[Pride and Prejudice] Wisdom
Chapter 24
Georgiana Darcy received the letter from her brother the next afternoon.
Her mind was already delicate, but after the incident of the year before last, she became more sensitive, so she quickly smelled a different breath from the letter sent by her brother.
Unlike the previous neatly written letter, which seemed to be accurate to what he was doing every second, this one really looked like it was rushed out.
No matter from the handwriting or the narrative content, although Darcy tried hard to conceal this, Georgiana still noticed the difference with sharp eyes.
Her brother - Fitzwilliam Darcy was different from him in the past, it seemed that something different was happening to him.
Georgiana was wondering what happened to her brother in Pemberley, while everyone in Nigerpei Manor was circling around Jane.
Lydia had noticed something was wrong with Jane since the morning. At eight o'clock, she had already got up, packed her things, and sat in the living room expectantly waiting to go home with Jane.
During the period, she also happily replied to Darcy who was reading a book in silence, but occasionally stopped to ask her a question or two.
The two of them sat in this separate space for a while, until Caroline twisted her waist down, but she still didn't see Jane.
This is absolutely impossible!
Lydia had a bad premonition in her heart. Logically speaking, no matter how much Jane overslept, she would not be rude enough to sleep at the master's house for so long. In addition, she used to get up at seven or eight o'clock, and her biological clock would not It's impossible to get this messed up.
She was a little flustered.
Darcy has been paying close attention to her, seeing the expression on her face, and thinking of Miss Bennet who has not appeared yet, he quickly guessed the reason.
He pretended not to care and asked Caroline who was drinking milk in a porcelain cup.
"Did you hear anything as you passed Miss Bennet's room?"
Caroline glanced at Lydia and replied, "Nothing at all."
She felt a little disgusted with the two sisters, and she definitely thought that Jane hadn't come out until now, she must have stayed for a while so that she could stay for lunch.
Fortunately, she used to think that Jane was not bad, but now it seems that she is really a biting dog.
Caroline sneered inwardly.
Lydia heard her answer, and immediately said, "I want to go upstairs to see my sister."
"Then I'll ask the housekeeper to get the key to open the door." Darcy put down the book in his hand and said to her.
Seeing them singing together like this, Caroline suppressed her frustration, forced a smile, and said, "I'm also worried about Jane, let's all go together."
The three of them went to the housekeeper to get the key, and met Bentley who had just returned from the gate.
"Where are you going?" asked Bingley.
"Jane hasn't left the room yet, I'll go see her." Lydia hurriedly replied.
The young man also felt that something was wrong, and immediately went upstairs with them worriedly.
At the door of Jane's room, although Bingley was very anxious to avoid danger, he stopped at the door together with Darcy. Caroline didn't want to see Jane. She wished she could spend more time with Darcy.
So Lydia was the only one left to open the door and go in.
As soon as Lydia was in the room, she made her way to the bed.
Sure enough, there was a person lying on the bed. Lydia relaxed a little and leaned over to look, only to be startled by Jane's blushing face.
It soon became clear that Jane probably was ill.
She first pulled her skirt and ran out to tell Bingley that Jane seemed to have a fever. Bingley was startled, and even more startled by Jane.
"I think you should go to a doctor now." Darcy suggested calmly.
"Well, I think so too." Lydia nodded and agreed with Darcy's words: "Mr. Jones' home is not far from here, you can send someone to invite him over."
Bingley nodded immediately, and ran downstairs to call the butler over. Soon, he heard the sound of a horse.
Lydia re-entered the room to attend to her sister.
She first checked if there was any disheveled clothes on Jane's body, so as not to see anything when the men came in later, and then touched the temperature of her forehead, which was so hot that it was hot.
She first asked the maid next to her to fetch a basin of water for her. When the water came, she put a towel in it, wrung it, and spread it on Jane's head, trying to cool her down a bit.
The maid outside the door came in and said that Mr. Darcy wanted to come in to see Miss Bennet, but he didn't know if it was convenient.
Lydia nodded, and then saw Darcy walking in with steady steps.
Caroline naturally refused to leave for a moment and followed him.
Lydia changed the water again, and the work was done in an orderly manner.
