Chapter 20 The Chamber of Secrets is Opened

On the second day after Esther came back from Snape's office, a book list and exam points for Defense Against the Dark Arts suddenly began to be circulated among the Slytherins. No one knows where this information came from, but everyone believes in it.Almost every student in fifth grade prepared a set of exam preparation books and swapped them with Lockhart's complete works. In the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, the Slytherins all occupied the seats in the back rows and recited the key points of the exam without saying a word.Lockhart was unaware of this.

Halloween came as scheduled, Esther sneaked into the corner of the corridor where there was no one, and turned into a bat.She flew up high with her wand in her mouth and hid it on a raised stone brick, then flew with the crowd to the Great Hall, hiding herself among the bats.

"Hey! Watch!" The fat bat yelled at Esther when it flew past her.

Esther froze for a moment, but unexpectedly another bat behind him also shouted: "Stay out of the way!"

It turned out that the bats were so noisy, Esther flew to the window and hung upside down, she needed to adapt to her new identity.

A long-eared bat stopped beside her, licked the jam on its lips and chatted with her: "Hello, newcomer? I haven't seen you before."

"Yeah, it's my first time here. Do you know them all?" Esther asked curiously.

"Almost, the ones with big noses belong to the Hodge family. The ones with pointed ears belong to the Fick family. Look at the black-haired ones in the middle, they belong to the Levi's family. There are also some that are not real bats. They should be the people below. They came out. They didn’t eat or talk, and they flew around stupidly, which made everyone unhappy. Just now they thought you were fake, so they were so rude to you. But I can tell at a glance that you are not, Those fake bats don't stop and rest."

Esther didn't expect such a talkative guy among the bats. She smiled at him, but the other party didn't respond, or maybe she couldn't see the response.

"Whose family are you from?" Esther asked.

"Me? I'm Stone from Cliff's family. Almost all the bats living in the Forbidden Forest know me. Where are you from?" Stone's eyes were watery, reminding Esther of the neighbor's pet dog .

"I came with the new student, as a pet." Esther said casually.

"No wonder. But now few students take bats as pets. I heard that there were many in the past, but it's not popular now." Stone nodded seriously.

At this time, several bats flew over and greeted Stone: "I heard that there is also a banquet in the basement classroom today, Stone, why don't you go and see it?"

"Don't lie to me, it's a banquet for the ghosts, there's nothing to eat, and it's freezing to death, what are you doing there?" Stone rolled his eyes.

"Wei Xi has never seen a ghost party, and she wants to see it. Aren't you going to pursue her? It's time to show off." The bats winked and said.

"Who wants to pursue her!" Stone grinned angrily, showing two fangs.

Listening to their twittering, Esther found that it was not Stone who was talkative, but the bats were very talkative.

They told Astor that there were werewolves in the Forbidden Forest, living far away in the upstream cave. The tribe of horsemen migrated continuously around the river. There is also a group of acromantids, which are very dangerous, and they hardly go to that area.Recently, a new four-wheeled monster has arrived, who does not speak or eat, and wanders around in the Forbidden Forest every day.

Esther and the bats ate and chatted until the end of the banquet, feeling that they had gained a lot.Stone enthusiastically tells Esther that he can play with him on a huge yew tree in the Forbidden Forest. If she was abandoned by her master, she could still move in with him, and there was plenty of room in the yew tree for a home.Esther politely declined his offer.

Just when Esther was about to leave, a gray bat flew in and shouted loudly: "Something happened, something happened. A cat upstairs was killed. Everyone run away."

When the bats heard his words, they flew out of the window or door as if fleeing for their lives.Instead of picking up the wand, Esther flew up the stairs to see what was going on.

When she arrived, she heard Professor Lockhart inviting Professor Dumbledore to his office.Esther hurriedly glanced at the scribbled writing on the wall - the secret room has been opened, those who are enemies of the heir, be vigilant. She didn't understand the meaning of the handwriting, and didn't have time to think about it. Instead, she flapped her wings and followed the crowd heading to the office.

