The Mountain of Ice and Fire
#793 - The Mountain drives away the sheep thief and tortures Drogon Jaime, a tragic hero
Viserys was the first to be full.
Then Rhaegal, Drogon, and finally the Sheepstealer.
The four dragons, having eaten their fill, were content and didn't want to move anymore.
The Mountain stood not far from the cave entrance, Arianne Martell quietly appearing behind him.
When dragons are full, their aggression greatly decreases.
The Mountain heard the sound, but he didn't turn around.
Turning his back on Drogon and the other two dragons would be seen as a provocation.
Even with the distance, even with the Sheepstealer, even though Drogon and the others were full and content, the Mountain still wouldn't show any weakness.
Arianne came to the Mountain's side, breathing rapidly. She was excited,亢奋, and expectant.
Drogon was the first to notice the appearance of another stranger, but he didn't show any obvious hostility or unease. Perhaps the delicious food had brought him inner peace. But the Mountain knew that was just an illusion; caution was necessary when facing three dragons whose stomachs they had just won over. Dragons could turn on you without any warning.
"Arianne, why did you come out?" The Mountain said in a low voice.
"They're not wild dragons," Arianne retorted, using the Mountain's own words against him.
"Take it slow, caution is the safest approach. We're dealing with dragons here," the Mountain reminded her, his tone full of warning.
"Don't you want me to become a dragon rider?"
"Yes, but not now."
"Then let Rhaegal and Viserys at least see me, acknowledge my presence, let them get familiar with me first."
"Don't go any further, keep your distance," the Mountain said, his voice sharp.
Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserys all looked towards Arianne Martell.
The three dragons didn't show any obvious discomfort at the appearance of this uninvited guest, nor did they pay her any special attention. Their dragon eyes didn't gleam with a different light.
The Mountain speculated that perhaps the three dragons had the most contact with women since they were young, so their hostility towards women was instinctively lower. Daenerys had arranged for three handmaidens to feed the three dragons for four years now, so the dragons should have a better affinity for women.
The Sheepstealer slowly lay down, and Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserys also slowly lay down.
Their tails wagged lazily, their dragon eyes slightly squinted, looking like they were enjoying the wind and sunshine.
"I like the white dragon," Arianne said softly. Her voice trembled slightly, full of excitement and anticipation.
"The white dragon is the weakest in combat."
"But I just like him. He's the most beautiful, with white scales, orange-red eyes, and a slender neck and tail. He's as beautiful as a masterpiece sculpted by a master, every inch unique and incomparable."
"He is indeed beautiful," the Mountain said, "but until you're familiar with him, never turn your back on him."
"I remember, the same goes for Drogon and Rhaegal, the taboo for the three brothers is not to turn your back on them, they see it as a provocation."
"At any time," the Mountain emphasized, reminding her, "When you came out of the cave just now, I heard the sound and subconsciously wanted to turn around, but I stopped myself. Sometimes turning your back on a dragon is completely unconscious. For example, if someone calls you from behind, or if there's a strange noise behind you, people instinctively want to look back, and that can be fatal. By the time you realize it, it's already too late."
"Oh!" Arianne's face turned slightly pale.
When she came out of the cave, she made a sound and did see the Mountain's body slightly turn as if he was about to turn back, but she didn't pay attention at the time, nor did she remember the taboo of not turning around. The Mountain's words made her realize her carelessness just now. If the Mountain had been slightly careless and turned around, it might have provoked the three dragons and resulted in an attack from three fireballs.
A simple turn of the head upon hearing a sound is a human instinct, but when facing Daenerys's three dragons, it's a taboo that could lead to death.
Arianne couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat.
She remembered the taboo of not turning her back on the dragons, but that didn't guarantee that she wouldn't instinctively turn around when she heard a strange noise behind her. Once she turned around and showed her back to the three dragons, she would be violating the taboo of the three little dragons, which could lead to an attack. Not a 100% chance of being attacked, but the chances were extremely high.
The Mountain's caution was completely necessary.
"Go back!" the Mountain said in a low voice to Arianne, staring at the three lazy little dragons.
"I want to stay a little longer, they're comfortable and relaxed right now, we're safe, let Viserys get a stronger impression of me."
"Taming dragons, approaching dragons, is a test of extreme patience, go back now," the Mountain said, his voice with a commanding tone.
