[CM] THE CASE
Chapter 42
Evil brings people together. — Aristotle
The young police officer glanced at the detention center and said wordlessly, "Is she here again?"
"Yes." The old man replied indifferently.
"She's so strange!" The newcomer laughed. "Everyone desperately wants to escape, but she desperately wants to get in. What's so good there?"
The senior laughed and said: "She is afraid that the aliens will kidnap her again."
"Aliens? Are you serious?" the newcomer said in disbelief.
"Who knows? She is a crazy woman." The senior said nonchalantly.
Georgia Davis knocked on the table: "Hey, Peter, Clark, should you go on patrol?"
The newcomer was taken aback by the sudden appearance of the sheriff: "Yes, sir."
After dismissing the two gossiping subordinates, Georgia sighed and continued with her work. The adjutant couldn't stand it anymore, and snorted, "You don't need to protect her, George, everyone knows she's a lunatic."
"She didn't hurt anyone," Georgia said.
"But she always occupies the spot in the detention center!"
"It's not getting in our way," Georgia said. "Okay, put me in touch with the FBI's behavioral analysis team. We have a big case."
At the center of their conversation was a woman, a woman with greasy hair and a wrinkled face. She is nearly 50 years old, but she is not as keen on dressing up as women of the same age, trying to catch the tail of youth. She wore a loose cotton skirt and a gray coat that looked like a loose bathrobe.
The detention center is very simple, with three walls and a barbed wire fence, and the chairs were moved in by the police because of her pity.
She sat with her back to the barbed wire fence, her skinny fingers tightly clutching a whistling whistle.
The whistle is brown, about a finger long, and the curved curve is very natural and beautiful, but the feel is very rough, and it has a rough beauty. But the corners are carefully polished round and smooth, not sticky at all.
The much-maligned woman sat quietly in the detention cell.
It seems that when people get older, the facial features will be slowly polished out, especially when they sit there silently, they will show a thick sharpness, even if she is a lunatic.
Sometimes, we call this sharpness vicissitudes.
Gideon put the carton heavily on the conference table.
"Thirteen unsolved cases in the past 30 years." The old man said heavily, "This is just the tip of the iceberg."
Emily couldn't believe it: "30 years? He kept killing people for 30 years?"
"If so, there must be more than thirteen cases," Griffith said calmly.
"The common denominator is dismemberment, missing right ribs and the vicinity of Interstate No. 80." Reid said, "You can inform Garcia to check."
"Dismemberment is the hardest thing to find." JJ said with a headache.
"That's where we start." Hotch pointed to the desert on the monitor. "He never dumped the bodies of two victims in the same place. This is an exception."
"We'll be there right away. JJ, what time is the plane?" Gideon asked.
"In half an hour."
Hotch quickly called off the meeting. This horrific murderer was like nothing they'd ever seen and sent shivers down everyone's spines.
After finishing packing the files, Hotch looked up to find that Gideon hadn't left yet.The old detective stood quietly in front of the monitor, like a stone statue with vicissitudes.
"Jason," Hotch said, "we should go."
"We should go." Reid reached out and gave Griffith a hand. The latter had just washed his face, and the water droplets were still hanging on his face, so he nodded numbly.
But he didn't have any strength, Reid pulled him to lie on top of him, and the little doctor almost vomited blood.
"Why are you so heavy?" Reid gritted his teeth and complained.
"I'm sorry..." Griffith said angrily, "I'll take it easy."
Reid hurriedly explained: "No, I didn't mean that, you...how about I carry you?"
"No, you can't carry me on your back." Griffith stood up staggeringly, and tapped his shoulder lightly, "Thank you."
Reid said in his heart, who can't carry you?I even hugged you.
It's a bit heavy though.
Griffith didn't know what was going on in his mind, and didn't bother to guess.
He had just experienced a vision.
Since his conscious use of hallucinations, Gideon has often given him small lessons, teaching him how to distinguish hallucinations from himself. Griffith experienced two hallucinations, which were not as disgusting as before, and the frequency of nightmares at night has also decreased, and everything is moving in a good direction.
But this time is different.
This time was crueler than any case he had ever been exposed to, and the extreme pain and fear far exceeded what he could bear.If he could catch clues before, now he doesn't even know whether he is dead or alive.
