Chapter 6 Tom Apologizes

Although Harry regretted it a little - he was so eager to get to know Tom that he told Tom about the wand as soon as they met - but after leaving the library, he changed his mind.

What Tom was thinking and what he was showing were two different things, yes; but when you thought about it, there was nothing wrong with that.First, Tom does have that kind of strength; second, if Tom's attitude in dealing with people is similar to "I don't need to do anything more to prove it to you", it is estimated that most teachers and students will be disgusted.

Asking himself, Harry felt that if he were Tom, he would be less likely to display such haughty self-confidence in public. You can get along well with everyone, why do you have to make trouble for yourself on purpose, right?

What's more, according to Tom's own words, he "has no background."

Thinking of the other party's family background, not only could Harry not continue to pursue Tom's appearance, but he couldn't even blame the other party for his vigilance.Although Lily would occasionally take him to visit Aunt Petunia's house, this experience was not enough for him to imagine what a Muggle orphanage was like, and it was not enough for him to imagine a little wizard growing up alone in an environment without companions...

At least Harry was sure that it would have been a disaster for his childhood if he had to spend time with Dudley as a kid.

Well, Hermione was obviously right - Professor Slughorn was right to want to keep it a secret. There was sympathy in this parentage, but Tom evidently didn't want any sympathy. Not only that, but Tom also became the best student Hogwarts has ever seen. For others, this title may be difficult to even shoulder to shoulder.

Thinking of this, Harry became depressed again.

Why did he think they could be friends with shared wands?Hermione is so good, and she also grew up in the Muggle world, and Tom didn't see her differently, did she?And his grades are not as good as Hermione's...

Also, is the way he introduces himself too abrupt? If he can be less aggressive, first get to know Tom through other channels - such as the Slug Club - and then mention the connection between the two wands after getting acquainted, will it make it easier for Tom to accept?

Harry knew he was being a little rash (Lily had half reprimanded half jokingly said it was like James), but he figured he could put others in their shoes. For example, he would try to avoid asking for money in front of Ron.Although he doesn't think Tom will be sensitive to money, if the other party only intends to maintain a superficial harmony and does not want to have any in-depth contact with him, he can respect the other party's decision.

As for the proposal that I overheard...

Harry sighed and quickened his pace. The smell of food wafted from the auditorium door, and he believed that enjoying a good dinner would make his mouth forget about other things.

But it was harder to pull off than Harry had imagined. Not because he had a problem with Tom, but because Tom was so hard to ignore—

In Charms class, Professor Flitwick said happily that Tom helped him decorate the classroom again today;

During recess activities, a large group of people crowded in front of the house hourglass, counting how many points Tom had added to Slytherin that day;

Even when he went to the library, he would often meet a large group of girls who thought they were hiding and watching Tom.

If Tom wasn't an easy person to deal with by nature, they certainly wouldn't be content to quietly observe the tall boy over the bookshelf or tabletop...

Harry thought bitterly, as he discovered that Cho was starting to take part in these activities, too.Although she doesn't show up every time, she is in the same grade as Tom, so the chances of meeting him are much more than others...

All in all, when you're in a Hogwarts with Tom Riddle, it's impossible not to receive any messages from him.Harry soon discovered that even avoiding Tom was a luxury, as Professor Slughorn had sent another invitation.

"Can I not go?" Harry asked Hermione sourly, clutching the parchment roll - this time tied with a beautiful gold ribbon. They were on their way to Magical Creatures class outside the castle when a Hufflepuff boy slipped this into him.

The brunette girl had already opened her scroll, and was racing against time to browse through the information on it. "I'm afraid I can't," she said thoughtfully, glancing back and forth across the parchment, "this looks almost like a banquet... I guess the professor invited all the would-be warriors this time."

"But we're not old enough, are we?" Neville followed behind, also grimacing, "I don't want to go either."

Hermione looked up from the scroll and looked at them one by one. "There's probably another way we could be useful," she said, sounding bored, "to see how well the professor gets on with those students."

Harry and Neville looked at each other, seeing helplessness in each other's eyes. "The worst part is I don't have a formal excuse," said Harry a little discouraged. "Training or something..."

"Wouldn't that be better?" Ron, who was walking on the far left, said suddenly, with unnatural joy in his voice, "Professor Slughorn will pay more attention to those people, and you can— —” He waved his hands indiscriminately, “Let go of your belly and enjoy yourself, isn’t that what the saying says?”

Harry couldn't take it anymore. If he said he didn't want to go half because of Slughorn and half because he didn't want to meet Tom, Ron wouldn't believe it, and neither would anyone else... He glanced cautiously at Hermione , the two people's eyes met out of the corner of their eyes, and they both turned to silence wisely.

