Chapter 1 Summer

In the third month after I came to the island, a huge typhoon caught up with the end of summer.

I just watched a meeting between senior and the inmate through the surveillance, and I, who was following senior to the exit of the shelter, stopped when I passed the window.

The old-fashioned building originally used as a prison, the walls are still unpainted and exposed reddish-brown bricks, but the windows have been replaced with new large pieces of transparent glass. Standing by the window, the magnificent sea view of the locked island occupies the full view.

The brilliance of the sun was driven away by the dark clouds, and the black vortex swirled above the sky, even the turbulent sea water was somewhat gloomy.

Looking at the ominous scene, I couldn't help but move closer to the glass: "Ah... it seems that a rainstorm is coming."

The senior turned around.

"It's a typhoon." The older woman was not surprised, and smiled brightly. "It happens every year. It's surprising that it came so late this year."

"Island, can you hold it?" I was a little worried.

——This isolated island on the sea is calm and needs to rely on supplies from the island twice a week. Once a large typhoon comes, it seems that it will immediately fall into a bad situation.

The guard who rushed over hurriedly said when he passed by us: "I have prepared supplies before. You, go back to the dormitory immediately."

The man who ran through the corridor like the wind disappeared. Senior and I looked at each other and curled our lips.

Even after three months, I can still recall the cold face of the watchman when I was first tricked into the island, and I couldn't feel good about it no matter what.

The senior shrugged: "This guy is like this... well, Xunguang, are you used to life on the island?"

After taking another step, Senior and I walked together. Because we were shoulder to shoulder, Senior seemed to put my shoulders smoothly.

I was silent for a moment, startled by the sudden flickering lights above my head, and my tone was vague.

"That's it..." I really couldn't say [very adaptable] against my will, so I turned my head and looked at the wall.

Another window moved into the line of sight, and outside the window was an increasingly drowsy sky. The sea water seemed to be swirled in by clouds, and the strong wind threw branches, leaves and gravel wantonly, hitting the glass with a "bang bang".

The senior's attention was drawn, and he frowned.

"This typhoon seems to be more severe than previous years. Can the building hold up?"

I opened my mouth, feeling that something was wrong.

The "broken stone" that hit the glass for the third time was somewhat oversized. In the astonished eyes, the clear sound of glass breaking interrupted what I was going to say.

The window is broken.

The blowing wind soaked in the fishy smell of the deep sea, like an iron hand pinching my throat. In the moment of suffocation, the messy flying hair, leaves, and dust separated my vision. I panicked and saw my head falling straight down. A young man—instinctively, I leaned over and grabbed the window frame, reaching out from the broken hole.

The black-haired young man threw himself into the embrace of the earth with a happy smile like morning dew and thin snow.

"Wait—!" I almost screamed, my fingers brushing the bandage around his neck and collar, but I didn't grab anything.

The young man who was disturbed by the cry moved his eyelashes slightly, his silent iris pupils showed a gap, and his light eyes fell on me.I can even see the corners of his mouth contracting in displeasure—I can see so clearly, probably thanks to the adrenaline surge after witnessing the scene of the falling building, and my head desperately stretching out from the hole.

The senior stood behind me blankly, with a trembling tone: "Xunguang...you come back first..."

I pressed the broken glass with both hands to protect my neck, which was about to turn red if I was not careful, and pulled my head out of the hole with great difficulty. Regardless of the wound on my hand, I rushed downstairs.

"Senior, call the doctor!" My face was flushed with blood rushing to my head from excitement, and I shouted loudly while running, "I'm going to save someone!"

——Sure enough, I shouldn’t just believe the job advertisements on the Internet. Being tricked into this island must be the beginning of my life’s nightmare...!

I ran like a Bolt possessed, panting and hating, and rushed into the wind and rain outside the shelter. On the ground not far away, the face of a young man lying in a pool of blood was facing my direction, with his eyes half closed.

My vision was blurred by the falling rain, I didn't know if he was looking at me, so I just wiped my eyes indiscriminately, stepped on a puddle of water and ran towards him, shouting to him in the most firm tone of my life: "Hey, hold on Hold on! The doctor will be here soon, and you will be saved!"

——This is the first time I met Osamu Dazai.

In retrospect, it was not so much the beginning of a romantic drama as it was a mistake in some criminal investigation or horror film set.