Esther slipped in through the crack of the door and looked down from the shadow hanging in the corner. In addition to Lockhart and Professor Dumbledore, there were administrators Filch, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, Harry and his two good friends who were anxious.Esther wondered how Harry was here.

Lying stiff on the desk was a cat that Esther recognized as Filch's cat.Appears to be dead.Professor Dumbledore checked for a while and told everyone that the cat was only petrified, not dead.Filch insisted that Harry did it, and although Professor Snape didn't think Harry was the murderer, he also thought he was not innocent.Fortunately, Professor Dumbledore believed in Harry and believed that this matter had nothing to do with Harry.Esther breathed a sigh of relief, left the office while everyone was not paying attention, retrieved her wand and returned to the common room. She got too much information today, and she needs to sort it out.

She had meant to write to Aunt Connie the next morning to inquire about the Chamber of Secrets.Unexpectedly, the rumors of the Slytherins were enough to solve her doubts. The Chamber of Secrets was built by Salazar Slytherin, the founder of Slytherin House, and a monster lived in it.The door of the secret room can only be opened by the heir of Slytherin, and the purpose is to purify the students with impure blood.Esther didn't know if other than the Squibs and Mudbloods that the purebloods were talking about, if his mixed blood was also included in the cleanup. If so, there probably weren't many left in Hogwarts.

Orion seems to have heard more from the pure-blood clique.Legend has it that the Chamber of Secrets was opened about 50 years ago, and a student died. But no one knows more detailed news.

Este wanted to go to the library to check some old newspapers from that year, to see if he could find any clues. But she is a little busy now and can't get away.Since Halloween, students in other colleges have become hostile to Slytherins, and the corridors are full of gunpowder. In order to prevent the lower grades from being affected, several Slytherin prefects took turns patrolling the corridors between classes. At night, some simple attack and defense magic will be demonstrated in the common room for the lower grades to learn, so that even if they encounter danger outside, they can protect themselves or drag the prefects to help.

Soon it was the day of the Quidditch match, and Esther escorted a group of first-year Slytherins to the pitch to watch the game.Orion suddenly pulled Este's robe, pointed at a man with light blond hair beside Professor Snape and said, "Look, the one next to Professor Snape is Draco Malfoy's father, Lu Hughes Malfoy. It is the seven light wheels 2001 he sponsored."

The father and son are really alike, Esther pouted at the arrogant Lucius Malfoy.Esther didn't pay much attention to the whole game, thinking about the bad luck of Malfoy and his son.But at the end of the match she felt no need for revenge, and Draco let the Snitch be captured by Harry on top of his head, enough for him to be despised by all of Slytherin. Not to mention that Flint was mad, and it was embarrassing to yell at Draco in front of Lucius Malfoy.

She escorted the first years back, only to see Harry being rushed to the school hospital by his friends. She wanted to follow him, but he was surrounded by Gryffindors.Esther hesitated for a moment or gave up.

Disturbing news came the next day that a first-year student had also been petrified. This keeps the prefects even busier.Almost every recess and after school, Esther and Orion made sure the Slytherins were out of danger. They were not worried about the monsters in the secret room, but worried about the anger of students from other colleges.

Until the week before the holiday, outdoor classes were suspended due to the snowstorm.Esther finally had time to check some old news in the library. She was flipping through old newspapers when she heard a group of Hufflepuffs discussing what had happened at the Dueling Club last night. They all thought that Harry was the heir of Slytherin, and those who were killed were either Muggle-born or Squibs who had offended Harry.

In fact, Esther was there at the Duel Club event yesterday. The Dueling Club was the brainchild of the pushy Lockhart.Esther didn't want to go, but he invited Professor Snape as his assistant, and the Slytherins wanted to see how their dean would fight. It's a pity that Professor Snape defeated Lockhart with only one disarming spell. In order not to embarrass himself, Lockhart proposed to let the students present on stage and guide him beside him.Not surprisingly, he picked Harry to take the stage. And Ron Weasley, who was supposed to fight Harry, was replaced by Draco Malfoy by Professor Snape because his wand was broken.

