Chapter 44 Pauline & Tom

-11-

When she stepped into the auditorium the next day, Pauline always felt something subtly...off.

"Have you gotten back together?" Audrey tugged at her arm, excited, "Look, look! Riddle is here! Great, my astronomical model is here!"

Pauline looked in the direction she pointed. Riddle was walking towards the Ravenclaw table in his silver and green Slytherin uniform. Looked distraught.

Pauline looked at him admiringly for a while, "So?" she asked, "How is my relationship with Riddle, and what does it have to do with your astronomical model?" She said, turning her head suddenly alertly, "You guys You won't open the market with us, will you?"

Audrey showed an embarrassed expression, "Uh, um, that..."

"Ha," Pauline sneered, "I seem to be right." But everyone could see that she didn't get angry because of this, but asked Audrey very interestedly, "How did you bet?"

"Bet on whether you will get back together, and how long it will take." Audrey glanced furtively, and whispered in her ear like a thief, "I bet you will get back together in a week—— Pauline, I Whether you can save enough money to buy that astronomical model depends entirely on you."

Pauline gave her a half-smile look.

"Miss Prefect, you're cheating." She drew out, "As a Ravenclaw, we have zero tolerance for cheating."

"Cheating on exams and cheating on betting are two different things." Audrey said cunningly, "The former is stupidity, while the latter is wisdom. They cannot be generalized."

Pauline snorted softly.

"Good evening, Pauline." Riddle walked up to her and sat down—Pauline's roommate moved aside very consciously, and joined the other Ravenclaws, buried her head in the plate, and looked out of the corner of her eye. Watch them sneakily.

Pauline glanced at him, passed a small hammer into his hand very smoothly, and pointed to the nut plate in front of him.

Riddle's handsome posture froze for a moment.

"Can't use magic?" he said nonchalantly. "I'm sure it's a very good idea to give them a splinter—if you don't want to whip out your wand at the table, Pauline, I'm always at your service."

"I don't like crumbled ones," said Pauline. "I don't care how the shells are removed."

She said, making a "please" motion, pushing the nut plate in front of Riddle, showing expectant eyes.

Riddle was silent for a while, and Pauline guessed that he was trying to restrain his emotions. He had to say that he had made great progress in this matter, because soon he took out his wand as if nothing had happened, and tapped on the nuts one by one. Edge the pan, breaking them apart one by one.

This spell is not too difficult, but it requires a certain degree of precision to remove the shell while keeping the flesh intact, and it took Riddle half a minute to solve them one by one.

Pauline glanced at him with admiration, and then generously distributed the nut plate to other students. The Ravenclaw table was full of noise and excitement. Someone teased Riddle, thanking him for the hearty bento he gave his girlfriend.

Riddle squeezed his wand tightly in his pocket.

"How long are you going to eat?" He maintained his superficial calm, leaned close to Pauline's ear, and gritted his teeth.

Pauline couldn't help curling her lips.

"Don't be so anxious." She also imitated Riddle and whispered to him, but her voice did not lower her voice at all, "Tom, we still have a lot of time later...enough."

Chichi muffled laughter sounded around.

Riddle's expression twitched angrily, and then he suddenly stretched out his hand, wrapped around Pauline's back, wrapped her shoulders tightly, and almost pressed her against his shoulders—it could be seen that Pauline choked slightly. Startled, she wanted to say something, but Riddle pushed her head down hard with his chin.

"Not enough," he said domineeringly, and with a firm grip on Pauline's shoulders pulled her up.

Now half of the Ravenclaw students turned their heads to look at the two of them.

Riddle's expression didn't change a bit.

Pauline looked at him in surprise, her eyes widened slightly, and she walked back and forth on his face with that light and shallow look, as if trying to understand why he did this suddenly, but she obviously found nothing—— Discovery put Riddle in a good mood.

He hooked the corner of his lips slightly.

"Oh," she looked at him thoughtfully for a while, and she didn't make things difficult for him—which almost flattered Riddle, "Since you are so impatient, let's go." She asked her roommate to bring her schoolbag Going back, Riddle walked out of the auditorium calmly, even obediently.

Riddle put his arms around her shoulders, almost feeling his hands were burning, as if he was not holding Pauline, but a red-hot iron, or a hot fire... But it seemed that it was not just because of danger or Alert or something.

He smiled nonchalantly, and was about to take his hand away, but Pauline put her hand, quite naturally, into his pocket - the one with the wand.

Riddle's expression froze for a moment.

Reflexively, he reached into his pocket and took Pauline's hand.

Her hands are cold, slender and light, like a handful of finely crushed snow.

