“Yes, that’s right,” Zuo Qiu replied through the phone.

“But I’ve pressed the doorbell and there’s no reply,” Lin Chu raised her head to look at the number on the door.

“It could be that Master Yan’s condition has worsened. Give him some time to open the door for you. People who are down with a fever do not have much strength, it’s difficult for them to get out of bed. Miss Lin, do wait a while. Our boss is alone at home with no one around to help him. It’s so worrying that I’m starting to feel distressed for him,” Zuo Qiu said in a serious tone.

Lin Chu bit her lip.

Mr. Zuo, this was not in line with what you previously said.

She wanted to know what exactly Yan Beicheng looks for when hiring an employee.

However, she did find Zuo Qiu’s reasoning valid. If Yan Beicheng’s condition was serious, he would have difficulty even moving. So, she pressed the doorbell again.

Yan Beicheng was still standing by the intercom worriedly, quietly scolding his hands for being out of control. Why didn’t he just go unlock the door? If Lin Chu thought he was not home, what would he do if she were to leave?

He was about to run out after her when the doorbell rang again. The sound was music to Yan Beicheng’s ears.

This time, he did not dare hesitate and immediately pressed the button on the intercom before speaking into it hoarsely, “Miss Lin? What’re you doing here?”

Yan Beicheng sounded surprised and innocent, causing Lin Chu not to suspect a thing. Maybe Zuo Qiu had not told him about the plan, so she replied, “Mr. Zuo said you were sick, so I’m here to check up on you.”

Her face burned bright at her words.

It sounded like she was very worried about him. Lin Chu did feel that she had to bear some responsibility for his illness, even though he had been asking for it. She convinced herself that she was here to take responsibility for what happened. It really was quite sad that he had no one to take care of him; she understood what it felt like, which was why she could not let it go.

Yan Beicheng’s weak voice came from the intercom, “The door is open.”

At the same time, Lin Chu heard an electronic beep. She pulled the door open and went up the elevator.

There were only odd numbers on the elevator buttons because this was a duplex. The floor numbers were 1, 3, 5,7, 9 and so forth.

Lin Chu held on tight to the bag of clothes while standing in the elevator. It was so weird that she had been seeing Yan Beicheng every day. Every time she thought that their time together was over, they would bump into each other again.

Honestly, she would have preferred to avoid seeing Yan Beicheng again by simply passing the clothes to Zuo Qiu. What happened between them last night was still confusing to her. She did not expect to see him again so soon as she had not had the opportunity to clear her head.

She did not have enough time to calm down in the elevator before she reached the 15th floor.

As the door opened, Lin Chu took a deep breath and exhaled before walking out. She did not know when it happened, but her palms sweaty and now, it was dripping so much that it seemed like she had not wiped her hands after washing it.
