Chapter 27 She and the Captain; It Feels Like, Going to the Guillotine
"You don't like me?" Holly asked back.
"how is this possible!"
"Then let me tell you, what would you do if I wanted to have children?"
Holly's question froze Steve.
Steve stared blankly at Holly. One second, two seconds, three seconds.
Holly looks calmly, even gloatingly, at Steve with a raised eyebrow.
"This... this..." Steve murmured, and after taking a deep breath, he gritted his teeth.
"I think I'm a good choice, if you want... who do you want to conceive a child for. You should also give priority to me, after all... After all, we are legally husband and wife. I have the right to ask you to fulfill your husband and wife obligations."
Holly just watched Steve squeeze out the words like it took all his life's courage.Look, even the roots of the ears are red.
"Oh." Holly nodded, noncommittal, "That makes sense."
Steve frowned in disbelief, "Makes sense? Is that your response?"
Holly glanced at him, without saying a word, began to pack the jam and bread on the bench.
"...What does this mean?" Steve seemed a little panicked.
"Pick up things." Holly glanced at him, with a bewildered expression, "Is there any special meaning for collecting things?"
Steve was completely at a loss for words.
Holly slowly and methodically packed the things they scattered on the bench into bags and put them on Steve's lap, then looked up and smiled at Steve.
"Honey," she asked with a smile, "why are you looking at me with that guillotine look?"
"Is there?" Steve murmured, "Probably because I feel like I'm on the guillotine."
Holly smiled and shook her head, patting Steve's face lightly.
"All necks meet knives," she said, sizing up Steve. "Blond hair, blue eyes, strong build, wisdom, patience, kindness, and courage."
Steve frowned suspiciously and nervously. "I'm not sure if you're complimenting me."
"Of course it is." Holly smiled like a spring breeze.
Then she kissed Steve on the cheek and got up.
"Fine, good genes. I'll think about it," Holly said, turning and walking toward the bus stop.
Steve simply froze.
"...good genes? Are you kidding me?"
"Do you want to follow?"
Taking a deep breath, Steve resignedly picked up the bag and followed Holly.
"I'll keep an eye on one thing in the future," Steve said, before they got on the bus.
"what?"
"When you smile so softly and cutely... absolutely nothing good happens."
Steve doesn't think anything good is going to happen, Holly doesn't think so.Good thing happened! They kissed and confirmed each other's feelings. These are all good things, right?
...Well, maybe she is the only one who thinks these are good things, because Steve obviously didn't receive the same message, and she has no intention of telling Steve directly what the kiss meant.
Holly admits she's up to no good. She wanted to see Steve anxious.
They played outside until evening.Due to the poor law and order in Montmartre at night, and Laura prepared a sumptuous dinner, they returned to the dormitory.
Sam opened the door for them.Seeing Holly hooking Steve's hand, he turned and shouted at the rest of the room.
"The little bird in love is back."
Holly didn't take it seriously, and patted Sam on the shoulder as she passed by.
"I can introduce you to girls, my former colleagues. They are all older than you and can give you a full sense of security and maternal love."
"Thank you." Sam rolled his eyes.
Steve has a weird expression on his face.Holly guessed he was still struggling with the kiss.He stared at her all through dinner, hesitating to speak.
"What good did you do?" Wanda asked softly. Before Holly scoops up the soup. She sat next to Holly.
"Your tone doesn't sound like you're concerned, but like a curious crowd watching." Holly replied flatly, scooping up a bowl of soup.
"Okay, I'm curious. But, everyone can see that something is wrong with Steve! You must be the murderer."
"Judge, I did not kill."
"You just broke some boy's heart?"
Holly swallowed the soup and glanced at Wanda.
Wanda stared at Holly excitedly, gossiping all over her face.
Holly smiled and glanced at the other people on the table without any trace.
Everyone is chatting, eating, or checking their phones, and no one seems to be paying attention.
"Honey, you seem to be looking forward to seeing if Steve is sad."
"Cut it out, Holly. Please. I want to know."
"Oh." Holly nodded. "It's easy. Let's kiss."
"……Then?"
"There is no after. Why is there a need for a after?"
Wanda was speechless.
Now everyone knows why Steve is so entangled.Holly's attitude is not salty, not talkative, lukewarm, and with Steve's EQ, he must be clueless.
"It's a match." Natasha once whispered to James in James' ear, "Your brother met a woman who is more difficult than him. Are you sure you don't want to help him out of this difficult situation?"
