The Void Pathfinder from the Demon Hunter World
Chapter 1 Arrival
(Recommended background music for this chapter: "Fallout 4 Main Theme" singer: Inon Zur.)
Preface to this volume:
The Fallout series is a work that I personally like and miss very much.
The story of Fallout is my enlightenment to the concepts of post-apocalypse, dystopia, and apocalyptic wasteland, and it is also the pioneer of apocalyptic wasteland literature and film and television works (at least for me).
Because of my personal preference and the background setting, I chose the second world of this book as the Fallout Wasteland.
It's a bit strange that the medieval magic style suddenly turned into a technological apocalyptic style, but the author is still me, and the writing style will not change.
This is also one of the charms of this book, shuttling between worlds of different styles.
I have recently roughly flipped through some of the popular apocalyptic novels in Tomato Novels. The style of painting tends to be bright, relaxed, and humorous, and the apocalypse is just a background.
Each book is a work that the author has put a lot of effort into. I can't judge anything based on my personal preferences. After all, I am also a novice writer and I don't have that qualification.
The style of the second volume of this book will be darker and more dystopian. After all, the post-apocalyptic wasteland is a world full of struggle and despair.
Including the protagonist, almost everyone is not a "good person", but they also have the courage to survive and fight.
If you really don't like this kind of world view, or can't accept the slightly depressing style of the apocalypse, you can choose to skip the plot and only focus on the setting.
The complete timeline of the Fallout world is very long, and each generation of games will only tell the story of one area. The stories of Fallout 1 and 2 take place in California on the west coast, 80 years apart; the story of Fallout 3 takes place in Washington, DC, thirty years after Fallout 2; the story of Fallout New Vegas takes place four years after Fallout 3, in the Mojave Desert in the west; the story of Fallout 4 takes place six years after the plot of New Vegas, and the location is changed to the Boston area in the east...
The entire series, including the live-action TV series, spans more than 200 years. This does not include various MODs, unofficial games and legends.
There are even masters who made Fallout London, which is called MOD but is actually a new game.
Fallout 1 was born in 1997, and it has been 27 years since then. The 27-year plot filling and the timeline span of more than 200 years have made the whole world more and more complete, but also full of various bugs.
If you want to get into Fallout, I suggest you start with Fallout 4, and you can also get the "Wild Boston" MOD collection, which is very powerful.
Due to space limitations, this volume cannot cover all timelines and regions. I will also make some magic changes, such as using things from other timelines.
I even replaced all specific years and times with XXX in the book, that is, the book does not involve specific timelines.
We can treat the story in the book as a new story with the same world background.
Textual research party, please let it go, don't stick to the timeline, it's meaningless, it's just a story.
Let's get back to the point...
...
Marvin was still a little confused when he woke up. He hadn't seen clearly yet, and he came over "whoosh". What's going on? What dragged him here? Learning machine or Gaunt O'Dimm? No clue...
The blood power deep inside his body has gone silent. It seems that it is impossible to travel through time again in a short time.
The breeze blows the treetops, the sun is very hot, and the temperature is high... There is no breath or sound of any living creature around.
He stood on the top of the mountain, a lush green, green and red leaves and shrubs made the hillside look very beautiful. A section of the communication tower stood in the woods at the foot of the mountain. Further away was a wide river, and on the other side of the river was an endless yellow-green wilderness.
From the scenery he just saw and the section of the communication tower, Marvin judged that this was a world with modern civilization. But the shabby appearance of the section of the communication tower made him a little uncomfortable.
Switching to the other side of the mountain top, the scenery was similar, and a shabby amusement park could be vaguely seen in the distance. The broken and crooked Ferris wheel well explained the current situation of the amusement park.
The scene farther away made him stunned for a moment, it was a large piece of pale land.
It seemed much better to change the direction, it was a green wilderness and verdant mountains, and there seemed to be a farm.
Just as Marvin was about to go down the mountain to visit the farm, a prompt popped up on the learning machine.
Unlike the past, this time it popped up word by word, and it seemed a bit stuck.
