Stupid Odin

#83 - The Four Stages of Odin

Gullveig's eyes widened, slightly disbelieving her ears.

It had been too long.

So long that she had almost forgotten she was a goddess skilled in magic and alchemy.

Even after the fall of the Vanir, fearing targeting by her former colleagues, she clung tightly to Thanes, the biggest thigh of the Aesir. She painstakingly studied dance, hoping not to be abandoned by Thanes, who might tire of her.

Who would have thought that one day she would have the opportunity to stand on her own?

“I will! Your Majesty!” Gullveig raised a hand, enveloping the exaggerated volume of venom with a mysterious power. She casually summoned glass containers to hold the terrifying venom that could even poison gods.

Finally being promoted and having work to do was certainly delightful, but Gullveig felt a little conflicted. She could start working immediately, but wouldn't that mean she wouldn't have time to perform the painstakingly practiced [Deadly Eighteen Squats]?

Seeing through her little thoughts, Thanes beckoned from afar: “Come, come, keep the music playing, continue dancing.”

During the banquet, Freya whispered, “Was that snake just now also a Chaos Monster?”

“Yes, and no.”

“How so?” Freya asked coquettishly.

“If we ignore its growth, and wait until it truly grows large enough to encircle Midgard, becoming the [World Serpent]. Then it would be a giant monster capable of threatening Asgard. But now… it doesn't have the chance.”

Being able to grow to fill a small ocean is Jormungandr's limit in this life.

If even its venom is neutralized, then it will be nothing more than a super-sized loach.

When that time comes, even if Jormungandr wants to rebel, there will be more than just Thor who can kill it.

After sailing on the sea for three days, Thanes returned to Asgard.

In fact, he still wanted to wait and see if there was any news of Hela, the goddess of death. Unfortunately, after the giantess Angrboða gave birth to two doomsday specialists for Loki in a row, her body was a little weak, and her belly had no new movements for the time being.

This made Thanes a little regretful.

This did not prevent him from sending Einherjar to Niflheim, the Land of Mists, to search for traces of the giant wolf Sköll.

After about a month, the Einherjar sent back news, saying they had found it.

“Oh? This is really interesting.”

Niflheim, a cold, damp, and misty land.

It was a place surrounded by mountains.

The wind was like a knife, passing through the cliffs, making ghostly screams.

This wind through the valley was very strong, but the wind did not disperse the clouds and mist. Looking down from the sky, it looked more like the self-flow of cold, icy mist.

In the valley, a black behemoth sped past, its huge claws kicking up tons of sand and rocks with every step. Its appearance dispersed the extremely low-visibility ice fog, and then with an exaggerated pounce, it leaped hundreds of meters away, easily biting a thick fog monster to death.

Just as Sköll was about to eat, its sense of danger made it suddenly raise its head and look at the sky.

It immediately spotted the huge divine eyes in the clouds of the sky.

After a brief moment of astonishment, it endured the pain of the sword piercing the roof of its mouth and let out a deep, threatening roar.

It didn't recognize these eyes, but it could feel a trace of destiny with its extraordinary senses—the owner of these eyes seemed to be related to the god who killed its father and brother!

Sköll, bursting with ferocity, leaped into the sky. This jump was very, very high, probably a hundred meters off the ground. This was quite remarkable for a giant wolf with a shoulder height of ten stories.

Unfortunately, this action was quite ridiculous. Not to mention threatening Thanes, who was far away in Asgard, it couldn't even destroy these magical divine eyes.

In desperation, this stupid wolf actually circled around directly below where the divine eyes were.

“This IQ…” Thanes laughed.

Suddenly, he discovered the benefits of killing Fenrir. Compared to his father, Sköll was at least one level weaker in terms of IQ. Otherwise, the two brothers wouldn't have done the stupid thing of chasing the sun and the moon.

If Thanes had a Choco Pie in his hand, he would have thrown it down to tease this silly dog.

That's right!

Sköll wasn't worthy of being a wolf, only qualified to be a dog.

Unfortunately, it was an untamable vicious dog.

It didn't matter, now that he had found it, Thanes had a hundred ways to deal with it.

A series of flashing runes suddenly descended from the fiery divine eyes in the sky.

Unaware of the truth, Sköll instinctively wanted to avoid these runes, but who knew that these runes seemed to have eyes, and they actually turned nimbly in mid-air, hitting Sköll's neck at a speed faster than Sköll's dodging movements in an instant.

“Awoo!” Sköll only had time to let out a miserable cry of fear before countless runes were branded on its neck, forming a huge black collar.

The collar was connected to the [Gleipnir] curse chain that Odin had left on its neck, tightly clamping Sköll's neck. In the blind spot of Sköll's vision behind its head, the originally drooping curse chain became diagonally pointing to the sky, and at a place it couldn't see, one end of the chain gradually blurred and disappeared.

No one knew that Thanes had grabbed a chain that seemed to have no origin from afar.

The chain above Sköll's head disappeared.

Everything seemed as if nothing had happened. Sköll looked around blankly, finding that nothing had changed, and then hunger drove it to flee the scene, chasing after new prey.

Only Thanes, sitting on the highest throne, laughed: “Is this the wolf calamity? It's a bit ridiculous!”

In fact, when he first transmigrated, Thanes was very seriously worried about the problem of [Ragnarök]. Such a disaster that could wipe out the entire clan at every turn was something that even gods could hardly survive.

When the time came, Thanes realized that this broken thing was terrible, but definitely not as terrible as he had imagined.

After a thorough analysis, 90% was Odin's fault!

In the epic, Odin, for some unknown reason, hardly ever left Asgard in his entire life.

He actually only used two ravens to monitor the vast Nine Realms.

He dumped all the disasters and problems that occurred in the Nine Realms on Thor to deal with.

But no matter how capable Thor was, he was not omnipotent, let alone that there was only one Thor.

Speaking of which, he didn't see Odin sending other sons either.

All said and done, it was still Odin's laziness.

Odin's steps for dealing with the troubles of the Nine Realms were roughly as follows:

First stage: Claim that nothing is happening.

Second stage: Maybe something is happening, but take no action.

Third stage: Maybe we should take action, but we can't do anything.

Fourth stage: Maybe we could have done something in the beginning, but now it's too late.

Odin was the kind of person who stubbornly dragged a trivial matter from the first stage to the fourth stage, and eventually turned it into something irreversible.

Thanes expressed his contempt for this behavior of bringing about his own death and the destruction of his clan.

He was increasingly reluctant to recognize Odin as his foolish younger brother.
