[Snowman] falling

Chapter 3 The Abyss of 2004

2004 11 Month 2 Day.

Alice Li was sitting at her newly assigned desk, observing the new boss who came in through the outer door.

He looked like he was in pain after a hangover, not at all like the detective in the rumors, but like a poor man frustrated in love.

Alice has been in the police for several years and is a very keen detective. She guessed that her new boss didn't need too much attention at the moment, so she turned her head away from him.

At the morning meeting, current SWAT Captain Gunner Hagen introduced her and another new officer, Katrina Bright.

"Alice Lee." Hagen said.

Alice stood up from her seat and smiled politely.

Hagen read some of her bio, let her go, and turned to Katrina.

Katrina Bright.Alice had heard of Brett from the Sex Crimes Unit of the Bergen Police Department—because of her excellence.

Alice squinted her eyes, suddenly looking forward to working with her.

2004 11 Month 3 Day.

Alice looks at the half-thawed snowman in front of the missing Betty Baker's house.

The Yeti always reminded her of Mathias, and so did Bergen.

She shook her head, followed Harry Holler and Katrina into the house on the gravel road.

There were no clues, and it was as if Betty Baker had disappeared out of thin air.

Alice lowered her head, looked at the snowman again through the window, and suddenly had a bad feeling.

This unexplained feeling made her want to vomit, but Alice knew that her stomach was empty, and at most she could only run to retch.

She trotted up to the snowman and reached out to push its head off.

The snow hit the ground, and the ice crystals remained on her fingertips, which melted in a short while.

Alice pushed it's body again, and planed the ball with her hands.

Then she saw what she wanted: a red and silver Nokia phone.

She smiled, went back into the house, and handed the phone to Harry.

"Oh," said Mr. Baker, "it's her cell phone."

Alice never expected to see Mathias again so soon.

He opened the window of his old Honda Accord and smiled at her.

Then he got out of the car and stood in front of her.

He was the same, thought Alice, and hardly changed.

She wanted to find something to talk about, but regrettably found that they had nothing to say at the moment.

Finally, she sighed, "Mum called to tell you I was in Oslo?"

"She's worried about you, Alice."

Alice frowned, "I have the ability to take care of myself."

Mathias showed a displeased expression, "Insomnia," he said, "and a severe headache."

"God, why is she talking about everything?" Alice complained a few times, bit her lips, and couldn't utter any rebuttal words.

"Why don't you go to accompany your girlfriend?" Alice quickly changed the subject, but her expression changed as soon as she said this.

This was too targeted a sentence, and Alice regretted it so much that she almost wanted to die.

How, how could she say such a thing? !

As if she was still 17 years old, she didn't need to think about anything, just took his hand and walked forward.

"In short, I don't need you to take care of my affairs."

The girl finally chose to break the jar.

Mathias did not show any displeasure.

"You don't need to worry about Carol," he said.

"I didn't care!"

As soon as he finished speaking, she saw him raise his eyebrows.

Alice rubbed her forehead in frustration, and suddenly thought of something.

"Don't need to care about Carol?" She opened her mouth, "Are you using her?"

There is no doubt that Alice knew Mathias.

Mathias might seem like a nice guy, but alas, he wasn't—at least not in some ways.

Alice has known him for ten years this year, and she is sure that no one in the world knows Matthias better than herself, and vice versa.Except, of course, Stephanie.

Mathias didn't speak, but his slightly raised mouth had already told Alice the answer.

"Oh," she clicked her tongue, "poor woman."

Mathias couldn't deny it.

"Tell me, sir." Alice cleared her throat. "What are you going to get from her?"

Mathias looked at her for a moment, then shook his head, obviously refusing to answer.

"It's strange," said Alice, "that you seldom keep things from me."

Mathia smiled, "Okay, I've made a reservation for the restaurant, do you want to go?"

This is a question sentence with a fixed answer.

Alice nodded, "Of course!"

Alice took Mathia and walked slowly down the street.

The street lamps were on, making the moon dim.

It was white all around, but the snow had stopped.

Alice looked at Mathias and then at the street lights, feeling that this scene seemed familiar.

"Actually, I thought about getting married," said Alice. "I got married right after college."

Mathias listened quietly.

"But then I figured it out. I don't need a ring—a marriage to bind you." Alice smiled and narrowed her eyes to stare at the moon. "This is a stupid way."

"You've always known me, Alice," said Mathias softly.

"So you must me." Alice raised her eyebrows.

This girl has always been restrained, and she rarely exaggerates.

Mathias laughed too.

