The Witcher: Elemental Lords
#147 - Layout
As the sun was about to dip below the horizon, the carriage finally arrived at the foot of the mountain.
At the base, a massive architectural complex came into view, spanning hundreds of hectares, an immense area enclosed by stone walls that were surprisingly low.
Within the walls, buildings of varying heights and sizes stood in abundance, filling the entire landscape with a distinct exotic flair.
Most striking were the towering magic towers that rose behind these buildings, their potent energy palpable even from afar.
Was this a mid-level academy?
It was almost an exaggeration; it resembled a small city! What must the true high-level and top-level academies be like?
At that moment, Gudos sensed Dorre’s emotions and said with a hint of pride, "Are you feeling shocked?"
Dorre nodded almost imperceptibly, a sense of longing in his heart.
He was about to study in such an academy, a truly wonderful prospect.
He now felt fortunate to have met Archmage Lamb; had he come alone, he would likely still be serving his time in some miserable fortress, or perhaps assigned to some low-grade academy.
"Thank you, Archmage Lamb."
Dorre exhaled softly, guiding the carriage slowly towards the academy's entrance.
The academy's gate was shaped like a dramatically stylized earth lizard dragon, exuding majesty and solemnity.
It seemed so real that at first glance, one might mistake it for a living creature, its presence awe-inspiring.
Especially its head, with a gaping mouth as if ready to devour anyone, inspiring fear.
Entirely sculpted from stone, it stood over twenty meters tall and sixty meters wide, an extravagant and lifelike creation that left one in awe.
Its tail curled up, forming the very shape of the gate.
The academy entrance was quiet, devoid of any people, yet Dorre felt a sense of being watched; he knew there must be some kind of surveillance array in place.
The wizards of the Glorious Empire were truly ingenious.
The Northern Kingdom revered its powerful knightly orders, while the Glorious Empire was dominated by wizards—two completely opposite worlds.
The carriage slowly approached the academy gate, and soon, two students in identical uniforms emerged.
One dutifully came to take the reins, while the other approached to inquire.
Upon recognizing Archmage Lamb, they immediately became respectful.
"Vice-Dean Lamb, welcome back!"
He seemed genuinely pleased.
Hearing this title, Dorre was somewhat shocked.
Vice-Dean? The old man was truly hiding his abilities!
He should only be at the third tier, so how could he become a Vice-Dean?
Weren't there still four fourth-tier mages?
Lamb now exuded his authority, his expression solemn and dignified.
"Yes, has anything happened at the academy lately?"
The student chuckled, "What could have happened?
Other than preparing for the next intake of new students, nothing else."
Lamb and Gudos alighted from the carriage, and Dorre, who had been driving, also dismounted.
The student looked at Dorre, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
Lamb pointed to Dorre and said, "This is a young friend I met on the road, Dorre, specially invited to serve as a potionology lecturer."
The student was immediately taken aback.
This person in formal attire was actually a lecturer, which meant he was at least at the second tier?
He immediately became respectful, "Greetings, Mr. Dorre."
Dorre also looked at the student, who appeared to be only thirteen or fourteen years old, with the strength of a high-level apprentice, but possessed an impressive aura.
He nodded, "It's a pleasure to meet you too."
After being introduced to the other student, Lamb led Dorre into the academy.
Passing through the tail of the giant lizard and entering the academy, the scene before them instantly transformed.
Upon entering, a smooth, level plaza came into view, completely paved with polished bluestone.
On both sides of the plaza stood various tall, unknown trees, numerous in species, bringing coolness under the scorching summer sun.
Deeper into the trees were various buildings.
Gudos began to take over, proudly explaining the layout of the academy.
"Our academy is divided into two main parts, as you know.
The front half is the Warrior Department of the Combat Division, divided into Swordsman, Archer, Heavy Weapons, and other specialized areas.
The classrooms are also divided into different grades, with four stages in total.
The magic towers in the back are the Wizard Division.
You see those tall buildings around?
Those are all the professional and specialized districts.
With a teacher vouching for you, you'll go to that building over there, the Potion Hall.
Don't be fooled by the size of that building; there are actually very few people there.
Potionology is pitifully understaffed.
I've always wanted to brew potions myself, but I don't have the talent.
It's a real pity."
As they walked, Gudos gave his introduction, giving Dorre a general understanding of the place.
As dusk approached, visibility gradually decreased.
The three walked to the backyard, where the magic towers were located.
There were many magic towers here, a dozen in total.
Some were low, their structure and area small, about three or four stories high.
Others were large, reaching over twenty meters in height and occupying a vast area.
Dorre guessed that these towers were the residences of the academy's senior wizards.
After arriving here, Lamb asked Dorre to follow him, arranging for him to stay with him for the night.
He would discuss the matter of his position with the other vice-deans and hall masters tonight, and resolve it tomorrow.
Dorre naturally agreed; in truth, he would have preferred to be a student, slowly and systematically learning magic.
However, being a teacher wasn't bad either, as it would greatly increase his freedom; each had its pros and cons.
Lamb quickly led Gudos and him to the front of a magic tower.
With a gentle wave of his hand, the slightly dark door opened automatically, and the three entered.
This magic tower had seven floors.
Compared to the surrounding magic towers, its height exceeded fifteen meters, making it an upper-middle-tier tower.

Inside, to the left was a spiral staircase leading upwards.
Dorre glanced at the first floor, a spacious hall with a very high ceiling; the space up to the third floor was empty, with proper construction starting from the fourth floor.
He casually scanned his surroundings, noticing various magical patterns all over the walls, and his heart skipped a beat.
Magic towers were a wizard's most powerful weapon.
They quickly reached the fourth floor, where there were small laboratories and rooms, and most importantly, it seemed like there were people inside.
Dorre was somewhat shocked.
He quickly understood that this was not an exclusive magic tower, but one belonging to the academy.
They soon arrived at the sixth floor, found an empty room, and Lamb settled him in before leaving with Gudos.
The room was large and had everything: a bed, a table, chairs, a bookshelf, and it was thoughtfully divided into different areas.
There were many magical patterns on the walls, making him feel that the place wasn't entirely safe; who knew what those patterns did.
…
Lamb left the room and soon parted ways with Gudos.
He formed a hand seal, and dozens of points of light flew from his hands.
Shortly after, he left the magic tower and arrived in front of another, even taller one.
Soon, he arrived at the top floor of the magic tower, where four or five wizards had already gathered, wearing nearly identical robes.
