Chapter 28 A Christmas Chapter at Hogwarts

Esther knew that they sent herself to the school hospital, and she wanted to tell them to let her go back to the dormitory to sleep, just to lose strength. But she couldn't open her mouth, in fact she didn't even have the strength to move her fingers.

She should have fallen asleep, but she felt awake again. She heard people chattering around the hospital bed next door, but she couldn't make out, or rather understand, because her brain refused to translate what she heard into useful information. She just waited in a daze until midnight before she felt a little more awake. She could finally move her body and change into a comfortable position.

"Are you okay, Esther?" Harry asked her from the side, startling her.

"It's okay, you haven't slept yet?" Esther looked at Harry, but found that there was no light, and she couldn't see anything clearly.

"No, can't sleep. Thank you Patronus for protecting me," said Harry.

"You're welcome, but isn't it embarrassing to faint after using a Patronus Charm?" Esther said awkwardly.

"Madame Pomfrey said that your soul is a little unstable due to excessive use of magic power." Harry said.

Esther smiled bitterly, it really was such a shameful reason.I am really useless. She changed the subject and asked Harry, "How are you, why don't you go to sleep?"

"I'm remembering my mother's voice I heard when the dementor was near me."

"Did you hear that? What did you hear?"

"She wanted to protect me, she begged Voldemort to let me go and trade her... I heard Voldemort's laughter... my mother's dying scream..."

Although Esther couldn't see it, she could imagine that Harry should be secretly weeping.

"Your mother is so brave, no wonder everyone likes her." Esther said with emotion.

"Everyone?" Harry asked.

"Well, I heard from the professors that she is very popular and has good grades." Esther made her words seem credible.

"Do you know anything else about her?" Harry asked.

"I don't know, I don't know, Harry. After all, I heard it, so I don't know very well." Esther felt a little guilty.

"Really?" Harry said regretfully.

Esther remained silent, afraid she couldn't help but say more.

"One more thing, before I was attacked by the dementors, I saw 'ominous'." Harry said again suddenly.

"What's 'ominous'?" Asked Esther.

"Haven't you taken a divination class? It's an omen of death."

"Sorry, I haven't been on it, so what omen did you see? How did you die?"

"No, it's a big black dog. I saw it when I came out of the Dursleys on vacation, when I was talking to you. I saw it again today, in the stands."

"What a coincidence, I also saw a big black dog in the stands, still sitting on the seat like a human." Esther said with a chuckle, "Just before you fell."

"You saw that too? So it's really a black dog?" said Harry in disbelief.

"Yeah, it's really a black dog. I wanted to see who its owner was, but before I could, the dementor came."

"I thought... so there is no sign of death at all?" Harry seemed to be in a better mood.

"Well, I have a chance to search in the school to see who brought it. This dog is not common, and it is such a big one, so it must be easy to find." Esther said.

"If you two don't sleep, I'll give you some sleeping potions!" Madam Pomfrey's voice came from the office, looking very angry.

Both Esther and Harry lay down quickly, not daring to make a sound again.

Madam Pomfrey insisted that Esther and Harry stay in the school hospital the next day.But Esther says she's fully healed. She showed Madam Pomfrey a few silent spells and was cleared to leave the hospital after proving she was in good shape.Harry looked at her full of resentment, she made a face at Harry, and fled as if leaving the school hospital.

On the way back to the common room, Esther happened to run into Orion and Leona who came to see her.She asked them to go to the library to occupy a seat and go back to the dormitory to pick up homework by herself. But after walking a few steps, she was stopped by Professor Snape.

"Come with me." Snape brought her into the office, pointed to a bottle of white chaotic potion on the table and said, "Soul Stabilizer, drink it."

The potion was still a little warm, Esther took a sip, and it smelled like some berries. She drank it in one gulp, and felt a warmth passing from her brain to her limbs, which made her extremely comfortable.

"Thank you, Professor." Esther thanked Snape with a smile.

Snape nodded awkwardly, and asked Esther, "What did you do yesterday?"

"I didn't do anything," Esther said innocently, "I just cast a Patronus Charm."

Snape chanted a spell, swept his wand around Esther, and there seemed to be no problem. "Let me see with the Patronus Charm," he said.