[Task prompt: Obtain the "Pip-Boy" product of Shelter Technology. ]
No prompt, no direction, no explanation. If Marvin didn't know what "Pip-Boy" was, he would have been at a loss.
Marvin had played Fallout 4 before, and he almost forgot the plot, but he still remembered this iconic personal terminal. There is another game with the same world background, Fallout 76, but he only remembered a few video clips.
Wasteland world, a bit troublesome.
Marvin began to seriously feel the magic energy and elements in the environment.
Magic energy, so little that it can be ignored. Elements, extremely rare and very inert, very large.
He consumed 5 points of chaos magic energy and shot an ice arrow at the ground. Then he waited for half an hour, and the value of chaos magic energy was 1294/1296. It takes 10 minutes to restore 1 point, 1 hour to restore 6 points, and it takes 7 days to restore 1000 points.
In other words, if Marvin used up all the Chaos Magic Energy in his body, he would not be able to engage in high-intensity combat for at least 7 days. There was no palace or Aretusa Academy here for him to hide and rest for several days.
He is currently spending 5 to 20 points of mana in battle with Ice Arrow, 15 to 50 points with each Seal, much more with Quen's Seal - Active Shield, 10 to 30 points with Fireball and Pyroblast. Read the article to save more fireballs, and open the runes of Gus to damage 20 to 120 points with one knife. That is to say, when you encounter something that is difficult to cut, you can burn 120 points of magic energy with one slash.
If you calculate it this way, even if you want to use magic energy in battle, you must exercise restraint and reserve at least half of the magic energy to deal with emergencies.
In addition, if it is a wasteland, then Marvin's biggest enemy is not monsters or people, but the environment.
Everything has radioactive residues. Eating food and drinking water will bring radiation to the body, which is terrible.
There are medicines for mitigating radiation, but there is a saying in traditional Chinese medicine that medicines are three parts poisonous, not to mention those compounds!
The food and water stored in the inventory are very valuable, so it's better to bring more.
Marvin closed his eyes and felt the power of his blood. He used the top of the mountain as the origin and analyzed the spatial coordinates here according to the calculation method of space magic. In the future, the coordinates of other locations will be based on this point.
After finishing the last thing, he walked down the mountain.
He will not go directly to the farm where there may be people, but plans to find a few targets to test the strength of the creatures here.
If you go directly to the farm, you will be attacked on the way or there are hostile creatures in the farm. It would be unwise to start fighting without knowing anything.
Marvin's first target was the communication tower at the foot of the mountain.
It only takes a few minutes for him to go up and down such a hill, which is over a hundred meters high.
There was no path on the way down, and we didn't even encounter a rabbit.
We successfully approached the communication tower. The tower was already a little skewed, and the areas where the paint was peeling off were severely corroded. The iron tower is built on top of a cement house. From a distance, the cement house has only one floor and looks more like a bunker.
The door has long since disappeared, and there are still some rusted and damaged electronic equipment beside the cement wall, surrounded by a tattered barbed wire fence.
It seems that this communication station has been completely abandoned.
After getting closer, Marvin vaguely heard shuffling footsteps and meaningless humming coming from the concrete house. From the door frame, he could still see a skinny and dull figure squatting motionless on the ground.
Crazy ghoul? More than one.
Marvin had never followed the path of an assassin. His iron boots made a clicking sound when he stepped on the badly damaged concrete floor.
The ghoul turned his head when he heard the noise. When his eyelidless eyes saw Marvin, the whole ghost became excited and rushed towards him with his split mouth without outer lips.
Marvin backed away because there was more than one wight inside.
The strange thing is that this ghoul has dense green crystals on its body, which seem to be growing out of its face, arms, and body.
Sure enough, a second ghoul ran out from the side. It didn't pounce, but raised the... gun in its hand.
Damn it! This thing is definitely not a ghoul, what is it?
Marvin didn't see clearly what kind of gun it was holding, so he decisively stepped out of the shooting range and waited for the one without the gun to come out.
The monster running out the door turned and pounced on Marvin. In the current eyes of Marvin, the speed of this thing is just average, similar to that of a water ghost.
