Chapter 34 Professor Moody

Esther found an empty corner and Apparated to King's Cross Station, pretended to be nonchalant and blended into the crowd, passing between platforms 9 and 10.It's hard to describe how she feels now, already in seventh grade, this will be her last bus ride to Hogwarts. And she no longer has a home, no retreat, only forward.

She loaded her luggage into the prefect's car, and Orion welcomed her with Leona. She was surprised to see two people with shiny H badges on their chests.

"Should I celebrate your promotion to Co-President? Why didn't you write to tell me?" Esther said pretending to be angry.

"Who knows what you've been up to this holiday season? Even my birthday present is late." Leona complained.

"Did nothing, wasted a vacation." Esther said honestly, "What about you?"

"We went to watch the Quidditch World Cup. I was with Orion and his mother." Leona said happily, "His mother quite likes me."

Esther looked at Orion, who also nodded solemnly.

"Isn't your mother against Muggle-born?" Esther asked Orion in a low voice, but she was still punched by Leona.

"She thinks differently now than before." Orion didn't elaborate.

"I heard that something happened in the World Cup?" Esther changed the subject because it was inconvenient to ask.

The faces of the two became a little ugly, and Leona nodded and said, "You don't know how terrifying it is, those people wearing masks hang Muggles in the air to torture them."

"It's the Death Eaters." Orion added.

"And that disgusting Dark Mark." Leona continued, and Orion showed an unnatural expression.

"I read the newspaper." Esther recalled the conversation with Aunt Connie that day, and couldn't help feeling a little sad.She activates Occlumency, suppressing her feelings.

The time on the train was still very pleasant, and it was a novel experience to stand in the line of female prefects and watch Leona speak.Although there is some loss and jealousy in his heart, after all, he is his best friend, and Collins still controls his thoughts very well, and does not let it overly dominate his feelings. Most of the rest of the time was spent eating snacks and inspecting the carriages, and the topics he heard were nothing more than the Quidditch World Cup, which made Este, who had not personally participated, understand a general idea.

After getting off the express train, Esther is not so happy. There was a thunderstorm outside, and bright lightning flashes streaked the night sky from time to time.Esther, Leona, and Orion led all the first-year students off the train to meet Hagrid, and then ran out of the platform into a carriage. There was already a little girl in the fourth grade sitting in the carriage, and they rushed in without having time to say hello.

When they entered Hogwarts, they found that the entrance hall was also wet, and Filch was trying to clean up the water stains.

"Damn Peeves, I want to show him!" Filch cursed Peeves while mopping the floor.

Professor McGonagall asked Leona and Orion to help.Esther didn't want to go into the auditorium so early to meet Snape, so she also pulled out her wand and joined the cleaning team. After finally drying the hall, Leona said goodbye to the two of them and returned to the Gryffindor table.

Esther and Orion found two empty seats at the front of the long table and sat down. The magic ceiling is just like the outside, with dark clouds and thunderstorms, which makes people a little irritable.Esther used Occlumency to suppress his emotions, the irritability disappeared, and the joy of returning to Hogwarts also decreased a lot.But at least she could see Professor Snape in the faculty seat normally.

The sorting ceremony began, and Orion welcomed the freshmen who were assigned to Slytherin one by one. Astor watched him shake hands with the freshmen, thinking of how different he was when he was alone in the corner.

Esther pulled out her wand and dried the drenched clothes of the seated first-year students. As the prefect of the last year, she should let the new students feel the friendship between Slytherins.

With the end of the sorting ceremony, a sumptuous feast was served on the table. The first-year freshmen were too scared to use a knife and fork by the bloody Baro.Esther kindly vacated a seat next to her.

"Sir Barrow, can you sit here, just to tell us something interesting about the castle during the holiday." Esther said politely.

"Holidays are no fun. The castle is boring as hell. But after school starts, it should be a little fun." Bloody Barrow's gloomy expression made one think that he didn't think it was really fun.

"After school starts? Are there any activities?" Esther asked.

"I believe Principal Dumbledore will tell you soon." Bloody Barrow fell silent again.

