[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind

Chapter 123 Chronic Poison

A month later, Eleanor discovered that she might be pregnant.

The test result of the school doctor Martin is positive.Eleanor was overwhelmed with excitement, Mr Martin said, as she was three months pregnant. Then she told Tom about it almost immediately.

"What did you say?" Tom who was reading suddenly raised his head and asked with a frown.

"I said, I'm pregnant," replied Eleanor, "please, isn't that something to be happy about?"

Tom remained expressionless for a second, then suddenly broke into a smile.

"Oh, Eleanor." He stood up from the chair, walked up to Eleanor and hugged her, "Yes, this is indeed a happy event."

Elinor had the vague feeling that Tom was not as happy as he seemed, but she pretended not to notice.

"What do you think we should name her?" she said cheerfully, pushing Tom away.

"Her?" Tom raised his eyebrows and smiled. "She doesn't have to be a girl."

"Okay, you're right. But I prefer her to be a girl." Eleanor replied with a sigh, "I've already thought of several girls' names, and you can choose one of them."

Tom was silent for a moment. "Of course, I will."

Eleanor was very much looking forward to the baby's birth, but on the other hand she felt a little nervous. Can she really be a good mother?

"Don't worry, Eleanor, you will be a good mother." Cloris said to her, while little Eleanor was naughtily scratching her hair in her arms.

"It would be nice if Eleanor gave birth to a boy. Then our two families can marry." Avery said, the tone did not sound like a joke at all.

Eleanor laughed immediately, "Good idea."

At this time, she suddenly felt a strange abdominal pain. She couldn't help groaning, and covered her stomach with a pale face.

"What's the matter with you, Eleanor?" cried Cloures in surprise.

Avery quickly supported Eleanor and let her sit down on the sofa.

The pain came and went quickly. After a few seconds, the pain disappeared, but fine cold sweat was already breaking out on Eleanor's forehead.

"I think I'm fine." Eleanor forced a smile and said hoarsely.

But Cloris insisted that she go to St. Mungo's Hospital for a check-up, so Eleanor had to do it.

The results of the examination showed that both Eleanor and the baby were very healthy, and the therapists did not understand why she had a sudden and unbearable abdominal pain.

Eleanor did not tell Tom about it at once.

Tom has been very busy these days. Even after class, he will go out to do errands. It is said that he is helping Professor Slughorn purchase medicinal materials. He returned to Hogwarts very late almost every day, and rarely had the opportunity to chat with Eleanor after returning.

But Eleanor's abdominal pain did not get better. The pain that day was just the beginning, and soon she was in pain almost several times a day.

She realized that something was wrong, so she asked Mr. Martin to do a more detailed inspection for herself.

The final conclusion was that she was poisoned.

"Am I poisoned?" Eleanor asked in surprise.

"Yes," said Mr. Martin apprehensively. "It's a very mild slow poison that won't do you any more harm than a common cold, but—"

"It will hurt my child, right?" Eleanor said, clutching the hem of her clothes tightly.

"Yes." Martin replied with a sigh. "When I was a school doctor, I saw some girls who had unwanted pregnancies secretly use it to abort. To be honest, this kind of medicine is not difficult to get. It is easy to use the medicinal materials in the student storage room. It can be cooked."

Eleanor could not think of anyone who would do such a thing to herself. At this time, Tom's figure suddenly appeared in her mind.

"Oh, don't be silly—how could it be Tom?" Elinor said to herself mockingly.

House-elves don't poison food, so the ways in which Eleanor might be poisoned are narrowed down a lot. Then, she brought the food stored in her room to Mr. Martin for toxicity testing. Finally, they discovered that the poison had been found in a jar of honey.

"Where did you get this jar of honey?" asked Mr. Martin.

Eleanor frowned and thought for a few seconds, "...it was a gift from a friend, and Tom brought it back."

"Do you know which friend gave it to you?"

Eleanor's heart sank, and she suddenly remembered that there was no card attached to this gift, "...I don't know."

—Tom knows that she has the habit of adding honey to her black tea.

No, it can't be him.Eleanor immediately vetoed the terrible idea.

But she still couldn't completely dispel her doubts, and she didn't understand why she was like this.In her subconscious, her intuition always told herself that she seemed to have missed something important, but she couldn't remember what it was at all.

That evening Tom was coming home later than usual.

Eleanor has been tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. Finally she got up from the bed and decided to tidy up the room.

She refolded the clothes in the closet, sorted out the books in the bookcase, and put them away by category. Finally her eyes fell on Tom's chest.

Tom locked a lock on his cabinet, and he seldom opened it.Eleanor found she had no idea what was there.

Eleanor finally couldn't help stretching out her hand and pulled the cabinet door.Surprisingly, this time the cabinet was unlocked.

Maybe Tom forgot to lock it.She secretly guessed.