Esther was a little worried about Harry, after all Draco usually performed very well in practice.Harry was doing really well, though, until Draco conjured a snake in front of him.Harry hissed something at the snake, causing everyone to panic.

She didn't know if Harry was speaking Parseltongue, and she couldn't understand it.It was Orion who immediately told her and Leona quietly that Harry spoke Parseltongue.Slytherin's house animal is a snake because Salazar Slytherin is a snake speaker. This is simply writing the words "heir" on the forehead.Esther knew he was in trouble.

Soon the vision became reality.Hufflepuff's comments were overheard by Harry. He bravely stood up and confronted them, but after all, one person couldn't beat the other group of people.Esther heard Harry's voice holding back his anger, and finally couldn't help but come out and stand beside him.

"I really wish someone would bring some brains out instead of gossiping," Esther said lazily. The sudden appearance of the prefect silenced everyone.Esther looked at the person opposite, and said mockingly: "Hufflepuff, did you leave your brain on the breakfast plate? Since everyone thinks that the Chamber of Secrets was opened by the heir of Slytherin, why did you grab a Gryffindor?" Don't let it go. If the heir of Slytherin is assigned to Gryffindor, I think Salazar Slytherin will jump out of his grave."

"What about his Parseltongue? He himself said he spoke to snakes!" a boy retorted.

"Baat to a sheep, meow to a cat, and have to say something snakelike to a snake. Are you a snake? Or do you get it? Are you sure he's speaking Parseltongue After finishing speaking, Esther also imitated Harry's voice last night, and then said with a sneer, "Well, I will too, I am still Slytherin. Do you think I am also the heir? Do you think about it now? run?"

"My family has been wizards for nine generations, and my bloodline is as pure as anyone else!" The boy's face was pale and his voice trembled.

"Huh, yeah? I can't remember." Esther smirked.Looking at the lower grades huddled opposite him, Esther suddenly felt guilty of bullying a child.

She glanced at Harry, "Are you going to spend Christmas here?" Without waiting for his answer, she turned and left the library.

"Thank you, Esther, not many people are willing to speak for me now." Harry said after catching up to Esther.

"But it may not be a good thing for you if I help you, after all, I am a Slytherin." Esther put down the disguise just now, looking a little worried. "Where are you going, I will take you."

"Go back and get the Transfiguration book, there's a class next class." Harry said as he stepped up the stairs and turned to another corridor.Suddenly he stopped, and Esther bumped into him without noticing.Harry said nothing, just stared straight ahead.Esther looked over his head: a student was lying motionless on the floor, terrified and stiff. Esther recognized Justin, who was threatened by a snake yesterday, and a black, smoking ghost was floating next to him. Nearly Headless Nick, the resident ghost of Ryffindor.Apparently the attack happened again.

Leave immediately, this was Est's first thought. But she pushed and Harry didn't push.

"We can't leave them here, we have to help them," said Harry seriously.

Esther was a little angry: "When everyone thinks you are a murderer, you still want to stay? Don't you know that protecting yourself is the most important thing?"

Harry also raised his voice: "Even if we are misunderstood, we can't sit idly by!"

Before Esther had time to argue with him, a door next to him was slammed open, and Peeves, who was fond of pranks, rushed in.

"Ah, who is this? Silly baby Potter and Slytherin are together, sneaking around—" Peeves was talking happily when he suddenly saw Justin and Nick.He stopped and stood up straight, took a deep breath, and was about to yell.

"Lock the tongue and seal the throat!" Esther pulled out his wand without hesitation and pointed at Peeves.Peeves was immediately speechless. He scratched his throat with his hands, stared at Esther, and made a curse gesture.

"Help us, break the spell for you," Esther threatened Peeves.

But Peeves didn't accept Esther's conditions at all, he gave Esther a fierce look, turned around and pushed open the doors in the corridor one by one.The professors complained about Peeves in the classroom.