Marvin drew out the ancient pattern but did not activate the magic runes. He dodged the attack, stumbled the crazy ghoul with a hook of his foot, cut off one of the ghoul's calves with a flash of his sword, and then crushed the other calf of the ghoul with a follow-up kick.
From these two blows, Marvin judged that the mad ghoul, let's call it that for the time being, had an average physical strength, which was about the same as that of civilians in the demon hunter world. In close combat with this kind of monster, he can do 1V50.
Ignoring the fallen wight, Marvin turned to face the other one.
The monster was at the door with its head tilted out to aim at Marvin, whether it was shooting from the waist, I don’t know how hard it was aiming.
Marvin ducked out of the way again, dodging in a Z-shape and approaching quickly. The crazy ghoul couldn't catch up with his extremely fast aim.
Guswen easily cut off the mad zombie's hand and the gun in his hand.
Marvin kicked the ghoul with a broken arm into the house, turned around, and saw the ghoul with a broken leg crawling towards this side.
There are no more ghouls in the communications station. Marvin safely conducted some experiments with these two crazy ghouls.
This kind of zombie has no sense of pain, moves only by instinct, and can use simple tools and simple firearms.
His eyesight is very poor, his hearing is good, his sense of touch is basically nonexistent, and he is very sensitive to the smell of blood. As long as he survives, he will maintain a strong desire to hunt and eat.
The bones are a bit brittle and the muscles are stiff, but the movements are fairly quick.
Only severing the nerves in the neck or crushing the head can effectively stop them.
As for death, the moment a human becomes a monster, he may already be dead.
Put away that junk pistol that fell. This thing seems to be called an iron pipe pistol, right?
Withered and burred wood, rusty iron parts, and a barrel with rough rifling, who knows whether the next shot will explode. But it was still useful. Marvin put away the iron barrel gun and planned to go out for a walk again.
As soon as he stood up, Marvin stopped immediately. He heard footsteps...
After a while, a head poked his head through the door.
"Hey man, do you mind if I come in?"
"You can do whatever you want, I'm leaving anyway."
Marvin stood there, he didn't want to pass by a stranger. This is a wasteland.
"No, your accent is weird. Where are you from?"
The visitor pushed up his glasses and walked into the communication station.
The two chairs here are missing arms and legs, so the two of them can only stand and chat.
The visitor is a white man about 175cm tall with curly brown hair. There are scratches and dust on his face. He is a bit stout, but has obvious fat on his belly. He wore a slightly dirty blue jumpsuit, with leather shoulder pads, arm guards, a leather knee pad and a shin guard of unknown material. On his left arm was the well-known Pip-Boy personal terminal. There was a small backpack on his back, a wooden gun butt protruding from the back of his shoulder, and a pistol in the leather holster on his leg.
Oh, a shelter boy? Since I couldn't see the back, I didn't know which shelter he came from.
This guy always talks in a tacky way, and his purpose is obviously not pure.
Marvin definitely had some ideas about the Pip-Boy he had in hand, but he was in no rush to do it. After all, the person is right in front of him and he can't run away.
Marvin has been speaking lingua franca for 18 years and knows that it is actually English, but the accent is different from the British and American accents.
He also speaks a bit of British and American English, but he's too lazy to change it, so his accent sounds strange to the wastelanders.
"Family custom, I'm just a traveler. What's the matter?"
Marvin stepped back and leaned against the dusty broken table.
"No. You seem to be new here. I came from the shelter. We specialize in helping people in Appalachia. Are you the only one?"
The shelter boy is like a salesman: "Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet. I am Luo Qi, Luo Qi Lande."
"Marvin Geidema. It's just me. I don't need help." Marvin decided to use the name of the king's father as his last name.
"Man, this is after the war. Look at those zombies. Everyone needs help."
It turns out that kind of monster is called a zombie, not a crazy ghoul.
"Okay, um, where did you get it? Are there any more?" Marvin pointed to the Pip-Boy on Luo Qi's right wrist.
"This is called Pip-Boy, and everyone in our shelter has one. No problem, follow me to the shelter, and I'll find one for you."
"Okay." Marvin agreed happily, planning to go and see if there was any unexpected surprise.
"Come with me, man, where's your bag?"
"No."
