The Admiral of Hogwarts
#470 - The principal left
By the time Hugo and his two companions arrived downstairs, it was already a bit late. They only caught the tail end of Professor Dumbledore's announcement that, as headmaster, he had the right to allow the dismissed Trelawney to continue living in the castle.
"I can't believe that cow dares to make such a big move under these circumstances," Hermione said, frowning. "After all, there are ten Death Eaters wandering around out there. Shouldn't they be dealing with those things?"
"Expected," Hugo said, crossing his arms. "At a time like this, the most important thing for Umbridge is to show her absolute loyalty to Fudge. And firing a professor from Dumbledore's side is the best way to demonstrate her position."
As Hugo and the others were chatting, Umbridge began to question what would happen if there was a new Divination teacher. Dumbledore then stated that he had already found a new professor.
"Firenze." Seeing the centaur with golden hair, blue eyes, and a pale fawn body walk in, Hugo quickly recognized him.
It wasn't strange for Hugo to recognize these centaurs. After all, unicorns preferred to roam in the Forbidden Forest, so he naturally kept records on the centaurs who lived there.
"Judging by Umbridge's expression, she certainly didn't expect Professor Dumbledore to find a Divination professor so quickly," Hermione said, smiling happily as she looked at the dumbfounded Umbridge.
"This should be considered Headmaster Dumbledore's counterattack," Veneto said softly from the side. "Hopefully, Fudge will know when to stop. We can't let the Dark Lord seize the opportunity to defeat us one by one because of infighting."
"Will it work?" Hermione asked.
"Professor Dumbledore thinks it will," Hugo said, dropping his arms and shrugging. "But I suspect that Fudge, who has been completely blinded by power, probably won't understand the good intentions our headmaster is showing, and might even do worse things."
In all fairness, Professor Trelawney's dismissal wasn't entirely a bad thing. For example, Divination class had now become the most popular course among the little witches of Hogwarts.
It could only be said that most people in this world were shallow and obsessed with appearances. Firenze, with his pale golden hair, sapphire blue eyes, and somewhat melancholic and mysterious temperament, successfully aroused the little witches' interest in the course. Or rather, their interest in this handsome centaur.
However, for the fifth and seventh-year students, this was just a minor interlude, because the most important thing for them now was to prepare for those important exams.
"Honestly, I feel more confident facing the exams now than before," Marietta said seriously during practice one day. At the tip of her wand, a silver starling flew around her in the sky.
"Yes, this is the benefit of us studying together," Hugo said with a smile. "Because this way, everyone can brainstorm and find the blind spots that we easily miss when studying on our own."
Because they had gained so many benefits, and because the exams were getting closer and closer, everyone decided to give up their holidays and gather a few more times.
After all, for Ravenclaw students, exams and studying were the most important things, and giving up vacations for this was a very normal thing to do.
Soon, Halloween arrived. In the original story, Harry's DA was exposed on this day due to Marietta's betrayal, even causing Dumbledore to be driven out of Hogwarts.
But now, Marietta hadn't joined the DA, so Halloween passed very smoothly, and that series of terrible events didn't occur.
Because of this change, Hugo gained three fate points. Compared to the fate points gained from things deteriorating, he was happier to receive these fate points due to the improvement of events.
However, after Halloween passed, things took a sharp turn for the worse. One day, while Hugo and the others were practicing spellcasting and dueling in the Room of Requirement, they unexpectedly heard a commotion in the corridor.
"Another professor fired?" Hugo lowered the arm holding his wand and muttered to himself, looking at the oak door of the office.
"Probably not. For Umbridge, firing a professor once in a short period is enough. Firing professors in quick succession doesn't have a strong deterrent effect," Enterprise said, standing up and walking towards the door. "So, let's go take a look."
When everyone opened the door and went into the corridor, they found that the corridor was full of people. It was as if all the teachers and students in the school had come out of their rooms at this time.
What shocked Hugo a little was that Professor McGonagall, who should have been teaching, was also standing in the corridor, and behind her was a group of fourth-year students who had been in class earlier.
"What exactly happened?" Hugo pulled over a Ravenclaw third-year student and asked. "Why is everyone here? Did something big happen?"
"Umbridge just announced that Professor Dumbledore has been removed from his position as headmaster," the third-year boy said. "And Umbridge has demanded that Headmaster Dumbledore leave Hogwarts Castle immediately."
"The Ministry of Magic doesn't have the right to remove the headmaster of Hogwarts from his position, does it?" Hermione frowned sharply, "Unless it can be proven that the headmaster has violated the law, the Ministry of Magic cannot interfere with the school's operation."
"You're right, but the Board of Governors can make a decision to have the headmaster leave." After being reminded by Hermione, Hugo suddenly remembered that institution that was usually ignored.
"If I'm not mistaken, our Minister Fudge must have used various means to get the Hogwarts Board of Governors to issue such an order."
It wasn't incomprehensible that the Board of Governors would take such action. After all, they had already done something like this once in their second year, and it was normal for them to do it again now under Fudge's orders.
More importantly, those governors were basically from pure-blood families and had always been dissatisfied with Dumbledore, so they naturally wouldn't let go of the opportunity to drive Dumbledore away.
"—You can't do this." At this moment, Professor McGonagall's somewhat shrill voice echoed in the corridor. "The situation is so dangerous now. What will happen to the school if Headmaster Dumbledore is driven away?"
"This is a decision made collectively by the twelve governors, Professor McGonagall. I hope you can abide by the school's operating procedures," Umbridge's spine-chilling voice immediately rang out.
"Moreover, the Ministry of Magic can confirm that everything is safe. The so-called danger is just a misjudgment made by Dumbledore due to his old age."
"Alright, Minerva, calm down." Hugo saw Dumbledore, wearing a purple traveling cloak, appear from the stairwell and say to the two people below. "If the Board of Governors wants me to leave, Dolores, I will, of course, give up my position."
Saying this, Dumbledore raised his head and looked around at the surrounding teachers and students with his bright blue eyes. Everyone who looked into his eyes felt as if he had seen into the depths of their souls.
"However," Dumbledore said very slowly and clearly, so that everyone present could hear every word he said, "I will only truly leave this school when everyone here has betrayed me. You will also find that, at Hogwarts, those who ask for help will always receive it."