Although Harry was reluctant, the two lessons on protecting magical creatures came to an end quickly. They returned to the castle together with the chattering army, and said goodbye to Ron near the porch. The three of them put their schoolbags back in the tower, changed their clothes as required in the invitation, and finally moved slowly to the bottom of the castle.

Professor Slughorn's office space looks much larger than the average teacher's office.Gold or green draperies hung from the top, and bright lanterns adorned with elves flickered among them.Laughter, singing and music are intertwined, and people's conversations are also loud.

Harry soon realized that this was really a party.Apart from the students, he also found one or two professional Quidditch players in the crowd, and more unfamiliar faces. Not far away, Professor Slughorn was patting a skinny wizard on the shoulder enthusiastically, and the sparkling wine he was holding in his other hand swayed out with his movements. They seemed to be talking about the book the wizard had written.

"We seem to be late," Neville looked around like Harry, his tone was closer to congratulations, "That's good, let's find a place to hide first."

Harry couldn't agree more.Better wait until you get a chance to show yourself to Professor Slughorn, he thought.

Hermione didn't respond right away. She kept staring in a certain direction, and suddenly asked: "Can the sixth and seventh grades invite their companions?"

"What?" Harry asked reflexively, looking around. Then he saw Cho Chang holding Cedric Diggory's arm, both of them with flushed cheeks, talking and laughing, looking like they were going to the dance floor.

Harry's heart sank suddenly, as if he had stepped on the ground.Hermione had told him before that Cedric was a regular at the Slug Club, but Cho wasn't.He looked around again, and sure enough, he found that all the senior students were standing together in pairs.

Doesn't Qiu like Tom?

But Cedric might have invited Cho first?

After all, it was hard for him to imagine which girl Tom would invite to the party, and the tall boy didn't seem interested in dating at all...

Before Harry could think any further, Hermione started urging him and Neville across the room. The three struggled to squeeze through the crowd and stopped right at the end of the dining table. The bartender behind the table frowned and looked at them for a while, then picked out ordinary butter beer from the assortment of drinks.

If Ron had been here, he might have protested that at least he should be given mead, but Harry took his glass without complaint. At the moment, he didn't care what he was drinking; he wanted to find Tom, so that he could verify the accuracy of his guess.

He had thought it would take some work, since the room was full of people. But the truth was much easier than he imagined: there were several girls surrounded by the drunken Professor Trelawney, who seemed to be listening to her talk about the influence of Mercury on love fortune, but they were actually peeking not far away; In that direction, Tom was standing with Professor Crouch. The two were talking in a low voice, and the content of the conversation could not be seen from their expressions.

The first thought that popped into Harry's head was that Professor Crouch hadn't given up on signing up Tom for the Triwizard Tournament, but it didn't look like it. Discuss illegal activities. And, besides that, they could talk about a lot of other things...

Harry forced himself to look away.Curious though he was, he didn't want Tom to catch him spying on him again, like he had done in the auditorium. After scrutinizing all the absent girls—Cho and Cedric were out of sight again, and he did his best not to wonder if they were under some mistletoe—he was sure Tom hadn't invited anyone. "Hermione," he tried to tell the brunette girl about his new discovery, "I think..."

"Hello, Harry."

When the polite voice sounded behind him, Harry was so startled that he almost spilled his butterbeer. "Ah..." He turned around in a hurry, and responded quite guilty, "Hello, Tom."

Neville had gone somewhere, Hermione and Harry were the only ones standing at the table.Tom nodded to Hermione, then to Harry. "I have something to say to you." He raised his thumb and pointed to the corner of the room, "Can I trouble you to come with me?"

Harry didn't know what Tom wanted to talk about, and reflexively shot Hermione a distressed look. But Hermione blushed and didn't seem to notice his reaction at all.He had no choice but to put down his glass and follow the tall boy across the room.

There is a tall potted plant with a very tropical style, which effectively isolates the noise of the crowd.Tom stood still first, watching Harry stop after him. "I'm sorry to call you over rashly."

Harry shook his head quickly. "It's okay, I just don't know..." He looked at Tom questioningly.Because he was facing the light source sideways, half of the opponent's face was sunk in the shadow, making his silhouette appear more handsome.

Tom also looked at him, his expression seemed a little complicated. "You don't know what I want from you?" he asked softly, but without any doubts. "I find you very forgiving, Harry."

"What 'tolerance'?" Harry blinked in confusion, completely failing to understand the logic behind it. "What are you talking about, Tom?"

Luckily Tom wasn't planning on keeping it secret. "Actually, I should have apologized to you long ago."