Soon everyone had enough to eat and drink, and the long table became as clean as before.Principal Dumbledore emphasized the precautions of the school again, nothing more than safety issues such as contraband and forbidden forests.Esther didn't pay much attention to these regulations, and when he was distracted, there was a whispered discussion around him:

"No reason?"

"I still want to join the Quidditch team this year!"

Esther then withdrew her mind and listened carefully to Dumbledore's speech.

After Dumbledore motioned everyone to keep quiet, he continued: "This is because a large event will start in October and last for the entire school year, taking up a lot of time and energy of the teachers - but I believe that you will all get something out of it." Great fun. I am very pleased to announce that this year at Hogwarts—”

At this moment, there was a loud thunder, and the door of the auditorium was slammed open.

A man in a black traveling cloak stood in the doorway leaning on a long cane.He took off his hood and limped towards the staff table.A flash of lightning flashed across, revealing his gray hair and disfigured face.Esther had never seen such a scarred face, full of scars, and the features were not in place. Most intimidating of all, he has a prosthetic eye that rolls from white to blue.

The students gasped as they watched him step up to Dumbledore's side vigorously, extended a hand as scarred as his face to shake Dumbledore's, and then sat on the only vacant seat on the long table following the principal's instructions. He shook his head to shake his hair out, pulled over a plate of sausages, and sniffed carefully with his missing piece of nose. Then he took out a small knife from his pocket and poked it in from one end of the sausage and ate it.His normal black eyes were fixed on the sausage, but the fake eye kept moving around, making Esther feel sick.

"Please allow me to introduce our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher," Dumbledore happily introduced, "Professor Moody."

The Great Hall was silent, save for Dumbledore and Hagrid applauding him.Seeing Orion's tense expression, Esther couldn't help asking: "What's wrong? Orion, do you know him?"

"No, I don't know him, I just heard about it." Orion took a deep breath and whispered to Esther, "He's a former Auror who specializes in catching Death Eaters. You know—I Dad—it is said that he is..."

Esther didn't know what to say, Orion didn't like his father, but that didn't mean he would like the murderer who killed his father. In fact Esther could sense Orion's hostility.Esther looked at Professor Moody on the long table again, who was taking a swig from a flagon from his traveling cloak. He brought all the tableware and drinks by himself, was he afraid that Hogwarts would poison him?Esther thought sullenly that she didn't feel good about the new professor.

Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued, "As I said just now, in the next few months we will be honored to host a very exciting event, which has not been held for more than a century .It is my great pleasure to report that the Triwizard Tournament will be held at Hogwarts this year."

The auditorium finally broke the oppressive silence just now, the students discussed happily, and one of the twin Weasleys on the Gryffindor long table yelled loudly, "You're kidding."

"I'm not kidding, Mr. Weasley," Dumbledore said with a chuckle, "but since you mentioned joking, I did hear a very funny one about a troll, a hag and a Leprechauns, they all went into the same tavern..."

Professor McGonagall cleared his throat loudly.

"Oh—that's probably not the right time to say that... not the right..." said Dumbledore. "Where did I go? Ah, yes, the Triwizard Tournament... some of you don't know that yet." What the hell is going on with this contest, so I hope those in the know will forgive me for explaining a little bit again, and I allow their minds to wander for a while.

"The Triwizard Tournament was created some 700 years ago as a friendly rivalry between the three largest wizarding schools in Europe. The three schools are: Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. Each school selects a warrior, and then three warriors compete in three kinds of magic items. The Triwizard Tournament is held every five years, and the three schools take turns hosting it. Everyone agrees that this is an excellent opportunity for young wizards from different countries to establish friendship. A good way—but then, the death toll was too high, and the Triwizard Tournament was interrupted."

Esther saw Orion looking worriedly at the Gryffindor table.Obviously his worry was warranted, because Leona stared at Dumbledore with bright eyes, as if she couldn't wait to sign up now.

