Chapter 555
It has been five years since Guangji came out of Fahua Temple. Like Ji Mo, he grew up in Fahua Temple when he was young. He has read all the scriptures in the Sutra Pavilion of Huasi, and sorted them out one by one. In the process of sorting out, he found many problems that Ji Mo also found.
fallacies that seem inevitable.
The original scriptures should have come from oral transmission.
The Buddha taught his own principles, and his disciples understood them, sorted out a system, and spread it widely. Therefore, the dialogue between the Buddha and his disciples is often seen in the scriptures. Through dialogues, a complete set of Buddhist theories is described.
There is also a purely reasonable part, describing what to do to be good, what to do to lead people to be good, how to transcend, how to do to lead people to transcend, how to look at cause and effect, how to look at reincarnation, and how to look at the suffering of this life What has been brought about is how to be open-minded, how to let go, how to sublimate one's soul and reach a higher level.
The narrations in these aspects are different in the scriptures. One school says the truth of another school, and that school is the way of another school. Whose truth is true?In many situations, there is always an alternative.
How to deny what is recorded in one of the scriptures, and how to affirm that what is recorded in the other scripture is true?
From the Sutra Pavilion in Fahua Temple, Guangji did not find the answer.
That year, when he asked for it, he said to the host in this way: "I have a great wish, and I wish to survey the world's scriptures and unify them into a unified theory and a consistent one."
He believes that the inconsistency in the scriptures is the biggest reason why Buddhism is divided into several sects. If this is solved, Buddhism may be able to see great prosperity.
For his own belief, Guangji has a very high piety, and for this reason, he is willing to practice it personally.
After that, he set off from Fahua Temple, and he would go in every temple he passed by to see the scriptures in their collection, whether they were hand-copied or printed, he would read them, no longer memorize the repeated ones, and carefully record the different ones. Where possible, the sources of those scriptures were also asked.
For five full years, Guangji has been doing this thing. He has visited countless temples and recorded all the scriptures in his mind. In addition, he also copied, not all of them, but only the key ones. Several strips save time and are easy to carry.
In the end, he would return to Fahua Temple, write down all the scriptures he remembered in his mind, and also search for the master's inspection of the contradictory places that were transcribed.
Guangji being called "Zen Master" does not mean that his virtues and knowledge have reached the point where he can be called a "teacher".
Masters of the Dharma, masters who are qualified to lecture are the ones who have the right to interpret and are more trustworthy candidates for appointment, Guangji has always believed so.
He is so humble that even though he has been fully ordained a long time ago and is a real monk, he still does not think he is qualified to accept disciples. In his heart, to accept disciples, at least he must be a mage, and he cannot teach scriptures to others. What should I teach as a disciple?
There is a long way to go, but I still search up and down, dare not be humble, dare not be respectful, follow the path of the predecessors, dare not be biased, and dare not be true or false, how can I dare to accept disciples?
Dare to lead people up?
Dare to lead people forward?
Dare to make people bow their heads?
Tortured from the bottom of his heart, the answers he got in his heart were all negative. Guangji looked at Ji Mo with bright eyes and shook his head slightly. It's not that you are not good enough, but that I am not worthy of teaching.
"Don't talk nonsense!" The monk on the side scolded again, his face was so gloomy that it was dripping with water.
"You don't know what I know, so how do you know I'm talking nonsense?" Ji Mo still has tender feelings for the great monk, but he is not so good-tempered when he is not familiar with this monk. He prevents people from worshiping a teacher and ruins his practice. Damn, "This is my master and apprentice." If you are someone else, don't talk nonsense, it will damage my practice, and the Buddha will not allow you."
"How can you talk nonsense about Buddhist things, kid?" The monk laughed angrily. The little novice, who is a big fart, knows how many Buddhist scriptures, how dare he speak Buddhist words?
"The Buddha's heart is the heart of the people, and the Buddha's words are also the words of the people. Those who dare not speak, how dare to practice?" Ji Mo showed a posture of being fearless, but his hands were sweating. In Guangji, no matter how good the calculation is, it is not sure until the end.
Zen Master Guangji, may you help me practice?
Ji Mo looked at Guangji with burning eyes, if there was brilliance, it would light up the night.
The brilliance in that gaze was reflected in Guangji's eyes, he folded his hands together, looked down and thought, not saying anything about the Buddha, would he dare to accept such a disciple? Are you ready to teach?
"I recite scriptures every day, but I have never seen a Buddha."
Guangji opened his mouth, his tone was flat, so that the monk next to him couldn't get angry anymore, and instead showed surprise at his somewhat rebellious words. What does this mean?
"Since you have seen the Buddha, why don't you worship?"
The "not worship" here seems to be prostrating, but it fits what Ji Mo said before, asking him why he didn't worship Buddha as his teacher.
Theoretically, all ordained monks are Buddhist disciples, regardless of each other. Why does a monk have to worship another monk as his teacher?
