Stupid Odin
#119 - A messed up fate
It's a mess!
Everything's a mess!
Thanos clearly remembers all versions of the Twilight of the Gods' opening.
The movie version where [Odin gave birth to Hela, and because Loki tricked the elderly Odin, Hela was unsealed and jumped out to wreak havoc on Asgard] doesn't count.
That thing has been so heavily modified that it's unrecognizable!
Closer to this Jötunheimr world, whether it's the epic or the prose [Edda], it speaks of the god of light, Baldr, having nightmares, foreseeing his own death.
Odin sought out Hela to inquire, learning that Hela foresaw a noble god joining the underworld.
Then, Queen Frigg, anxious to protect her son, forced Odin to order all living things in the world to swear not to harm Baldr.
As a result, Odin's army forced all living beings to make poisonous oaths, even the incredibly rebellious World Serpent, Jörmungandr, swore, leaving only one very young, newborn creature [Mistletoe].
It couldn't speak and was too small, so the gods forgot about it.
When the gods' poisonous oaths proved miraculously effective, everyone discovered that no matter what attacks they made, they couldn't harm Baldr.
As a result, the gods started throwing weapons at Baldr for fun, and they all bounced back with a clang.
This scene was so magical that more and more gods and giants joined in the game of throwing.
Baldr himself didn't care; all living beings in the world were bound by the divine curse and couldn't hurt him, so what did he have to fear?
Baldr even opened his arms, smiling as he watched everyone throw terrible weapons at him again and again.
It just so happened that Hödr, the god of darkness, who was born blind and couldn't play with the gods, was sulking nearby.
He was encouraged by Loki to throw a handful of grass at Baldr, never expecting that Loki had given Hödr the [Mistletoe] that hadn't sworn an oath.
Hödr was also very strong, and the grass shot into Baldr's throat like a cannonball, killing him.
The Norse gods, loyalty is tied to blood.
In the epic, Baldr and Hödr are full brothers, born of the same father and mother.
This act of fratricide is absolutely unacceptable in the world.
In the end, this can be said to be Loki's bewitchment, or it can be said to be an unfortunate accident of 'fate'.
In fact, the world's will would not have taken away the destiny it bestowed upon Odin if the events described in the epic [Edda] had stopped there.
Because Odin, as the King of the Gods, didn't intervene.
Odin shouldn't have played word games and forcibly cultivated a god of revenge, Vali, who grew into a giant in one day and killed Hödr.
The Aesir gods are most taboo about fratricide!
Odin was playing a game of timing, because a child would be given a cleansing ritual at most one day after birth, wrapped in the father's clothes, representing the father's recognition that this was his child.
Theoretically, Vali hadn't been cleansed yet, so he wasn't Odin's child, and Vali killing Hödr wasn't fratricide.
It can be said that Odin's operation in the epic was very cunning, attempting to deceive the world's will by exploiting loopholes in the law.
Unfortunately, Odin failed.
No amount of sophistry and trickery could deceive true fate.
He destroyed the laws he had helped the world establish, triggering the world's will's anger and backlash, officially kicking off the prelude to the Twilight of the Gods.
That's why Thanos had previously focused all his attention on Baldr.
Now, the confusion lies in the fact that Hela had a dream, but this dream couldn't possibly be related to Baldr, could it?
Could it be half of Baldr?
Thanos tried to ask: "What are the characteristics of those two legs? For example, some kind of natural attribute? Thunder? Fire? Water? Wind?"
"Ice! It's an ice attribute!" Hela replied decisively.
Thanos was stuck again.
He naturally thought of Odin, after all, Odin is the real [Winter] god.
But he wasn't sure.
Many of the Aesir gods have frost giant blood, even Baldr has a quarter frost giant blood!
Thanos and Hela looked at each other, and for a long time, neither of their clever brains could come up with a reliable direction.
Thanos rarely touched his nose: "Think positively, at least there's half left, maybe he's still alive.
Just like Mimir..."
"Pfft!" Hela rarely couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing.
Is Mimir called alive?
But it's not dead!
At least the soul didn't go to Helheim.
Or this is called [As Good as Dead]!
Thanos waited for Hela to finish laughing before saying seriously: "Anyway, this time Mimir's 'death' set a very bad precedent.
When we, the Paulson brothers, reshaped the world, we swore to rule the world with blood ties.
If blood relatives do this, they will definitely be retaliated against by [Fate]!"
At the mention of fate, Hela couldn't help but be in awe.
This thing is too mysterious!
Even the gods don't know what the consequences of breaking an oath will be.
Fortunately, Thanos is obviously a very committed God-King.
He promised Loki that he would give him a hand if he could, which is why Hela and Jörmungandr were integrated into the Aesir gods.
Hela will always be grateful to Thanos for this.
She bowed deeply: "Your Majesty! If the situation continues to be serious, it may lead to chaos in the world's laws and bring danger.
Your subject requests Your Majesty to allow Helheim to prepare for war."
"Granted!"
Thanos picked up a piece of dragon skin paper, wrote a secret imperial decree with a swish, swish, swish, and handed it to Hela himself.
The newest novel is at Six/9/Book/Bar/First!
"Act in complete secrecy, and if you can't hide it, you can show my personal imperial decree to that righteous one."
Thanos's address changed, and Hela knew that His Majesty was on official business now.
She bowed respectfully: "As you command!"
Hela withdrew, and the dark clouds between Thanos's eyebrows were still so thick that they couldn't be dispelled.
As a transmigrator, he of course knew that Odin was never a good thing.
This guy is insidious and vicious, good at playing word games, and doesn't admit to doing things, only wanting benefits and not wanting trouble.
Unfortunately, this is the karma that Thanos must bear for joining the Paulson family.
If fratricide is bound to trigger [Twilight of the Gods], then at least it can't be triggered by Thanos.
He can't be involved in this kind of world-class destruction karma in the slightest.
If Odin wants to go crazy, Thanos can't accompany him.
At this thought, Thanos sighed, but also felt a little helpless.
Conflicts and wars, in many cases, spiral upwards.
This is a game of chicken, whoever admits defeat first will not be able to continue playing.
He can't be so saintly that he gives up the God-King's throne.
If he's really that idiotic, then he can wait for all his descendants to be slaughtered.
"My foolish brother! I hope you can be scared."
Thanos summoned Thor.
"My son, your Uncle Odin has recently had a conflict with Loki and is in a bad mood.
His efficiency in dealing with the frost giants in Jotunheim is too low.
Take my warrant, take your people, plus a few Valkyries to help your uncle."
