Chapter 75 Attacked
After being locked up for a month of "lockdown", Harry became more irritable than ever. His energy with nowhere to vent and his brain being invaded by Voldemort from time to time made him have to find something to do to divert his attention.
"Go to Godric's Hollow, I've wanted to go there for a long time." Harry said firmly.
Esther didn't speak, but agreed in her heart. She also wanted to go back and see if Dumbledore was back.
Hermione was a little nervous, "But, Harry, the mysterious man must have figured out where you're going, and the search outside is so tight now—"
"It won't be safer to wait, unless someone else kills Volt for us, I mean You-Know-Who." Harry saw Esther's condemning gaze, and quickly changed his words.
"Well, Harry, if you insist on going...to be honest, I want to go there too." Hermione compromised.
"You want to go to Godric's Hollow too?" Harry was a little surprised.
"Yeah, I've been thinking about it for a while. I think when Dumbledore left you that Gryffindor sword, he must have thought that the Ministry of Magic would not really follow the will. After all, he has such dealings with the Ministry of Magic. He has known them for many years. So I think his intention may not be to give you the sword, but to hint at places related to the sword, such as Godric's Hollow."
"Is there any connection between them?" Harry looked at Hermione suspiciously.
"Harry! The sword of Gryffindor belonged to Godric Gryffindor, the founder of our house, and he was born in Godric's Hollow! That's why the village is named after him. Don't you ever Have you read A History of Magic?"
"Who needs to see that when you're around?" Ron and Harry said, smiling at each other.
Hermione lost her momentum, her face flushed slightly.
"Bathilda Bagshot, the author of A History of Magic, lives there too. Aunt Muriel said it at Bill's wedding. And Dumbledore—" Harry sank suddenly.
"Harry—" Hermione approached Harry and patted him on the shoulder, "Since we're going, we must make adequate preparations. The Invisibility Cloak can't fit the four of us, so we need to use the Disillusionment Charm and Polyjuice Potion .Enough Polyjuice Potion, and get someone else's hair..."
For the next week, several people took turns going out to practice Apparation while wearing the Invisibility Cloak, stealing hair from Muggles, and asking outside news by the way.
From old newspapers they collected, they learned that Snape became the headmaster of Hogwarts, and that the Death Eaters Carrow and his sister took over the two courses of Defense Against the Dark Arts and Muggle Studies respectively. The three of Harry angrily accused Snape of his despicable behavior, while Esther was more worried about whether Snape could protect the safety of the Hogwarts teachers and students under the eyes of the two Death Eaters.
She really wanted to learn about Snape's recent situation through Phineas' portrait. But Hermione cut her off.Hermione, who has always been considerate, learned that Snape had taken over the headmaster's office, and resolutely stuffed Phineas's portrait into her beaded pouch to prevent Snape from getting their news. This made Esther angry and helpless.Although she didn't say it clearly, she cooked boiled mushrooms for Harry and the others for two days in a row to vent her grievances.
After everything was ready, they chose a not so clear night to set off.Three of the four are wanted, and one should be bedridden at the Burrow. Such a combination is really not suitable for blatantly traveling in the daytime. They all drank a lot of Polyjuice Potion, used the Disillusionment Charm, and walked up to the steps wrapped in invisibility cloaks. Esther led everyone to apparate to the hillside outside Godric's Hollow.
Esther looked at the house on the hillside from a distance, but it was still dark. She was a little disappointed that Dumbledore hadn't come back yet.
She took them with ease to the Potter family's monument, and Harry stood there admiring it for a long time, until Hermione urged him to leave.Harry and his friends entered the cemetery, Esther pointed out the location of the tombstone to them and stayed on the perimeter to patrol.
After a long time, Hermione suddenly called everyone over and pointed to another tombstone and said, "Look at this symbol, it's the symbol on the book left by Dumbledore."
Esther carefully identified the extremely old and weathered tombstone, and there was indeed a triangular symbol. She struggled to read the name on the tombstone: Ignotus Peverell.Peverell, she felt a stir.
"Krum said it was Grindelwald's logo," said Harry.
"It doesn't look like it. Obviously this tombstone is much older than Grindelwald. And this surname has long since disappeared." Est said.
"Then what does it represent? Why did Viktor say it is the symbol of Grindelwald?" Hermione asked.
"Do we have to stand here to discuss?" Ron looked around, "I always feel that this is not safe, do you still go to your parents' house?"
