[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind
Chapter 73
"what happened?"
Avery's voice brought Eleanor back to reality. Before that, her mind was full of what happened last night. She hadn't slept nearly the whole night because of it.
"What?" She said hoarsely, looking at Avery with bloodshot eyes in confusion.
"You look dazed, didn't you sleep well last night?" Avery asked.
Eleanor opened her mouth, and she froze suddenly because she saw Tom coming in from outside the hall.He sat not far from Eleanor.
Eleanor couldn't help staring at him all the time, hoping to see something from the subtle expressions on his face. But she didn't see anything in the end.
"What are you looking at?" Avery asked, frowning.
"It's nothing." Eleanor quickly looked away.
At this time, she heard a sentence that made her tense up again.
"By the way, I'll tell you a strange thing." Knott said, "I just knocked on the door of Carlo's bedroom, but no one answered me."
"He's not the morning type," said another boy.
Eleanor suddenly felt that the bread for breakfast had become very difficult to swallow.
They don't yet know what happened to Carlo.
Jesus, how on earth did Tom "handle" that yesterday?
"He didn't come to breakfast either," Knott said. "What's the matter with him?"
"He'll show up, don't worry," said Tom quietly.
He won't show up.thought Eleanor. She couldn't eat any more, so she pushed the bread aside in front of her.
"I'm going to the classroom." Eleanor whispered.
"Isn't it too early?" Avery looked at her strangely.Abraxas also looked up from the newspaper and stared at Eleanor curiously.
Eleanor was uncomfortable being stared at by them, "See you in the classroom later." She lowered her head and hurried past the long table, and glanced at Tom's direction by the way.
She found Tom looking at her too.So she couldn't help but stop for a while.
Then she was sure to see Tom give her a slight nod of the head.
——what does this represent?
she thought anxiously.
It means that he has "handled" Carlo well? But what did he do to him?
The only thing Eleanor can guess is that he hid Carlo.
Hiding in a secret room? No, that's impossible, because the entrance to the secret room has been sealed by the professors, and no one can open it.
When passing by a tall floor-to-ceiling window, Eleanor looked towards the direction of the great lake in the distance.
Throwing it in the lake is a good idea.she thought to herself.
She suddenly realized that she was actually thinking about a suitable "place to dump the corpse", she couldn't help shivering, and then walked quickly along the corridor.
When get out of class was over, Eleanor deliberately found an excuse to leave the classroom first. She hid aside and waited quietly, and when she saw Tom appear around the corner, she took a step to stand in front of him.
"Hi, Tom," she said with mock relief, forcing a forced smile.
"Eleanor." Tom stopped immediately, showing a faint smile.
"Could you come over here?" Eleanor pinched the corner of her clothes uneasily, and gestured to the broom next to her with her eyes.
Then they got into the narrow broom closet.
Eleanor began to feel that this was not a good place to talk because the two of them were so close together that she could almost feel Tom's breath on her face.
"What do you want to say?" said Tom softly.
"You know what it is!" Eleanor said anxiously, "It was the incident yesterday! Where did you hide him?"
"Who am I hiding?" Tom raised his eyebrows.
Eleanor raised her head and stared at him, and she realized that the other person was taller than herself unknowingly.
"You know who I'm talking about! Stop playing dumb!"
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Tom calmly.
Eleanor gritted her teeth, "It's Carlo! Did you hide Carlo?"
"Oh——" Tom showed an expression of sudden realization, "You mean Carlo? He really didn't show up today. I think he probably went to the school hospital because he had a bad stomach?"
Eleanor stared at him in surprise, "You're kidding, aren't you? Don't tell me you don't remember what happened yesterday!"
A slight smile appeared on the corner of Tom's mouth, and he said in a relaxed tone, "You look terrible, Eleanor."
"Of course it sucks, I didn't sleep all night last night," she said despondently, "Please, tell me what the hell happened after yesterday, or I'm going to really go crazy—"
The more she spoke, the more excited she became, and finally she couldn't restrain herself from raising her volume.
Tom suddenly lowered his head and reached out to press her head on his shoulder.
"What?!" Eleanor struggled subconsciously.
"Hush—" Tom whispered in Eleanor's ear just as he did last night, "Calm down, Eleanor."
"Is anyone in there?" A boy's voice suddenly came from outside.
Eleanor immediately shut her mouth tightly.
After a few seconds, she saw from under the crack of the door that the boy finally moved away.
Eleanor breathed a sigh of relief.
