#867 - Batman-style interrogation
“I read a trace of fear from your mind.”
Harby ignored Robin, instead lowering himself, staring at Bane almost face to face, the latter panting heavily and staring at the former with shocked and angry eyes.
“It's hard for living beings to remain calm when faced with the threat of death, especially a painful death by suffocation.”
Harby ignored him, just talking to himself.
“Having just walked through the gates of hell, a loophole has appeared in your originally impenetrable brain. Taking advantage of the time before you rebuild your defenses, I have already read what's in your mind.”
After Harby finished speaking, the tail behind him rose high, then suddenly struck Bane's head, the latter falling to the ground with a thud, unconscious.
“I'll send the information I've gathered to you.” Harby turned around, informed the stunned Robin and others, and transmitted the information in his brain to everyone through telepathy.
This included not only what was in Bane's mind, but also what was in the minds of the Cobra Cult goons.
As mentioned earlier, Robin, in order to save time and because there were two telepaths, separated the two groups of enemies for interrogation.
Miss Martian was responsible for Bane, while Harby naturally dealt with the Cobra Cult goons.
Unlike the battle-hardened Bane, the Cobra Cult goons obviously did not have a way to counter telepathy, so Harby easily stripped everything from the minds of all the goons.
It only took a few minutes. When he came back, he saw Bane sitting on the ground talking eloquently, taking control subtly while the Young Justice kids weren't paying attention.
It can only be said that Bane is indeed a man who once comprehensively overwhelmed Batman in intelligence and force. It was easy for him to coax a few newly independent children.
Harby, this hidden adult, naturally couldn't sit idly by, but he wasn't in a hurry to take action. He had been hiding and observing Bane's expression.
At the key moment when the other party thought he was in control of the overall situation, Harby launched a surprise attack on Bane. He decloaked, entangled, and hanged him all in one go, catching Bane off guard.
Bane obviously didn't expect that there would be someone so ruthless among these children. He was mentally unprepared, and his body was weakened by the lack of Venom, coupled with the threat of death from suffocation. These three factors allowed Harby to break through Bane's psychological defenses in an instant.
Taking advantage of this momentary gap, Harby stripped everything from Bane's mind.
This method is very efficient, but it doesn't seem to conform to the rules. The Young Justice kids all thought Harby was really going to kill Bane. Coupled with the appearance of a mutant, he really had some villainous aura.
It was no exaggeration to say it was a way to stop children from crying.
“Seriously, for a moment there, I thought you were really going to kill him.”
Kid Flash walked quickly to Harby's side. As the most popular person on the team, Kid Flash could chat with anyone.
Therefore, Robin gave him a mission through Miss Martian's telepathy, asking him to pay attention to Harby's mental state. Robin was afraid that Harby's violence just now might have some hidden dangers.
“Just a common intimidation tactic in interrogation.” Harby explained.
“We don't have extra time to waste. The longer we drag it out, the more likely we are to be discovered by the enemy's main force, so I had to use some extreme methods.”
Kid Flash scratched his head and said, “Okay, but I think you're still a bit too extreme.”
“It's nothing compared to Batman.” Harby recalled. “When Batman first debuted, his favorite interrogation method was to tie ropes to the criminal's legs and then drop them off a building without informing them.”
“I've seen the League's internal information. This is just the tip of the iceberg of Batman's interrogation techniques. Of course, now he prefers to use the Batmobile's huge tires to crush criminals' heads.”
“Bane, who has been Batman's opponent, knows his methods very well, but even without this relationship, Bane is a tough nut to crack. I just caught him off guard when he was most relaxed. It probably won't work again.”
Kid Flash didn't speak. Indeed, compared to Batman, simply strangling someone was much gentler. After chatting with Harby for a while, he felt that the other party shouldn't have any problems.
After all, they said when they first met that he was a clone created for assassination purposes, so it shouldn't be a problem if his methods were a little cruel, right?
No, there's still a problem. Kid Flash felt that he needed to help Harby change his mindset. After all, the other party had already stepped into the sunlight, and it was better to discard the dark mindset as soon as possible.
As for how to change it, um, he'd better go back and discuss it with the others before making a decision.
Yang Le wasn't omniscient or omnipotent. Without using telepathy, he couldn't possibly know that Kid Flash came to talk to him with a mission. Of course, even if he knew, it wouldn't matter. He would still speak his mind.
After all, these kids didn't have bad intentions, and Robin was just worried about Harby's mental state.
Robin felt that as the leader of Young Justice, he had an obligation to be responsible for the team members' condition not only during missions, but also in their daily lives.
In his opinion, Harby and Conner, these clone brothers, both had considerable psychological problems, so he had been silently paying attention to the two of them since the early days of the team's formation, but he didn't expect that the problems of these two brothers would erupt during one mission.
It seems that being a captain is not so easy after all. Robin sighed in his heart, suddenly feeling that his task was heavy and the road was long.
There was no talk along the way, not because of Harby's actions, but because stealth reconnaissance missions didn't allow them to laugh and joke. Moreover, they could communicate through telepathy, so there was no need to speak.
Following the memory in Bane's mind, the group came to the edge of a cliff. Looking from here, they could see the processing plant in the distance.
It was already late at night, but the processing plant in the distance was still brightly lit. Even from such a distance, they could feel the hustle and bustle inside.
Obviously, Batman's information was correct. The processing plant's power line was indeed cut off, but the internal drug production was obviously not stopped.
And, by piecing together Bane's memory and the Cobra Cult goons' memory, they could come to a rough answer.
The reason why the processing plant's power line was cut off was because they no longer produced the Venom drug for external supply, but instead switched to producing a more powerful Cobra drug.
