#366 - Unfair people appear out of nowhere
In the following week, Wang Jian assigned more tasks to his employees, further refining the art of Little Heroes and the map, as well as conducting bug tests. Feeling satisfied that there were no significant issues, he released the game online.
“Have you heard? League of Legends has released a new mode.”
“I feel like ARAM and URF are the most fun casual modes. I'm not really interested in new modes anyway.”
“This one is different from the previous ones. It turns the heroes into chess pieces, and you play chess with them.”
“There's even a special name for it: Teamfight Tactics.”
Players discussed animatedly.
At first, everyone thought this new mode wasn't much different from the previous ones, but they quickly discovered that playing chess was even more fun than League, or rather, they were completely different games with fundamentally different kinds of fun!
Teamfight Tactics requires almost no mechanical skill, and the competition isn't as intense as in League. It mainly requires using your brain to combine synergies and manage your economy, with a bit of gambling thrown in, which is the most captivating part.
No one can resist the joy of opening boxes, because you never know what you're going to get.
Moreover, the atmosphere in Teamfight Tactics is much better.
There are many toxic players in League of Legends. If you play poorly, some teammates will flame you relentlessly, saying things like, “You play so badly, you must be an elementary school student. Go home and do your homework and stop ruining the game!” “Why are you such a coward as a support, always standing behind me, the ADC? Are you a girl?” If the enemy kills you, they might even flash their mastery emote and dance to taunt you. Players with weak mental fortitude can easily become depressed, frustrated, and extremely irritable from these setbacks.
Players in the Zaun region are especially friendly. It's said that if you're bad at the game and practice there for three months, your typing speed will improve dramatically.
But that won't happen in Teamfight Tactics. Even if you don't understand the game and lose, no one will mock you. In fact, other players hope to run into noobs. If you're lucky and your draws are smooth, combining several three-star units and getting the key synergies to win, the joy is overwhelming.
Players flocked to Teamfight Tactics, and some League of Legends streamers, after trying the new mode, became addicted and couldn't stop.
Some League streamers sensed the enormous potential of auto-chess and even decisively switched their streaming focus to playing chess!
For a time, auto-chess became the most popular and hottest category on all the major streaming platforms, dominating the scene!
Gui Chao, originally a streamer extremely skilled at playing the champion Renekton, was known as the “Best Renekton in China.” Because of his strong ability to jinx himself, he was also nicknamed “Ghostmilk” based on his game ID “Ghostlike.”
After streaming Teamfight Tactics, he gained a new nickname: “Teamfight Tactics Immortal”!
As soon as Gui Chao's stream went live, many players flooded in!
“He's here, he's here!”
“Brothers, come quickly to learn techniques!”
“Today I played against a Void Sorcerer comp with my Four Brawlers Six Sorcerers. He was missing a spatula for six sorcerers only had five. My one-star Karthus blew him up, and I won. So happy.”
“I lost 20 LP after playing all morning. At least four people are playing Sorcerers! How am I supposed to play Sorcerers???”
“I gambled on Gunslingers all day. Haha, not a single Gunslinger player. I kept gambling until I went bankrupt and still didn't get a three-star!”
“Alas, gamblers end up with nothing. I swear I'll never gamble again.”
“I came to learn magic, but why are my Pirates just fish bones, while other people's Pirates are One Piece, constantly generating gold?”
While Gui Chao was queuing for a match, players exchanged news about their battles. Those who won were beaming with joy and triumph, while those who were unlucky bitterly complained, especially the Gunslinger gamblers, who felt a sense of camaraderie.
Gunslingers are a popular composition in this version of Teamfight Tactics, with high burst damage, sufficient output, and great strength when fully formed.
The so-called gambling on Gunslingers involves saving as much money as possible in the early game, not leveling up, and then rolling down all your gold to get the core Gunslinger Tristana to three stars. The other Gunslingers, such as Lucian and Graves, are also good to get as many as possible.
Because Tristana is a 1-cost unit, the probability of 1-cost units appearing drops from 55% to 40% after going from level 4 to level 5. Therefore, the key time to roll is before level 5. If you can get a three-star in this wave, then gambling on Gunslingers is considered successful, and you'll likely win the game.
In reality, this composition heavily relies on luck. Failing to get the units is the most common outcome, in which case you can only end up in seventh or eighth place. Therefore, it is a composition that consistently loses LP.
Even though players know it's a trap, they still jump in, experiencing both pain and joy, because gambling on Gunslingers is fun, and always gambling on Gunslingers is always fun!
A viewer said, “Chao, gamble on Gunslingers this game! I want to see you gamble on Gunslingers!”
Gui Chao had already found a match and was loading into the game.
Seeing someone ask him to gamble on Gunslingers, he replied helplessly, “Oh, don't always think about gambling on Gunslingers. I'm telling you, that's unstable. Void Brawlers is the strongest right now! Cho'Gath's quality in this version is equivalent to a 5-cost unit. Mainly because its synergy is too strong!”
Void Brawlers is another popular composition in the version. The Void synergy allows heroes to deal true damage with their basic attacks and abilities, while the Brawler synergy increases their tankiness, making them able to deal damage and withstand hits.
The core of the Void Brawlers team is Cho'Gath. His ability has a huge range, knocking up and controlling enemies while dealing true damage from the Void synergy. If you give him a Morellonomicon and a Sorcerer's Emblem, you're basically guaranteed to win, so several players in each game fight over it.
However, the unit pool in Teamfight Tactics is shared. There are a total of 39 1-cost units, 26 2-cost units, 21 3-cost units, 13 4-cost units, and 10 5-cost units.
For example, Cho'Gath is a 4-cost unit, so there are only 13 of him in total. If someone takes one, there is one less in the pool. If someone has 13, then you can refresh the shop hundreds of times and still not see a single Cho'Gath.
Therefore, when several players are playing the same composition and want to get the same units, the difficulty of getting the desired units greatly increases. It all depends on who is luckier.
If you're unlucky and everyone's draws are bad, with you getting two of this and me getting two of that, and no one can complete their units, then everyone will lose together.
To play Teamfight Tactics well, you not only have to look at your own composition, but also learn to observe others and try not to have multiple compositions overlapping.
The carousel began.
Units were refreshed one by one, with a golden circle blocking them, giving players some time to observe and think.
Having been released for so long, players were no longer clueless noobs. They controlled their Little Legends to run around outside the golden circle, looking for their desired heroes and items to seize the first opportunity.
Gui Chao immediately set his sights on a Tear of the Goddess Ahri. Ahri is a Sorcerer, so if he could get it, he could consider going for the Void Brawlers composition.
However, the Tear of the Goddess Ahri was too desirable, and four Little Legends were crowded together, trying to grab the Ahri.
Gui Chao's position wasn't the best, and he didn't get it. Looking at the remaining Rek'Sai, Lucian, and Lulu, he thought for half a second and made a decision, heading towards the Belt Lucian: “I'll take the Belt. At least Belt Lucian can do something.”
The Belt can be combined into a Red Buff or a Morellonomicon. If he goes for Gunslingers next, he can directly give the Red Buff to Lucian, so he doesn't have to sell him. If he goes for Void Brawlers, the Morellonomicon is also a key item.