Esther released the bat, and there was a hint of warmth where it flew.Esther sent her flying towards Snape, circled him, and flew into Snape's body.

"What are you doing!" Snape took a step back subconsciously, but soon he showed a puzzled expression, it seemed that he had never seen anyone use the Patronus Charm like this.

"Your Patronus Charm can affect other people's emotions, and can also make people see memories?" Snape raised his eyebrows.

"I think sharing happy memories requires a common experience." Esther was secretly happy that Professor Snape would have a happy time, and it was related to her.

"A Patronus is another manifestation of the soul, a positive force. We generally think of it as being brought about by our thoughts and emotions. But your Patronus seems to come from something deeper, and maybe that's why you're overwhelmed. The reason why the soul is unstable after using magic power." Snape murmured.

"Then will I cause damage to the soul every time I use the Patronus Charm?" Estor asked worriedly.

"Probably not. You lost control yesterday because you were too anxious and released a large amount of magic power in a short period of time. As your magic power grows stronger as you age, it will be no problem to practice more to increase the toughness of your soul." Snape waved his hand, indicating that she can leave up.

As the weather grew colder, Care of Fantastic Beasts became an ordeal.Hagrid had no enthusiasm for the course, and the content of the arrangement was not structured. One week they had three-headed dogs, and the next week they became moon monsters.

"Maybe we can practice in the Forbidden Forest again?" Esther suggested to Hagrid when everyone complained that the class was boring. She wanted to take the opportunity to go to the Forbidden Forest to look for the big black dog.Esther had searched carefully in the castle, and asked about it when chatting with the prefects of various colleges, but everyone said that no one had a pet dog, and no professor would keep a pet, except Hagrid. But Hagrid said that the dog he raised was Lu Wei, the three-headed dog except Fang Ya, and he had never seen any big black dog.Maybe in the Forbidden Forest, Esther thought of Stone's words and wanted to try his luck.

"No!" Hagrid resolutely refused, "Although Professor Dumbledore told the dementors not to dare to enter Hogwarts again, it's not necessarily the case in the Forbidden Forest." He shuddered, "It's too risky to go in now. "

Esther could only make another plan.Maybe during the Christmas holidays, I could turn into a bat and go in and look for it, she thought.

Esther and Aunt Connie discussed this holiday and stayed at Hogwarts for Christmas. She only had two Christmases at Hogwarts, and the seventh grade had the NEWT exam. Given the experience of the fifth grade exam, the seventh grade Christmas might not be easy.So this year is the last school leave she can enjoy. And there is a full moon right after Christmas, and Professor Lupine needs Wolfsbane Potion.

Hogwarts Christmas decorations are really festive.Although Esther had been involved with most of the decorations twice as a prefect, she had never truly appreciated them more than she does now. Here and there hung streamers of holly and mistletoe. Each armor also shone with a mysterious light. In the auditorium there were also twelve tall Christmas trees brought from the Forbidden Forest, hung with little icicles or candles, and a mass of golden bubbles and glowing stars on them.

Although the experience of spending the holidays in the castle was very novel, on Christmas morning, she was the only one in the dormitory silently opening presents, which seemed a little deserted. She ate some fudge from the gift and left the dormitory in a hurry. She didn't like being alone during the holidays. It made her miss Aunt Connie and the long-forgotten warm home.

She needs to find something for herself to divert her attention.Esther turns into a bat and flies into the Forbidden Forest. She will go there once a few days when she is free, hoping to find the big black dog.But she found nothing, not even Stone. She wondered if Stone had been eaten too. This thought made her very worried, and she ran to the Forbidden Forest more diligently.

Another day of futility.Seeing that the time for boiling the medicine agreed with Professor Snape was approaching, she quickly flapped her wings and flew back.

"Merry Christmas! Professor!" Esther greeted warmly.

"Merry Christmas." Professor Snape still had a low voice without any ups and downs.

Esther tacitly passed the needed medicinal materials and tools to Professor Snape. Although there was no conversation, Esther was also very happy.Much better than being in a deserted dormitory.

Professor Snape looked at the smoking goblet with satisfaction, it was of good quality. "I'll send it there, you go to the auditorium first." Snape told Esther.