James glanced at Natasha and raised his eyebrows, "Honey, I think you seem to appreciate this soap opera."
"No way. I've always helped Steve."
"Are you sure? What did you help?"
"secret."
What exactly Natasha did, I am afraid that only she and Holly know it well.Steve sat through dinner with some anxiety, watching Holly discuss with the others what to do and where to go tomorrow.
"Why don't we go to Emmanuel Arcade tomorrow?"
"good idea."
It was Natasha who proposed, and Wanda seconded.Laura and Betty were also dragged away. The girls are going shopping.
"Holly? You're not coming?"
"Go." Holly agreed bluntly, "And I was thinking, tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow, we will hold a Renoir-themed party ourselves."
Even Tony was interested in the idea.Tony loves parties, and even though he doesn't feel much for Renoir, Pepper will.
"Great idea." Tony joined the girls. "Pepper is probably arriving tomorrow night. Why don't we hold it the afternoon after tomorrow."
"Then we need to prepare the costumes." Wanda looked at the others.
"You are in charge of playing, and I will ask someone to prepare for the rest. No one is allowed to talk about it, and I want to give Little Pepper a surprise." Tony said, turning to make a phone call.
Holly laughed and discussed costumes with Wanda and Betty as they sat on the couch.Steve is leaning against a kitchen post, watching Holly, his arms folded, his expression focused.
James leans in, standing to Steve's left.
"What do you think she's thinking?" Steve asked.
James raised his eyebrows and shrugged, "Probably waiting for you to say you love her. I guess."
Steve glanced at James and frowned slightly.
"Don't waste any more time doubting. I love you with a kiss, can't it be done?"
"That's what I think, and I think she feels the same way about me, but, sometimes I'm not sure..."
"Come on! You're all married, and she still runs away?"
That's the whole point of the question. They were married, but not in a relationship. At first Steve thought there was, then Holly told him they didn't.So, now Steve is not sure what kind of relationship they are in.
"This is the gap of the times." Sam expressed his thoughts.
"Yes, it should be." Peter nodded in agreement.
Steve and James turned their heads at the same time to look at the two people who didn't know when they stood behind them.
Then James, Sam, and Peter looked at Steve at the same time.full of mercy.
"Don't say that." Steve raised his alarm.
"Okay, let's not talk." James nodded understandingly, and then patted Steve on the shoulder.
"Take care of yourself."
"........."
Steve was left hanging by Holly for a day like this.Holly went shopping with other girls, and the group of women didn't come back until almost midnight.
Steve listened to the footsteps coming from the corridor in the room, he was relieved first, and he was a little angry when he heard Holly saying good night to Wanda and Natasha. He sat on the sofa and turned on the table lamp.
Holly came in with a bunch of bags, and was taken aback by Steve.
"I thought you were asleep." Holly smiled immediately.
Steve glanced at Holly and called out the time. "01:30 AM. Stores are closed early. Where are you going?"
"We went to the second-hand market, chatted in the tavern, went to the painter's village, near the Sacred Heart Church..."
"Are you going to Montmartre at night?"
Holly put down the bag slowly, watching Steve cautiously.
"Steve."
"Yeah, I'm mad. Mad at you."
This sentence made Holly feel guilty. She stopped by the door, looking at Steve on the couch.Steve's face was heavy, and the clock behind him showed the time was one forty-eight in the morning.
"Montmartre is not safe. I've told you many times," Steve said.
"Sorry." Holly bowed her head.
"You lack the concept of crisis. Have you ever thought that you might be in danger?" Steve continued.
"Sorry." Holly apologized again.
"You five women, only Natasha has received professional training. Have you ever thought about how you should respond when danger occurs?"
"Is that right..." Holly frowned, and finally couldn't help but reply, "We have Wanda."
"Wanda is still a child! She just joined the Avengers and is still in training. She has never been on a mission!"
Steve turned up the volume.Holly was also a little dissatisfied. She walked over, pointed out the door, and protested.
"Betty can shoot, Natasha is good enough, Wanda has chaos magic. Even Clint doesn't worry about Laura, why are you so fierce!"
"Because I'm afraid of losing you!" Steve whispered, gritting his teeth, "You are so vulnerable, you need to be protected, and you are the target of so many enemies, if the Syndicate came, would they give their lives to protect you? You don't understand how scared I am!"
"how is this possible!"
"Then let me tell you, what would you do if I wanted to have children?"
Holly's question froze Steve.