Arianne snorted softly. Reason told her that the Mountain's words were right, but her emotions made her feel uncomfortable. She tiptoed and carefully retreated.
Once Arianne was safely back inside the cave, the Mountain also began to retreat, very slowly.
Walking backwards, never violating the taboo.
With the Sheepstealer's protection, even if the Mountain turned his back on the dragons from a distance, it wouldn't be easy for the three dragons to suddenly attack him, but if he wanted to get close to the dragons, he shouldn't violate their taboos, whether near or far. Dragons have a deep memory of those who violate their taboos. That kind of memory carries hostility, it's a negative score.
The Mountain retreated to the entrance of the cave, stopped, and shouted in the dragon language: "Sheepstealer, Drogon, enter the cave, rest."
The Mountain was a shameless person.
In order to control Dorne, he publicly took Arianne Martell as his concubine and kept her by his side at all times. The Mountain wouldn't let Arianne leave him until he had fattened her up. Now, he also passed on the lessons of his life experience's dark side to his comrade: the giant dragon Sheepstealer.
For the sake of the dragon's reproduction, physical hardship was inevitable, just like himself. For the sake of Dorne, the Mountain had to contribute his energy to Arianne, it was a must, and the only option.
The Mountain didn't know the dragons' age of marriage. The Sheepstealer was of mature age, so was Drogon? The Mountain didn't know, but he thought he should let the Sheepstealer try first.
Practice is the only truth.
The Sheepstealer raised his terrifying dragon head to look at the Mountain.
Before the Sheepstealer went to find the three little dragons, the Mountain had a 'heart-to-heart' talk with the Sheepstealer in the human language and the dragon language. The Sheepstealer needed a male dragon, that was without a doubt.
Drogon also raised his head and glanced at the Mountain. He didn't react much to the Mountain's shout, but since the Mountain had mentioned his name, he couldn't help but look up in response.
The giant dragon and the little dragons, having eaten their fill, didn't want to move much in the wind and sunshine.
The Mountain didn't know if his dragon-riding command was appropriate or not, but everything was learned through exploration and experimentation.
The Sheepstealer shook his head, slowly stood up, and let out a gentle dragon roar to Drogon.
The Mountain's dragon-riding language didn't have words for marriage, but it had Valyrian high language - dragon language - for quiet, eating, entering the cave, attacking, flying, lying low, resting, etc.
"Sheepstealer, Drogon, enter the cave, rest," the Mountain shouted again.
The Mountain's loud voice made Rhaegal and Viserys slightly tilt their heads and let out a very light dragon roar, like a burp after a full meal.
The Sheepstealer stood up, his dragon tail whipping Drogon's body, making a crisp snapping sound.
Drogon didn't dodge. The tail didn't have any strength, it was like a friendly punch between brothers.
Then, the Sheepstealer let out a strange dragon breath and cry.
The Mountain didn't understand, but he could see.
In the past, when the Sheepstealer was full, he would often go directly back to the dragon cave and lie at the bottom to rest and sleep, letting the delicious food in his stomach slowly digest.
The Sheepstealer decided to obey the Mountain's dragon-riding command. He was used to obeying the Mountain's dragon-riding commands.
Arianne had also learned most of the dragon-riding commands from the Mountain. She understood the Mountain's dragon language. The Mountain wanted the Sheepstealer to take Drogon into the dragon cave.
A male and a female, entering the dragon cave together, was this a little too fast?
Arianne voiced her doubts. She thought the Mountain was a little too hasty in the matter of breeding dragon sons and grandsons, and it might backfire!
The Mountain ignored Arianne's doubts, and he was too lazy to respond. The Sheepstealer had accepted his dragon-riding command, but Drogon wasn't cooperating so well. But it didn't matter, as long as the Sheepstealer obeyed the dragon-riding command, he would have a way to drive the little Drogon into his dragon cave.
Based on his own experience, the Mountain believed that being full was the best time to do those things.
*
While good times were unfolding in the dragon realm above the clouds, dark times were unfolding in the Citadel's tower in King's Landing.
King's Landing. Red Keep. Citadel Tower.
Jaime and Conny faced each other.
Conny's eyes were strange, and Jaime's eyes were also strange.
No matter how you looked at it, this maid Conny didn't have a trace of Cersei - except for her figure.
