Seeing Fen Wen was so respectful, Tian Rong tilted her head in confusion, "Why are you being so respectful to me?" She paused for a bit, "Ah I haven't introduced myself…"

Tian Rong smiled apologetically as she performed a perfect curtsy, "My name is Tian Rong from Tian Family, daughter of the current finance minister."

Her elegant movement stunned Fen Wen for a second but then the girl was taken aback after she realized the lady's name and position.

'Isn't this girl the one rumoured to be engaged with Mao Mao??' Fen Wen was alarmed.

Snapped awake from her thought, Fen Wen instantly realized that she had been impolite to someone of a higher status.

Stuttering, the girl quickly apologized, "P-please forgive me, my lady, there's nothing wrong…" Fen Wen bit her lips, "My lady is very beautiful."

Fen Wen threw praise to Tian Rong.

She really did think like that.

Blushing, Tian Rong fanned her red face, "Ah, you're flattering me. You're also beautiful!" The girl scanned Fen Wen from head to toe before asking, "Can I know your name?"

'Looking from her attire she should be a daughter of officials too but I never saw her before..' Tian Rong silently thought.

If she never saw her at the gathering it means this girl wasn't from a high-rank noble, right?

Fen Wen darted her eyes around feeling reluctant to reveal her identity. But being asked like that, she had to answer. Taking a deep breath, Fen Wen made a curtsy.

"My name is Fen Wen, a daughter of low-tier officials...I'm his excellency personal maidservant."

Fen Wen lowered her head as she said so. Her simply tied hair slipped to the front covering her shoulder.

Once Fen Wen introduced herself, Tian Rong gasped. The girl looked at Fen Wen for a few times before frowning.

'A maidservant? What is she doing here?'

Tian Rong thought as she rubbed her chin. The girl looked at the other side of the yard where all the servants and guards were gathering. Then she looked back at Fen Wen with questioning gaze.

Even if the girl was a daughter of an official, she was currently a maidservant. Shouldn't she join the group over there and not stay here?

"...does Lord Mao allow you to be here?" Tian Rong subconsciously asked but then she immediately regretted her word choice.

She sounded rude!

Fen Wen flinched, her head was dropped low as the girl clenched her fist tight. The question hit her hard as that wasn't wrong.

Trembling, Fen Wen wanted to answer but her mouth refused to obey. She could only stand there staring at the ground.

Seeing Fen Wen's reaction, Tian Rong had just about to correct the question when a low voice sounded behind Fen Wen.

"Yes, I allow her to be here." Mao Mao grabbed Fen Wen's shoulder from behind as he added, "Is there anything wrong with that?"

The young man threw a death glare at Tian Rong instantly made the girl flinched. Her face rapidly turned pale not noticing Mao Mao's arrival.

"T-this subject beg for forgiveness! I-i didn't mean to ask that…" Tian Rong lowered her head and covered her mouth. Her shoulders were trembling she squeezed her eyes tight.
