The Admiral of Hogwarts

#136 - First day of school

The next morning, Hugo, like last year, jumped out of bed early. Then he met up with Hermione and Veneto to go out for exercise.

After the exercise, the group returned to the dormitory to freshen up, and then walked towards the Great Hall with their morning textbooks, full of energy.

The reason he was in such a good mood was partly because of the exercise he had just done, and partly because he had received a full 5.5 fate points after midnight last night.

Five points came from the way Harry and the others arrived at the school, which was completely different from the original text, and the other 0.5 points came from Hermione and the others' new roommate.

Last year, due to the number of new students enrolling, their dormitory, which was originally supposed to accommodate three people, only had two.

This year, after the arrival of the new students, the vacant spot was naturally filled by a new student.

Thinking of this, Hugo subconsciously turned his head to look at his sister and Veneto's new roommate at the table.

This little girl had a head of messy, dirty, waist-length golden hair, very light-colored eyebrows, and protruding eyes, which gave her a perpetually surprised expression.

That's right, she was Luna Lovegood, a relatively well-known female character in the original text.

Perhaps because of her appearance, or perhaps because of her personality, some of the first-year students were repulsed by her.

Therefore, this morning she came to eat with her two older roommates.

Hogwarts' breakfast was as rich as usual. Under the enchanted ceiling (which was gray with clouds today), the long tables of the four houses were laden with bowls of porridge, plates of pickled herring, piles of toast, and dishes of eggs and bacon, which were very appetizing.

At this time, Hugo quickly grabbed some food from the table in front of him and started eating quickly, because it was the first day of school, and a large number of owls were often sent by parents or friends to deliver things to the students.

Although the ancient magic power in the Great Hall could prevent the owls from dropping things on everyone's heads, it couldn't prevent some owls from dropping the packages or letters they were carrying onto the dining table.

Sure enough, a package was thrown towards the pile of fried eggs in front of Hugo.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly and grabbed the package that had been thrown down, so that the package didn't smash on the plate and send the eggs in the plate flying in all directions onto everyone.

"Ah, thank you!" After Hugo glanced at the cover of the package and handed it to Luna, who was diagonally opposite him, Luna said in a somewhat ethereal tone, then took the package from Hugo's hand and returned to her seat to continue eating.

Judging from the name on the package, it should have been from Luna's father to his daughter.

For a single father, taking care of his daughter alone was no small feat, which may have contributed to Luna's current personality.

Hugo felt that one of the important reasons why Luna's interpersonal relationships were somewhat poor in Ravenclaw in the original text was probably because of her appearance and her personality.

As a doctor in his previous life, Hugo naturally knew that it was perfectly normal for Luna, who grew up in such an environment, to have this kind of difficulty in communicating with people.

However, her slightly autistic tendency, coupled with her unfocused gaze, easily led others to mistakenly believe that she liked to keep others at arm's length.

At least Hermione must have misunderstood, because Hugo saw his sister frowning at Luna after this incident.

From Hermione's point of view, the incident just now became Hugo helping Luna, but Luna had an aloof expression of indifference.

Of course, Hermione's displeasure was also due to the strange feeling she had when she saw Luna for the first time. After all, Rowling once said when she wrote the novel that Luna could be seen as the opposite of Hermione.

And when a person sees someone who is very close to the opposite of themselves, they will naturally have some strange or even repulsive feelings in their heart.

"Don't worry, I'll find a way to explain it to your sister," Veneto immediately comforted him through the admiral network after sensing Hugo's worries.

"I believe that as long as this matter is explained, your sister's intelligence will eventually lead her to discover the misunderstanding here."

"I think so too," Hugo replied. "And I think what's worth celebrating is that my sister isn't the kind of person who likes to bully others, so the campus bullying incidents that appeared in the original text shouldn't happen."

"The first class is Defense Against the Dark Arts with Slytherin, which is really too bad," Hugo complained as he walked up the stairs with Hermione and the others after breakfast.

For him, the first class of the semester was enough to ruin all the good mood he had when he got up this morning.

Fortunately, because of what Hugo and the others had done during the summer vacation, they didn't have to carry a thick copy of Lockhart's novel and climb several floors to attend class.

However, Hugo also felt that with Lockhart's showy personality, he might not honestly talk about the content of these formal textbooks.

Because everyone didn't like Lockhart, they naturally were the last students to walk into the classroom.

After entering the classroom, they found that many girls were squeezed in the front rows, chattering about something, while the boys sat there silently with some depressed expressions on their faces.

"It seems that fan culture has similar forms of expression in different cultural backgrounds and different eras," Hugo thought, and walked to the last row of the classroom with Hermione and the others, and then sat down in an inconspicuous corner.

Not long after they sat down, Gilderoy Lockhart walked in from the outside.

Today, he was wearing a flowing turquoise robe, and a turquoise top hat with gold trim was placed squarely on his shiny golden hair, looking like a peacock in full bloom.

It had to be said that this set of clothes looked very decent, but from all angles, it was not suitable for wearing such clothes to teach.

"Children, I am very happy to see you in the first class at Hogwarts," Lockhart cleared his throat loudly after scanning the students in the classroom to calm everyone down, and then said.

"Of course, I am also very honored to return to my alma mater to teach you a year of Defense Against the Dark Arts."

"Teach a year of Defense Against the Dark Arts?" After hearing Lockhart say this, Hugo realized that the liar in front of him had some skills.

Obviously, as a Ravenclaw graduate, Lockhart was not completely brainless and couldn't not know about the curse of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class.

It's just that he believed that this curse should be aimed at those professors who planned to stay here for a long time, so he felt that if he only taught here for a year, the curse shouldn't do anything to him.

"If Voldemort's curse could be bypassed so easily, he wouldn't be called the Dark Lord," Hugo shook his head gently after roughly guessing Lockhart's thoughts.

At least according to the information he had collected, Dumbledore should have done similar things, such as changing the name of the class, the location of the class, or changing professors on time.

It's just that even with the headmaster's authority and the power of the castle, Dumbledore could only do his best to reduce the mortality rate of the professors in this class.
