Reincarnated as Gotham's beauty trash
Chapter 28 Reincarnation Day 28
Jason and I were sitting on a lounge chair outside the clinic, and I looked down, all I could see was a small hair spin on the top of the boy's head.
I pretended to open my handbag, used the hanging ring to open a portal that only allowed one hand to pass through, and grabbed some snacks from the snack cabinet at home.
I piled the snacks on Jason's lap, "You didn't eat anything at night, so fill your stomach first."
The boy seemed to want to refuse, moved his mouth, and only whispered, "I have nothing to return to you."
Perhaps because of his personality and background, Jason has a sensitive self-esteem.He has not yet learned that there is no shame in accepting help from others.
I simply unwrapped the bag of biscuits and handed them to him, "This help is not free, and it won't be too late for you to return it to me in the future."
I smiled grimly like a capitalist.
"When you graduate from university, you will come to work under me. You help me approve documents every day, go to bed at [-] o'clock in the morning, and work seven days a week and six days a week."
Then he pinched his fingers, squeezed out a forced smile, and muttered, "I knew you were up to no good."
I pressed his shoulder and looked up to see the doctor push open the door of the ward and come out.
She gave me a wink, and I dismissed Jason knowingly, "Your mother is awake, go and see her inside."
Leslie Tompkins was the only doctor in the slums and the closest doctor to us.She has excellent medical skills, but she volunteers to serve the poor.
Leslie held the medical record, "She has been taking drugs for a while, and she has passed the initial stage of addiction, and has a certain tolerance to drugs."
She showed a headache, "My suggestion is to be sent to a drug rehabilitation center for treatment as soon as possible, but Catherine does not intend to follow my suggestion. If she is sent to a drug rehabilitation center, her history of drug use will be entered in the file, which may affect her work in the future .”
Powerlessness and resentment welled up in my heart, and I said angrily, "Then the last thing she should do is take drugs over and over again, she is not even in the early stages. You want me to keep a five or six-year-old in the same room as a drug addict in the house?"
After speaking, the helplessness and irritability in Leslie's expression increased, and I immediately realized that I should not vent my anger on this innocent doctor.
I turned my face away, "Sorry, I lost control of my emotions."
"It's good for young people to be bloody," Leslie said. "I know young people who are more stubborn and difficult than you."
She said earnestly, "Looking at the time, Catherine should have had a history of taking drugs when she was abused by her husband. I'm not saying that she did the right thing, but she is indeed one of the many victims."
"I see."
I said in a muffled voice, "But I still think it's best to go to a drug rehabilitation center for a period of treatment. I'll go and persuade her. If necessary, I can pay for it."
I packed up my mood and went into the consulting room.Jason was lying on his mother's bedside, with a visible attachment on his face.
This boy would do anything for his mother, even if she cheated on him and abandoned him.It never occurred to him why his mother, who went out to work, didn't come home with food.
Maybe he knew and was just willing to maintain the lie for Catherine.Jason wasn't a born thief, I'm just mad at Catherine for pushing him into this path.
The pale woman was stroking Jason's head and talking to him softly. She glanced at me quickly when I came in, then turned to Jason and said, "Could you get me a cup of hot water?"
"You all want to push me away, don't think I can't see it." Jason pursed his lips a little aggrieved.
He was a good boy in front of his mother, and despite some dissatisfaction, he quietly retreated from the room.
Now it's just me and Catherine, she greeted me awkwardly, "Thank you for your help, kind lady, please sit down first."
I didn't want to talk nonsense with her, so I sat directly on the only chair beside the hospital bed, and said straight to the point, "If you are concerned about financial issues, I can pay the full cost of treatment in the drug rehabilitation center."
"Not for that reason."
Catherine lowered her head in embarrassment, "It's criminal records and fines, [-] US dollars, we can't afford it, and it will be difficult to find a job in the future."
"You should have thought of that then!"
I almost felt sorry for her, "You didn't even know your own son when we brought you to the hospital."
I pinched the bridge of my nose, "He's still so young, his father is a scum, and he went to prison again. After losing you, he can only be a vagrant on the street. Don't you not know the situation of vagrants in Gotham?"
The road ahead of Jason is definitely not a smooth one.
Catherine covered her face in collapse, and it took a long time to squeeze out, "Sorry."
She raised her head, with tears in her eyes, and begged me, "I'll quit.drugs at home, and I'll get better for him. Once there's a trace on the file, we're done!"
I was disappointed, "Why didn't you think of this when you pretended to go out to work and go to the pharmacist to buy the medicine?"
I can't accept putting a child next to an addict, I don't feel at ease.
Just as I was about to say something, a small whirlwind rushed in from outside the door.
Jason threw himself on Catherine's side, looking at me in horror with blue eyes protruding from his thinness.
