The Path to Becoming Immortal
Chapter 1 Returning from Hunting
Deep in the mountains, a remote village.
As the sun sets, in the afterglow, a group of people dressed as hunters carry some of the harvest of the past two days on their shoulders, talking and laughing as they walk into the village.
Walking at the end is a little boy in his teens, with five or six small prey hanging on his small body, stubbornly trying to keep up with the adults in front.
"Mr. Hu~"
"Mr. Hu, are you waiting for that kid? Don't worry, he's not lost, everyone is watching for you."
A big man grinned and talked and laughed with an old man at the entrance of the village, and glanced at the back of the team.
At this moment, when the villagers who returned passed by the entrance of the village, they greeted an old man one by one.
Mr. Hu wore a long gown different from others, and nodded his head with a smile on his wrinkled face. At this moment, he also looked at the little boy at the end of the team.
"Sir, I'm back." The little boy's face was full of fatigue, but his eyes brightened at this moment.
Mr. Hu smiled and nodded: "Well, put the prey away, go back and take a bath first, and your second aunt will bring the delicious food over later, and we will eat together later."
"Okay," the little boy agreed, and said with a boastful look on his face: "I also shot an arrow at the wild boar that my second uncle hunted this time!"
"Not bad, go first!"
Mr. Hu waved his hand to let him hurry up and finish his work. When he walked by, he noticed that the little boy had a few prey on him.
There was also a bow and arrow that was almost as tall as him on his back. The appearance of the little adult almost made him laugh.
However, seeing some injuries inadvertently exposed on his small body, he shook his head with pity.
Looking at the sunset that was about to fall behind the mountain, he sighed slightly, and also stood up tremblingly and walked towards the village.
Today's dinner was much richer than usual. After a meal, the little boy returned to a cave under the hill behind the village with a bulging belly.
As soon as he entered, he grabbed a handful of herbs and wiped some wounds on his body, then threw himself on a simple small bed. After a few days of fatigue, he groaned comfortably at this moment.
The little boy was called Ning Ping. He was picked up by the adults in the village when they went out hunting. Based on a note with the word Ning written on it in his arms, Mr. Hu named him Ning Ping, hoping that he would be safe and sound.
The village was called Shan'ao Village. People in the mountains lived in poverty. Ning Ping was only a few months old when he was picked up.
When everyone thought that the little boy would hardly survive, the little boy unexpectedly survived tenaciously.
And he had never been seriously ill since he was a child. Everyone said that this must be because Mr. Hu gave him a good name.
All kinds of experiences also made Ning Ping particularly precocious and sensible, and he also learned to observe words and expressions. Of course, this also had a lot to do with Mr. Hu's teachings.
This cave was used by the village to store grain. A space was dug out on the side, which became Ning Ping's nest.
The little nest was very simple. The only decoration was a small bookshelf next to the small bed, on which were placed more than a dozen books given by Mr. Hu.
Mr. Hu taught him how to read and write. He was also the only literate elder in the village. He was stranded in the village due to the war. It was said that he had been an official in the city before and was very knowledgeable.
Because he was a scholar and knowledgeable, Mr. Hu later took care of the village's dealings with the outside world.
He also taught the children in the village to read and write, and settled down in the village. Later, Ning Ping appeared and the two simply lived together.
During this period, he noticed that Ning Ping was smart beyond ordinary people, and he taught him more attentively.
And Ning Ping did not disappoint Mr. Hu, and he often understood some truths at a glance.
Ning Ping was just 12 years old when he moved to the cave to live alone, and it has only been a few months today. Although the little nest is extremely simple, the little boy likes it very much.
He remembered that he shot a wild boar and killed two wild rabbits during this hunting trip, and was praised by adults.
Especially since his second aunt, who used to beat and scold him, rarely scolded him today, Ning Ping was still excited.
After thinking for a while, he touched his round belly again. After the excitement passed, he habitually reached out and grabbed a book to read with the help of a small oil lamp.
Ning Ping had read this "Dachuan Travel Notes" countless times, but every time he read it again, he would be deeply attracted by everything in the book.
But today he was too tired, and he fell asleep with his head tilted after reading a few pages.
In his dream, Ning Ping stood up like an invisible and transparent ghost, looked at himself who was still sleeping on the bed, and shook his head helplessly.
He started sleepwalking again, and simply walked through the earth wall and came outside.
At this moment, the moonlight outside was extremely bright, and only the occasional light from the windows of the house in the village in front.
Ning Ping hated that he often sleepwalked like this, and it was precisely because everyone in this village said that he was an ominous person.
Some even suggested abandoning Ning Ping. Later, Mr. Hu strongly opposed it and adopted him. Then they lived together in the village.
Originally, everyone thought he was ominous when he was picked up in the wilderness. Later, he told adults about his strange situation and that he could wander like a ghost, which confirmed this.
Mr. Hu said that he was sleepwalking. Later, adults did not allow children in the village to play with him.
After he grew up and became sensible, of course, under the guidance of Mr. Hu, he never mentioned his unusual behavior. Then everyone gradually forgot about it.
Due to habit, Ning Ping was still not well received by everyone. Only Mr. Hu did not discriminate against him at all.
Instead, he taught Ning Ping more attentively, which made him have less time to play. Ning Ping was quite dissatisfied with this.
But now, seeing that the teacher was getting older, Ning Ping began to feel a little uneasy.
Staring at the distant moonlight, thinking about the past life with the teacher, Ning Ping felt sad.
But at this moment, suddenly there were bursts of roars from the other side of the valley behind him.
Ning Ping was interrupted. Thunder? He looked at the starry sky in confusion. How could such a sky be possible!
Then Ning Ping found that it was definitely not thunder. The intermittent roars did not sound very far away from him, and the sound sounded like it was getting closer.
The sound was on the other side of the valley. He could not walk that far, and he was still a little scared at the moment.
He pricked up his ears and looked towards the top of the mountain. At this moment, another sound came, and it was closer.
While trying to catch the next movement, a black shadow suddenly appeared above the valley, passing by like a big bird.
Ning Ping tried hard to see clearly, but failed, and the black shadow suddenly paused.
It seemed to have discovered the village below and was slightly stunned. It turned its head and looked down, and then turned into a black shadow and rushed straight towards the village.
‘Immortal! ’ At this moment, Ning Ping watched the black shadow passing over his head, and his heart was beating wildly.
Just now, the other party paused, and he had seen clearly that the other party was a human like himself.
The only time he went to the city with his husband, he was lucky enough to see it once, which made Ning Ping very envious, and that was why he was fascinated by the book "Dachuan Travel Notes".
Before the black shadow reached the bottom of the mountain, two more black shadows rushed out of the valley.
“Haha, Gong, don’t waste your time running away, you can’t escape.” A black shadow behind suddenly spoke, and the voice sounded like thunder in Ning Ping’s ears.
As the distance shortened, the black shadow in front seemed to realize that it was futile to keep running. As soon as it arrived above the village, it simply steadied its body in the air and turned to look at the two people behind it.
