Bad days as neighbors with Sherlock Holmes
Chapter 100 City of Stars
Facts have proved that the earl's concerns are completely unfounded.
When the advisor to Buckingham Palace came out early the next morning to issue a statement explaining the meeting yesterday, the reporter had almost completely left Elena's relationship problems behind.
While they couldn't believe their ears, they quickly pondered the content of the headlines, preparing to replace the content before the first issue was printed.
The first female architect who was named by the Queen herself, "I expect her to inherit the Earl's title and become the next court designer"!
This is much more attractive than any emotional dispute!
The queen personally affirmed Ms. Molson's building, and clearly agreed with her architectural diversity theory, calling on everyone to pay more attention to the use of the building itself, rather than too much emphasis on designing its external appearance. grooming.
It was undoubtedly a thunderstorm.
The people of the old school fell silent. Looking at the newspapers of the previous few days, they were almost ashamed and didn't know what to say, and their arrogance even weakened by three points when they went out.
The people of the new faction rejoiced. Not long after the report that the Queen had summoned Elena came out, they also sent their suppressed articles to the newspaper office.
For these equally offensive articles, the newspaper office did not reject anyone who came, and arranged special sections to slowly publish them.
People are also very happy with these reports-Eileen's affairs are too legendary, compared with those old-school architects whose eyes are higher than the top, on the contrary, her reputation is much better among ordinary people, who would not want such a Who wins?
The arrogance of the old school was suppressed, but it was more than that.
In less than three days, those committee members who were biased towards the other side in this newly launched competition almost resigned voluntarily, and some claimed to be sick, and even some were arrested for corruption and liquidated their property. For a while, more than half of the jury changed.
Most of the people who can sit in this position are older, and they are generally quite "aware of current affairs" in dealing with people.
When those "time-conscious" people who were wrong before leave, the rest are more cautious. The new ones are also well-known architects in the architectural field. For the remaining judges, they are considered to be the best of the younger generation.
Originally, the contest also tried to invite Earl to be a judge, but Earl flatly refused.
"If I participate, that would be bad," he said quietly to the housekeeper afterwards, "then I must be partial to Elena. Then what if someone says that I am a shady? Elena followed me in terms of architectural talent. , that is absolutely capable of winning this highest honor in a certain year."
His own Royal Gold Medal is still hanging in a special exhibition room, in the kind of position that all guests can see when they come.
The butler nodded superficially, then calmly fished out the candy he was trying to hide in his sleeve.
"Then I still hope Miss is more like Madam," he said tactfully.
One adult is enough for him to supervise, if the lady also follows the adult and fails...
The housekeeper shook his head, firmly feeling that this was impossible.
The Earl would be wrong.
"Yes, indeed," he asked thoughtfully, "Do you think Elena has stayed up too late lately? Isn't this damaging the beauty that Yvette left her!"
He hurried to the nearby pharmacy, "I'll buy some medicine for her!"
After running for a while, he suddenly turned his head, "No, I went wrong, it should be this way!"
The butler looked helplessly at the earl running around excitedly, took a few quick steps, and followed him into the pharmacy.
Before walking into the low eaves, he subconsciously glanced at the sky.
The dark clouds were so heavy that they almost overwhelmed people's heads, and the biting cold wind blew the clothes of passers-by, causing them to involuntarily speed up their pace.
"It's going to snow," he said.
In the end, Elena won the gold medal of the Stirling Award in the RIBA awards competition as she wished, as well as the gold and silver medals of several other awards.
However, although he was nominated, he missed the Royal Gold Medal.
This golden medal was taken away by another old and well-qualified contestant. He presided over the construction and protection of thousands of buildings. Convinced.
This is indeed the ending that Elena expected.
After all, the Royal Gold Medal is more biased towards the architectural achievements of an architect in a period, and she does not need to be defined for the time being, it is too early.
The Stirling Award is more focused on the single building, and she is happy enough to win this award.
As the focus award of this style dispute between the two parties, this is enough to explain the bias of the jury and the public.
She didn't even count on the Royal Gold Medal at first, and being nominated was already a surprise for her, not to mention that this year's competition was obviously not good for her.
Maybe, in a few years?
Elena planned to have a good celebration, the joy of defeating her opponent and the [-] pounds bonus she got made her so happy that she couldn't help turning around.
After getting this lovely medal, she gave up her image for the first time, hung the medal around her neck, and jumped a few times.
Eric, who was standing aside, couldn't help but want to remind her to pay attention to her image, but was stopped by little Brutt.
"It suits you so well!" Standing under the stage, he opened his mouth and boasted, "It should be hung around your neck! It reflects your beauty so unrivaled!"
Then, a lot of compliments poured out as if they didn't want money, and Lydia, who was blown to the side, couldn't bear it, and twisted his arm severely, so that he stopped talking in pain.
Elena on the stage took a look.
"Go back and give you a raise," she said quite straightforwardly.