"Can you not take my mother?" he begged softly.
He was too young to understand the meaning of it.
All he knew was that it would please his frowning mother. He only knew that he had walked through the difficult days with his mother, but he didn't understand that his mother had abandoned him long ago.
I was about to speak when Leslie patted me on the shoulder from behind.
"Let them try," she said in a low tone, "You can only help here, otherwise no one will be able to save her."
I looked at Catherine, "Can you guarantee that you will never hurt him?"
Catherine's lips trembled, and she muttered for a while, "He is my son."
I tried my best to hold back my sigh, knelt down and handed my mobile phone to Jason, "If the situation is not right, just call me, or run to the clinic."
I stroked the little hair on the back of his head, "Protect yourself, and leave the rest to the adults."
Leslie reassured me, "I will check on them regularly."
Jason lowered his head and didn't dare to look at me, he only held the phone tightly, "I'm sorry."
I pinched his little face with a wry smile, "It's too early for a kid to say this, I'm still waiting for you to work for me in the future."
I walked out of Leslie's small clinic feeling a rare loss.
I don't know if I'm doing the right thing, maybe I should be tougher and put Catherine in rehab.Jason would be better off staying at my house or in Leslie's little clinic.
This is a class difference. As a member of the upper class, I can't understand their embarrassment anyway, and I can't truly empathize with them.
I walked past the first corner of the clinic door and was about to open the portal to go home.A black car was parked at the entrance of the alley, and the driver's window was slowly lowered before my heart became vigilant.
I ran over in surprise and looked down the car window, "Why are you here?"
The next second I realized, I began to rummage around, "When did you put a position on me again?"
Bruce stretched out a hand, twisted the earrings on my earlobe, then retracted his hand obediently, trying to change the subject, "Get in the car."
I opened the car door angrily and amusedly, "How about this, you can just give me the hypodermic injection and locate it, so there is no need for extra modification procedures."
"Is it really okay?" Bruce asked knowingly, "But even so, I still recommend you bring the other ones, just to be on the safe side."
"Shut up." I said ruthlessly, "If you say one more word about Christmas, you can spend Christmas with bats in Wayne Manor."
The vehicle backs off the alley.Bruce was as quiet as a quail with its neck curled up.
When the car was on the road, he pressed a button, and a new baffle rose up on the inside of the window.
"you are not happy."
"No."
"I just saw you in Leslie's clinic and was worried about you."
"You can call me directly," I grimly point out the loophole, "don't try to hide that you're violating my privacy."
I paused, "Honestly tell me, what little tricks have you done?"
Bruce glanced at me guiltily, "There are only three surveillance cameras installed outside the villa, and all the jewelry given to you have been remodeled."
I crossed my arms and tapped my arms impatiently, "What else?"
"that's it."
I raised my eyes coldly, "I don't believe it."
That look that concealed a trace of guilty conscience made my smile reveal a bit of ferocity.
"...your snack plate."
Bruce admits, "You sometimes carry candy around with you, so I did something in the lollipop's paper stick."
This answer was so outrageous that I couldn't get angry for a while.
I looked at him, looked at him again, and finally gnawed on my fingernails.
Bruce watches my face a little warily in the rearview mirror.Fortunately, I knew his recalcitrant nature so well that I wasn't actually surprised.
"You must be hiding something else." I said firmly.
He began to pretend that he was a poor mute.
I was silent for a while, and then started another topic, "I'm wondering if I did something wrong."
He listened to me quietly.
"Other people don't want to take the path I think is best, but I worry about the choice she made. Am I being too self-righteous?"
I thought about it, and changed to a more friendly rhetoric, "Too much of nosy?"
Bruce raised his eyebrows in feigned surprise, "I thought I was the most self-righteous nosy person in Gotham."
I corrected his wording, "It's the whole world."
"Well, the whole world," he admitted generously.
The car drove to the road downstairs from my house and stopped at a corner.
Bruce parked the car and looked at me with his hands on the steering wheel, "It's a pity that bats can be ranked among the top three most hated people in the world. If you want to compete with me, you need years of preparation."
"Wow," I said angrily, "I'm so confident."
He snorted, and stretched out his hand to brush my messy blond hair behind my ear, "Sometimes we don't have a chance to think too much before doing something."
"It seems that you are content with the status quo, Caped Crusader." I teased, "With you as the frontrunner, at least I will never be the least popular one."
"It's ok."
He didn't care about my tone of voice, and the hand that went around my ear held the back of my neck and made me lean towards him.
Gently, our two foreheads were pressed together.
I was reflected in those blue eyes.
"Don't you love me the most?"
I pretended to open my handbag, used the hanging ring to open a portal that only allowed one hand to pass through, and grabbed some snacks from the snack cabinet at home.
