StarCraft: Tyranid Empire

Chapter 75 Revelation

The continuous Ouranos Mountains look like a narrow, snow-colored scar when viewed from a low-altitude orbit. The magnificent mountains separate the first and fourth main continental plates on Turasis II. Long rivers originating from glaciers roll across the planet's yellowed surface, nourishing cities, towns, fields and herdsmen's herds.

In September, battles across Turasis ended with victories for the Terran Confederacy. Thanks to the support of the fleet, a large number of aircraft were able to run rampant over the cities and positions of the Kaimorians, forcing them to retreat underground and into the wilderness, and cities gradually returned to the control of the federal army.

The fleet's capital ship monitors geostationary orbit, and any Kaimorian spacecraft that attempts to escape the planet will be shot down the moment it loses gravity. The Terran Federation's ground forces also gradually gained an overwhelming advantage.

The Kaimorians were retreating, and even the towns were back in marine hands—except for the Ouranos Mountains.

The active force of the Hai Gelong Legion is still hiding among the mountains. They have hollowed out several mountains, and their bases even go deep underground. A large number of Hygoron mountain teams are hiding in the valleys, canyons and snow between the mountains, attacking any Tyranid Federation force that dares to enter here.

So far, nearly three hundred Marines and their guides have died here, buried by the continuous wind and snow.

The Zulu outpost is nestled between two peaks on the edge of the Ouranos Mountains, on a seven-mile saddle. There are fourteen connected hills of varying heights on the ridge, with the lowest altitude being less than 300 feet.

Each hill was fortified with Prey steel parapets, bunkers, and barbed wire. Each bunker was connected to trenches and dugouts reinforced by planks of fifteen to twenty feet deep.

This is where the 1st and 5th Battalions of the 4th Brigade of the 33rd Ground Assault Division are stationed. In addition, the number of engineers, radar troops and artillery troops totals more than 1,000. Five miles away from the Zulu outpost, two of the Army's brigades are stationed, and there is a starport that can take off and land close-ground and starfighter aircraft.

There is a silver-gray command center on a high ground on the ridge, and eight anti-aircraft missile towers stand in four different directions around the high-rise building.

Augustus was standing in front of the huge bronze glass window of the command center office, looking at the mountains in the distance. His brown military uniform was neat and smooth as if it had been ironed. The golden vertical bar on his right shoulder showed that he was now a second lieutenant. An electronic clock on the wall showed that the time was now nine o'clock in the morning on September 11th.

It had been nearly a month since Augustus last fought. During this month, his Demons of Heaven acted as an independent force and cleared out the Kemorian sympathizers, anti-federal forces, and a small number of Haigron squads that broke away from the main force in about ten small towns near Howe Fortress. .

The Demon of Heaven did not encounter fierce resistance, and the biggest loss caused by the enemy was that one of them was slightly injured.

In early September, Augustus' immediate superior, Warfield, became the commander of the fifth battalion, and he was promoted again and became a true officer. On September 5, another brother battalion took over Warfield's defense duties, and the 5th Battalion was transferred to the Zulu outpost beyond the Ouranos Mountains.

From what Augustus saw, there were dense coniferous forests growing on the south slope of the ridge, and bare sparse shrubs on the other side. Standing on the ridge and looking in this direction, you could see a Ula valley. A round valley between the mountains of the North Range.

Dense forests grow in the valley, and the seven hundred yards of forest between the ridge and the valley have been cleared by space construction engineering vehicles equipped with chainsaws, clearing out a minefield for laying anti-infantry mines.

A long, semi-frozen river flows out from under the main peak of Uranus, the god of the sky, who towers into the clouds and whose spires seem to surround clouds and storms, with the clang of breaking ice. The peak was so far away from Augustus that he could only see a spire shrouded in mist.

Augustus looked at this picturesque world, but he never felt happy because of such a quiet scenery. He didn't like it here. It was far away from solid ground, damp and cold, and those seemingly beautiful glaciers were actually extremely dangerous.

More than here, Augustus missed Keha, who was always warm and pleasant. He was finally tired of the war, tired of fighting one battle after another.

For nearly half a year, Augustus had been killing people. He gradually became numb to it and became accustomed to the war.

But it's finally coming to an end.

Below the command center, federal soldiers in the bunker and trenches were retreating. Engineering vehicles were dismantling the bunker and sending steel plates piece by piece to the transport plane. The barracks and engineering stations soared into the air in the stream of red plasma released by the base thrusters, and the command center under Augustus also rose with a deafening roar.

"Put this on." Warfield, wearing a pair of black goggles, appeared behind Augustus and handed him another pair of goggles of the same style.

"Are you ready to look directly into a rising new sun?" Augustus said, putting on his goggles.

"The explosion point is still far away from us," Warfield said.

Augustus looked as far as he could into the distance, staring at the summit of the main peak of the Ouranos Mountains. He could not see the nuclear bomb that was falling into the atmosphere from synchronous orbit.

If he was close enough to the explosion point, Augustus would be able to see a thin white line, which would split into dozens of even thinner white lines in a few seconds.

An apocalypse-level nuclear bomb is enough to wipe a mountain range off the map.

In an instant, a perfect white light spot lit up in the distance, and then the whole world was lit up. Augustus seemed to be able to hear the scream of the nuclear bomb as it penetrated the atmosphere and the desperate screams of the Hygorons.

A big avalanche started, and hundreds of snow-capped mountains seemed to jump, shaking off the snow on their bodies. Then the extreme light and heat engulfed everything, and the rain clouds were torn apart and thrown into the distance.

Like Odin's wrath, a thunderous sound followed the light.

The command center was as bright as day, and the walls were painted white.

"Ouranos is the origin of the many rivers of Turasis..." Augustus said to Warfield.

"For the Federation, that doesn't matter." Warfield sighed and said: "There are more than 10,000 elite Hygoron Legions in the Ouranos Mountains. It may take a long time to retake it and clear out all the Kaimorians. It will take years, and our soldiers will pay the price exponentially."

"As for cleaning up the contamination and radiation, that is the business of the Turasis and their descendants. What fucking bullshit."

"This... is not what I should worry about." Augustus looked at the gradually dimming world. The ridges, forests and rivers no longer existed. Even the sky changed color, as if the dyes that colored the world had disappeared. Disappeared.

Augustus could not imagine a thousand such nuclear bombs being dropped on Korhal.

"Look, the last piece of pure land has returned to the Federation. Can we take a break, Major?"

"Not yet, kid," Warfield said.

"The order has been issued. We will leave for Meinhof next week. The Kemerian has been ravaging our land and home for a long time. Now, we must launch a counterattack and seize the Kemerian colony!"

"I won't go," said Augustus.

"Before leaving Turasis, you'd better go see your brother." Warfield sighed again.

"He's about to retire, just when we're about to win the war."

"Of course I will go see Arcturus." Augustus nodded.

"Do you know what your brother is going to do? None of our old subordinates can figure it out. He will become a general this year!" Warfield said excitedly.

"I don't know." Augustus turned away.