Jaime turned his head to look at Cersei and Jeyne, as well as Brienne and Ser Gyles, General Lucan, and the Kingsguard brothers Corbray.
No one spoke, the room was very quiet, Grand Maester Qyburn and one of his apprentices were outside the door.
"They tell me you are Cersei?" Jaime asked Conny. His voice was strangely calm. But his heart was churning.
"I am Cersei, Jaime," Conny's voice was rough and hoarse, completely different from Cersei's voice.
"If you are Cersei, what happened to you?" Jaime couldn't believe that the woman with this voice was Cersei. The woman's face was also Conny's face, which he remembered.
"I had my face swapped by Arya Stark, dark magic," Conny's voice was torn and hoarse.
Jaime slowly turned his head to look at the bright-eyed Cersei, his gaze becoming very cold and sharp.
"I am Arya Stark, I am a Faceless Man," Cersei, standing next to Jeyne, said lightly. She looked directly at Jaime, slowly shaking her head of golden hair, her golden hair turned maroon, and Cersei's beautiful face turned into Arya's stern face. On that face, her gaze was as cold as the ice of the North.
Jaime was completely stunned!
He saw the Faceless Man's face-changing magic for the first time. He wanted to rub his eyes, but he didn't move. He saw Cersei turn into Arya, he was shocked and couldn't move for a moment.
"Valar morghulis?" Jaime said subconsciously.
"Valar dohaeris," Arya said coldly.
"The Faceless Men don't let people know their true faces," Jaime suddenly increased his tone, as if he was saying this to himself. He seemed to be forcing himself to believe what his eyes saw. He heard his voice ethereal and unreal. It all seemed like a nightmare.
"I'm an exception, Jaime," Arya Stark said lightly.
"Why didn't you kill her?" Jaime heard his voice as if he was gnashing his teeth. Was that his voice? He knew how miserable and painful it was for Cersei to have her face swapped and be used as a maid.
"Because of you!" Jeyne said lightly.
"Because of me?"
"You are the Mountain's second-in-command, and you made great contributions in the battle against the Others in the North," Jeyne said, "Lord Mountain has ordered us to spare your life."
"Jaime, I am very grateful to you for fighting for Winterfell," Arya Stark said solemnly.
"I won't fight for Winterfell, and I won't fight for Stark. The Others are also my enemies. I fight for myself," Jaime said hoarsely. He felt that the people around him were turning into phantoms and shaking slightly. He quickly frightened his mind and bit the tip of his tongue to bring himself back to reason from his trance.
"Jaime, we are all grateful for the battle of Winterfell," Jeyne said indifferently. Her words were very polite, but the reality was cold and ruthless.
"Humph!" Jaime snorted, "Jeyne, so the Mountain wants to sit on the Iron Throne."
"We won't talk about the Iron Throne, Jaime. The Mountain hopes that you can take Cersei, take Tommen and Myrcella, and leave King's Landing. This is your last chance. If you accept, we will secretly arrange everything."
"The Mountain killed my father, Arya, in Cersei's name, scattered my family's wealth, and then you come and kindly tell me to leave this continent to show your grace."
"It's not to let you leave Westeros, it's to let you," Jeyne said lightly, "Of course, you can also not accept, not leave, then we will immediately throw you and Cersei into the underground black prison. Grand Maester Qyburn has asked Arya for Cersei to be her medical specimen many times, and I will persuade Arya to fulfill the national master."
Jaime choked!
"Jaime, I am Cersei," Cersei's hoarse voice was crying, "I know all your secrets, from childhood to adulthood," Conny said. She slowly approached Jaime and whispered something in Jaime's ear. Jaime's body shook, and his face immediately turned pale, as if he had been shot by an arrow.
Cersei and Jaime looked at each other. After a while, Jaime reached out and hugged Cersei, and Cersei also reached out and hugged Jaime, Cersei's body trembling slightly. She longed for Jaime to take her away. She would rather commit suicide than be Qyburn's medical specimen. She had sent many good sisters to Qyburn for medical research, and the screams of those sisters left a deep impression on her.
"Jeyne, tell the Mountain, if I have the chance, I will kill him," Jaime said.
"I will tell the Mountain."
Jaime's gaze swept over everyone in the room, and finally his gaze fell on Cersei's face: "Okay, we will leave Westeros."