This is silent recognition.

Slightly dazed, Mathias shifted his gaze to the dazzling Bergen landmark - the Holmenkollen ski jump, and then smiled at Alice.

He said: "Among us, one day, one of us will choose to fall."

Alice showed a thoughtful expression, "Then before that, can you sing a song for me?"

God knows how long she has been curious about this!

2004 11 Month 10 Day.

Alice stood quietly in the snow, with the teaching building of the Gusta Mental Hospital behind her.

She was cold all over, but it was rare that she didn't wear a scarf.

snowman.

snowman.

Yeti with black pebble eyes.

Her shoulders shrugged as if she was laughing, but she wasn't.

When Mathias saw her, the girl's cheeks were already red with cold.

He was wearing a white robe and had obviously just finished a get out of class - he was a full-time lecturer in the anatomy department.

"Matia," she said, in a very low voice, "do you remember that Christmas?"

"I remember," he replied.

She knew he remembered.

Alice laughed, and then she met his eyes.

"Next year, no, not only next year, every year in the future, we don't play on swings or make snowmen, I want to spend Christmas Eve with you and mother again. What do you think of this idea, gentlemen?"

"You see, I'm not a qualified detective. I can't arrest you. I can only watch you standing beside me."

"How much do you know?" Mathias asked.

His face didn't change at all, neither shocked nor angry, and there was even a little smile in his eyes.

"Katrina and I checked similar cases in the past ten years. You should know that they always died on the day of the first snow, and there was always a snowman beside them—Madia, you don't have to hide it from me, I Quite clearly, you can't kill me." She smiled, "Because you love me."

Silence spread.

"You messed up my plan, Alice." The man confessed suddenly, "You always act like this."

Alice raised an eyebrow.

She knew it was a good start.

"Where did Harry find out?"

"Mode." Alice was stunned for a moment, "You call him Harry? Do you know him?"

Mathias blinked, which made him playful, "Obviously, yes—he's Carol's ex-boyfriend."

"God." Alice frowned, "You're crazy."

He was using Carol to get close to her boss, Harry Holler, and apparently he had succeeded, and Harry still had fond memories of Carol.

"Alice?" someone called her from behind.

Alice turned her head to see Katrina and Harry walking towards them.

"Harry asked me to meet here." Mathias did not hide this.

Alice was almost mad at him.

He actually went to provoke Detective Harry Holle, and she still wanted to be with him for many years!

Alice gave Mathias a sneaky look, and folded her arms as she waited for Katrina and Harry to come to them.

"You know each other?" Harry glanced at them suspiciously.

"Yeah." Alice nodded casually, "Old acquaintance."

This discovery obviously exceeded Harry's expectations, but he didn't care much about it, and instead talked to Mathias about Caroline.

They chatted and walked indoors, and Katrina asked her softly, "Are you okay?"

Alice doesn't understand.

"You look bad."

Alice sighed, and then made up a half-truth and half-false lie, "When you find out that the ex-boyfriend you never forget is about to get married, you will have my face, Katrina."

Katrina gave her a rather pitiful look.

"We broke up peacefully, because we have to separate the two places for work reasons."

This is the truth.

Alice and Mathias were indeed separated for several years because of work reasons.

She couldn't stop him from going to Oslo to develop, and likewise, he couldn't stop her from becoming a policeman.

In this regard, they are evenly matched.

Harry and Mathias' conversation reached Alice's ears, and they were talking about Friesen, Harry's schoolmate with whom they had worked together for a long time.

It seemed that Harry was suspicious of him.

Alice couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

In fact, the favoritism towards Mathias has already exceeded Alice's professional ethics, but she cannot give up on him.

Alice loved him, and not just him.

He is her relative, a part of her life, and her salvation. In every sense, Alice cannot do without him.

This is actually a tragic thing.

Because no one can think of the ending—and no one wants to.

Harry Holler never expected that his new subordinate, Alice Lee, who looked gentle but also strong, was actually Mathias' "ex-girlfriend".

Harry couldn't help but get a headache when Friesen talked about it.It was as if a hangover had returned.

They don't look like the same kind of people at all-fate is magical. According to Ferrison, although Alice and Mathia never regarded themselves as lovers, they have always been close.

Just when everyone thought they would get married, the two broke up again in a decisive gesture, and they were separated from each other.

Friesen is obviously interpreting the matter as a magical story. After all, "Saint Mathias" is hopelessly weak emotionally. Shocked by the indescribable tacit understanding between the two.

"Honestly, they looked like a match made in heaven," Friesen said.