Harry nodded slightly and put the cloak back on.Esther led them out of the village. She can probably guess that the wizard will not choose the very center of the village, but she is not sure exactly where. As she walked and searched, she was worried that the Death Eaters would suddenly appear. When she was about to come to the end of the trembling all the way, a black shadow suddenly made her clear the direction. She quickened her pace.
The ruins that have been buried by the waist-deep grass are very conspicuous. The room on the right side of the top floor has collapsed, it should be the place where the spell rebounded, where Snape was heartbroken, where Harry was forced to become a Horcrux... Esther felt a throbbing pain in his heart.
"Oh, Harry, look!" cried Hermione softly.
Esther followed the voice and saw a wooden sign written with gold coming out of the weeds. It says:
1981 year 10 month 31 day,
Lily and James Potter died here.
Their son Harry is the only wizard to survive the Killing Curse.
The house, invisible to Muggles, was preserved as a ruin to honor the Potters and serve as a reminder of the violence that tore their family apart.
Next to these neat handwritings, there are all kinds of inscriptions written with never-fading ink, some left names, some just initials, and some wrote messages of blessings. The words accumulated over the past 16 years are shining in the dark night.
"They shouldn't be on the sign," said Hermione disapprovingly.
Harry smiled heartily, "Fine, I'm glad they did, I..."
"We're also glad we didn't wait a month in vain." A shrill voice came from the shadows behind the house. At the same moment six masked Death Eaters came out from either side of the house and surrounded them.
"Which one of you is Harry Potter? Take the initiative to stand up, and we may let your friend go." The leading Death Eater said.
"We're just passing through here, we..." Hermione tried to mislead the enemy.
"Don't lie, ma'am, everything is as the Dark Lord expected. No one will be visiting here now except Potter. And we have heard your conversation. You call him Harry. Then the gentleman next to you , right?" The Death Eaters aimed their wands at Ron.
It suddenly occurred to Esther that they hadn't found Harry under the Invisibility Cloak at all, they thought there were only three of them.
"It's him, he's Harry Potter." Esther suddenly said in a trembling voice, "We met halfway, and he told me that he used Polyjuice Potion to become like this, in order to avoid being Found. He said I was with him because he said he could help me get rid of Muggle-born censorship. Please don't arrest me, can you let me go? I don't want to be imprisoned in Azkaban." She cried and begged .
Hermione and Ron looked at her in surprise, speechless for a moment.
"Of course, my lady, of course you can leave. But you must first prove that he is really Potter." said the Death Eater slyly.
"His wand, you must know!" Esther yelled, "Hand over your wand!" Esther searched Ron's robe, and took out two stealth smoke bombs and decoys from his pocket bomb.
"What are you doing, stop!" Ron yelled.
"You run in the opposite direction for a while, and hurry back to Grimmauld Square when you reach the place where you can apparate. I have a way to get out." Esther whispered quickly.
"No," Harry said eagerly under the cloak.
"Shut up! I will never be bewitched by you again!" Esther said loudly, and began to flip through Hermione's robe again, "and your wand. Isn't he the savior? Then save me first, I don't want to be taken away!"
Esther pushed Hermione and Ron away, raised her wand and spare wand over her head, and walked towards the Death Eaters, "Here, here! Here you go, let me go!"
When she was two steps away from the Death Eaters, she suddenly shook her hand, threw the smoke bomb and the decoy bomb together, and quickly cast an Iron Armor Charm.
The sound of spells came from around, and Esther subconsciously bent down to avoid it.A spell hit her, but most of it was blocked by the Iron Armor Charm.Without any hesitation, she rolled on the spot and hid in the spreading black mist.Immediately afterwards, she retracted her wand and turned into a bat and flew over the ground in one go.The spells flew randomly in the black mist, and she relied on her hearing to dodge and fly out of the black mist and into the air.She saw Ron and Hermione spinning in the distance with the air in between and disappeared, so she was relieved and continued to fly towards the house on the hillside.
Finally entering the range of spell protection, Esther breathed a sigh of relief. She staggered to the front of the door and finally couldn't maintain her magic, she changed back to her original form and fell to the ground. The place hit by the spell becomes numb. After the high tension, there was an endless sense of powerlessness. She struggled a few times but gave up, letting herself lie on the bare ground in front of the door. She tried to cast a healing spell on herself, but she couldn't lift her heavy arm no matter what. Her consciousness became more and more blurred, and the sky in front of her eyes became extremely dark. Finally she lost consciousness and passed out.
