Harriet Potter
Chapter 7
Despite being required to clear my mind every night, my second Occlumency session went nowhere, the only improvement being that I had only one panic attack the third time I relived Sirius' final scene.I had a terrible headache when it was over, but luckily it was my whole head and not the scar on my forehead.
Immediately afterwards, my first challenge after becoming the Quidditch captain came. On Monday, I asked Professor McGonagall to sign a note to use the field, so that the Slytherin team would not take advantage of Snape's name to grab the field again.A light cloud came in on Friday, and what I saw when I opened the curtains in the morning confirmed my fears: it was drizzling outside, and it became foggy and chilly.
"The weather is not so nice, is it?" Parvati said, somewhat surprised by her initiative.
"Yes." I said.
"So, um, will Quidditch trials start on time?"
"I think so."
An awkward silence hung between the two of us for a while, Parvati looked more and more embarrassed, as if he couldn’t make up his mind whether to walk away, so I had nothing to say: “There are a lot of applicants, and the selection will probably take a while.” In the morning."
"Yeah," Parvati was obviously relieved, "I was thinking, after the selection is over, maybe you want to get together with us? Joe ordered this season's new product from Honeydukes..."
I vaguely remember that Jonathan Baker is Parvati's current boyfriend, "Is he going to try out too?"
"No! We just wanted to have a party, in the Room of Requirement," Parvati explained, "We invited Ginny, Hermione, Dean and Neville, and some other DA members, and we wanted to get everyone together Let's get together, you know, eat something, talk about what's going on..."
"I have other things to do after the selection," I said.
"The party is after dinner, maybe you can..."
"I haven't finished my homework, and I don't have much to say about my 'recent'."
Parvati stopped abruptly, as if I had slapped her, and her eyes filled with tears.
"Okay," she choked out angrily, "guess what? I'm not interested! Just save your world, you arrogant…"
She turned around and left in a hurry, grabbing the school robe on the bed next to her and wiping her tears, she slammed the door of the dormitory behind her with a bang.Hermione watched in bewilderment, she had just come out of the bathroom and was pushed aside by Parvati.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
I relayed the conversation truthfully, during which Hermione's face darkened a little bit, which made me even more uneasy.
"Her parents felt that the school was not safe enough and wanted her and Padma to drop out. Heloise Midgen was picked up by her father last night, and Parvati also received a letter saying that the Patils were negotiating the matter with Professor McGonagall. So she and Lavender want to have a farewell party." She watched my expression change and paused, "You shouldn't have done this to her."
"She... didn't say that."
"In fact, she's been talking about it these days, and she cried a lot in the dormitory." Hermione said, "and you didn't give her a chance to explain. You suspected that she wanted to help Baker in the selection Cheating, and then asserting that they were trying to get information from you, what did she say?"
"What else can I think?" I argued, "She, and Lavender, when did they get close to me for other purposes? They probably forgot how they got out of me and went out to make me It’s a rumor, I haven’t forgotten it!”
"That was before, they changed after what happened to Umbridge last year. There were a few times you went to DA with gauze wrapped around your hands and they came to me later asking about your injuries, I think they were I really care about you. After the Ministry of Magic incident, Parvati visited me at the school hospital a few times, and she said that she admired you very much and hoped to fight with us at that time."
"Who wouldn't want to be part of such a great adventure?" I blurted out.
"Harry!" Hermione began to lose patience, "Dumbledore and Death Eaters are not the only things in this world, and fighting Voldemort is not the only thing to do! Besides that, you don't care about other things anymore, you You spent so much time thinking about the possibility that Malfoy might be helping the mysterious person, but you didn't even notice that your roommate might drop out of school! You always feel that you are fighting alone, have you ever thought that this may be because you really Too difficult to approach?"
I didn't say a word, Hermione seemed to regret what I said just now, and slowed down her tone.
"Let's go have breakfast. I want to see Hagrid this afternoon. We'll go back to the castle early to have dinner with Parvati and the others. You can apologize to her then."
After finishing speaking, Hermione walked towards the door of the dormitory. When she opened the door, she realized that I hadn't followed, so she stopped. I met her questioning expression, and finally couldn't hold back the words stuck in my chest.
"For this, she can get an apology."
"what?"