"There have been several attempts over the centuries to bring back the Tournament, but none have been successful. However, we at the Department of International Magical Cooperation and Magical Sports at the Ministry of Magic believe that the time is ripe for another attempt. This summer we will A lot of work has been done to ensure that every warrior's life is not in danger.

"In October, the Headmasters of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang will bring their handpicked contenders, and the selection of the warriors will take place on Hallowe'en. An impartial referee will decide which students are best qualified to participate Compete for the Tri-Strong Cup, win honors for your school, and personally get a bonus of [-] Galleons."

The auditorium was boiling, and the students were eager to try. The first-year students looked at the seniors behind the long table with envious expressions.Dumbledore spoke again, and the Great Hall fell silent again.

"I know you are all eager to win the Triwizard Tournament for Hogwarts, but the participating schools and the Ministry of Magic have agreed that there should be an age cutoff for this year's contenders. Only 17 years and over - that is, Only students over the age of 17 are allowed to enroll for consideration. We feel,"—Dumbledore raised his voice slightly as someone protested angrily—"that this measure is necessary because The competition is still very difficult and dangerous. No matter how many defensive measures we take, it is impossible for students under the sixth and seventh grades to deal with it. I will guarantee that no student under the age can deceive our fair referee and become Heroes of Hogwarts." Dumbledore glanced warningly over the students of the four houses, "Therefore, if you are under 17, I beg you not to waste your time applying."

"The Beauxbatons and Durmstrang delegations will be arriving in October and will be with us for most of the term. I know you will all be well behaved while our foreign dignitaries are here. Warm and friendly, and once a Hogwarts champion is finally chosen, you will support him or her wholeheartedly. Well, it is getting late, and it is very important that you go into class tomorrow morning refreshed and clear-headed. Go Go to bed! Hurry up!"

Esther began to stand up and join the other prefects in leading the first years back to the Slytherin common room.

"What do you think of the Triwizard Tournament?" Orion asked Este, who was not as enthusiastic about it as others.

"Sounds dangerous, doesn't it? Combat alone, life-threatening, neither is very attractive." Est also hesitated.

"But Leona will definitely sign up." Orion was very conflicted.

"I can tell." Esther smiled slightly, "Are you going to stop her?"

"No, she'll be angry. I can't stop it," Orion said. "If only we knew who picks the champions."

"What are you going to do?" Est asked.

"Maybe we can discuss it." Orion said tactfully.

"Glory!" The new prefect of the fifth grade yelled at the wall with great momentum.

"Maybe if we all sign up and expand the scope, Leona's chances of being selected will become smaller." Esther joked before returning to the dormitory.

Orion nodded seriously, "What you said is a solution."

Early the next morning, Esther and Orion came to the auditorium for breakfast.Professor Snape pushed a dozen timetables over Esther into Orion's arms.

"Send it on." After he finished speaking concisely, he was about to go back to the teacher's long table for dinner.

When Snape walked to the long table, he met Professor Moody who had just entered. He visibly froze for a moment, and quickly chose a seat beside him to sit down and start eating.Professor Moody slowly sat down on his seat, both the good eye and the magic eye were staring at Professor Snape, as if they were ready to deal with him at any time.Snape pretended not to notice, and ate his breakfast quietly.

This is a bit unusual, Esther forgot Professor Snape's indifference to him just now.She hadn't seen anyone that Professor Snape was afraid of, even Professor Dumbledore, he dared to offend one or two words in his temper, why was he afraid of Professor Moody?

She absent-mindedly distributed the timetables for Orion, and ended up sending out many people's timetables by mistake.Orion glanced at Esther suspiciously, thinking that she shouldn't make such a mistake.

After breakfast, Snape arranged a new timetable for the sixth grade, and Esther and Orion rushed to the first class.Leona was waiting for them in the corridor.

"I don't know how this Professor Moody is better than Professor Lupin. He looks crazy." Leona said as they walked to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

"I'll know in a while." Esther didn't want to say more. She has a bad feeling for Professor Moody, but she doesn't want to let her thoughts cloud Leona's judgment.

Before class, Professor Moody took the roster and read all the names of the students. When he read Orion, he paused, "It's the Wilkes I thought of, right? I hope you won't be like Like your father." Orion clenched his fists.