Riddle almost let go of her like an electric shock, but quickly tightened his grip, never wanting her to touch his wand again.

Pauline didn't respond.

"The hospital uniform is more convenient." She said casually, "at least there are pockets, and pockets are necessary in this kind of horrible weather—my hands are almost numb from the cold."

Riddle glanced at her.She was wearing a gray-blue coat, fine in texture and beautifully cut, but probably due to design considerations, there were no pockets on the dress.

It occurred to him that he hadn't seen Pauline wear any one piece of clothing so many times since he'd started paying attention, and he could remember every outfit, every detail, of her outfits these days.

"It's surprising that this kind of thing can stump Miss Sweet." Riddle sneered coldly, "I thought you were at least a wizard."

"Indeed, the Warming Charm has become the most popular charm in winter." Pauline said softly, tilting her head slightly. "However, I just don't want to hold a wand right now, nor do I want to cast the Warming Charm." She stared Del's side face, with a faint and subtle smile on his lips, "I now feel that some people's hands are more useful than warming spells."

Riddle's expression froze for a moment, and he wanted to let go of her hand subconsciously, but the palms hadn't parted yet, and he felt that this might be Pauline's trick, intending to lure him to let go of his hand in a panic, so as to laugh at his fuss.

Thinking of this, he retaliated and squeezed her hand tightly.

Pauline was delighted by his repeated attempts to please.

She tried to raise her hand, but Riddle held her down hard, preventing her from pulling her hand out of his pocket.

"You are so naive." Pauline commented objectively.

Riddle stared at her coldly.

Pauline prodded his arm lightly with her other hand and shook their hand slightly. She didn't say anything, but Riddle stared at her for a while, with a strange look on his face, as if he was hesitant about why he did this, and let her take his hand out of his pocket.

"Do you know how to warm the other hand as quickly as possible?" Pauline asked Riddle softly, lifting their hand slightly.

Of course he knew, Riddle thought irritably, the quickest way would be to give her a Warming Charm.

But he and she stared at the hand they clasped in mid-air, and said nothing—Riddle didn't know why.

"It's like this—" Pauline said softly, and under Riddle's burning gaze, she inserted her slender fingers into his five fingers one by one, and then slightly bent.

Fingers intertwined, palms facing each other, hers was slightly cool, while his was hot.

She looked up, and Riddle looked straight at her.

His face was expressionless, his pupils were dark and deep, like a silent night, one couldn't help thinking that there would be something frightening hidden inside.Pauline could fully imagine how dangerous and violent it would be if he tore away this frighteningly cold calm.

Even so, Pauline could sense the hesitation under his calm detachment—he was still worried that this was another game of hers, and that if he reacted in any way, he might be ridiculed and humiliated by her.Of course, Pauline wasn't afraid to admit that she did enjoy teasing Riddle, which was one of her favorite... little pleasures of late.

"Maybe I should thank you for not throwing me off in the first place?" Pauline joked.

Riddle seemed suddenly reminded by her words, but after Pauline finished speaking, she shook his hand and stuffed it back into his pocket.

It could be seen that he hesitated for a moment, and his eyes quickly scanned Pauline's face in turn, as if trying to read her real intentions from her subtle expressions, but he found nothing.

For a moment he wanted to let go of Pauline's hand, but he tightened it quickly, as if he wanted to hold it but couldn't hold it, wanted to let go but was reluctant, and repeated.

Pauline just stared straight ahead without giving him a second glance.

Riddle could see nothing in her reaction.

He squeezed her hand tightly in retaliation.

Their skirts rubbed against each other as they walked silently side by side through the stairs and corridors, and Pauline felt her hand grow warm and hot as the one that held her tightly, and for a moment her senses even There was no way to tell her which was hers and which was Riddle's.

She lifted her arm slightly, and pulled it out of Riddle's hand, who reflexively increased the pressure, only to let it go quickly.

"Before completing the topics we are interested in, we must at least face the reality - this is a difficult and rare magic. With our current connections and financial resources, it is difficult to gather materials in the fastest time." She Said in a calm tone, "At this time, you have to think of something else."

"Any other way?" Riddle's eyes swept across her face quickly, looking a little hesitant, not sure if she had some tricks to torment him.

"You have the best relationship with Professor Slughorn. You should be familiar with his office, right?" Pauline leaned close to his ear and said mysteriously, "How about you steal some materials? I'll help you hold him back."

——Riddle felt that he had every reason to suspect that this was her real purpose of approaching him.

The author has something to say:

I always feel that they are already in love, but it's not that at all (sigh)