"Damn it!" Esther cursed, quickly took off his robe and covered Justin. "Zombie float!" She levitated Justin, but Nick was having a hard time. She couldn't touch Nick, and she couldn't think of any magic that would move the ghost.

While he was worrying, Nick suddenly moved a little.

"It's the wind," said Harry, pointing to the window.

"Take off your robe," Esther said succinctly.

Harry didn't understand her, but complied anyway.Esther transformed Harry's robe into a fan-like shape and asked him to fan Nick, and he controlled Justin to turn the stairs to the school hospital.

Madam Pomfrey was shocked when she saw the person and ghost brought by Esther and Harry, and quickly put them on the hospital bed.

"What's the matter, another attack?" Madam Pomfrey asked in a low voice while checking.

"It seems so, ma'am. We're just passing by, and we don't know what's going on." Esther desperately tried to separate herself.

"Has anyone notified the principal and teachers?" Madam Pomfrey asked them while checking.

"Not yet, but everyone should know soon. Because Peeves saw it." Esther said.

"Then I trouble you to explain the situation to Principal Dumbledore now, after all, you were the ones who discovered it first. The password is Lemon Snow." Madam Pomfrey looked at Harry and Esther.

Esther nodded reluctantly, and led Harry to the headmaster's office.Neither of them spoke during the journey.Soon Esther and Harry were standing in the headmaster's office, but Professor Dumbledore didn't seem to be there.Phoenix Fox was very different from the last time we met, he looked old and tired.Maybe it's Nirvana Day, Esther thought. She was so focused on Fox that she didn't notice Harry being attracted by the Sorting Hat.The result was startled by the sound of Harry yelling "You're wrong".

Fox also seemed to be taken aback, and made a suffocating sound.Esther watched as Harry approached Fawkes, and just about to tell him it was a phoenix, Fawkes suddenly burst into flames. At this time, Headmaster Dumbledore walked in with a solemn expression.

"Professor," gasped Harry, "your bird - I can't help - he caught fire all of a sudden -"

Esther looked amused at Harry's flustered look, and wanted to comfort him. However, Professor Dumbledore quickly told Harry Fox that he was just reborn, and that he would regrow his beautiful feathers and return to his peak state. At that time, it will not only be able to carry heavy objects, but tears can also heal wounds.

Dumbledore walked to the high-backed chair behind the desk and sat down, his blue eyes looked at Esther from behind the semicircular glasses without saying a word.Esther tried her best to keep calm, but she couldn't help but feel irritated by being involved in the attack.

While Esther was waiting for Professor Dumbledore to ask questions, the door slammed loudly and was pushed open.Hagrid rushed in, furious, the dead cock dangling in his hand.Esther took a step back involuntarily.Even though the tall figure did not walk in front of her, she still felt a sense of oppression.

"Not Harry, Professor Dumbledore!" said Hagrid eagerly. "He can't be the murderer. I just saw him with Collins in a hurry and didn't say hello. But they were downstairs, I promise. Sir ..."

Dumbledore wanted to say something, but Hagrid only expressed his opinion loudly excitedly, the cock in his hand went up and down with his waving hand, and the chicken feathers were thrown everywhere.

"... Peeves is always spreading rumors, you know that, he doesn't say a lot of truth, you can't believe it..."

"Hagrid!" said Dumbledore, raising his voice, and finally stopped Hagrid. "I never thought it was Harry who attacked those people."

"Oh," said Hagrid, as the rooster finally stopped swaying its feathers, "well, I'll wait outside for orders, Headmaster." Hagrid lumbered out of the office, looking embarrassed.

"You think it's not me, Professor?" Harry's voice sounded brighter.

"Yes, Harry, I don't think so." Dumbledore said as he cleaned up the feathers on the table, "Miss Collins, maybe you can go back first. I know you just happened to pass by." Dumbledore said and examined He glanced at Esther.

Esther nodded, looked at Harry again, turned and walked out of the principal's office.

In the potions class in the afternoon, Leona couldn't wait to ask Esther about the attack on Justin and Nearly Headless Nick.Esther briefly described the scene at the time.

