Letter from the Mermaid Prince
Chapter 6
He said solemnly: "Asa, you stay here, and I will do the rest. Okay?" I was taken aback by him, and before I realized it, I had already nodded in agreement.Mr. Clarence seemed relieved to see my response. He patted my head, then turned around without hesitation, and plunged into the raging waves.
I waited alone on the reef, watching the figure of Mr. Clarence rising and falling in the waves, appearing and disappearing from time to time.I was terrified, I knew the ocean's impermanence, but I didn't expect it to be so relentless-a mountain-like wave destroyed the ship in an instant, before I could blink an eye.I am now more worried about Mr. Clarence than about the unfortunate prince and sailor who were overboard.I was terrified of what might happen to him.
In the monstrous waves, I kept a close eye on the figure of Mr. Clarence, for fear that he would disappear from my sight in the next moment. When pressing down on the rock again, Mr. Clarence finally reappeared in my sight with two figures in his arms.
I took a long breath, jumped off the reef and swam over hastily, and helped Mr. Clarence drag the two people to the shore.
It was not until the prince's head touched the sand that I could truly believe that Mr. Clarence was back safe and sound.
I quickly put down the prince, turned to Mr. Clarence, and circled him several times.I need to make sure that he wasn't injured in the slightest during the rescue just now.
Mr. Clarence seemed to know my worries, patted my head, but didn't say anything, but pulled me to hide behind a huge reef, observing the unconscious prince and sailor.
When the sun gradually emerged, the two people on the beach woke up.As soon as they woke up, they searched for each other, and when they saw that the other was still alive beside them, the prince and the sailor wept and hugged each other.
As I had seen them, on the beach, in the daylight, they hugged each other, exchanging one kiss after another intimately.
But this time, the pain of losing the prince was completely gone in my heart, replaced by heartfelt joy.
"They're so happy, aren't they?" I looked up at Mr. Clarence next to me.
Hearing my words, he lowered his head and looked at me intently, his beautiful black eyes shining brightly in the sunlight.I gotta be honest, it was kind of glitzy.
In a blur of light, I saw Mr. Clarence slowly open his mouth.
"You will be so happy too, don't worry." His deep voice echoed in my ears, like the singing in a conch, drifting away leisurely.
Grandma is calling me again, and I will tell you what happened after that next time.

Dear Poseidon:
Sorry for not writing to you for so long. For some reason, I've been out of time lately, and I hope you'll forgive me for my neglect.
Not sure if you remember the last shipwreck.Since that incident I have had a vague feeling about Mr. Clarence.Don't get me wrong, the feeling here is not love, but respect mixed with admiration. You must know that Mr. Clarence showed a completely different side from the usual in the shipwreck. His calm judgment and action ability made me amazed, and at the same time, the gentle words he gave me made me feel warm. The sum of all these events made me feel that Mr. Clarence is really a very noble mermaid.
With such thoughts together, after a long time, I always worried that I would lose face in front of Mr. Clarence. What would he think of me who was humble and insignificant? Will you think I'm stupid and impulsive? The more I think about it, the more scared I feel.I began to feel ashamed to look directly at Mr. Clarence. As long as I met his gaze, I would look away unnaturally, and even subconsciously find excuses to escape when I was talking to him. This led to a somewhat awkward atmosphere between me and Mr. Clarence.
Mr. Clarence was keenly aware of my embarrassment, but said nothing.
One quiet night, Mr. Clarence called me outside the palace.
I followed him anxiously, not daring to look at him with my eyes down.We made our way in silence until we finally came to the top of a sandy seabed. There, a school of small flounder is playing.
"Asa," said Mr. Clarence, pointing to one of the smaller flounder, "is it a flounder?"
I nodded.
Mr. Clarence beckoned to the flounder, beckoning it to swim. After the other party stopped in front of him, he gently placed a group of aquatic plants on top of the little flounder's head.
