Stupid Odin
#94 - I won the jackpot (10 more)
Thor turned his head and asked Loki, "Fly?"
Loki rolled his eyes.
Fly? How else could he stall for time?
Loki threw a load of logic at Thor's face: "Your goats aren't fully recovered yet."
Thor deflated.
What else could he do?
He couldn't just stop here.
Miserable, Thor could only go chop wood like a madman, carry it over, and toss it to Loki and the others to tinker with. After spending the better part of the day, they finally lashed together a huge raft.
The trees in the Ironwood Forest were all very tall, generally exceeding 20 meters. Thor was also strong, so he easily put together a large raft 60 meters long and 20 meters wide.
Thor had to admit that he was good at brute strength, but Loki was better at fancy work. In many places, Loki didn't do it himself, he just pointed and directed the two servants to chisel mortise-and-tenon-like structures into the wood, locking the wood tightly together.
This raft wasn't pretty, but it was sturdy. Even if the straw ropes binding the wood broke, it wouldn't necessarily fall apart. Then, they skinned the wild beasts they hunted in the forest and simply sewed them together with plant fibers, creating a simple sail.
Before setting off, Thor asked, "Wait, Loki, what if Idun was abducted to Jotunheim? If that's the case, what's the point of all our effort? Wouldn't it be better to start directly from Odin's castle?"
A slightly guilty Loki forcibly analyzed, "What are you thinking? Jotunheim is guarded by Odin. That guy wouldn't be stupid enough to take Idun there. I'd say she's on some island out at sea."
"Alright, you've convinced me."
For the Aesir and the Light Elves, the scenery of the sea was novel. Propelled by the sea breeze, the one god and two elves were quite excited for the first few days, but as time passed, they began to get bored.
In these days, the question Thor asked the most was naturally: "Loki, are you sure we're not going the wrong way?"
Loki rolled his eyes. He wished they were going the wrong way, but he said, "Even if Idun threw down golden apple fragments, they'd be eaten by fish. Without clues, what else can we do? Keep wandering around. When the food runs out, then we'll fly."
Thor was overjoyed: "I think my goats are much better now. How about..."
"No way!" Loki refused decisively.
The weather at sea can change in an instant.
This afternoon, in a very short time, the sea suddenly began to pour down rain. The waves beat against the edge of the raft, as if trying to smash this 'shoddily made' raft to pieces in one go.
The raft was actually sturdier than Thor had imagined, but the whole raft made a frightening creaking sound from every corner, giving the feeling that it would fall apart in the next second.
The thunder in the distance made Thor feel familiar, but he didn't like this stormy sea.
The white waves rolling in the darkness always felt like they would drag him to the bottom of the sea at any moment.
Underwater was the only battleground Thor wasn't good at.
The sea storm was getting bigger and bigger. In the distance, an extremely exaggerated 15-meter-high triangular wave rolled up, a scene that made Thor's two servants a little scared.
Thor comforted them, "Don't worry, [Ocean] is the divine duty of my father, Tangs. He will bless us."
This was clearly true. Never mind that the waves in the distance were higher than the last, and that the overwhelming momentum was very frightening. When the waves approached the raft, the giant waves would calm down in a very short distance, and those high waves would quickly disappear below the sea level.
This scene made Loki a little envious.
Having a god-king father, and a god-king father in charge of [Ocean], was really too convenient.
If it were any other ship, it would probably have been sunk by the giant waves long ago, leaving only a bare mast, or broken pieces of wood floating on the surface of the sea.
Just then, a faint song came from the distance.
The voice was very melodious and pleasant. Even by Thor's standards, it seemed that only three or five goddesses in the entire God Realm could reach this standard.
It wasn't that the goddesses' sound quality was not good, but the charm in this song was something that most goddesses couldn't sing, or were too reserved to sing.
"Is that... a mermaid?"
On the sea not far away, a beautiful mermaid with two shells on her upper body was swimming back and forth, showing sweet smiles and waving to Thor and the others.
Come on! It's very safe here!
That's what they seemed to be saying.
Thor was a little tempted. He just looked at Loki, but saw Loki shudder.
"My mother Laufey said that when you're out and about, the more beautiful things are, the more dangerous they are."
Thor really wanted to complain, your mother is a giant, would she even teach you this?
But before Thor could say anything, suddenly the sea changed.
"Boom!" A muffled sound came from the bottom of the raft, followed by a crisp "crack."
The faces of the two servants turned pale.
Don't underestimate this raft. The wood in the Ironwood Forest is not fragile. Whatever can break the raft must be very hard.

In everyone's astonishment, they saw that the faces of those 'mermaids' suddenly cracked open, revealing hideous petal-shaped faces and mouths full of terrifying fangs, trying to attack them. Not only that, but the sea level seemed to be rising, with a massive amount of seawater gushing up from the seabed, surging from both sides of the raft, pushing the raft straight up.
"Fly!" Thor couldn't bear it any longer, summoned the goat chariot, waved the reins, and the two goats stepped into the air, taking the four of them into the air.
Less than three seconds after they left the raft, the poor raft let out a burst of shattered wails, and the thick wood was like noodles, being swept into the water by a mysterious force and completely crushed.
"What is that?" The servant Thialfi pointed remotely to the long, slender shadow in the sea.
That shadow was not an inanimate object. Even through the seawater of unknown depth, it could still be seen slowly wriggling through the little sunlight that fell between the clouds.
There was more than one shadow. An unknown number of shadows pointed to that large island that was looming in the storm.
This island was really big, estimated to be at least dozens of square kilometers, covered with dense mangroves.
But looking at the island, Thor had a strange sense of déjà vu.
For some reason, he remembered his father's instructions before he set off.
Thor realized what this thing was, and instead of being surprised, he was delighted: "We've hit the jackpot!"
"Jackpot?" Loki was stunned.
"That's right! Jackpot!"
That wasn't the end of it. The sharp-eyed Roskva suddenly pointed to the island: "Look, is that a golden apple?"
Light Elves are mostly excellent archers, and their eyesight is beyond doubt.
Thor had the goats approach the island, and they all stared wide-eyed.
Well, that's right, they hit the jackpot.
Good news: The goddess Idun and the target ordered by the God-King have been found.
Bad news: The Idun to be rescued is on the forehead of a giant sea monster.
The two gods and two elves had a sense of bewilderment at being cruelly played by fate.