If it wasn't for Reid, he might have just collapsed.
Reid helped him out of the toilet, and Emily saw Griffith's pale face and vain steps, and was so frightened that she couldn't speak clearly: "Oh my god! What's wrong with Griffith, you, you, you?"
Her screams drew Morgan: "What is it?"
"It's okay," Griffith said. "Let's go. Is JJ staying?"
"She stayed to help Garcia sort out the victim's data." Reid replied, "Are you going to stay?"
Griffith shook his head: "No, it's more important for me to go to the scene."
Reid's hand on his shoulder suddenly tightened. Griffith snorted and heard Reid say sternly, "No!"
"Let go, Reid!" Morgan snapped Reid's hand away. Griffith lost his support, and Morgan grabbed him.
Morgan had heard Gideon vaguely mention Griffith's unusualness, but only as an inside secret. In front of the unknown newcomer, he didn't say anything, but told Reid and Emily to pack up quickly, and then took Griffith to rest.
Gideon ran to talk to Griffith for 5 minutes when he heard about it.
"You are too messy." Gideon said, "If you can really feel the victim's psychology through empathy, that emotion must be very negative, and it will affect your mood in the long run. And you can't be very good The illusion of discrimination, you can get stuck in it and never get out."
"I know, sometimes it gets out of hand and I can't help it," Griffith said.
"How did Reid wake you up?"
"He called me and kept shaking me. I felt reality and I broke free."
"Then, make sure there are people around you, and it's best if I'm there. In addition to the regular psychological tests, I'll pay close attention to your mental state, and let me know if there are any emergencies, understand?"
Griffith nodded. "Understood."
"Don't go to the scene this time, go directly to the police station and wait for us."
"Okay, sir."
"Okay, get ready to get on the plane." Gideon stood up and stretched his old bones, "You young people, I don't worry about one or two of you."
Griffith nodded habitually, and finally figured out what was wrong: What do you mean by "you young people"?
But Gideon was already gone, and Griffith didn't have a chance to ask.
Gideon returned to the office, his students were already waiting for him. Reid hadn't been called into the office for a long time, and was very overwhelmed.
Gideon raised his wrist to check the time. "Ten minutes to go, so I'll make a long story short. Reid, Morgan and I reacted to your over-focus on Griffith, or rather, over-protection."
And that's exactly what's been bothering Reid for days.He retorted bitterly: "I don't think it's overprotective, I just care about him."
"This kind of concern came out of nowhere after Elle left." Gideon said patiently, "You can't deny it, Reid, Elle's departure hurt you a lot more than you imagined."
Reid adjusted his sitting position. He leaned back, shifting from a tense posture to defensive resistance.
"Even so, I don't see it as a hindrance."
"Reid, you know this is wrong. Hurt doesn't heal overnight, not sexually, not psychologically. But you need to face it, value it, guard against it, don't let it change you ..."
Reid chimed in, "Like Elle."
"...just like Elle."
"Gideon." Reid grabbed the edge of the chair, "I...I want to ask you a question."
Gideon raised his eyebrows: "Please speak."
"Do you think my concern for Griffith is out of guilt for Elle?"
Gideon smiled. "I don't know."
This is the question that puzzles Reid the most.
Morgan's inadvertent joke was the trigger for Reid to rethink his attitude toward Griffith.
Griffith is a great friend. They shared secrets and did what ordinary friends do.He admired Reid very much, supported Reid's endless talk, and was even willing to ask questions to figure out every word he said.
It's unbelievable that within just a few months of getting along, Griffith's status in Reid's heart has equaled Morgan's, and there is even a tendency to surpass it.
"Probably because Griffith has too many conditions." Reid explained to himself, "Like Morgan, I don't have to worry about it at all, he can handle everything."
But Griffith is different. He looks weaker than himself, withdrawn and withdrawn. But he is willing to stay and fight against the murderer despite the torment of hallucinations, which shows that despite his weak and timid appearance, his heart is strong and firm. That said, Reid's concerns are unfounded.
So why should I worry about him?
The young police officer glanced at the detention center and said wordlessly, "Is she here again?"
"Yes." The old man replied indifferently.
"She's so strange!" The newcomer laughed. "Everyone desperately wants to escape, but she desperately wants to get in. What's so good there?"
