The Witcher: Elemental Lords

#154 - Factional struggle

Gudus muttered inwardly, thinking apothecaries really knew how to swindle money. Unfortunately, he still hadn't made any progress and couldn't even concoct a Level 1 potion. Dorai said his control was too poor and he needed to study that aspect, but it was just too difficult.

Lamb gave a sound of agreement and asked, "What are Sano's conditions?"

Gudus chuckled. "To become his apprentice."

"He's quite clever."

The academy became lively. After a month of silence, it was bustling with noise. Even the relatively quiet wizard towers were livelier. With a new semester starting, everyone was vying for the available spots in the new magic towers.

The area outside Lamb's magic tower was no exception, but Lamb himself didn't concern himself with these matters, leaving them to his disciples like Gudus. Therefore, Gudus had high standards.

Lamb had five students, with Gudus being the youngest. Two had already graduated, and the other two had returned to the academy before the start of the semester. They were currently in the tower, handling these matters.

These two were named Neva and Katyusha.

Neva was also a commoner. Among Vice-Dean Lamb's disciples, only Katyusha was a noble, belonging to the Tracy family, one of the three major families in Waltz City.

Her father had some connection with Lamb and had helped him in the past.

Dorai rested for two days. Three days before the start of the semester, Vice-Dean Nicholas summoned him.

The four vice-deans each had their own magic tower, named after themselves.

In Nicholas Tower, on the top floor, Nicholas, dressed in a tailcoat like a gentleman, stood at the window, looking outside.

Dorai walked in and looked at the dean's back. Besides him, there were two other people in the room. Their auras were powerful, both being Transcendent-level wizards, with one being a Level 2 wizard.

Dorai's heart skipped a beat. These were the senior instructors Luo Qiu and Fiss who would be working with him. He bowed slightly to them, performing a mage's salute. Recently, he hadn't only been concocting potions; he had also crammed some mage knowledge.

Seeing Dorai for the first time, Luo Qiu and Fiss were expressionless and returned the salute slightly.

Nicholas turned around and came to the three of them, smiling faintly. "You three will be the senior instructors. Here are your respective lists. Take a look and feel free to screen out anyone you don't like."

Nicholas was in charge of teaching, and screening students was an academy regulation, a right they possessed.

The three of them looked at the paper together.

Dorai took the paper and glanced at everyone.

Among the three senior apothecary courses, his was the cheapest, so the list had a large number of people, a full fifty-something. At one gold coin per class, with two classes a week, the amount was actually quite considerable.

Apothecaries also had outdoor courses, identifying herbs, quickly recognizing herbs, and on-the-spot detoxification, so generally no one would take too many students.

Dorai glanced at it, took out a pen from his pocket, and quickly crossed out many names.

Seeing Dorai crossing out names, Luo Qiu and Fiss were a little surprised. Who would嫌钱多?

Nicholas was also a little surprised, but when he saw the names Dorai crossed out, he immediately understood.

All those crossed out were nobles! The remaining ones were all commoners.

Neither of them crossed out any names. They wished all the names Dorai crossed out would come to their courses.

After finishing, Dorai handed the paper to Nicholas, which now only had twenty people left.

Luo Qiu and Fiss also handed their papers to Nicholas.

Taking the papers, Nicholas looked at Dorai with a meaningful expression. "Can you tell me why?"

Dorai said expressionlessly, "Nobles come from wealthy families, have comfortable living conditions, and strong vitality. Their spiritual power may be higher than ordinary commoners, but potionology is a profession that pursues spiritual precision, which has nothing to do with the amount of spiritual power. Commoners cultivate with difficulty, so they will carefully use every bit of their strength and have high spiritual control, while nobles lack this characteristic."

Luo Qiu and Fiss glanced at each other, somewhat stunned and thoughtful.

No wonder many potion masters are commoners, and few are nobles.

However, there are also some nobles, just in smaller numbers. There are even fewer noble apothecaries above Level 3.

Hearing this, Nicholas immediately gave a thumbs up and said, "Insightful, well said. This list will be posted later. Those who were crossed out by you may still sign up. You two will have to work a little harder then."

Although they agreed with Dorai's point of view, they hoped that nobles would come to listen to the lectures, as that meant money or connections.

The three nodded at the same time.

Then, Nicholas suddenly said something irrelevant.

"I heard that you didn't join the Potion Hall?"

Dorai curled his lips and said, "Yes, they are too poor and don't even have a decent alchemy table. What would I do joining them?"

Nicholas was stunned, and Luo Qiu and Fiss were also stunned. They suddenly thought of some things that had happened a few days ago.

Luo Qiu and Fiss looked at each other and simultaneously asked to take their leave. They didn't want to participate in the academy's factional disputes.

Nicholas waved his hand, dismissed the two, and then asked with some doubt, "What do you mean by not having a decent alchemy table?"

Dorai didn't say much, shrugged his shoulders, indicating who knows.

Nicholas was a little surprised. He thought for a while and said, "Does Vice-Dean Lamb know about this?"

Dorai shook his head. "I didn't tell him." He actually wanted to buy a newer and more capable one, but he used the money elsewhere and could only postpone it. Anyway, that alchemy table is broken, but it can still be used.

The infighting in the academy was severe, and Nicholas naturally knew. The role of the alchemy table was enormous for alchemists and apothecaries. If they were given a dilapidated alchemy table, it was no wonder the other party would be angry.

He quickly thought of many things.

Then he nodded, his tone faint and meaningful, and said, "For an apothecary, the most important thing is what kind of potions they can concoct. Take your time. With your current attainments, you have already firmly established yourself."

Dorai didn't want to say anything to this unfamiliar vice-dean and just nodded.

Seeing Dorai's expression, Nicholas didn't say anything more.

With three days before the start of the semester, Lamb Tower became lively. The empty rooms inside the tower had already been mostly allocated and were basically full.

Lamb Tower didn't charge high fees, so many people were willing to stay here. Moreover, there were benefits to living here. Vice-Dean Lamb would give lectures regularly, which was the key.

A magic tower represented a faction. In the future, if they achieved something, they could claim to be apprentices of Vice-Dean Lamb.

Dorai only found out about this later and further understood the cruelty of the wizarding world.

Ordinary qualified students could only listen to the free courses of the most ordinary teachers and live in the worst academy dormitories, while slightly wealthier families could listen to the courses of slightly better paid teachers and live in magic towers, where the benefits were self-evident.

Money can move gods, and money can guarantee all resources. Only with money can one advance quickly. The role of money is fully reflected in the wizarding world.

Dorai's course was very cheap, which was something he specifically requested after Lamb found him. Now it seemed that what he had thought at the beginning was too simple.

As soon as he entered, he saw Katyusha's slightly androgynous and heroic posture coming towards him. Seeing Dorai, she showed a slight smile on her face.