Ji Mo felt chills in his heart. The meaning of these words was that most of them were negative, but he was involved again. If he really had a relationship with Buddha and knew that he had a relationship with Guangji as a teacher and apprentice, it was Buddha himself who said, what is his virtue? Yes, the Buddha valued him so much, if he really valued it, why didn't he just accept him as a disciple, instead let him worship Guangji as his teacher?
What is the most illogical here is that no such "revelation" has been received in Guangji.
Many people may remember the most similar conversation between several apprentices and Tang Seng in Journey to the West. Could it be that "the Bodhisattva asked me to wait here for the Buddhist scriptures from the Eastern Tang Dynasty, worship him as a teacher, and go to the West to seek the true scriptures." , Sun Wukong once said this to Tang Seng, Zhu Bajie once said this to Tang Seng, Monk Sha once said this to Tang Seng, even Bailongma once said this, important things are repeated more than three times, it is still fresh in people's memory At the same time, I also forgot one thing. The Bodhisattva once told Tang Seng that he would have disciples waiting on the road.
In other words, this is a master-student apprenticeship where both sides are ventilated, so everything seems so logical and destined by God.
Ji Mo simply applied this kind of logic, thinking that cause and effect are pre-determined, and there is a message from the Buddha, and no one will interfere with it. Even if Guangji has no intention of accepting disciples, he should be moved when he hears such words. Buddha, you must believe in this relationship between master and disciple.
However, if there is such a fate, how come the master didn't get any hints and didn't know about it, but the disciple opened his mouth to tell the truth here?
It's impossible to get hot, let alone such a big thing.
The sound of the rain kept on, and the humidity was damp and cold. Ji Mo only felt that there was a chill in his bones, and he was careless.
It's not so easy to make a big banner out of tiger skin. Is it true that if you make up a white-bearded grandfather, you can become a disciple of a fairy and reach the sky in one step?
Wrong, so wrong.
Ji Mo raised his head and looked at Guangji's indifferent face. I don't know if the profession of sutra preacher started in Guangji, or it has existed for a long time. He had never heard of any sutra preachers when he was in this small temple. Ji should be the first person to die in one generation, which shows how difficult it is, since this is the case...
When things have come to this point, it is impossible for Ji Mo to overturn all the previous words. Lying is also a violation of the precepts, and punishment is the second best thing. Apprenticeship will be really dirty.
Gritting his teeth, he was determined to hold on.
"The Buddha has seen me, and I will worship if I don't."
If you devote yourself to Buddhism, you are already a disciple of Buddhism. If you don't worship Buddha as your teacher, aren't you a disciple of Buddhism?
This answer is weak, but it can barely be explained. Considering Ji Mo's current physical age, a child cannot tell such a logical and mellow lie.
If it is not a Buddhist school, if you are in any family, I am afraid that you can accept disciples here. Don't worry about why the Buddha didn't enlighten the master. Such a child, if he is so abrupt, will never be taught by someone. If there must be, Buddha is probably more reliable.
But Buddhism is different.
Faith is pious, and there is no room for any pretense. If you don’t believe in it in your heart, even if you eat fast and chant Buddha continuously, you still don’t believe it.
Those who distort the classics are often more hateful than those who do not learn the classics.
Just as every organization hates betrayers more than enemies, Guangji also cannot allow anyone to add stories to Buddha at will.
Yes is yes, no is no, he has traveled all the way, five years of hard work, what he asks for is a "truth", it is by no means vague and specious, let alone this kind of unreasonable perjury.
Opening his eyes again, he stared at Ji Mo. The light in the corridor was dim, and those eyes seemed to be revived. There was no light in the black pupils, and Ji Mo couldn't see his own shadow in them. No other existence can be seen, it is pure black, if you torture the black hole in your heart.
"What is a Buddha?"
This problem is even more serious.
A lot of things crossed Ji Mo's mind. He had read many short stories about Buddhism. Here, he had a good starting point. He also read a lot of scriptures. The scriptures in the Sutra Pavilion I haven't read it all, but I understand it. If you want to describe this concept, whether you copy the scriptures or copy "heaven and earth, I am the only one" can give people a good answer.
But, would such a good answer be what Guangji wanted?
What is he asking for, what is his desire, what is he hoping to hear?
I made a mistake, I should get to know this person first, and then try to find a way to become a teacher. Haste makes waste, haste makes waste!
Mixed with regret, there was another item that was extremely firm, no matter what, today's master, he is determined.
"Buddha is the thought of all living beings."
You also chant Buddha, I also chant Buddha, what is Buddha?Everyone may have a different answer in their hearts, so who is right?
A thousand people still have a thousand Hamlets in their hearts. If those people are not believers, how many interpretations of Buddha should there be when they are put to believers or Buddhists?Ji Mo didn't know what Guangji was thinking, and he wasn't sure that he could guess his thoughts, so he should be firm in his thoughts.
The impetuousness in the eyes faded away, and the standing posture of the whole person became more straight. I recite my Buddha, it should be like this.