Darcy walked to Lydia's side and looked at Jane's face with concern.
"It doesn't seem too bad. When Dr. Jones arrives, he will probably recover soon." Darcy tried hard not to show his concern.
Lydia smiled at her, even though she was a little panicked and haggard because of her sister's sudden illness, but when she smiled lightly, she felt a little different.
Darcy's eyes froze.
Caroline gritted her silver teeth when she saw this scene, and she really hated the two sisters in her heart.
She stood in front of Darcy, cared a few words to her hypocritically, and told her not to be too tired. These tasks were done by maids, so she really didn't have to do them herself.
Caroline's words were full of intentions to reduce Lydia's status to that of their domestic servant.
Because Jane was ill, Lydia didn't have much energy to choke with her. It's just that when she thought of staying with this self-respecting and noble lady for a few more days, she seemed to be sick, and replied coldly: "How can you use the help of someone for this kind of thing?"
Caroline wanted to refute back, but the words came to her mouth, after much deliberation, she couldn't agree with anything, so she could only give her a disdainful look, and walked out with her head held high.
Darcy bowed his head towards Lydia. After all, Caroline was also his friend's sister. Since Bingley was not there, he felt a little ashamed when he thought of Caroline's rudeness just now, and apologized softly to Lydia.
The two were silent like this, and Darcy felt a little nostalgic for the good atmosphere of breakfast.
On the way, Jane woke up once in a daze. Lydia fed her some water, and Darcy seemed to remember something and asked her.
"Do you want to write to your family?"
Lydia thought for a while: "Let's talk about it after the doctor comes. I'm afraid my parents will worry."
Darcy agreed.
After a while, the doctor arrived and walked in with Bin. Doctor Jones checked and said to Lydia on the side.
"Miss Bennet is suffering from a bad cold. You have to do your best to help her recover." Then, he prescribed some medicine for Jane, and suggested that Jane stay in bed more.
Everyone nodded, and Bentley gave the medicine to the servants, and told them to bring it over after it was finished.
After doing this, Jane woke up again because of a headache, and forced herself to talk to everyone. Bingley immediately told her to take a good rest, saying that she must rest in the Nizhipei Garden for the next few days, otherwise he would I will definitely feel sorry for such words.
Although Jane was not feeling well, being so cared by her sweetheart made her heart feel sweeter. When she saw Bingley's gentle eyes, she immediately felt a lot better.
Louisa also heard the news of Jane's illness, and when she heard that she woke up, she immediately pulled her sister to take care of her.
Caroline was different from when she faced Lydia's criticism. As soon as she saw Jane, she became calm. She first asked her about her physical condition with concern, and then said that she must take a good rest. The kindness and concern made Jane's impression of them incomparably good.
Next, the two sisters of the Bingley family and Lydia were by her side.
Although she had some headaches, seeing her sister by her side at any rate, Jane felt relieved. She said a few words to Lydia, and fell into a deep sleep unbearably.
After tossing around for noon, everyone went to have lunch together. Lydia helped Jane prepare some light things, and then freed up to write a letter to her family.
The Bennett family exploded when they received the letter.
First, Mrs. Bennet was very anxious when she saw the news of Jane's illness, but she was relieved after seeing the news that there was no serious problem.
And Mr. Bennet, when he heard that his eldest daughter was sick, he immediately said to his wife sarcastically.
"Look, if you want me to tell you, Jane shouldn't have been sent to Niripei in the first place, and you sent her there, how is it going now? If she gets seriously ill later, it must be because you want Let her go after Mr. Bingley!" Mr. Bennet's venomous tongue made Mrs. Bennet fall backwards in anger.
'' Not to mention that she has Lydia beside her who is not helping her. ' continued Mr. Bennet.
Mrs. Bennet was upset: "What's wrong with Lydia? If you want me to say she's not bad anywhere, Jane has her by her side to help, what's wrong?"
The two couples started to quarrel like this. Although Mr. Bennett had a poisonous tongue, his quarrel skills were not as good as that of Mrs. Bennett, a housewife who has been in the market for many years.
Elizabeth was tired of listening to their quarrel, and she was very anxious. She was determined and quickly put forward her ideas.
"I'm going to see Jane."