"They've treated me like a monster since first year, pointing fingers at me like visiting a zoo, they can add fuel to the rumors that I'm the heir to Slytherin, and they'll make a big deal out of my relationship with any boy who's said two or more words Gossip, claiming to have seen me fake my age and throw a note into the Goblet of Fire. All of a sudden, bang! They decide I'm good enough to join the small team! Then I have to apologize to her for not wanting to go to some stupid party, just Because it's damn important!"
"Harry, this isn't..."
"When did I ever get an apology, huh?" My voice was getting louder, "Because I enjoyed being worshiped so much for the thing that killed my parents, got so involved with basilisks, dragons, Mermaids and Voldemort battles, my life is so glorious that I don't deserve it!"
"That's not mine..."
"I'm sorry I didn't pay attention to who had to be trapped with their parents, satisfied? I'm sorry I didn't have time to make friends when I was busy trying to keep myself alive. I'm sorry I was too wary of possible dangers in school Because you don't have time to worry about it, I'm sorry I want to bring down Voldemort just to make my parents whine about the new Honeydukes candy for everyone - because I'll never get that chance!"
"I'm sorry!" Hermione walked back to me quickly, looking aggrieved and panicked, as if pouring cold water on my anger. "I'm sorry, Harry! That wasn't my intention!"
"Why would I try to get close to them?" I was still panting, trying not to choke myself. "In order to ruin their lives like I did to you and Ron? To have more Cedric and Sirius?"
Afterwards I only mentioned Cedric's name in outbursts, Hermione's eyes filled with tears, her arms raised and lowered in bewilderment, and I hugged my arms even tighter against my chest.
"You never ruined my life or Ron's, and you wouldn't do that to anyone. You saved Ron and me many times, and Ginny and Mr. Weasley."
"Being petrified, nearly bitten by a werewolf, almost dead, and spending the rest of the day worrying about a friend dying, is that part of your campus life plan? What do you expect when you receive your Hogwarts acceptance letter?" Is this the kind of life you want? Can you tell me it has nothing to do with me, Hermione?"
I kind of wish she'd said yes, Ron would have done it without thinking, and if Hermione did it at least partly had to be true.
She hesitated. "It wasn't your fault, Harry. Never."
"And that," I squeezed past her, toward the bathroom, "never mattered."
Before I turned on the tap, I realized how stupid my tirade was. The whole wizarding world's opinion of me has changed as quickly as the weather since I started school. Ron and Hermione are the only people who have always stood by my side.I should have learned that letting my anger go would not make anything easier, it would only hurt those who least deserved it, and make me more frustrated and depressed later on as I lost control of myself.
The table was full when I got down to the Great Hall, and Ron was poking the fried egg into too small pieces with a fork as he always did when he was nervous, and Hermione was drinking pumpkin juice and reading the newspaper as usual.I hesitated to take the seat next to Hermione's schoolbag, and she casually chatted about Stan Thornpark's arrest, much to my relief.
"It looks like he's trying to show off that he knows a lot," said Ron. "Didn't he brag that he was going to be the Minister of Magic when he tried to get close to those veela?"
"Yeah, that's him," I continued, though it was clear what was going on. "I don't understand what they're up to to take Stan seriously."
"Probably to let everyone see what they're doing," said Hermione, frowning. "People are panicking now—by the way, Harry, you have a package."
Confused, I opened the paper package that Hermione pushed over, and found that it was a brand new "Advanced Potion Making".
"Now you can give back that messy scribbled textbook," she said happily.
"Are you crazy?" I raised my eyebrows at her. "I'm going to keep it! Look, I've thought about it—"
Hermione watched in shock as I swapped the covers of two books, and then turned into a look of anger and dissatisfaction, which I didn't really care about, she has always had a low tolerance for others being better at something than she is Terrible.
I figured I'd at least get to the stadium before most of the crowd, so I ate a quick breakfast and walked out of the auditorium with them.As the course approached, Ron's words became less and less, so I sincerely hope that most people will choose not to come because of the weather conditions.
On the way, we met Lavender and Parvati head-on. They gathered together and whispered sadly. When they found us, Parvati turned her face away resolutely, and Lavender gave me a hard look.I walked past them and realized that I really didn't care much what they said about me.