"Now," he asked, turning to me, earnestly and seriously, "is he no longer a flounder just because he has a clump of weed?"
I stared at him blankly.I didn't understand why he asked that, but I shook my head anyway.
"The same, just because I saved the prince, am I different from before?" Mr. Clarence asked immediately.
No.I still shake my head.
"So," he held my shoulders and forced me to look up, "I'm the same as before, you don't need to panic, I'm still the same person."
The look in his eyes is so sincere, and the words are so convincing, but I always feel strange, but I can't find it.
I thought about it, finally nodded, and said solemnly: "I see, Mr. Clarence, I will not run away from you again."
Seeing my reaction, Mr. Clarence let out a sigh of relief. He patted my head: "Actually, I was also wrong. I shouldn't make you feel that way."
I shook my head and took his hand.Mr. Clarence is always so thoughtful, and how crazy I am by comparison.
After that little clump of weeds, Mr. Clarence and I were finally back in our old ways, even closer.Mr. Clarence is now more of a confidant of mine than his previous role as a guide. He seemed worried that I would feel that way again, so he became more calm, stayed by my side all the time, and would communicate with me no matter what. This intimacy both sweetened and irritated me (even my grandmother made fun of me, saying that Mr. Clarence and I were like two tangled clumps of bohemian weeds, inseparable).
By the way, Mr. Clarence also said that although the misunderstanding between us has been cleared up, as an apology, he wanted to throw a big ball for me (actually he didn't need to, after all, it was my problem, which made me I'm a little embarrassed), and it can be regarded as making up for the missed birthday party. His proposal was unanimously agreed by his grandmother and sisters.
So you see, I may not be able to write to you again for a while, as I am getting ready for the prom that is coming up.If possible, I would very much like to invite you to my ball.
I will try to find time to write to you.
Sincerely Asa

Dear Poseidon:
Can you imagine what happened!Just yesterday, at the ball I've been looking forward to for so long, I suffered the most intolerable humiliation of my life! This is simply a devastating blow!I even felt that my blood was burning with anger!
With trembling hands that I could hardly restrain, I wrote down the reason of the matter completely, maybe my words are incoherent, please forgive me.
You must know how much I was looking forward to this ball. I prepared with all my heart and soul, and the ball was exactly as I expected, without any mistakes. It is grand and lively, gorgeous and dazzling-transparent glass refracting sunlight redecorates the walls and ceiling of the dance hall; huge shells of different colors are scattered around, and the dancing blue flames in them illuminate the entire ocean ; Through the amber window, countless schools of fish, big and small, are scrambling to swim towards the palace; the beautiful singing voice is like a sea wave hovering above the ballroom, which was uttered by the guests, and they danced and sang on the rapids.
What a perfect dance.I hid in a corner, amazed by everything in front of me.I felt so satisfied that I almost spun merrily—this perfect dance, it was just for me!
But it was such a ball that ended up being ruined by Mr. Clarence!
Oh, Mr. Clarence, how I misread him!
I hid in the corner full of joy, and suddenly, something touched my shoulder.I turned around and found that it was the dolphin that had been carrying letters for me and Mr. Clarence. It came to my ear and told me that Mr. Clarence was waiting for me in the garden.
Why is Mr. Clarence waiting for me in the little garden? Is there something special?Although I didn't understand why he did this, I hurried to the garden out of trust.
Sure enough, as soon as I entered, I saw Mr. Clarence waiting under my favorite red weeping willow, swimming around constantly, looking anxious.
Seeing me coming, Mr. Clarence exhaled for the first time, which was different from his usual, and I was even more surprised. It's just that he waved at me, so I had to swim over.
When he was about to get close to Mr. Clarence, he came up to meet him, looking a little eager.
It was so unnatural that I stopped and looked at him incredulously.
Mr. Clarence ignored my questioning gaze.He grabbed my shoulder and looked away. After a long time, he whispered: "Asa..." Then he stopped