Esther woke up with a sharp pain. She opened her eyes and found herself lying in a strange room. The violet domed ceiling is studded with countless stars.Tapestries of gold and red cover most of the walls. She tried to sit up, but her arm hurt like a needle prick, so she had to lie down obediently.
Someone seems to be arguing outside, the sound insulation here is really bad, Esther thought. She listened carefully to the movement outside, trying to figure out her current situation.
"...they deserve harsher punishment, Snape!" cried a gruff voice, "let the students practice the Cruciatus Curse on them, or hang them up and starve them for a few days before giving them a taste of the Dark Lord's Flogging Curse. You can't just send them to the Forbidden Forest anyway."
Snape's voice was calm and powerful, "Amycus, in school you should call me the Headmaster or Professor Snape. I have already decided on this matter, the three of them will get their due lessons in the Forbidden Forest, and I Looking forward to Hagrid reporting to me about their lost arms and broken legs. Of course I hope they are lucky enough not to lose their lives in the Forbidden Forest, because that would be troublesome. The Dark Lord would not like to hear about a pure blood wizard dying According to the news, we don't have much pure blood to waste. As for practicing the Cruciatus Curse, aren't you a student of confinement? It's not known when they will be scheduled."
"But the discipline is under my control and should be handled by me." Amycus said unconvinced.
"I hope you remember that I'm the Headmaster!" Snape's voice became stern. "If you still question my decision, Amycus, I'll have to ask the Dark Lord for a new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. After all, there are people who are willing to take this teaching position.”
"I will report this to the Dark Lord!" Amycus was not as confident as before.
"Please." Snape's voice was extremely calm.
After a while, the door of the room was opened.Esther looked over nervously, and Snape in black robe strode towards her.Seeing her awake, Snape seemed relieved, but his brows were still furrowed tightly. "When did you wake up?" he asked.
"When you were fighting," Esther replied, "what happened? Did the siblings disobey you?"
"Ginny Weasley, Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood thought I wasn't there, so they came to the headmaster's office to steal the Gryffindor sword. But it doesn't matter, the sword is fake, it's really hidden .As for that Amycus, he was just bluffing and didn't dare to really disobey my orders." Snape said flatly, "What's the matter with you? How did you go to Godric's Hollow? What about Harry and the others? ?”
"They should already be in Grimmauld Place. We went to Godric's Hollow to find clues and encountered Death Eaters. I had an invisibility smoke bomb and let them leave in the chaos. I wanted to throw it away and run, but I didn't expect it to happen." Got hit."
"Why don't you ask me before you go? Someone has been guarding it for a long time."
"Hermione put Phineas's portrait in the bag after knowing that you became the headmaster, in case you knew about us. I couldn't just say so and didn't stop her."
"Then can't you send a message? Where's your Patronus?"
"It's not easy for you here, is it? The Dark Lord sent two Death Eaters to contain you, and I don't want to cause you any trouble."
"Then you just let yourself fend for yourself? If I hadn't picked you up by chance, no one would know where you died!"
"Thank you." Esther said sincerely.
Snape softened a bit, "So what progress have you made?"
Esther grew irritable at the thought of it.
"We found a sign, but I don't understand what Dumbledore means. I don't know if I should tell them what I know. Dumbledore and Grindelwald can't be contacted, I..."
"Follow your instinct." Snape sat down next to Esther, smoothed her loose hair, and calmed her growing agitation, "Don't care what Dumbledore thinks, and don't care about Green Devore's prophecy. Don't let yourself be trapped by them. Do what feels right to you and trust yourself."
Esther relaxed, showing a reassuring smile, "Thanks, Sev, I see."
With Snape's help, Esther gradually regained his ability to move. She now knew that her hiding place was Dumbledore's bedroom, which Snape had no intention of turning into Slytherin territory. In fact, if Esther wasn't here, he would hardly want to come in.
During the three days that Esther was here, there were constantly eccentric Hogwarts professors and the noisy Carlo brothers and sisters coming to find fault. She couldn't help feeling a headache for him.Everyone regards him as an enemy. But facing the only Esther who cared about him, Snape kept silent about his difficult situation. He would rather face wave after wave of provocation alone than let Esther worry about him.