After the roll call, he put away the roster, "I'm surprised that you are already in the seventh grade, and you haven't seen the real dark magic. It's not good, it's not good. You didn't know you were going to face it when you left Hogwarts." What are you doing!" His good eyes scanned a circle of students, "Not only should you know, but you should also have a deep understanding, so that you can know how to deal with it. You haven't seen it before, why are you talking about defense!"

"Who can tell now what black magic is strictly prohibited?" Professor Moody asked.

"Nobody knows? Huh? That's disappointing." Professor Moody walked up to the students. "Wilkes, you know?"

"Yes, professor. There are three spells that are absolutely forbidden to use, known as the Unforgivable Curses." Orion replied dryly.

"Very well, say the name of the spell." Professor Moody stared at him with both eyes at the same time, which made people feel very oppressed.

"Imperius Curse, Cruciatus Curse and Killing Curse." Orion swallowed nervously.

Moody finally left him and returned to the podium, "Very well, very well! Now I'm going to show you these three spells."

There was no sound in the classroom, and everyone was excitedly staring at Professor Moody, as if they couldn't wait.Only Orion and Esther frowned, but none of them would object to what the professor did.

"How about the Imperius Curse first?" Professor Moody took out a big black spider and made him as big as the palm of his hand. "The soul is out of the body!"

The big black spider jumped onto the table and started dancing around the table. The students laughed.

"Think it's funny? What about this?" Professor Moody let the big black spider jump on the face of a classmate, and he froze there as if a switch had been pressed, and even stopped breathing.

"What if I let it bite you now?" Professor Moody let the spider jump onto the desk of another classmate, who leaned back in fear, trying to avoid the spider's fangs.

"I can also let it drown myself." As soon as Professor Moody finished speaking, the black spider crawled back onto the desk and crawled into a glass filled with water.

"Many years ago, many wizards claimed that they were controlled by mysterious people with the Imperius Curse." Professor Moody said, "This has caused us great trouble. We have to distinguish between them who are really being forced and who are lie.

"The Imperius Curse can be resisted, and I will give you the method, but it requires a strong personality, and not everyone can master it. You'd better avoid being hit by it as much as possible. Be vigilant at all times!" He Suddenly there was a loud roar, and even Esther was startled.

"Okay, let's take a look at the Cruciatus Curse again." Moody took out the spider that was entangled in the mouth of the cup, and placed it on a prominent place on the table, "Cruciate!"

The spider immediately shrank into a big black spot.It twitched and turned and seemed to scream silently.

"Extremely painful." Esther suddenly felt Professor Moody's cruel pleasure for a moment. She looked at Professor Moody suspiciously, but the feeling disappeared without a trace, as if she was hallucinating.

"A tormenting spell. Most of the people cast will not die, but it will greatly destroy their spirits. Many wizards are driven crazy by this spell." Professor Moody stopped the spell, and the spider was still twitching on the table.

"Finally the Killing Curse," Moody pointed his wand at the twitching spider emotionlessly. "Avada Kedavra!" he yelled.

There was a messy sound followed by a dazzling green light. The spider maintained the posture just now but stopped moving. It was dead.

Esther had seen this spell before, in the Slytherin Chamber of Secrets. The green light of Professor Moody's Killing Curse is obviously much stronger than that of Riddle in ghost state. If he was facing a killing curse of this level at that time, he might have died, Esther thought with horror.

"There is no anti-curse, no defensive spell, and the person who was hit does not have any marks or wounds, but he will definitely die." Moody said calmly. "Only one escaped the spell, and you know who he is."

The classroom was quiet.

"The Killing Curse requires a very strong magical power as a foundation - I believe that even if you say the spell now, you will not be able to kill me.

So why am I showing you this?Because you have to understand, the worst possible outcome.Be vigilant at all times! ' he growled again.

"You should get out your quills and write these down... these spells... these performances on hit... this is what you're going to face, what I'm going to teach you to resist, but most importantly, you need to Be vigilant at all times."