As she expected, the cabinet was full of thick and old books. Most of these books were about the Dark Arts, which was why Tom kept them carefully locked away.

Later, she also found a small key and several crystal bottles containing potions. She put the key back, but took out the potion.

At this moment, a sound came from the door.Eleanor quickly closed the cabinet and hid the potion behind her back.

Sure enough, a few seconds later Tom pushed the door open and walked in.What he saw was that Eleanor was wearing pajamas, standing barefoot on the ground, and staring at him with some vigilance.

"Aren't you asleep yet?" said Tom, frowning, with a tired look on his face. "What are you doing?"

"It's nothing." Eleanor laughed dryly, "It's just a little insomnia."

Tom didn't ask any more questions. He walked to the bed, yawned, unbuttoned a few jacket buttons indiscriminately, and then fell headfirst onto the bed.

When Eleanor approached, Tom was already asleep in his coat.

Eleanor sighed, and lay down beside Tom.She turned her back to Tom, holding three cold crystal bottles in her arms. She squeezed those crystal bottles tightly, and she had already made a decision in her heart.

The next day, she brought those potions to Mr. Martin. After sniffing the medicines carefully, Mr. Martin picked out a bottle of purple-red potion.

Eleanor suddenly felt her heart skip a beat.

"It's this potion," said Martin, "—you can smell its sweet, cloying aroma. By the way, where did you get it?"

But Eleanor made no answer. She sat there dumbfounded, not even responding to Martin calling her name.

A few seconds later, she suddenly took back the bottle of potion from Mr. Martin, stood up and left the school hospital quickly.

Then she went straight to Tom's office.

Tom was talking to an older Slytherin boy. When he saw Eleanor push the door in, he showed a slightly surprised expression, "Eleanor? What are you doing here?"

"We've got to talk," said Eleanor, then turned her gaze to the boy, "—alone."

The boy said goodbye to Tom tactfully, turned and left the office.

"Sit down, Eleanor," said Tom, with a slight smile, seeming to be in a good mood. "You look terrible. What happened?"

Eleanor took a deep breath, and put the potion in her hand on the table in front of Tom.

"What's this?" asked Tom casually, raising an eyebrow.

"Come and tell me." Eleanor said bluntly, "I found it in your cabinet."

"My cabinet?" Tom glanced at Eleanor in surprise, then picked up the bottle of potion from the table, observed it carefully, and said coldly, "So, you secretly opened my cabinet?" cabinet?"

"I didn't open it secretly. It was unlocked." Eleanor replied irritably. "That's not the point. Tell me, why do you have this potion?"

Tom frowned at her. "Honestly?"

"of course."

Tom chuckled, and put the potion back on the table, "The truth is—I've never seen such a thing. What trick are you playing, Eleanor?"

"It's me who should ask this question!" Eleanor finally couldn't hold back anymore, and said angrily, "This potion is used for abortion!"

Hearing this sentence, the smile on Tom's face disappeared immediately.

"Tell me, why do you have such a thing?" Eleanor asked.

"As I said, I never saw it," said Tom grimly.

Eleanor said coldly: "The lies you tell may not be clever at all."

Tom picked up the potion again, shook it in front of his eyes, and said in a low voice, "Don't worry, I'll figure out what's going on."

"Let me tell you what's going on." Eleanor's voice began to tremble slightly, "I've already been poisoned, Tom, if it wasn't because I discovered it in time..."

"What are you talking about?" Tom frowned, then sneered mockingly, "Do you think I poisoned you?"

Eleanor gritted her teeth, but she didn't stop her vision from blurring.

"Tom...you never expected this baby to be born, did you?" Her voice was terribly hoarse, "If it wasn't for that, you wouldn't have said that just now...you should be worried about our baby, not me suspicious of you."

Tom opened his eyes slightly, and a moment of annoyance suddenly appeared on his face. But he quickly regained his composure, "Fortunately, your child is fine, isn't it?"

"It's not 'your child', it's 'our child'!" cried Eleanor, tears welling from her eyes. "Don't lie to me again, Tom! Tell me the truth—you never I don't want this child to be born!"

Tom fell silent suddenly. He lowered his gaze, resting a hand on his forehead in distress.

"...Why don't you refute?" Eleanor looked at him in despair.

Tom raised his head, sighed and said, "Well, Eleanor, I really don't expect that much, but what you need to know is that I will never poison you." At this point, he suddenly paused, Slightly raised the corners of his mouth and showed a bitter smile, "To be honest, if it was really me, I wouldn't let you find out so easily."

Eleanor wondered if she should trust him.She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and when she opened them, her gaze was much firmer.

"Sorry, I can't risk my baby," she said, and then took a deep breath. "Let's separate for a while, Tom. I will leave Hogwarts until my baby is born... I will let you know of."

After she finished speaking, she turned around and left quickly.
