Strategy to Capture Men
Chapter 70.1
Under the 'protection' of Han Yanyan, little Tang Ke led a smooth life. Only Han Jin and a few of his friends would occasionally say a few mean things to him, or play some childish, harmless-seeming pranks on him.
What really bothered him was Han Yanyan's occasional 'temper'. Sometimes, she would give him the cold shoulder for no reason. The longest time she ignored him for was three days.
Whenever this happened, he would be very confused, and when she just as suddenly resumed being gentle, he would gratefully become more and more obedient.
More and more like a little white rabbit.
In the end, Xinya was not allowed to go out to work. Patriarch Han gave her an art gallery to oversee so that she had something to tell Tang Ke.
Although Xinya was on the older side, Patriarch Han found her quite entertaining. Since she was such a fragile little rabbit, he restrained himself so as not to completely break her.
Time flew. Two years passed by in an instant.
At the age of fourteen, Han Yanyan had her first period, and the second breakthrough Patriarch Han had been waiting for finally arrived. Han Yanyan's second breakthrough drove her straight up to SS-class, and there was a huge stir within the family.
Tang Ke was happy for her, of course, but unexpectedly for him, ever since then Han Yanyan had completely changed her attitude toward him.
After puberty hit, the Eldest Miss suddenly lost interest in cute and lovable Tang Ke, and shifted over to liking dashing, muscular young men.
Little white rabbit Tang Ke fell out of favor, and his whole world changed.
The "friends" who once surrounded him abandoned him overnight. Those who had once passed him by began to step on him, and even in the manor, the servants and maids began to show contempt for him. After all, he never tipped as generously as the other young masters and young ladies.
Those once harmless pranks began to escalate with obvious malice behind them. If it hadn't been for his A-class spirit protecting him, Tang Ke would likely have become disabled on more than one occasion.
But he didn't dare to fight back. The children who hurt him were all from the Han family.
He always healed himself in the treatment cabin at school or in the manor before going home unscathed. To Xinya, he would only tell interesting little tidbits concerning his other schoolmates, while about those other things, about himself, he would say nothing.
Tang Ke became taciturn and silent, but after all he was a boy, so his quietness just made Xinya feel like he was growing up and becoming more mature. Besides, Tang Ke's grades were excellent across the board, and he was a sensible child, which put her at ease.
She, too, tried to project a tranquil front, which made Tang Ke feel like as long as he worked hard, he could make her happy.
Both mother and son tried to convince each other that the years were peaceful and quiet.
In this depressing undercurrent, the only comfort Tang Ke had was the little fairy.
She never showed up, but she always gave a few words of encouragement when he needed them most--
"They hate you because they're jealous that you're better than them."
"What you can't do today will make you stronger tomorrow."
"No matter when, I'll always be here for you, little star."
Tang Ke no longer tried to find out who she was. The girls from the Han family were cold and cruel, and never gave him so much as a second look. She was one of them.
He thought that she must be doing it to protect herself. If they knew that she was on his side, she would be excluded, too.
He understood.
The children were all growing up. Little girls grew into young women and little boys into young men, and the seeds of love began sprouting.
Seventeen-year-old Han Yanyan had grown into a devastating beauty, gorgeous enough to launch a thousand ships, courted and pursued by countless young men.
Thirteen-year-old Tang Ke had completely broken away from his childhood days and become a taciturn teenager. But just like all the other teenagers, whenever Han Yanyan appeared, he couldn't tear his eyes away.
Nowadays when he stared at Han Yanyan, it was no longer like when he was a child. Back then he simply felt that she was beautiful, but now when he looked at her, it produced the strangest sensations within him. His heart beat faster, his body tightened, his throat was dry, and in the deepest part of his body, strange desires emerged.
Tang Ke dared not look too closely at these desires.
Han Yanyan seemed to treat him no differently from the other children. Those special kindnesses and the gentleness of the past vanished as the two of them grew older, as if it had never existed. Now there were only a few people who could make her treat them differently, like Han Wei, Han Jingshan and Han Jun.
Tang Ke was eager to be treated differently just like them, but he didn't know what to do.
Han Jin was bullying him more and more. This brother of Han Yanyan's had been born stupid, and his stupidity only grew with age.
As far as spiritual power went, Tang Ke was already far above him, but he couldn't strike back because Han Jin was Patriarch Han's son, Han Yanyan's brother. His privileged life of today and excellent education at Dongchen was all thanks to the generosity of Patriarch Han.
Once, when Han Jin and a few other A-class fellows were beating him black and blue, Han Yanyan ran across them.
"What are you doing?" she asked coldly. The coercion of an SS-class spirit was terrifying.
Even as stupid as Han Jin was, he was still scared of his sister. None of the others dared to say anything as well.
Was Sister Yanyan here to save him? Tang Ke struggled to raise his head. The blood flowing from his forehead ran into his eyes, and he could only vaguely make out a slender, tall figure.
"Everyone else is working hard, and you're wasting your time on this sort of thing?" she said coldly. "Do you think that you can just coast all your life because you're Father's child? He has so many children that he wouldn't even miss you."
After Han Jin said something in return, Han Yanyan's voice faded away. She was like a sister who hated her little brother for being iron and not steel, who hadn't even glanced at the boy lying on the ground.
Where was that long-ago tenderness, those gentle smiles, stroking his hair and calling him a little rabbit? Had they all been a dream?
Tang Ke passed out. He woke up in the school's treatment cabin, and the cabin supervisor told him, "A girl sent you here."
A girl... Was it Sister Yanyan?
"Of course not," said the supervisor. "How would I not know Eldest Miss Han? It was just a girl. What did she look like? .....hmm, a quiet and refined kind of pretty."
"Oh, yes... she left you a note." The supervisor felt in their pocket and fished out a folded piece of paper.
It seemed to have been hurriedly torn from somewhere, and it was in a handwriting he was familiar with.
"Dark clouds will eventually disperse and once again the stars will shine. You'll journey into the vast sea of stars1, don't stumble on the stones before you."
Tang Ke's eyes felt hot.
It was the little fairy.
Though she hadn't come forward, she was quietly caring for him, supporting him.
For the first time, he wanted to know who she was. He asked the supervisor to check the cameras.
"I can't. I'm not sure what happened with the school's monitoring system just now, but there was a temporary outage," replied the supervisor.
Who the little fairy was remained a mystery.
After school, he sat on the Han family spaceship, right at the back, staring at every girl who came in. The little fairy was one of them. He just didn't know who.
Last of all was a figure he was familiar with. She was taller than average, her waist slender and her back straight.
Tang Ke's eyes rested on her. There's no way it's her, he thought. But just like every time before, the moment she appeared he couldn't drag his eyes away.
"Xiao Ke--" she suddenly called to him, "Come sit in the front."
Tang Ke stiffened slightly, then refused. "It's okay, I'm fine here."
Han Yanyan said nothing. She nodded and sat down by herself.