"What spell can make ghosts be attacked too?" Leona said thoughtfully.

"Maybe it's not a spell. According to legend, Slytherin kept a monster in the secret room, maybe it was a terrifying black magic creature." Orion analyzed.

"Like Medusa?" Leona asked.

"What's that?" Orion had never heard of this name.

"The Gorgon's youngest sister, Medusa, a gorgon, will be petrified if she makes eye contact with her. According to the myths and legends in the Muggle world, she was killed. Even if she wasn't killed, she couldn't live until now, right? said Esther.

"If you don't take your potions seriously, but study boring fairy tales here, I guarantee you won't be able to finish class." Professor Snape's angry voice came from behind.Esther hurriedly moved away from Leona, carefully watching the boiling liquid in the cauldron, even though its color was already perfect.

It was finally the end of the term, and Esther and her friends left school on the Hogwarts Express. In these turbulent times, few people want to stay at Hogwarts for the holidays, so there is a lot of activity on the train.Esther and Orion would patrol the train corridor from time to time, confiscating some dangerous toys like prickly balls.

Esther didn't really relax until he entered the house.Aunt Connie was very worried when she saw Esther's tired expression. She asked Esther with concern, "What's the matter, my lovely little girl? I used to talk excitedly when I came back, why does she look so tired this time?" ?”

Esther got himself a cup of hot tea and held it in his hand, and said slowly: "There were some attacks in the school. There were two students, a ghost, and a cat that was petrified. It's still where the attack happened A message was left, saying that the secret room was opened, and those who are enemies with the heir should be vigilant."

"You should write and tell me, it's too dangerous!" Aunt Connie's face became serious.

"I'm sorry, Auntie. I just don't want you to worry. And I'm a Slytherin, the heir won't make trouble with my house." Esther said pretending to be relaxed.

"That's not necessarily true! I've heard about the Chamber of Secrets, but I had graduated for several years at that time, so I didn't know very well. I heard that a girl died at that time, and the Ministry of Magic believed that a boy who was studying at the time was the murderer. He was imprisoned in Azkaban, and his name seems to be Rubeus Hagrid." Aunt Connie recalled carefully.

"What did you say his name was?" Esther asked in surprise.

"Rubus Hagrid, I remember that big boy. He was a lot taller than everyone else when he entered school. Although I was about to graduate at that time and didn't know much about freshmen, I was very impressed by that boy. I don't know Too convinced he's the murderer. He's a Gryffindor, and kind of bumbling, and doesn't look like someone who would have anything to do with a Slytherin, let alone an heir," said Aunt Connie.

"What happened later? Has he been in Azkaban?" Este wondered if it might be the same name, although the possibility is very small.

"Then I don't know, all I know is that they fired him and destroyed his wand. If it's not in Azkaban, I don't think he has anywhere to go." Aunt Connie sighed.

No, there's still a place to go, Esther thought of the tall gamekeeper at Hogwarts.Could it be that he did it this time too?Or was he really wronged in the first place? But whether it's true or not, it must be very difficult to be willing and successful in recruiting someone who has been in Azkaban into Hogwarts as a gamekeeper and key keeper.Esther felt that he knew Dumbledore again.

During the Christmas holiday, Esther finally put aside the pressure of exam preparation and the threat of heirs, and happily prepared Christmas gifts for everyone. This year she made a lot of chocolate herself to share with her roommates and friends.Sweets are the best way to relieve stress, especially this year when surprises are frequent.I gave Aunt Connie a hat that I knitted myself. Although it is not as perfect as the one bought outside, it can express my heart better. In addition to writing greeting cards for the teachers, Esther also wrote a copy for Dumbledore and Hagrid. After all, when he and Harry were involved in the attack the other day, Dumbledore trusted himself and Hagrid testified for himself.Although he was doing more for Harry, he was also helping himself. And Esther plans to visit Hagrid next semester to see if he has anything to do with the Chamber of Secrets.