Esther followed Professor Snape's suggestion and came to the auditorium first. There was no one in the auditorium, only two first-year freshmen sat on the long Gryffindor table, which seemed extremely empty. She walked to the Slytherin table and sat down, waiting for the others to arrive.

People came in one after another, and a classmate who was a grade lower than Esther sat down a seat away from Esther and nodded to her.Filch sat at the end of the teachers' table in an old tuxedo.Professor Flitwick came in with Professor McGonagall, talking as they walked.Professor Sprout wasn't wearing her patched conservatory wizarding robes, though she was wearing a similar style of clothing. Finally Professor Dumbledore came too.

"Merry Christmas! We're the only ones here, so it's kind of strange to sit apart, isn't it?" Dumbledore said with a smile, motioning for everyone to stand up.Using his wand, he moved the long house table to the wall, and conjured a long table and thirteen chairs in the middle of the auditorium.

"Sit down quickly." Dumbledore said happily, and then chose a seat first. The teachers then sat down in their seats. Finally, the students sat down awkwardly, looking a little nervous.

Professor Snape walked in with a sullen face after a while. "Come on, Severus." Professor Dumbledore beckoned to him, letting him take the empty seat next to Professor McGonagall.

There are still three vacancies next to Esther, and I don't know who else will come.Everyone wished they could hurry up, she didn't eat much in the morning, and now she felt very hungry.

Finally the last three came, Harry and his two friends - Ron and Hermione. She forgot that Harry also spent Christmas at school every year.Apparently Harry didn't expect Esther to stay at school either, he froze for a moment, then sat happily in the empty seat next to her.Snape pursed his lips.

"Firecracker!" Seeing the three of them sit down, Dumbledore said cheerfully and handed the end of a big silver firecracker to Snape.Snape frowned and pulled reluctantly. There was a loud bang like a cannon, and a large pointed witch hat with a stuffed vulture was exposed from the firecracker.Harry and Weasley laughed. Esther didn't understand what was going on, but seeing Snape's expression, he knew that Harry's smile was inappropriate. She nudged Harry with a disapproving expression.

Snape pushed the witch hat to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore immediately took off the wizard hat on his head and put on this new one.Esther tried to restrain his expression so that he could appear polite.Dumbledore called everyone to dinner.Esther bypassed the potatoes, selected a steak and sliced it as quickly as possible without being rude. When the first piece of beef was put into his mouth, Esther finally felt at ease.

At this moment, the door of the auditorium opened again, and a professor with thick glasses and a green suit studded with sequins walked in.

"She is the professor of our Divination class, Professor Trelawney." Harry whispered in Esther's ear.

"Sybil, what a surprise." Professor Dumbledore stood up to greet her, and added a chair for her between Professor Snape and Professor McGonagall.

"Thirteen of you started dining?" Professor Trelawney said in an ethereal voice. "Thirteen people, the most unlucky, the first one to stand up will be the first to die! Forgive my irrationality, principal, you have to be extra careful."

Esther was glad that he didn't take the divination class, otherwise he would have wasted his time like History of Magic.

"Thank you, Sybil. But let me say this is good news, after all, I am the oldest person here." Dumbledore said with a nonchalant smile.

"Sit down, Sybil, the turkey is as cold as a rock." Professor McGonagall said with a straight face.

Trelawney sat down and looked around, and said, "Where is my dear Professor Lupine?"

"I'm afraid the poor man is ill again," said Dumbledore. "It's just in time for the holidays, which is unfortunate."

"But you must already know, Sybil?" Professor McGonagall asked with raised eyebrows.Esther pretended to be chewing the baked potato calmly, but secretly laughed in her heart.Professor McGonagall can even tease others. It seems that Professor Sprout is less popular than Professor Snape.

"Of course I know, Minerva. I pretended I didn't have Tianmu because I didn't want to make others feel nervous." Professor Trelawney said flatly.

"That's pretty telling," said Professor McGonagall bitterly.

Professor Trelawney gave up at last in that disembodied voice. "If you must know, Minerva, I see that poor Professor Lupine won't stay with us long. He seems to know it himself, and I'll give When he looked at the crystal ball, he clearly ran away in a hurry—"

"Conceivably," said Professor McGonagall dryly.