She rested her head quietly on Tom's shoulder for a moment, then whispered hoarsely, "I know I should tell the truth, but I don't want to at all. What the hell am I going to do?"
"What truth?" said Tom quietly.
"God, you know what I'm talking about, don't ask me any more! Damn it, Tom! I killed someone, don't you have any idea about it?" Eleanor said angrily. She wanted to push Tom away, but he hugged him tighter.
"Don't worry, I told you, everything will be all right," said Tom softly. "You didn't kill, Eleanor."
"but--"
Tom lowered his head, put his finger on Eleanor's lips to silence her, and his deep black eyes watched her quietly in the dim light.
"Come with me," he said finally.
Eleanor followed closely behind him, "Where are we going?"
"School hospital," said Tom succinctly.
"Why do you want to go there?" Eleanor asked.
"To see Mr. Carlo," Tom answered.
Eleanor felt her heart beating wildly, "He—why is he in the school hospital?"
But Tom didn't answer her again.
Soon, they arrived at the gate of the school hospital.
"Oh, you are here to visit friends." Mr. Martin nodded to them tiredly, "He's lying on the innermost bed."
Eleanor went to the bed.She held her breath and could almost hear her own heartbeat clearly.
She turned to look at Tom, who gave a little chuckle, then reached out and lifted the curtains.
Carlo was lying on the bed, his face flushed, his chest heaving quietly.
"...He's not dead?" Eleanor couldn't believe her eyes.
"After you left last night, I found out that he just fainted." Tom whispered in Eleanor's ear, "It's a pity that your spell failed."
Eleanor simply didn't know how to express her mood at this moment. She stared blankly at Carlo on the bed, and it took her a long time to wake up.She turned her head and said a little annoyed, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Sorry." Tom said, still smiling, not apologetic at all, "I just wanted to surprise you."
"Well, what a surprise!" Eleanor wanted to get angry, but found that she didn't have the strength at all.She was so weak now that she could hardly stand up.She swayed a bit and was held up by Tom.
"I'm dizzy. I'm going to sit down," she muttered.
Tom supported her and sat her down on the bed next to her.
Eleanor supported her forehead and sighed, "Then what should I do next? If Carlo wakes up, will he say that I attacked him?"
"Of course not," said Tom calmly. "He won't remember anything."
"Poor child." Mr. Martin's voice suddenly came from behind Eleanor, "He has a very powerful memory spell, and now he doesn't even remember his own name."
"Did they find out who cast the spell on him?" asked Tom, looking up.
"No." Mr. Martin sighed. "He doesn't remember anything, and certainly won't tell us who cast the spell on him."
"That's good." Eleanor thought to herself.
After leaving the school hospital, Eleanor suddenly felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
Carlo lost all his memories and got the punishment he deserved, and she didn't really kill herself.
She stopped suddenly and looked at Tom's back in front of her.
Anyway, Tom had done her a great favor.she thought.
"Thank you." She said suddenly, "Thank you for what you did for me."
She expected Tom to answer her with "You're welcome" or "Happy to help" or something.
But Tom just turned, held out his hand to her, and said calmly, "Come on, I don't want to miss lunch."
Eleanor quickly followed up.
When he was about to reach the hall, Tom suddenly said, "You know what? I originally wanted to kill him."
Eleanor turned to look at him in surprise.
"I even said that spell," he went on, his face so calm that he didn't seem to be talking about killing him, "I wanted to kill him, so I was sure that my spell must be more effective than yours. He must die under my wand."
"Why?" Eleanor couldn't help asking, and the "why" she said was why Tom wanted to kill Carlo-she couldn't believe he did it for her.
"But I changed my mind," replied Tom, with a sudden sneer. "He's not worth killing him. And you want him alive, don't you?"
Eleanor was silent.
Did she really want Carlo alive?
The truth is, she doesn't care if he lives or dies. She just didn't want Tom or herself to kill.
"I just know you did the right thing." Eleanor whispered, "He's not worth killing him, he's a scumbag."
Soon, word spread throughout the academy that Carlo had lost his memory.
If anyone could have guessed what happened, it was Lestrange. For he had been gazing at Eleanor with a terrible look all through dinner.
Eleanor pretended not to notice his gaze at all.She knew he was just guessing, and there was no evidence linking her to Carlo's amnesia.
Avery's voice brought Eleanor back to reality. Before that, her mind was full of what happened last night. She hadn't slept nearly the whole night because of it.