Harry shrugged his shoulders as he thought of the couple talking in front of the teaching building at the Gustav Asylum, and of his resurgence from Carol's one-night fling.

"The world is crazy," Harry had to think.

Holmenkollen Ski Jump.

Mathias stood on the platform with her in his arms.

"Can you look straight at the cliff now?" he asked.

Alice laughed lowly, "So you remember."

"I'm just thinking about the future." Mathias looked at the abyss under his feet without sighing, "This is where I will die—I am unwilling to die of disease."

"I understand you, Mathias." Alice struggled to open her eyes and looked forward, "What is the disease?"

"Raynaud's syndrome and scleroderma." Mathias smiled slightly.

Alice tilted her head suspiciously.

"It's a genetic disease that causes the body's connective tissue to harden," Mathias explained. "Raynaud's syndrome causes the fingers and toes to turn cold and white, and in scleroderma, the thickened connective tissue causes the skin to tighten and the skin shrinks." It becomes smoother and the wrinkles disappear. The tighter skin starts to impede the expression of the face, making the face less expressive, as if the face gradually hardens and becomes a mask. After a while, your hands and your arms will It becomes bent and you can't straighten. You end up standing there, unable to move, slowly choking on your own skin."

"It's all started, hasn't it?"

"It started long ago—before we met."

Alice thought she was crying, and in fact she was crying.Mathias gently wiped away her tears, and wrapped her slightly loose scarf around her.

"So you don't want to be with me, you don't want to marry me, we can't have children, because this is a damned genetic disease." Alice hugged him even harder, "How on earth did you accept all this?"

"I didn't accept it." Mathias said softly, "I know I'm crazy, and now, it's time for me to die."

Alice wanted to say don't die, but she couldn't speak.

This is the burial place chosen by Mathias and the time of his death. He is full of sins and diseases that cannot be cured and can only bring despair.

This is a doomed tragedy.

Finally, she opened her mouth.

"You don't have to kill yourself." She found her voice again, "I have a gun, I'll kill you."

He said, "Okay."

Alice Lee is missing.

The long hours of contemplation and investigation exhausted Harry physically and mentally.

The snowman is Mathias.

He was played around by him!The murderer is by his side!

"A tribute to life."

It says so on the note.

This note was placed on Alice Lee's desk, and Harry recognized it as Mathias' handwriting at a glance.

Holmenkollen Ski Jump, Harry knew he had to go there to find Alice.

"When my life's work is done and I'm too sick to live anymore, I take the lift up to the ski jump on that mountain."

"Then I'd jump down, without the skis on, right off the jump."

"A 40-meter free fall, and it's over in a few seconds."

This was what Mathias told him during one of their conversations.

He knows he will remember.

2004 11 Month 23 Day.

The doctor said: "Among us, one day, one of us will choose to fall."

Alice listened quietly.

A moment later, she asked, "Can you sing a song for me?"

"Good." He bowed his head and kissed her forehead, "good tidings for christmasanda happy newyear."

He only sang this line and stopped singing.

Alice bit her lip and smiled.

"I'm so happy." She said, snowflakes seemed to float into her eyes, and when she blinked a few times, the snow melted and turned into tears, making her eyes moist.

"Today is November 11rd, and this is our Christmas—it doesn't matter if mom isn't here, even if it's earlier."

The doctor is laughing too.

He held her hand and led the girl to pull the trigger with his index finger.

"Happy holidays," he said.

Harry boarded the elevator, feeling dizzy from the ascent.

Holmenkollen ski jump in the early morning, two people embracing each other.

A cop and a lunatic, what a perfect match.

Then the gunshots rang out.

"Bang" sound.

The girl watched the man covered in blood fall into the abyss.

She didn't cry or smile, and she wasn't sad.

Just watch quietly.

What dripped from the fingertips was fresh blood that had already cooled down.

ten months later.

The detective came to see her off.

"I mean, what are your future plans?"

Alice raised her eyebrows, "Be a police detective."

"Shooting doesn't taste good," Detective Holler said. "Have you got over your fear?"

Alice shrugged. "I've never had a fear of guns, sir."

"No." Harry met her eyes, "I think you know what I mean, Alice."

"The abyss?"

"The abyss." The detective emphasized.

"Matia is dead, Harry." Alice smiled slightly. "I live by his fall."

The detective froze.

"In my eyes, that's him flying - you know, I love him."

"Stupid feelings," replied the detective.

Alice laughed, looking very happy, "Yes, very stupid!"

The author has something to say:

Thanks for reading.

To me, this is the best ending for them.