"Fuck!" Luo Qi Landry neatly pulled out his pistol and pointed it at Marvin, "Put your hands up, where is your bag? Country Bum..."
Marvin suddenly moved. He made a mistake with his foot, dodged the shooting area, and dashed forward with a low body. He passed by the distance of more than 4 meters in a blink of an eye. He grabbed the opponent's gun hand with his left hand and moved it back. With a hook of his foot, he easily let it go. killed the enemy.
Removed Luo Qi's weapons and backpack and put them into the inventory.
The shelter boy was stunned by this action, and he blurted out: "Do you have a Pip-Boy?"
Marvin didn't mind what he saw and kicked the robber away.
"Kneel down, it's my turn to ask you questions, not the other way around."
"You can't do this. I don't mean any harm, I just want to...ah! Be gentle, break it... Phew, you can't kill me, don't you want Pip-Boy? I will definitely find one for you! Pip-Boy It’s bound, it’s useless even if you kill me.”
It doesn't matter whether Marvin knows about this issue or not. It's not that he wants Pip-Boy, it's a matter of learning.
This communication station seems to be very remote and is more suitable for doing some shady things.
After an unpleasant communication, Luo Qi Rand confessed when he lost his second finger. During this period, he was moved by himself and said a lot more.
He, like other Vault 76 residents, left when the shelter opened.
At first, like most people, he followed the orders of the shelter supervisor to help the wastelanders rebuild their homes and resist the zombies.
Later he gave up... They are highly educated upper class people, why should they help those mud-legged people? It should be to rule them so that the United States can be rebuilt faster.
So, he went it alone, and used his cunning and knowledge to build a small gang. You have the AK, I have the Laifu, and they will become bigger and stronger...
He felt that it was stupid to go around picking up garbage every day and fighting to death with the zombies.
Marvin was not surprised. There would never be a shortage of such people, and Luo Qi Lande was just one of them.
In Luo Qi's bag were some garbage picked up, the kind of stuff that all radiation players know, as well as 2 healing needles, a bottle of Radiantin, an Antiradiinin, 3 Jets, and 2 boxes of expired cans , 2 sticks of corn, the weapons include a semi-automatic pistol and a double-barreled shotgun, gone.
The most important thing is that there are no bullets, which may be stored in Pip-Boy.
This is a bit confusing, it can't be taken out.
Marvin collected the weapons, armor, shelter jumpsuits, medicine, and food that he had found and discarded them as trash. He's not here to pick up trash.
He had no intention of changing his clothes and armor. There were all kinds of clothes in the wasteland, and he was definitely not the weirdest one.
[Tip: I found the mission item Pip-Boy, do you want to submit it? 】【whether】
Select Yes.
[Tip: Submission successful. Mission accomplished. Bonus ability point +1. 】
Everything here is still unknown, so there is no rush to use ability points. Magic abilities are basically useless here, and other sword skills are not added for the time being.
There was a loud crash, and a lot of things fell out of thin air, including bullets, medicines, underwear, socks, food, several bottles of bottled water and a pile of Coke bottle caps. This should be something from Luo Qi's Pip-Boy.
Pip-Boy is a master of shelter technology. It can view the user's body data. It has map, data recording, and task recording functions. It has an inventory that increases the user's load. It also has a magnetic card slot, an external data cable, and a short Distance wireless communication and FM radio capabilities. It can greatly improve the survival ability of the shelter boys in the post-war wasteland. Note①
[Tip: The fusion of Pip-Boy is about to begin. It is recommended to perform this fusion in a safe area. Do you want to start the fusion? 】【whether】
This place couldn't be called safe at all, so Marvin chose to ignore the prompts from the learning machine for the time being.
He left the communication station leaving Luo Qi Lande's naked body and the broken pieces of the Zombie Man to keep him company. I have to find a place to spend the night quickly.
Go up to the top of the mountain again and walk towards the suspected farm.
…
At the farm, Ma Wen was standing on the grass outside the three-story wooden building with a helpless expression.
A black guy pointed a shotgun at him from the second-floor window and shouted, "Go away! We don't welcome strangers."
