Chapter 7 Dinah
On the first day Jesse lived in the castle, he couldn't sleep on the bed because of his habit. He climbed up a tree to sleep in the middle of the night, and Joe was terrified when he found him not in the room the next day.
Dinah was drinking tea quietly in the garden, and she frowned slightly when she saw Joe running towards her.
"Dinah, Jessie's gone!" said Jo, wiping away tears. "Where's he gone?"
Dinah took a sip of tea calmly, "Don't worry, Joe, look up."
Joe looked up, and there was a small figure on the thick trunk of the tree.
"Jesse!"
Joe called his name.
no respond.
"Okay Joe, why don't you go up and see him?" Dinah sat down and continued drinking tea.
This early in the morning, it's still a little crazy.
Jessie came down and saw Dinah looking at him sullenly.
"Dinah, don't look at him like that, let him eat first." Joe touched Jessie's head and said, "From now on, you can't climb trees, understand? There is no danger here, and you don't need to defend yourself gone."
Jesse nodded half understanding.
After that, no matter how many times Jesse climbed the tree, he would be caught by Joe, but Joe never told Dinah, because Dinah would definitely scold Jesse if she knew about it.
Joe said that Dinah was actually a nice person, but she was a bit stubborn and followed the rules very much.
Jesse actually likes Joe and Dinah very much. Joe is gentle, never impatient, very tolerant to him, and also likes to play with Jesse.
But Dinah, she likes to enjoy the early morning tea time by herself, likes to stay in the library all day, likes elegant and artistic things, every time she sees him doing something wrong, she will look at Jesse with a black face, But never say anything.
Dinah and Jo looked exactly alike, Jess thought, but he had never seen Dinah smile.
Dinah's temperament is cold, and only when she gets along with Joe, there will be a faint smile on the corner of her lips.
Jesse felt that if he wanted to get along well with Dinah, he needed Dinah's approval.
So that day, he asked Dinah to study.
Sitting at the desk, Dinah didn't seem surprised at all. She just looked at Jesse quietly, and then said after a while, "Learning doesn't happen overnight. If you choose, you can't give up."
Jesse nodded.
"Starting tomorrow, wait for me in my study every day after I finish my morning tea," Dinah said.
Joe was very happy to know that Jesse was willing to study, but it was a pity that Jesse couldn't spend too much time playing.
So Joe would send them all kinds of desserts to comfort them after they finished studying, and asked Jessie how he felt and whether he was used to it.
Dinah couldn't stand it anymore, "Joe, why don't you care about me?"
"Well, Dinah, did you give Jess a hard time?" said Joe.
"Jo!" said Dinah, "forgetting old ones with new ones!"
Joe would just look at Dinah with a smile, "Dinah, don't be jealous, Jesse and we are family."
In the following days, Jesse passed all the assessments given to him by Dinah, but Dinah still treated him the same as before, without any difference, but said to him after correcting the papers, "It's not bad, keep working hard .”
Jess wanted her to react, but it wasn't supposed to be this way.
Jessie wanted her to be like Joe, to celebrate his accomplishments, give him encouragement, even give him a hug.
He likes this kind of thing called family affection.
So Jessie mustered up the courage to ask Dinah, "Why don't you want to praise me?"
Dinah looked at Jesse calmly, "What kind of compliment do you want? Like Joe?"
Jesse looked at Dinah and said nothing.
Dinah said, "I won't praise you like Jo. I'm not her and I can't be like her. I will only praise you in my own way."
"Is it using words like not bad?" Jessie spoke to Dinah like this for the first time, cold sweat broke out on the palm of his hand.
"What do you want to hear, you're amazing, Jessie, I'm proud of you? Something like that?" Dinah said deadpan.
Jesse opened his mouth, as if something was stuck in his throat, and he couldn't make a sound.
"Jessie, I have my own way of expression, you can't turn me into Joe, it's just that you haven't been able to meet my requirements for you."
Jesse bowed his head in silence.
Dinah sighed softly, "You're doing pretty well." Then she patted him on the shoulder, "Keep working hard."
Then Dinah left the study.
Jesse froze in place for a long time without recovering.
Joe heard Jessie say that Dinah praised him during afternoon tea, and Joe said, "Actually, you did a good job. Dinah is just not good at words, and she is still very satisfied with you."
Jesse wondered, "How do you know?"
Jo blinked and said with a smile, "Jessie, we're twins, and I even know her better than she does."
Jesse nodded.
Then Joe put another plate of butter cookies in front of him, "Eat, Jess, I know you like these."
"Okay," Jesse said.
Joe was silent for a while, then said, "Jessie, you can actually call me sister Dinah, we are family, and I am older than you, you can call me sister Dinah."
Jesse froze.
"Don't you like it?" Seeing his strange reaction, Joe changed his words in a panic, "If you're not used to it, you can call it what you want, not mine."
Jessie shook his head, his eyes were red, and the tip of his nose was also red. He looked at Joe, "No, sister, I'm used to it, I like to call it that."