On the third night, Snape was summoned by Voldemort and left Hogwarts with a fake Gryffindor sword.Esther paced the room worriedly, praying that Voldemort would not find something wrong with the sword.Just as she was restless, a silver doe flew gracefully in and said curtly, "Wait for me at Gringotts, become a bat, be quick."
Esther sprang into action, turning into a bat and flying through the open window into the afterglow of the setting sun. When they arrived at their destination smoothly, most of Gringotts' employees had already gone home from get off work. The increasing darkness made Esther safer.
Soon, Esther saw Snape, who was billowing in black robe, walking in this direction. She turned around in front of him to make it easy for him to find herself.
Sure enough, Snape noticed her right away.He quietly cast a Disillusionment Charm on the bat.Esther felt a chill all over, and realized that he must have been cursed by Snape, so he confidently and boldly landed on Snape's shoulder.
"I'm going to the Lestrange family's vault, you can search it, since she doesn't have one at home, maybe it's here." Snape whispered.
Seeing Snape, the guard at the gate of Gringotts said hesitantly, "Sir, I'm off work today, see if you can come back tomorrow."
"That lord's order." Snape said in a strong tone.
"This..." The guards looked at each other in bewilderment. At this time, a goblin came out from Gringotts, "Mr. Snape, we are waiting for you, please come in."
The guards hurriedly picked up a slender metal rod, ready to examine Snape.Esther recognized the Honesty Detector and quickly flew up from Snape, only to land on Snape's shoulder after they finished checking.
Snape followed the goblins into the Gringotts halls, only a few goblins still working. The goblin who led the way said to one of them, "Griphook, take Mr. Snape to Lestrange's vault. He wants to store something."
Griphook curled his lips in disgust, and turned away from the counter. After a while he came back with a small bag, and the contents of the bag made the sound of clanging metal plates against each other.
"This way, please, Mr. Snape," said Griphook.Although the expression is not so happy, but the words are very polite. He led Snape through a door in the Great Hall and into a stone corridor leading underground.
Griphook whistled, and out of the darkness a small cart rolled down the track.Snape sat in the back row, and while Griphook was not paying attention to him, he touched the little bat on his shoulder with his free hand and put it in his pocket.
The car jerked into motion, and the cloth clung tightly to Esther, wrapping her up.She felt like she was being thrown into a washing machine in this cloth bag.
Finally, a screeching brake ended the long journey, and Esther collapsed into the pocket of his robe, almost vomiting. But before Esther fully recovered, she felt another shaking. But this time it was more relaxed and more regular, much more comfortable than just now in the car.
There was a clanging of iron plates and a dragon's roar, and Esther was surprised to think that Lestrange's vault was probably very close to the Shafik's vault.
"This is Lestrange's vault, sir," said Griphook.
Almost at the moment when Griphook's voice fell, Esther's heart beat faster. She heard that long-lost voice. She knew that thing was here, in this vault.
Coming out of Gringotts, Snape didn't stay long in Diagon Alley, and directly Apparated back to Hogwarts. After returning to Dumbledore's bedroom, he released Esther.
"It's there, it's really there." The eyes of Esther who had just transformed back were shining, and he didn't notice that there was something wrong with Snape's eyes.
"Very good, but what's wrong with you? You look so bad? Is the injury recurring?" Snape said worriedly.
Esther smiled sheepishly, "Oh, no. It's riding in Gringotts' car in your pocket. The experience is so unique, I think I almost threw up."
Snape was worried, so he checked Esther. After making sure that the injury didn't get worse, he conjured a glass of water with a spell and handed it to her.
Esther took the glass and drank it down, then said to Snape, "I want to see if Dumbledore is back. I have to tell him the news, and I should go back and see how Harry and the others are doing. "
Snape nodded expressionlessly.Esther hugged him, raised her head and kissed him gently on the cheek.Snape's deep black eyes finally couldn't hide it, revealing a trace of reluctance and worry.
"It's almost over." Esther comforted him, more like comforting himself, "When everything is over, we can always be together. We can study magic together, make potions, and scold Hogwarts together How annoying your teachers and students are... When everything is over, I will give you a good scolding for those who scolded you..."
Snape finally showed a helpless smile. He put his thin lips on Esther's forehead and gave her a soft kiss.
After another delay, Esther finally gritted his teeth and left Snape's embrace. She took one last look at Snape before turning into a bat and flying off into the endless night.