Marvin spread his hands: "I'm just asking for directions. If I want to find a place to live, where should I go?"
The black boy seemed to have no ill intentions in Marvin, nor did he look like a predator, so he lowered his gun.
"Go west, then follow the road, go up the mountain and go south to see the 'Black Pine Bar', where you can stay."
"Which way is west?"
Marvin didn't even know morning or afternoon, let alone east, west, north and south.
"It's right behind you. Come on."
"Okay, okay."
When he came to the farm, he crossed the badly damaged concrete road, returned to the road, and walked south...
There were no people or cars along the way. Marvin, who was a little bored, took out his gun and practiced according to the "Karls Tactical Shooting Method" that he had already read once. The pistol had five boxes of more than 100 bullets. He was a little addicted to it.
Because he has sufficient physical fitness, balance, eyesight and dynamic vision, as well as a foundation in shooting ice arrows, pistol shooting has improved rapidly.
When he saw the first person on the road, he was basically able to master this pistol with very little recoil. At least it was small to him and could be ignored.
The man in a shabby coat was getting angry at a completely scrapped car, scolding and kicking him, and it was not clear what he was scolding.
He glanced at Marvin and continued to compete with the broken car.
Marvin had no intention of talking to him. The man's mental state looked wrong.
The cement road went up the mountain. After turning two turns, he saw abandoned armored vehicles and dilapidated roadblocks. There are several decaying human bones behind the barricade bunker.
After bypassing the roadblock, we continued up the stone steps. There were many bullet casings and blood stains scattered on the stone steps. It seemed that someone had fought here.
Marvin had no experience and didn’t know what types of bullet casings they were.
Follow the stone steps all the way to the top. The top of the mountain is half dug out, and a huge circular metal door is inlaid on the boulder with the word 76 in the middle. This is the entrance to Vault 76.
Marvin looked around and couldn't get in.
Going down the stone steps in the other direction, you can see a signboard with the words "VAULT-TEC". From here, you can indeed see a very obvious lighted building on the river bank in the southeast direction.
I sat on the steps and had some food and drink, then walked southeast. I encountered nothing but trees and grass.
He took out the double-barreled shotgun to play with again. He could still play with dozens of bullets for a while.
I have to say, it’s really nice to spray this thing, you don’t need to aim at all, just spray it in a big area.
This was a long-barreled double-barreled spray gun. He remembered that it could be shortened. However, he won't be able to use it at close range. At close range, he can use his hands better than a gun.
After bypassing a bush, a mobile and damaged forest hut appeared in front of it. Marvin approached with a spray gun, but heard no sound. As soon as they walked around the front door of the hut, a corpse-radiated man rushed over from the corner, too close.
Marvin raised his foot and kicked it more than 5 meters away. The corpse man rolled a few times, crawled over with both hands and continued to attack.
The sword flashed and beheaded.
There is a porch in front of the cabin, and inside there is a rusty bicycle with a 28-inch frame.
There were no living things or corpses in the room. There were open suitcases, crumbling beds, overturned tables and chairs, etc. piled up in a mess.
He rummaged around casually and luckily pulled out a drawing "Single Action Revolver Modification Drawing" from the desk drawer.
Marvin would not reject any knowledge, drawings, or data, and he might be able to use them at some point.
After passing the cabin, we were not far from the building on the other side of the river. It was a strange building made of iron sheets and an old trailer.
After walking across a wooden covered bridge and turning to the front of the building, you can see the neon sign of "Black Pine Bar", a small piece of farmland with crops and a two-headed cow in captivity.
Since he arrived in the wasteland, he would definitely encounter all kinds of strange mutant creatures, and he was mentally prepared.
He has even seen creatures like the Lady in the Forest that have lost their SAN value. A two-headed cow is nothing.
Interestingly, the two-headed cow is guarded by a tall robot with three thick wheel legs and a three-barreled rotating cannon. It also makes a mooing electronic synthesized sound.
There are buildings with lights and electricity, farming, and cows in captivity, indicating that the people here are settled and able to produce, so the role of the robots is probably to guard.
Furthermore, if the robot would attack strangers at will, it would have started attacking long ago. Marvin would not have waited for Marvin to think so much, and the big brother sitting next to the cow pen would not have calmly drank beer.