"Cough, cough—sorry, I ate too fast." Esther tried to pretend to be choked, suppressing a smile.Showing a werewolf a crystal ball that looks like a full moon, Trelawney really can make people upset. And Professor McGonagall's serious and choking appearance is really funny.

"I doubt it," said Professor Dumbledore lightheartedly, blinking quickly at Esther and adding, "Severus, have you remixed his potion yet?"

"Yes, Headmaster," said Snape.

"Very well," said Dumbledore, "then he should be up and running soon...Redeker, have you tried any of these little sausages? They are delicious."

The first-year student who was called took the plate of sausages with a flushed face.

Esther and Harry chatted while eating. Two hours later, from hungry to full, she felt that she should go for a walk to digest food.As he was thinking about where to go, Professor Trelawney's unique voice came to his ears again, "Honey, haven't you taken a divination class? How come I haven't seen you?"

After waiting for a long time without hearing anyone reply, Esther looked up and found that everyone was looking at her. It turned out that Professor Trelawney was asking herself.

"Um, yes, Professor." Esther leaned forward politely.

"That's really a pity. You should take it as an elective. It will be very helpful for the huge crisis you are about to face." Professor Trelawney seemed to feel sorry for Este.

"I don't think I will have any huge crisis." Esther said with a smile, maintaining basic etiquette.

"Of course you have, my third eye can predict it. You have to be wary of a man with black hair." Trelawney said mysteriously.

"Do you want to be wary of black-haired people? Fortunately, it's not a black-haired dog." Esther and Harry exchanged a look, and the two laughed.

Professor Trelawney seemed greatly offended, his eyes, which had been magnified by the lenses, became even bigger and looked at her angrily.

"It's a joke, professor. I'll pay attention to it, thank you for reminding me." Esther said mischievously before leaving the table.

On the last day of the Christmas holiday, Esther ran into Professor Lupine on the stairs outside the auditorium.Professor Lupine seemed to be recovering well, although he still had a pale face, but his eyes were bright, and he was carrying a large cargo box in his hand.

"Good afternoon, Collins. Thank you for your Christmas gift. Honeydukes' candy is still so good." Professor Lupine said with a smile.

"I think you might need a little more sweets to replenish your strength." Esther said with a polite smile.

"Yes, very useful," said Lupine.

"What is this?" Esther pointed to the big box and asked, "Do you need help?"

"Oh, no, thank you. It's just a Boggart. Don't get me wrong, it's not what you think," Professor Lupine saw Esther's face sinking, and explained patiently: "It's for Harry to practice the Patronus Charm." Yes, it turns into a dementor in front of Harry, which is good for practice."

Esther nodded, she had heard Harry talk about it.She was about to ask when they practiced when she saw Professor Snape coming down the stairs, squinting dangerously at Esther and Lupine.

"I'm looking for you, Collins. Come with me," said Professor Snape darkly.

Esther could only smile apologetically at Professor Lupine and catch up with Professor Snape's billowing robes.

Professor Snape took Esther back to the basement office, closed the door and stared at her with stern eyes, "Did Miss Collins forget that he is dangerous, and chat alone at close range?"

"But the metamorphosis period has passed, and he has been taking medicine, even if he transforms, he is safe." Esther argued.

"You think he's dangerous only because he's a werewolf? Let me tell you, he and Black are good friends, since they were in school. I'm sure that Black broke into Hogwarts and Lupine is absolutely inseparable!" Snape angrily Esther yelled.

"Then you should keep an eye on Professor Lupine, maybe you can catch Black." Esther said casually.

"How capable do you think you are, to deal with two adult wizards alone? One of them is a crazy murderer who once blew up another wizard with only one little finger left!" Snape pushed closer and closer, Esther never I have experienced this special sense of oppression.

"I'm sorry, Professor, I will pay attention to it in the future." Esther couldn't bear the pressure and was defeated first.

Snape still stared at her without saying a word, and after a while passed by Esther, picked up a large notice on the table and handed it to her, "Post it on the bulletin board in the common room."

Esther didn't even look at it, took the notice and hurried out of the office.
