
"I will try hard, Dad. I will help you, Owo promises!" The World Tree's consciousness cheered for being needed.
Calon patted the World Tree's body and looked towards the distant sky, where the big guy, the World Tree cultivated by ancient mages, was located.