Little Brut ignored the complicated sights from the side, and shouted, "Thank you boss! The boss is so kind!"
Hmph, the neighbors must be envious of his salary increase!
Then, because she was too unconventional, she was ruthlessly dragged down by Lydia.
The surrounding jury and award presenters couldn't help but look at the back of Elena leaving.
I heard that this young female architect has a calm personality, and she is also experienced and tough in dealing with others. It seems... the rumors are not to be believed.
Still a lively little girl.
After the end of the annual awards, it is basically the annual fixed vacation time.
Elena treated the staff of the firm to a good meal, and gave everyone a vacation.
As for herself, when she attended the dinner party, she met several young ladies who had studied photography. They came from extraordinary backgrounds and had a good family education. They almost hit it off right away.
She walked with the wind in those few days, happy like a bird flapping her wings, and she didn't talk about the next job, she ran around with these photographers.
Elena thought maybe she could also leave some photos for future generations!
Although many people have already photographed these buildings, she still wants to find a few professional architectural photographers. This time it's okay, there is no need to ask someone to go to the photo studio of the newspaper office, the ready-made candidates are here, and she can teach them how to choose a good-looking angle.
And time flies, including holidays.
It was time for the staff of the firm to continue working again, and Holmes was going on a long trip.
Before Holmes left, he slipped a newspaper in his arms and prepared to leave with the suitcase.
Watson was the only one who saw him off at the door and knew about his entrustment this time, and he didn't call Elena on purpose.
Elena left the house on time before eight o'clock in the morning. It is said that she was buying breakfast, and she must be busy with her work.
He didn't intend to tell her about it, just treat it as an ordinary departure.
Holmes took two steps, reaching out to hail a carriage, but found Elena standing across the street, looking at him quietly.
She was wearing a shirt and a dark blue knee-length skirt, which looked simple and plain. The dark brown felt hat on her head matched her slightly curly hair, which gave off a bit of elegance.
He paused for a moment, while Elena trotted in front of him.
"Wait a moment," she said, "Sherlock."
Holmes looked down at her.
"How could you..." His tone became a little difficult for a moment.
Why is she here?
"I remember, that hair tie," Elena said, "do you still have it on?"
She grabbed Holmes' arm, and Holmes let her move, looking gentle and obedient.
Sure enough, the purple headband that was already a bit whitish was vaguely wrapped around his wrist.
Elena quickly untied the knot he tied, Holmes tried to stop it, but she blocked it with a vicious voice.
"Why, didn't you return it to me?" She said unhappily, "You didn't even tell me the date of departure..."
Holmes was at a loss for a moment.
He hesitated for a while, then put the box by his feet, and put his arms around her.
Elena shook her head and pushed him away.
She reached out and roughly pulled off the headband she was currently using to tie her hair, tied it around Holmes' hand, and tied the faded hair tie at the back of her head indiscriminately.
Then gave him another push.
"Let's go," Elena said, "I'm going to the office."
Holmes nodded.
"I'll be back," he promised earnestly.
Elena blinked, "I'll wait for your return."
Holmes straightened his hat casually, glanced at Elena, turned around without hesitation, and blended into the hurrying crowd.
His windbreaker raised an arc with his movements, like a fish returning to its place, and soon disappeared.
Elena watched his leaving back and didn't speak for a while.
The members of the firm behind her filed out from the alley behind them, looked at her, and at Holmes.
"Ah, this..." Little Brut hesitated a little, "Why don't you have lunch today?"
Originally, Elena invited guests today to celebrate the completion of the new office building, but she forgot her things at home, and everyone accompanied her back to pick them up. I didn't expect this to happen.
He felt that the boss might not be in a particularly good mood today. Wouldn't it be just to have dinner with them at this time... to force a smile?
Elena shook her head, "Let's go."
She had already recovered her original mood, looked at the worried look of the group of people around her, and said calmly, "It's just eating."
She didn't need reassurance, and being away from work in London was commonplace for the pair's work.
Only this time it seems
Seeing that most of the people didn't react, she showed a rather malicious smile in the eyes of everyone, and specially reminded, "I have to go back to work overtime after eating."
Little Brut shuddered.
He looked at the people around him, and unanimously decided to eat this dinner with the momentum of "the last lunch".
Another year of winter.
This year's London snow fell especially early and especially heavily.
Elena sat alone in the attic in her remodeled hut, rarely not drawing pictures, but flipping through the "Annals of Architecture of Great Britain".
This year, she has done a lot of designs, and there are many architectural drawings praised by everyone. Recently, she received news that she seems to have been nominated for this year's Royal Gold Medal.
She was 23 years old, and it had been two years since Holmes left.
Two years ago, Elena had completed the medal she and the Earl promised, but she still hasn't returned to her family's architectural firm to work.
Probably after she received the Royal Gold Medal this time, Elena would feel that she was qualified to take over the work of the merged firm.
After all, the Earl has already received one piece, so she can't afford it.
But there was still no news from Holmes.
Not only is there no news, he is almost in a state of nowhere.