After looking around, Marvin pushed open the iron door and entered the "Black Pine Forest Bar".
"Welcome," the red-haired woman behind the bar said loudly.
Marvin hadn't heard such a modern welcome speech in a while, so he raised his hand as a greeting.
A man with disheveled hair sitting next to him suddenly stood up, took out a gun from his arms, pointed it at the woman behind the bar, and shouted: "You, tell me about the treasure."
The woman quickly raised her hands and backed away, her movements very skillful.
He pointed the gun at Marvin again and shouted: "You, get out, if you come in again I will kill you!"
Seeing the man's sweaty and calm look, Marvin knew he was a newbie, and said to the woman, "Do you want me to do it for you? It's chargeable."
The man with the gun took a step closer and shouted: "Shut up, you ****"
Marvin asked the woman behind the bar with his eyes. The woman nodded slightly while the man with the gun wasn't paying attention.
Anyway, in the blink of an eye, the gun was in Marvin's hand, and the man with the gun fell to the ground and screamed in agony.
The woman held her hands on the bar and stretched her head to look at the man who fell to the ground.
"Wow, I've never seen anyone move so fast. You're such a good player. What should he do?"
Marvin dropped the old-looking gun on the bar.
"You are the boss, you have the final say."
The woman wanted to say something but hesitated.
"clear."
Marvin walked over and picked up the man, broke his neck with a click, opened the door and threw him out, then came back and sat down.
"Okay, how much do you plan to pay?"
"Uh... you... okay, 50 bottle caps."
Bottle caps are the currency of the wasteland. After the nuclear war, the monetary system collapsed and people used Nuka-Cola bottle caps as currency for transactions.
Nuka-Cola held as sacred a place in the hearts of pre-war Americans as Coca-Cola held in the hearts of handsome American otakus, if not more.
"100 bottle caps." Marvin didn't know the price, but he knew it after negotiating.
"Too high, he's not worth that much. 60 bottle caps."
"make a deal."
"Okay, I'm the boss here, everyone calls me Duchess. I'll buy you something to drink." The Duchess handed Marvin a cloth bag, which was rattling inside.
"As long as you have clean water." Marvin took the bag and put it next to him.
"Wouldn't you like some wine?"
"I don't drink."
"It's strange for a man who doesn't drink."
"Men who don't drink water are weird. I'm a little curious about the 'treasure' that the man mentioned just now. Can you tell me?"
"Nothing inconvenient."
The Duchess took out a rag and wiped the bar.
"It was the guy named Crane who brought bad luck. There are always villains coming to harass me. Fortunately, the people from the shelter helped to deal with it. Treasures and stuff are just nonsense. That idiot was probably the last one to come."
"Why did you choose to open a store in such a place?"
This place is out of the blue.
The Duchess opened herself a bottle of beer.
"Before the nuclear war, the two largest cities in Appalachia were Morgantown in the north and Charleston in the south. This was a popular highway between the two. We opened the store here to replicate the war. After all, the war has passed a long time ago. But so far, all we have encountered is trouble. Fortunately, it has passed, and now the neighborhood is as quiet as a sleeping Brahmin."
"What about you? Handsome guy."
"Marvin, a bounty hunter. Just got here."
"Wow, I haven't heard that term in a while, bounty hunter. Where were you before?"
"Anywhere."
"Okay. What do you need?"
"I'm looking for a place to stay for the night."
"There is a hotel next to the cattle pen, and there are no beds available."
"I need a separate room."
"Wow, that's a bit expensive, 15 caps a night."
Marvin pushed the bag over: "It's all here, get it yourself."
"Okay, do you need something to eat? I recommend beef."
"For 2, thank you. Where should I sleep?"
"Mort, take him upstairs."
"receive."
…
Note: Vault 76 was originally built to protect the beautiful Chinese people with the most elite knowledge after the nuclear bomb fell, so as to rebuild the beautiful country after the nuclear explosion. In the game, everyone named No. 76 is played by players. But here they are just elite and beautiful Chinese people, and the rest is up to you to experience.
