The Witcher: Elemental Lords
#165 - Pretend
A gentle force emanated from the pendant around Dole's neck, activating before the shockwave hit. The explosion crashed against him, the gentle force cushioning the impact, and he was thrown backward.
He flew a dozen meters through the air.
While still airborne, a Magic Hand formed with incredible speed, its five fingers spreading to encompass him.
Boom.
He crashed into a rock, sending fragments flying, before falling to the ground.
Dole was in a sorry state. He abruptly raised his head and looked forward, only to find the bat-monster had vanished.
Those two Fireball spells would definitely give it a hard time.
He turned to leave.
Just then, two figures came rushing up the path from the foot of the mountain, "Lecturer Dole, hang in there!"
"We're here to save you!"
Dole glanced back and saw two unfamiliar wizards, both extremely powerful, both at the Second Rank.
He frowned and stood his ground, waiting.
The two arrived near Dole and feigned looking around. Though many bats still lingered in the darkness, the aura of the large bat had receded, clearly indicating that the two Fireballs had directly and severely injured it.
The two approached, appearing very relaxed.
Seeing this, Dole was somewhat speechless.
"Greetings, esteemed 'seniors'."
These two were both instructors at the academy. One was called Voz, and the other Wallace, both nobles with immense power. However, their acting was clumsy. Dole immediately realized that they had probably been there for a long time, watching the show. His face darkened, and he was furious, resolving not to sell them Fourth Rank potions in the future.
...
The news of a large number of bats, even a First Rank magical beast, appearing in Blackhole Valley quickly spread throughout the academy. The attack on the Advanced Potion class led by Dole was also quickly known, but fortunately, only a few people were scratched and contracted some bat-specific viruses, with no casualties.
At the same time, Sano and Morris's reputations quickly spread, their appearance as formal wizards protecting most of the potion class members.
Dole, on the other hand, who had single-handedly stopped a First Rank magical beast, was not mentioned much, and the academy deliberately suppressed the matter, designating the Blackhole Valley's black hole as a task for the extraordinary students to conquer.
Back at the academy, others took care of those matters. He leisurely returned to his magic tower, contemplating his shortcomings as he walked.
Using Magic Hand as a defensive measure was something he had seen in Narlie's books. This spell was extremely versatile, with many uses besides grabbing things and shaping alchemical forms.
He was proficient in both Magic Missile and Fireball, but they were not very effective against highly mobile creatures like bats. He pondered for a moment, realizing there seemed to be no other way besides luring them into an attack.
Among the spells, the fastest to cast were lightning-based spells, but he had not ventured into those.
Lightning magic was the most powerful magic besides fire magic, bar none, but the spell models were extremely difficult, and inherently dangerous, so few people used it unless they were exceptionally talented.
He only snapped out of his thoughts when he reached the front of Ramu Tower, preparing to ascend.
At this moment, a young man's voice rang out nearby, "Lecturer Dole, our boss wants to see you."
Dole turned to look, his eyes narrowing. It was a Second Rank warrior in ornate half-armor, bearing the insignia of what looked like the Voz family?
What trick was that old woman Nico playing now?
He ignored the man and went straight upstairs.
The warrior was stunned, his gaze turning blank. "He actually ignored me? He actually ignored an invitation from the Voz family?"
Ten minutes later, in a luxurious single dormitory, a young man with golden hair stood in the middle of the courtyard, holding a broadsword in his hand. Dou Qi swirled around the blade, emitting an incredibly intense flame aura. The aura flickered and soon extended to over a meter long, the powerful energy fluctuations stirring a slight breeze that spread in all directions.
The young man looked at the sword, his forehead covered in sweat, seemingly dissatisfied with himself.
This form of sword aura was the most unstable, indicating that his control was too weak.
At this moment, a knock came from outside the courtyard. He glanced at the door, withdrew the Dou Qi from his sword, and said softly, "Come in."
The person who entered was none other than the warrior.
Five minutes later, the young man's expression changed slightly. "You're saying he completely ignored you? Guess what the reason is?"
The warrior immediately looked embarrassed and said, "Please forgive me for not daring to speculate."
The young man chuckled, "My aunt and another vice-principal have been trying to force him to take sides by cutting off his potion ingredients. So far, this person hasn't yielded and is still doing quite well. What do you think? Even Morris is easier to buy off."
He thought for a moment and said, "Go tell him this: I personally want to buy some Activating Energy Potions, and we'll provide the materials ourselves, with a 20% premium over the market price."
The warrior was stunned and said, "Young master, are you giving money away to someone else?"
The young man's lips curled slightly. "You don't understand, do you? I suspect that guy has already started making Fourth Rank potions. Building a relationship now might mean I'll get a share in the future. Do you understand? Our Voz City only has two Fourth Rank potion masters and one Fifth Rank potion master in total. Each person's output is limited. Every newly promoted Fourth Rank potion master is worth befriending."
The warrior was silent. He knew his young master's personality, so he nodded and said, "I'll go do that."
The young man was Sia Voz, the strongest of the younger generation in the Voz family.
...
The Blackhole Valley incident caused a great stir. Not long after Dole returned, Sano came to find him, saying that a large number of warriors and wizards were heading towards Blackhole Valley, attempting to eliminate the bat swarm. Such a large-scale number had severely impacted the academy's security.
Sano had reached the pinnacle of his life. After reaching the Third Rank, he had a constant stream of resources, and with the support of his family, he lived even better than Dole.
With a wide network of contacts, he naturally had a wide range of information.
Hearing this news, Dole simply shook his head, only asking him to refine some medicines or have the students refine them, as those who returned might need detoxification from bat venom.
A qualified potion master doesn't give up any opportunity to use medicine, because that's all gold coins.
Chasing Sano away, he wanted to start researching Fourth Rank potions.
Before he could even begin, Morris came knocking on the door again.
Dole frowned, opened the door, and saw the guy holding an alchemy table that was even larger than his entire torso, standing at the door with a smile.
"Selling it to you."
Dole was a little surprised. He looked closely at the alchemy table. There were no signs of use, and all the magic patterns hadn't been activated. It was new.
"Where did you get it?"
Morris's eyebrows twitched. "Lecturer, won't you invite me in to sit down?"
Dole stepped aside.
After Morris walked in, he said casually, "Some people have only blocked your channels, not mine. It can be bought at auctions. Lecturer Dole, you should use all the channels you can, instead of relying on yourself. This is something we nobles need to learn from a young age."
He said meaningfully.