Elena once asked Mycroft, but only got the reply of "he's fine", instead, she was taken to a few nice restaurants by him.
No one around her came to test her attitude. After she strongly rejected the so-called "meeting and making friends with young people of the right age" last year, the earl also began to keep silent on the marriage issue.
This was obviously a good thing for Elena, but she couldn't be happy.
She was still waiting for Sherlock to come home.
After sitting for a long time, Elena's hands and feet became cold because there was no ignition.
She planned to go downstairs for a walk by herself, and light up the fireplace on the first floor by the way.
Mrs. Hudson visited her old friend's house today. Before leaving, she told Elena that she would stay there for a day or two and would not come back soon.
She told Elena to eat from a restaurant outside, or have the restaurant deliver it to her door, and told Elena where the ingredients were.
Just now Dr. Watson was also called away by an anxious gentleman. It seemed that someone in his family was seriously ill and begged him to go and have a look.
Elena also told him to remember to bring a lantern, and he did too.
The sky was already getting dark, and snowflakes were constantly beating around the windows. Elena moved down slowly, feeling that the house was too cold for a while.
She thought about it and sighed.
The fireplace on the second floor had already been blazing in such a severe winter a few years ago, but now that Dr. Watson has left for a while, it is still warm.
The silent corridor only echoed the sound of her footsteps alone, and Elena couldn't help but recall the previous winter.
I will consciously go downstairs with snacks and blueprints, and while listening to Watson and Holmes chatting, I will slowly conceive of my new plan.
Occasionally, when Sherlock Holmes comes, he will also play a piece of violin. The melodious music fills the warm room, making people feel lively.
Elena sighed and lit the fireplace on the first floor.
Then she rolled up her sleeves, took some dishes from the cabinet, and planned to cook for herself.
She found a bag of rice from the cabinet by accident, which was originally from India. This was a surprise for Elena, and she decided to make fried rice.
Simply pour in the oil and rice, stir fry and then add the eggs and diced carrots. When it is almost cooked, Elena plans to simmer for a while according to her previous experience.
She simply turned down the fire with a bellows, put the lid back on, and sat on the side planning to rest for a while.
This meal probably couldn't be finished, so she served a portion, and the rest could be kept for warming up after Dr. Watson came back. Mrs. Hudson was away for the past two days, so the two alternated to leave meals for each other in this way.
She exhaled and sat down on the chair.
There was a faint knocking sound from the window next to her ear, but Eileen didn't care.
Probably someone's child, she thought uncertainly.
…Otherwise, who else would be so idle, coming to knock on the window in heavy snow?
Since she counted one by one a few years ago and threw all the so-called "thug groups" who tried to find fault into prison, people who are not well connected with the East District basically go around here now.
Use a T-square to knock out a group of people alone, they can't afford to provoke them, and they can afford to hide.
But to Elena's surprise, that person didn't give up because she ignored her, but continued to knock on the glass window rather stubbornly.
It was loud enough.
Elena stood up a little impatiently, and took out her ruler, intending to teach that person an unforgettable lesson.
When she looked up, she realized that this figure was unexpectedly familiar to her.
The T-square slipped from her hand, but Elena didn't pick it up, and ran to the door by her instinct.
She pushed the door hard, and it was Holmes in front of her.
Holmes walked over from the window and looked at her gently. The snow on his shoulders was disappearing quickly under the heat from the room, and finally turned into wet black on his coat.
Elena opened her mouth to say something, but she didn't know what to say for a moment.
There is so much I want to tell him.
She subconsciously showed a silly smile, and stared at him for a while.
Then when Holmes looked at her with the same smile, he rushed into his arms regardless and wrapped his arms around his waist.
"You're back," she murmured.
Through the clothes, she could feel the body temperature and smell of the person in her arms, his unique coldness and the smell of tobacco.
"Yes, I am back," replied Holmes.
He stretched out his hand and rubbed Elena's hair, causing Elena to hug her tighter.
"You've lost weight," Elena said, wrapping her arms around his waist and refusing to let go.
Holmes had no choice but to move slowly into the room, closed the door, put the box aside, threw the gloves, hat and coat on the hanger, and put his arms around her again.
The two snuggled up and sat on the sofa that was smoky from the fireplace. Holmes hugged Elena in his arms and let out a satisfied breath.
"I always feel that after you come back," Elena nestled in his arms and rubbed the tip of her nose against his face, "the air is full of happiness."
She felt that the air was the smell of home, the smell of completeness.
There's carrots, peas, scrambled eggs, and... a mush smell? ?
Elena stood up abruptly, "Not good! My fried rice!"
She hurried into the kitchen.
No wonder it smells! She forgot to turn off the fire!
Holmes looked at her and almost couldn't help laughing.

The Stirling Award, this award was only set up in 1966. I made it up here deliberately, assuming that it was newly established and someone intervened in it. Then the Royal Gold Medal began to be issued in the middle of the [-]th century.
