Movement speed is also a very interesting attribute for monsters in tower defense games, and a lot can be done around this attribute.
In *Kingdom Rush*, different types of monsters have different movement speeds.
Normal monsters have normal movement speeds, such as goblins and orcs.
Some monsters have fast movement speeds, but correspondingly low health and low damage, such as dire wolves. The best way to deal with this type of monster is to use soldiers to block them, and then the defense towers can easily kill them.
Some monsters have slow movement speeds, but are very tough or have high damage, making it difficult for soldiers to block them. In this case, high-output, high-burst defense towers are needed.
Bounty is the gold coin reward for killing monsters, and it is also a necessary resource for players to upgrade their defense towers.
In *Kingdom Rush*, in addition to killing monsters, there is also a method where risk and reward coexist, which can not only obtain gold coins but also shorten skill cooldown time, and that is to start the next wave of monster attacks early.
This is also a design made to enhance the immediacy of the game.
For example, if your defense tower firepower is insufficient, starting the next wave of monsters early and using the extra gold coins obtained to upgrade the defense tower to increase output may just solve the predicament. But it is also possible that two waves of monsters attack together, and the player misses even more monsters, falling into an even worse situation than before.
The pros and cons of this need to be weighed by the player, but this design undoubtedly makes the game's strategy richer.
The damage to the base also varies depending on the monster. In the normal mode of *Kingdom Rush*, the base has 20 health points. Basic monsters such as goblins deduct 1 point of health when they enter the base. More powerful monsters, such as high-output butchers, deduct 3 points of health.
In some levels, there are bosses. The boss's damage to the base is 20, which can deduct all the base's health in one hit—that is to say, in other levels, you can pass even if you leak a few monsters as long as you don't die, but to pass the boss level, the boss must die.
The monsters' skills, or abilities, are key to greatly increasing the game's playability.
For example, the gargoyle's ability is flight. Soldiers cannot intercept aerial units, and cannons cannot attack the sky.
If players know that gargoyles will appear, they must consider its flight characteristics when arranging the defense system to make targeted arrangements.
For example, the giant spider's ability is to lay eggs. It lays eggs every certain distance it travels. If you don't destroy these eggs, small spiders will hatch after a while.
Although the small spiders have low health, they have a very fast movement speed. If the defense system is not comprehensive, they may escape the defense tower's firepower network and cause damage to the base.
For example, the troll chieftain's ability is bloodlust, which can apply a buff to surrounding monsters, increasing their movement speed, damage, and armor. Players must consider prioritizing killing it.
In addition to the diverse skills and variety of monsters, *Kingdom Rush* also has four main types of defense towers: arrow towers, magic towers, cannon towers, and barracks towers.
Each type of defense tower has three basic forms. From the fourth level, you can choose an advanced route, with unique skills in addition to the basic attack.
The arrow tower is characterized by amazing attack speed and ultra-long attack range. It is also the cheapest to build, but it lacks explosive output and is weak against high-armor enemies and monster groups.
The magic tower is characterized by high burst damage, which can cause heavy damage to high-armor enemies. The main disadvantage is that the attack speed is slow, and it is not good at dealing with fast-moving monsters like dire wolves and monster groups.
The cannon tower can cause area damage, has very high output, and is good at dealing with groups of enemies, but the attack speed is very slow, it cannot attack aerial enemies, and the upgrade cost is expensive.
After the barracks tower is built, three soldiers will appear, who can be moved within the barracks range to block enemies on the route. Each level up increases the soldiers' armor, health, and attack power.
Different defense towers have their own characteristics, and the advantages and disadvantages are obvious. Players need to make reasonable combinations to deal with various monsters.
Talents are also an important part of *Kingdom Rush*.
The game's levels are divided into three modes: campaign, heroic, and iron.
The campaign mode will award up to three stars based on the remaining health when clearing the level.
Heroic and iron modes are more challenging, with only 1 point of base health. Clearing them will give 1 star.
These stars can be used to upgrade talents. There are six talents, corresponding to the four major types of defense towers, as well as two skills: meteor and reinforcements.
For example, the arrow tower's talents:
Salvage: Get 90% of the value when selling an arrow tower. [Cost: 1 star]
Eagle Eye: Increases the attack range of sharpshooters. [Cost: 1 star]
Piercing Shot: Sharp arrows ignore part of the enemy's physical armor. [Cost: 2 stars]
Ranged Shot: Increases the range of archers. [Cost: 2 stars]
Lethal Arrow: Archers have a chance to deal double damage. [Cost: 3 stars]
The reinforcements' talents:
Well Fed: Well-fed farmers have extra health and deal slightly increased damage. [Cost: 2 stars]
Enlisted Soldiers: Enlisted soldiers have higher health and better equipment. [Cost: 3 stars]
Warriors: Warriors have higher vitality and better weapons. [Cost: 3 stars]
Legion Soldiers: Legion soldiers have the highest vitality and wear the best equipment. [Cost: 3 stars]
Spear Throw: Gives legion soldiers the means to attack with spear throws, able to attack ground and flying enemies. [Cost: 4 stars]
These talents must start from the most basic and be upgraded layer by layer. The more stars invested, the stronger the talent gained.
When a series of talents is maxed out, there is a huge improvement to the corresponding defense tower or skill.
So when players are stuck on a level, they can try to concentrate the stars on one or two series of talents and focus on using the amplified defense towers in the level.
*Kingdom Rush* has a lot of content. Wang Jian spent an hour explaining the game's framework, and everyone had a basic understanding of the game.
